Quote: The Charity Benefit (3) - Now is as good of a time as any to examine one of the many tables displaying items for the auction. The table is full of donations, both new and old, and something catches your eye. It’s only when you get closer to the item that you have some sort of fierce, emotional response. It might be nostalgia or happiness, or sadness, or fear, or anger--any emotion is possible. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to feel this way; the item can be any that you choose. Though the emotion doesn’t linger for long, there’s no clear reason as to why it inspired such feelings. Is the item worth bidding on? Or running away from? Honestly Hux was glad when the weird feeling of been watched had finally gone away and the stranger he had kept seeing had vanished with it. It had been unnerving the entire time and left him feeling so uncomfortable it had been tempting to leave the charity benefit for a bit there. Still he had toughed it out even as he looked around for his cousin. Weirdly enough he wasn't able to spot Alex until after the stranger finally stop showing up. The tall blond's shoulders loosened up and he flexed the tension out of his hands once he spotted his smaller cousin. If he had to think about it, he wasn't sure if the tension leaving was purely due to the stranger finally leaving him alone or if the fact that he had finally spotted his cousin and Alex didn't look distressed. Either way though Hux still was glad for the reprieve and started to make a beeline directly towards Alex. He did have to dodge a few other benefit goers but not too many as most were at the tables by this point so it didn't take long for Hux to sidle up next to Alex, half noticing that he must have still been a bit tense as he relaxed fully standing next to the other man. "Tink, where have you been? I lost you in the crowd there for a bit." He said with a smile. His bright blue eyes darted around to see if anyone was paying attention to them before he let his voice drop so only Alex could hear him. "Did anything weird happen to you while we were separated?" He asked, though he hoped that Alexandre said no to the question and he could put it behind him. On the other hand if something weird went down to his cousin he might have to suggest they stick together better until the event was over. He did want to go look at the items on the tables soon since he hadn't really looked at any beyond glances over people's shoulders, but he wanted to check in with Alex first.

He had just left the side of two ladies, both lovely of course, and was now back on the hunt for his cousin. As luck would seem to have it his cousin found him, not all that hard as his cousin had the height advantage and could see over other people.
With his cousin next to him he tilted his head a bit. "I was speaking with someone...well two someones, one I know from our night job." Trying to keep it less obvious to some, while being obvious to his cousin, what he meant. "I didn't mean to get caught up." He didn't once correct, or scold, his cousin for calling him Tink in public. He was rather used to it by now and tolerated it, sometimes he even liked it...not that he'd admit to it.
"Nothing weird...should we be on guard?" He asked, keeping his voice low as well, was something amiss here? It wouldn't surprise him but he didn't like the thought of yet another event in the city being some trap, whether by whatever magic was loos in t he city or by their own team. "We should stick together Hudson...just in case." Even if he himself saw nothing if something had happened to his cousin, which he assumed to be the case, he figured it best they keep close. Something might just happen.

Hux gave an understanding nod when Alex mentioned that he had been talking to people, not surprised that was what his cousin had been doing seeing how he himself had been doing that before the staring stranger had happened. Though he did have to wonder if the one that Alex knew from the powered side was an agent or a senshi, he wasn't about to ask at the moment seeing how they weren't very secure at the moment. It was best to stay vague and ask for any clarifying discussions later.
Of course if Alex had indeed scolded him about the nickname he would just have given the shorter man a playful smile and kept doing it. He had been calling Alex that forever and he didn't see that stopping any time soon, besides it wasn't like Alex didn't return the favor with always calling him by his full name.
"I don't know. There was some man staring at me and every time I would try to go to him to find out why he would disappear to a different part of the room and continue." Hus said, his voice still low. He couldn't help but rolling his shoulders in discomfort in remembering how that had felt. "That's perfectly fine with me. Shall we go look at some of the items now but keep an eye out for anything else happening?"

"Disappear...like to a place he couldn't have walked to that fast?" Meaning had this person gone from one end of the room to another in the blink of an eye. "I can't sense anything like this." it Katya had been there though she would have, if anyone had an aura here. But this wasn't the sort of place to bring a cat, much as he wished he could.
Looking around, making it look as casual as he could, his head nodded once. "Yeah, lets do that. Just make sure we keep prepared. If you saw something I trust it, I know this city well, and I don't trust events ever." But he wouldn't let that lack of trust keep him from going to events, and enjoying the holidays, he just was on guard and kept his eyes open for anything he didn't like...anything strange.
"We'll be fine...we have each other." And they were family....they would be fine. He would make sure of it. "Is there anything you're looking for in particular here tonight?"

"Exactly, like he was teleporting around the room or something. I thought he would just get lost in the crowd at first but he would be too far away too quickly for that." He had briefly thought that maybe it was a Negaverse agent teleporting but hadn't sensed anything, the man's outfit didn't look like it fit the theme, and he couldn't think of a reason another agent would be staring at him. Unless it was someone targeting him to get to Alex and if that was the case said someone would get a punch to the face at least.
At least Alex did indeed believe him that something was off though so they both could be at least a little prepared. "Got it, I'll stay on my toes and keep watch."He said with a nod and a small smile. He trusted Alex with his life and even if he wasn't as strong as his cousin, together they would certainly take on whatever the city threw at them. "Not really, I wasn't really planning on getting anything, just looking. How about you?" Even with the topic change Hux kept his word to stay vigilant. "Plenty of tables to head to first."

"I wasn't planning on it, I never do though." He was the sort to random buy things, most of the time, it was how and why he had such a candle collection. He went in to just look and wound up walking out of yankee candle with far more than he needed. He also bought more silver antique candle holders than he needed but he saw things...and well it just happened.
"Lets look and see if anything catches your attention." Shifting his eyes around he dropped his voice. "You on one side of the table and I'll stand across from you. If you see the guy motion...I want to see them. As we are now...I can't sense anything." So if it was someone he couldn't tell. "It wouldn't make sense though....but it could be anything else." There could be other things that weren't human...or other auras perhaps. Not senshi, knight or Negaverse but still there.
"It's not like aliens aren't real." He said rubbing along his mid section where a long scar was faded into his skin. "Almost got killed by some once....up in space." The whole time he spoke in a tone that was just above a whisper, and he kept close to his cousin so only Hudson would hear him. It would, for the first time, explain one of the scars he had which Hudson had no doubt seen a few times. He didn't like to talk about them...Hudson knew what he was and did and should know they were all from the war in some way.

Seeing how Hux know and lived with his cousin very well, the shorter man got a side eye and a smirk at his statement. He was very tempted to mention that they were running out of candle space so he might was to see about buying some shelves or something but he held back.
Hux frowned heavily at the mention of Alex almost dying and he reached out to give the other man a brief hug, uncaring they were at a public event, after all he never cared about that anyway. "That's not happening again ok? I wont let it." He said, a determined glint in his eyes.
After a moment he separated from the hug ti give Alex a smile, knowing this wasn't a good place to for that type of talk but planning on continuing later. "But that sounds like a good plan to me." He said then moved to the other side of the table, eyes carefully scanning the crowd first before actually moving to the items on the table itself.

Melting into his cousins side after a moment, where he stood stiff at the others side, he felt himself melt and lean into the other. "I'll try not to, not that I ever try and get almost die though. It just happens." It was hard to keep from nearly dying in this city, at least when you were involved in a war. It wasn't so simple and easy. "But I'll let you try and keep me safe." He'd trust his cousin, one of the few he'd trust to keep him safe.
Looking at the items on the table, already knowing his cousin was likely to talk to him later, Alexandre went about glancing over things. He kept glancing up, or just lifting his eyes, as he kept a look out for the figure. "I hate feeling like prey...it's the wrong way for things to go." His cousin might not be a killer and his cousin might not be a predator or a hunter...but Alexandre would admit to being a killer...a hunter. He did hunt down senshi and knights and he had blood on his hands. He didn't shy away from what he was. Being on the other end of things was a bit...off putting, especially when he couldn't fight back.
"You know...I was thinking. We should start getting ideas for Christmas gifts for the family." They had a large enough family it would take time, it always did, but it would give time to order things and do the shopping in stores as well. He typically tried to start early in order to finish it all in time, he didn't like feeling rushed. "If you see anything you think someone would like..."

He would rather his little cousin didn't get into the types of situations that could lead to him dying but Hux knew full well that he couldn't stop him and more importantly, Alex could take care of himself most of the time. It didn't stop Hux from wanting to wrap him up in bubble wrap and keep him in the house at times, especially when talk of him dying came up. "I fully believe you when you say you don't mean to but I still worry." Alex admitting he was willing to let Hux try and help keep him safe got a smile and another hug. If Alex was looking at the taller man's face at that moment he would have caught the determined glint in his eyes as well.
Seeing the other man turn his attention to the items and the crowd had Hux doing the same and he let out a soft sigh at the other's words. "I don't like it either." He wasn't sure if he could ever get used to the thought of killing others and frankly didn't want to but being the target of one, or a potential one at least since they couldn't say for sure what the strange had been planning, wasn't a comfort either.
The change in topic was welcome and Hux gave Alex a small smile before his eyes went to the items on the table. "It's still a ways away at this point but yeah, probably a good enough time to start since there are quite a few we would have to get. I'll let you know if I spot something, do the same in return?" He asked as his eyes flitted from item to item on the table.

"I know you do." Since his family knew full well that he didn't lie, he wasn't good at it, though he did stretch the truth or twist things to being true. He didn't outright lie.Surprised by the hug the ashen blond took a moment to glance up at his cousin. Well, that seemed to have made his cousin happy - very happy. He also looked like he was going to do whatever it took to keep him safe....that worried him a bit, since trouble at times could get really bad.
"Of course, though I don't know if they'll have anything that'll call to us. We can hope. Maybe we should, once we get home, make a list of everyone and then write down ideas. If we get something from the list we cross it out, so the other knows, and we can add ideas as we get them. It might help." He knew some people in the family would be hard to shop for - they always were. But if they had the time, starting from now, to observe and listen to family chatter they might get ideas. Best they write down whatever ideas they got, to keep track of things, they did have a rather large family after all.

[ Thankfully it seemed like the talk of danger was over, for now at least. After all he wasn't about to address the worried like that had sparked in Alexandre's eyes right now when they were still out in the open and they had already discussed more then what they probably should have.
Hux gave a hum in agreement after tossing the idea around his head for a moment. "Sounds like a solid plan to me. We can also make notes if we end up deciding to get a present together for someone or not." He added on with a nod then gave a chuckle. "I think we have a few family members that could use a spa trip for instance."
Thoughts of possible presents got a little derailed as his eyes settled on a small clay statue and a sudden, intense feeling of nostalgia swept over him like a tidal wave. It took a moment for the feelings to die down and when it did Hux studies the small statue for any clue as to why he had just got the emotion bomb but as far as he could tell it was just a normal clay statue of a super hero.

"I agree, we have a fair few who could use a spa trip. Others I doubt would enjoy such a thing and would likely find something else far more to their liking. Books, something outdoorsy..." He said slowly, trailing off, as he shrugged a bit.
Watching his cousin eye the statue he tilted his head for a moment. "Interested in it?" Or maybe he was interested in it for someone else...but he was staring at it. "We can get it if you want." The money spent wouldn't bother him, he had enough without a doubt. He didn't see too many people bidding high on it, nothing higher than he could go anyway.

"Either way I'm sure between the two of us we will be able to figure something out for everyone." Hux said with a grin and a shrug. Sure it might take them a bit but they had time for that anyway.
He hadn't realized how intently he had been staring at the statue until Alex had spoken up. Hux gave a small shake of his head then looked over at the younger man. "Nah, just had a weird feeling when looking at it the first time. Not really interested in it other wise." He said with another shrug. "Found anything you like yet?" He asked, figuring to just drop the topic since looking at the statue again didn't have the same effect. It probably just reminded him of something.

"I hope, even the family we don't have in common." He would help if Hudson needed it when it came to those unshared family members as well, just as he hoped Hudson would help him if he needed it .Some people were just so hard to shop for...and he wished they weren't. Maybe if he was closer to his family, and more social, he'd find it easier...maybe not.
"No, nothing yet..." Glancing about he shook his head. It was ok if he didn't find anything he was interested in, he didn't walk into this figuring he'd find anything of interest anyway.

Hux gave a nod in agreement but he wasn't too worried about it. It's not like you could please everyone after all and there was bound to be someone on the list that either didn't like or didn't care about whatever they got, it was just a fact of life.
"Alright well I think we looked this table over as best we could, let's head over to the next one." Hux suggested, putting the statue out of his mind completely and pointing over to another table nearby.
