Quote:
It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His stall was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was only a table with a deep purple cloth over it, but scattered neatly atop it were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing a customer approaching, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes.

In a silky voice, he greeted, “Welcome.”

Porrima thought she felt a Negaverse Captain somewhere in the area, but it seemed they went elsewhere before she could catch up. What a shame. In any case, she continued walking in the aura's direction on a whim, because maybe the agent would come back, or somesuch.

Once she walked a ways, however, she almost literally stumbled into a table with an assortment of goods. She looked at the shopkeeper, and her first thought was not that he was weird and why didn't he have an aura, but wow, what a beautiful sense of color. Porrima loved her purples. This guy was very purple. Purple and iridescent. "Hel-lo," she murmured back, her tone indicating a bit of mental absence.

A strange little smile crept across her face as she adjusted her sketchbook's position and then immediately began doodling this merchant. Headshot at first, because his facial structure was appealing even with the alien bits, but she was gonna go totally ham if she got a chance.

For a few seconds, he remained still; he watched her with visible amusement, but eventually moved to prop his chin into the palm of his hand as he rested his elbow atop the table’s surface. “...Ah, an artist,” he realized when he watched her wrist moving quickly, as if he had found the answer to a question he hadn’t asked.

“That explains the eccentricity.” As if he really had any room to speak. “Are you any good?”

A faint smile twitched at Porrima's lips as the merchant acknowledged her. At the same time, she shrugged at the question of her quality. "I get commissions from time to time," she said, and left the merchant to interpret that how he pleased. "I'm guessing you're not just here for an art trade?" she asked after a few more strokes on her sketchbook.

She surveyed the array of items spread out in front of the merchant , her gaze briefly alighting on a pen-like object before resuming eye contact. "You've got stuff. I get the feeling that you want something other than plain old people money for your stuff. What are you looking for?" It was baseless conjecture that came a little too easily to her, but for someone with her somewhat warped grasp on reality, an alien merchant not wanting Earth money seemed perfectly logical.

"Oh, you seem modest," he said of her brief and vague description of art talent. "I'm something of an artist, myself." He hadn't missed where her eyes lingered. "Truth be told, on an ordinary day I might accept an offering of currency. But," he shrugged, "I doubt your money's any good off of Earth, and I'm not planning on staying for long enough to need a wealth of Earth coin. This trip, at least. You're clever to deduce that much, I suppose. No, I am actually looking for something."

He leaned forward a bit, elbows on the table as he looked up at her. "A little gemstone. Shiny, sparkly little thing. Catches the light well, even as raw and uncut as it is. Hearsay is that you can find them easily. I've had some trade me what they've found in town, on the ground."

He let out a wistful sigh. "Ah, I'd go look, myself, and save all the trouble of parting with my treasures for them, but," he gestured to his horns. "I don't suspect I'd quite fit in, and I'd rather keep a low profile. For now, at least."
