Quote:
It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His stall was somehow both simple and overwhelming; it was only a table with a deep purple cloth over it, but scattered neatly atop it were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing a customer approaching, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes.

In a silky voice, he greeted, “Welcome.”

"You know about this?" He hadn't managed to get more than one of those shiny fragments when he'd fled from the cop, he'd dropped the others in his escape, but he had one and he'd heard whisper of such a place and decided to investigate. Holding out his closed hand and opening it to show what he had in it. The little bit of shiny pale blue, crystal for lack of a better term, sat innocent in his palm "This is something - but what?" He hoped the stranger would know, they certainly weren't from here and it seemed like the item he held wasn't either. He was hoping they were tied together so he could find out.

He didn't ask who the other was, nor where they were from, he didn't want to be too rude. He wanted answers and you often didn't get them from being rude to people, at least that was his belief. It didn’t help that this person didn’t look like the sort to accept a person having attitude with them, or making any sort of demands. Though he shouldn’t judge a person on their looks but they looked...hungry? Like some cat ready to kill a mouse, or something similar, those horns and teeth didn’t help any either.

"Found it the other night." He added in as he approached the table and set it down with a gentle hand. “I found a few but I could only hold onto this one. I’m hoping you know what it is and why it’s here.” Or at least how it got here. Anything really would be helpful, he just didn’t like not knowing about it. He didn’t like not knowing and he didn’t know a lot - he disliked it. Ignorance was not bliss, not for him, and he was magical and something had been and was still happening in this city.

Taking a moment to look over everything which was laid out, nothing really spoke to him but some items were certainly pretty and eye catching. Some things he hadn’t a clue what they were while other things he could figure what they were for easily. It was like a little bit of everything poured over the table and laid out for people to stare at, and perhaps purchase or ask questions about.

“What are all these?” The crystal still on the table between them both, for now untouched, he felt he could take the time to question and to look over the gathered items. “These are all from here?” He doubted it but it didn’t hurt to ask he figured, at least he hoped it was ok to ask - since he’d already done so. He figured he knew the answer though - no, they weren’t all from here. Just like the male on the other side of the table wasn’t from here. He wanted to know where though and was hoping he might get the answer from the question he had asked.

Finally his eyes moved away from the items, and the crystal, and focused on the figure sitting there...waiting.

"Dark Mirror Senshi!" the merchant greeted when Itokawa neared. "I know about many things. Not so much about you, but about that? Yes. It's a shiny little thing, no? Not much that you can do but look at it. You said you found more?" He looked hopeful. "You should bring them to me, all of them, that you can find. I'm a collector of beautiful things, as you can see," he gestured to his table but his eyes were on the gem.

"And I'll trade you. One of those, for anything on this table. My collection is varied, and rare, from places near and far away. One of a kind, all of them I can guarantee you won't find anything of the sort here on Earth."

He looked at him for a few seconds and then hummed, reaching for something on the far edge of the table. It looked like a snowglobe but there was something a little odd about it. It had a beautiful, golden base, and tiny little gold flecks inside. Each blade of glass inside looked like it was carved from an emerald, and the little flowers shined like opals and pearls.

Almost lazily, he shook the item and suddenly the golden flecks swirled around--flashing like tiny fireflies inside. There was something magical, almost akin to fairies drifting within the circle of flowers inside.

"Magical, no?" he prompted, eyeing the gem again.

This strange being, there was no way they were human, knew what he was. That wasn't expected, considering they weren't from here, but he didn't question it. He might not be the most active, and he was fairly new, but magic was a thing...so why question this simple. "I did, they were in an alleyway. I dropped the others when someone tried to shoot me with a taser." He didn't mention his wraith that had obvious scared the cop, or the unconscious human. He didn't think it would scare the person, or off put them, but it wasn't important right now.

"I can see that....and I'll try and find them. But what are they? Do they have a purpose or are they just pretty things?" Wondering if they were some sort of gemstone or something else, they could really be anything.

"I don't doubt that I won't find anything here on this planet." No, he didn't doubt the others words. He was sure of that, even the items which looked somewhat familiar to him.

Watching the figure grab up an item, a snowglobe he noticed, and give it a shake he wasn't so surprised with it doing as any snowglobe did when shaken. It was rather the grass and the golden fireflies inside...though maybe they were fairies instead? He wasn't sure. But it was certainly pretty and eye catching. Something felt...warm about it...special. "Deal." Offering up the small item he'd found, the value of which he really wasn't sure, as he looked at the snowglobe in the others hand.

"How did you know what I was? If you're not from here."

"I've just learned! I've only been here for a few days and I've already met so many people. I've never seen a Dark Mirror Senshi before, not anywhere but here. You're fascinating. I want to take one of you home with me. Ah, but. Time doesn't really allow right now. And I'm trying to clear out my things."

He handed over the snowglobe readily, exchanging it for the gem. As soon as their items swapped hands, the little stone Itokawa had offered seemed to disappear from sigh, pocketed away safely.

"It's too bad you don't have more of those stones. They have a purpose, to me. But then, I am a collector." He let out a long sigh, "Ah, but I'd have made a mighty deal for a larger batch of them. If you go back and find more, please, come back to me. Otherwise," he smiled at the snowglobe. "I'll keep my treasure and wish you well with yours."

"Take one of us home with you?" Now that did sound rather interesting, he wasn't going to lie, but it also didn't sound that good either - who knows what could happen there. Where was his home and what might happen there, was it even a place a human could live. "So we aren't anywhere else....what about senshi or knights? Are any of them elsewhere in space?" He did have to wonder, he had ever reason to wonder. If no dark mirror senshi what about the other sides? "Or the Negaverse?" He might as well ask about them as well.

"Where are you from? Is it close to here...in the same galaxy or another?" Holding onto the snowglobe now, glad he'd made his choice. It was lovely and he knew where he'd put it in his bedroom, right by his bed, so he could watch it at night while falling asleep. There was no other place for it that felt proper.

"I'll see if I can find more of them, if they've stayed where I dropped them." But they had a purpose...a purpose he doubted the other would tell him. He was hoping for other answers though. "I've never seen someone like you before...or anyone from elsewhere other than here. Is space filled with lots of populated places or just a few? We can't go to space - dark mirror senshi. I am wondering what it's like there."

The man laughed. "Oh, I have no doubt that you're wondering. You ask a lot of questions. I don't know where to begin. I suppose, no, I've only seen Dark Mirror Senshi here. I've met Senshi and Knights before, and the Negaverse. Here and there. The Negaverse really never found a way off this planet. Which is good for the rest of us, you know. Quite troublesome. I'm from very far away. Not close to here at all. But I travel often, so that's really not such a bad thing. You know, I've seen so few of anyone else that it's starting to feel like I must be the last person in the universe!"

His tone was of mirth, like a child teasing almost, but there was something dark to it as well. It wasn't as funny as he made it out to be. "Be lucky you haven't met others, little human. I don't know that you would like what you find if you did. The universe is a big, dark place these days. Things lurk in the corners. You're lucky there's so many of you here on Earth. Or unlucky, perhaps. We'll see what the future brings and find out, won't we?"

While the others words answered some things, and gave a bit of insight into space, it did give him a few more questions. "Was space once better? You make it sound like a fairly recent thing - that it's full of dark places and less people." He wanted to know if the figure knew why things had changed, why it was darker and less inhabited. He doubted he'd get an answer though, at least he knew some things though.

"So the Negaverse is bad then? For everyone...here and elsewhere if they ever got elsewhere." But it sounded like some of them might have done just that...but how?

"You've seen them here and there though...on other planets? How?" But it seemed like they hadn't spread in other places,. at least he was guessing from the others words. It was interesting, all so interesting, and he couldn't help asking questions. "I think with how separate wee are from the rest of space it's only natural to be curious and have questions. People still claim we are the only life...to see proof of otherwise." It was no wonder at all that he had questions. He just hoped he didn't upset the other somehow, he wanted to know more.

If space was that bad though, that dark, he was glad no one had come here...but why? Would they come eventually for some reason? "And you are safe traveling if things are so dark and dangerous? You must be powerful to remain safe." Or sneaky and good at getting by somehow.

The merchant laughed a bit, like he enjoyed the questions. "You ask so much! I can barely keep up with them! Where should I begin," he hummed thoughtfully. "Everything was once better. The universe used to be filled with so much life. There were so many interesting people. Now, it's so empty. So there are many interesting places I can go without anyone trying to stop me. Though. There are dangerous things in the shadows. But then, I suppose there always have been."

He leaned forward just a bit. "Chaos is Chaos, it comes in many flavors. It is what you make it, I suppose. The general consensus is that Chaos is bad, but. I like to think in more than black and white." He looked down to poke at some items on his table. "You never know where you'll find a good deal, after all. I'd have missed out on a lot of opportunities if I was so selective with my customers."

He let out a soft, almost dreamy sigh. "Earth is so cute, secluded like how it is. Thinking you're the only ones here. It's so different from the last time I was here. So cute. I do my best to stay safe, thank you for worrying about me. I get by."

"You would ask a lot also if you were us." He was sure almost sure of it. There was a lot to ask since there was so much out there which they would never experience or know. Other people and places had versions of space travel, obviously, and long life spans as well. Things people here, on Earth, didn't have and were far away from gaining. The only space travel were for white moon senshi and knights and that was limited he'd heard.

"Makes sense about chaos. Means not all chaos is bad - it's just chaos. So is it fair to say it's not evil...but neutral really, as a whole?" Since chaos by nature didn't seem to be either thing...it was just chaotic - right? "That is how you make it sound - neither black or white. So some is bad...what is here with the Negaverse but not my chaos?" He hoped his kind wasn't bad, but rather more neutral. It made it sound better to him at least, not that he would change sides or anything even if he could.

"Glad you keep safe, sounds a bit dangerous. But knowing there is life out there...it is a wonder. People will never make it there - not in my life time or in the next. We're too far behind." In a lot of ways. "Wonder how, or if, places that lost life can be repopulated - new life. To bring more life to the universe. Sounds a little more lonely than it was. But sounds more wonderous than here." But to know the other thought Earth was cute in how secluded it was. It was, if he thought about it, cute. It was secluded and comfortable and safe...like something wrapped in a warm blanket...at least that was the mental image which came to him. "Maybe you should stay for some time - enjoy time here."

"I do ask a lot," the merchant said, smug little smile still in place. He didn't seem to be pretending and he certainly wasn't lying about it; he was a curious creature. It didn't matter how many answers he had, there would always be more questions.

"I appreciate your offer to stay. I do think I'd like that. We'll see where the wind blows me, though. Can't put pleasure before profit, you know. The business life is a strict one."

He didn't seem like someone who was particularly worried strictness, though, and his opinions on Chaos made it sound like he didn't care who he was dealing with, as long as he got paid.

"I hope that I'll get to learn more about you and your kind while I'm here."

"You haven't asked as much as I have." At least it seemed like that, but he couldn't help himself. He assumed the other understood why he was asking so much. People here were bound to this planet...there was no travel to other planets. They just didn't have the technology or magic to do it, aside from what he'd heard senshi and knights could do. But that was limited.

"I hope you enjoy the time you spend here." And that he remained safe. He was, for now, a connection to another planet and to space.

"I think it's a bit late...and I should be going home. Maybe we will see each other again."

"Perhaps," the merchant replied, fond little smile on his face. "I think I should like that very much, my lovely little Dark Mirror Senshi. I don't think I'll be able to stay away from Earth for as long again. Go, rest. I want you to stay in tip top shape. Maybe next time I'll plan to spend some time vacationing instead of just working."

Even with how tenderly he seemed to consider the idea, something about him didn't seem exactly soft.

"Off, off. Don't get into too much trouble. I want to hear all about everything when I come back."
