Quote: It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face. He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones. His stall was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was only a table with a deep purple cloth over it, but scattered neatly atop it were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them. He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing a customer approaching, he smiled. He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes. In a silky voice, he greeted, “Welcome.” Varda wasn’t sure why she had come here. She was now staring at some… guy. With weirdly colored hair. But somehow she felt as though the gem that she had gotten had lead her here. The more she had carried it on her person, the more she felt as though she had to go to some certain spot. What she hadn’t expected was some guy to be there. While he looked human, Varda was cautious. She was pretty sure aliens didn’t exist… right? But then why would this gem be so attracted to the man in the first place. She hesitantly said, “Uh, thanks.” Before she took the gem and held it out to him. “This lead me here.” After all, she wasn’t even sure what she was doing here in the first place other than following some weird feeling about all of this. Of course, she did try to ignore the fact that this seemed so other-worldy. Of course she had been able to get into the Mirrorverse, though she hadn’t tried it since she had become Varda, but it had been different than the world that she was used to. The one that she thought had rules and regulations as to what could and couldn’t happen. But instead of spending the night at the roller rink like she had wanted, she was here, now, and waiting for the man to respond. And it annoyed her greatly. To think that she would have to go through all of this because of some unknown force. It made her believe that she couldn’t even decide her own fate anymore. As though instead of what she wanted to do, she would be forced into doing something she hadn’t even known existed at the time or cared about. Instead of spending the night as she wanted, studying, trying to find a mentor in the local police, and working on her technique for roller derby, she had to be here. And she had just been wondering if she should go out patrolling tonight. It had been a mistake though. She had only wanted to spend about half an hour trying to collect energy and hoping that she wouldn’t be interrupted like last time, but the calling happened as soon as she had transformed. And try as she might, she just couldn’t concentrate enough to even send out her wraith to go and collect energy as she travelled here. Luckily it hadn’t been too far, but it made her nervous, especially since she didn’t recognize the place. “If this was what led me here,” She said, pointing to the object still in her hand, “then what is it? Is it magical? From this world? Well I hope it’s from this world at least…” She muttered to herself hoping that she wouldn’t get abducted by aliens at some point. Suddenly War of the Worlds was looking a lot more plausible. “If you don’t have an explanation for this that’s fine, but you can just take it then. I don’t want it of it’s going to try and force me to go… wherever it wants to go.” She wasn’t sure if it had a brain. Did it?

The merchant watched her carefully, clearly taking in her appearance. “I will never get tired of seeing this energy signature. Lovely. So unique. Ah, I’m sorry. You were speaking.” He smiled, perhaps equally at her as he did the gem in her hand. “I have many explanations, for many things. I collect more than just things. Come closer, I won’t bite. Not now, at least.” He adjusted positions, visibly interested in her presence. “The stone obviously wants to be with me,” he said simply, almost flippantly, like it was such an obvious thing. “Which is convenient, because I’ve been looking for them. It’s not from this world. Some say they’re cursed,” he added, nearly looking like he was having fun. “I am immune, naturally.” He held out his hand. “I’ll take it off your hands.” Still, she was too gullible. It wasn’t fair, not really, to swindle her. ...But it would have been so easy. Ah, but he needed to cement a good relationship. The longer he could keep her, the more he could learn about her Court. “...But to be fair,” he sighed, “I’ll trade you for it. It’s the business I’ve been running here, so it’s only fair. You won’t be able to do much with that stone, but perhaps you can do something with any of these,” he gestured to his display. “Perhaps you’d rather a less influential gem? Mm. How about…” He paused and moved a few things, extracting a golden charm, inlaid with a polished red stone so vibrant that it seemed to catch the moonlight and reflect it back in perfect red. The gem itself seemed to glow when the light hit it, and it dangled from a stunning gold chain that balanced it perfectly. “It would match your outfit. It almost looks as if it were made for you, no?”

The more and more that the man talked to her, the less Varda wanted to be around him. That and it seemed he was teasing her about taking the "stone". He said he wanted it, yet still seemed to want to get her to keep it for longer. Definitely trouble. She thought to herself as she finally gave the stone to him, wanting to just be rid of it. She was about to turn right around and get the heck out of here, when he suggested trading for it instead. She made a face at him, one that said "are you serious?". So, mysterious guy wants a stone that she found that led her to him, and it's clearly not from Earth, he teases her about whether or not it's actually dangerous, and then decides to offer her something for it. "Yeah..." She said, trailing off a bit and raising an eyebrow at the charm. She could have sworn it felt familiar to her somehow, but wasn't sure why. "And why should I trust what you're giving me? I doubt you're that nice to give me something that won't kill or curse me in some way. Why should I trust it?" She crossed her arms, waiting for an explanation.

He accepted the stone dutifully; it disappeared from sight almost as soon as his fingers wrapped around it. He relaxed then, pleased with this exchange. She had already offered it and he had taken it, but the trade was an offer all the same. It was good business, at least. "Why should you trust anything?" he countered. "I won't force you to take it. It's simply an offer, for fairness' sake. Besides. I've left most of my cursed goods at home. Those are dangerous to play with, you can't just throw them all in a sack and expect that something bad won't happen. I can't afford a curse right now. I don't much take those on trips with me to show off. Especially when I'm not getting paid for it"

She couldn't help but smirk. "You really aren't convincing you know that?" Still, it was an interesting conversation. She didn't trust him, but then again, could you really trust anything that came from space? At this point she wouldn't be surprised if Superman was real and Krypton had really exploded. "Fine, I'll take it, but what are you even using those-" She pointed at the hand which previously held the stone, "anyway? You have some sort of use for them?" Maybe it was needed for his powers in some way? If he did have them, besides the obvious magic of making stones disappear, she wondered if she should be worried about them.

"Not convincing!" he laughed and shook his head. "Oh, you wound me. I wasn't even trying to be deceitful. I don't like lies. And I wouldn't lie about what I'm trading you. That's not very good business, you know. The stone is a pretty bauble. I do have a use for them, but I am a bit of a collector, you know. You're a Senshi--Dark Mirror, though. I don't know much about you. But I'd like to," he sighed, a bit dreamily. "Regardless, you should know that there are all sorts of magics in this universe. They don't all make sense. I'm just..." He seemed contemplative and then shrugged, offering a toothy smile. "Trying to shed a little light on some of it. I mean no harm, of course. The stones are useless to you, to anyone on this planet, I think. But I followed the meteor shower here to collect what I could. We'll see if anything comes of it, but. Who doesn't like a good experiment?"

She wanted to say something about how it would negatively affect his business if they would never be able to find him again, but decided to keep her mouth shut. Sometimes this magical space business was just a bit too confusing for her. "Unfortunately for you, I'm pretty new to the Dark Mirror stuff myself, so I wouldn't be able to give you much information." It was true. She had only been a part of it for less than a year. And during that time she had... tried. Sad to say that she hadn't tried very hard, but she had gotten into some battles at least, and those were fun. "Well, if you have a use for the stone then that's good." She supposed at least. She wasn't sure if she could trust a strange magical space man. "I appreciate the trade though." She wasn't sure what she was going to do with it at this point, but maybe it would be useful later. Like throwing it at someone if she still didn't trust it for a distraction. "I hope you uh... get all the business that you need to." She said, taking a step back from the man, now intent on going home.

He smiled as he watched her, seeming complacent with this exchange. "Thank you, little Dark Mirror Senshi. I appreciate your visit. I wish you all the luck." He propped his elbows up on the table calmly, lacing his fingers together and resting his chin atop the bridge they made. "Be safe. I hope to see you again." When she was not so new, perhaps, and had more to tell. Though, he couldn't complain about the company he'd had; it was fun. He'd have to come back again.

"Right..." She muttered, desperately wishing that his hope never ever came true. Ever. She was still wary about the charm that she had been given. She wasn't really sure what to think. Didn't aliens want to like, take over the world usually? And she really had no reason to trust him. She had just wanted to get rid of the feeling that the fragment had given her to the point she had come all the way out here! Still, it was done and she would need to find the closest mirror she could to here. But she couldn't shake the feeling that he was somehow watching her still. He had seemed too interested. She didn't believe he would follow or attack her, but she couldn't help but shake the feeling that they would meet again. And she wasn't looking forward to that! The Space Cauldron end from me! Thank you for the rp!
