It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be pink, blue, and even purple in color. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.

Again?

Rakovanite looked to the sky as a little streak of light danced across the edge of his vision. Perhaps it was just the season for these astrological events, because there had been a meteor shower just like this barely a week ago... It seemed so peculiar that so many could happen in such a short time frame. But then, he supposed they wouldn't call it the 'Star Festival' without reason. It wasn't what he'd been hoping for this night, though. There might be more people out than he'd expected...

He tucked the thought to the back of his mind for the moment and instead set his focus to the task at hand.

When youma left the rift to invade Destiny City, they often managed to attract quite a bit of attention. The feral ones in particular tended to have a subpar grasp of stealth and self-preservation. And why should they? It wasn't as if youma deaths were common or could be brought about by just anyone. Most senshi and knights only had the power to dust them: to send them back to the rift. So the ferals felt no fear of roaming the city brazenly, attacking any civilian they came across, and sapping energy by whatever means available to them.

Rakovanite wasn't powerful enough to outright command them, but that didn't mean he couldn't make use of them. He could travel in the youma's wake, and make an opponent of anyone who challenged them. He kept his aura concealed by means of an engraved medallion as he trailed behind. No Order member would be expecting an agent they couldn't feel.

And Rakovanite would have the benefit of knowing and seeing his enemy before they spotted him. Hopefully. That was the intention, anyway. So if he saw something as more of a threat than he could handle, he could simply choose to not engage.

Even observing a fight between a youma and the enemy would reward him with some information, and recognition toward an opponent he may come up against later. So long as he wasn't seen first, this was a delicate opportunity that Rakovanite didn't intend to squander. And the youma he'd selected to follow seemed all too perfect a match. It was a stupid creature, drooling at the mouth thanks to two giant tusks protruding from its maw. It was only the size of a large goat, so nothing massive that would attract too much attention, but still sizeable enough to frighten passerby.

And its charges were still dangerous enough to cause damage. Rakovanite expected it wouldn't be capable of killing anyone smart enough to try and escape it(unless someone was particularly unlucky), but it could certainly cause a scene.

It stampeded down the street, chasing away onlookers and busting up stalls and carts that had been set up for the Star Festival.

Rakovanite did everything in his power to stay unknown. He didn't feel it necessary to hide in a dark alley, or anything. He still needed to see, himself, but he kept far to the rear of the youma and out of the way of anyone who may run past him. His outfit was a bit of a dead giveaway for what he was, but so long as he wasn't the one causing a scene, would anyone even notice him when there was a very active youma around that needed to be stopped?

He'd wanted to see the sky! Basyl didn't think that was too much to ask for. He was almost never outside on any given day, so if there was a good chance (and a good reason) to get some fresh air on a nice night, he figured he might as well take it.

He'd made it to the roof of his apartment complex: a stairs-only endeavor for some horrible reason. God, he was so weak. It exhausted him to no end just to climb a couple flights of stairs. Basyl was nearly ready to pass out by the time he made it to the top, and he was panting as if he'd run a marathon. This was pitiful, and even though no one had been around to witness it, Basyl was still embarrassed of himself. How on earth was he to help protect anyone if he could barely climb stairs?

It was true that he wasn't the most active senshi, so it wasn't as if anyone was relying on him, but he'd always believed that if someone had a talent, they should utilize it. He was intelligent, dedicated, and driven by a need to heal. Good qualities for a doctor.

But since he could also basically turn into a magical girl, it seemed like he should do his best to do something with that too... He just wasn't very good at it.

Basyl groaned as he slid down to take a seat at the edge of the roof. He stuck his legs beneath the horizontal guardrail, dangling them over the edge, while he leaned his arms atop it. At least he'd managed to make it up here. He could at least be proud of himself for that. And it looked like the meteor shower was just starting. There were tiny, scattered bursts of light flashing across the sky. He'd made it in time! He sighed contentedly and tipped his head back to watch. This might have been a nice time to have someone else with him. It was beautiful, sure, but to be together with someone under these lights...

Someone screeched down below, ripping Basyl out of his thoughts. He lurched forward, wide eyes scanning the street below to see a small collection of people scattering in fear from some kind of... shadow boar creature? He craned forward to lean a bit over the edge, and- it definitely looked like some kind of youma!

Frantically, his gaze darted over the people and around the street to see if maybe someone from the White Moon had found it and was handling it... But that didn't seem to be the case. If that was so, he really had no choice but to step in personally.

Basyl scrambled back from the railing, far enough back that he hoped he was out of view as he reached for his pen. The second Narcissus was on the roof, he reached for his aura, trying to feel if anything else was nearby...

But there weren't any powered signatures. Just the youma.

He'd have to get in there. That was all there was to do.

Steeling himself, Narcissus tossed himself over the railing, stomach lurching high up into his throat as he fell, and landed surprisingly lightly on the sidewalk next to his apartment building. He'd heard he could successfully make those kinds of jumps, but in practice- Well, it was still a bit frightening. As was staring down a youma. What was he supposed to do now that he was before it, besides just-? Tackle it? He winced at the thought and decided his time was better spent trying to distract it.

"H-hey! Hey you," Narcissus shouted, waving his arms to attract the creature's attention. "Over here!"

A previously undetected aura pricked to life at the periphery of Rakovanite's senses. His brow immediately furrowed. The pull of it was something he'd sensed before, but it was also decidedly not the type of effervescent blaze of a White Moon aura. It wasn't a lingering sunspot behind closed eyelids, so much as a cooling wash in the pit of his stomach. Something like him, but not quite. Chaos signaling chaos.

His dark gaze flicked around, but Rakovanite didn't have to wonder long before a stuttering, meek, familiar voice reached him on the breeze. The Dark Mirror senshi from the park... His shoulder panged in reminder as he eyed the boy. Their factions were allies. Why was he out here getting in the way of youma?

Was it that Dark Mirror's soft heart that had led him to render aid to an agent? Did it also lead him to stand between rampaging beasts and helpless humans?

It wasn't what Rakovanite was looking for. It wasn't even what he really wanted.

But he recognized a hindrance when he saw one, and Rakovanite would be remiss if he didn't take an opportunity to engage for study when one was presented to him. Particularly given the situation. If an Order member did show up, they would probably tend to the youma before giving Rakovanite even a second look. With his aura concealed and a distraction readily available, it would be a waste not to do something with the senshi...

And Rakovanite was fairly certain the other boy posed no threat in a one-on-one situation.

The youma had swiveled toward Narcissus. Senshi of any faction were enemies to the beasts of the Dark Kingdom, and the beast blindly dove for the Dark Mirror with an echoing snort. Rakovanite kept to the shadows as he moved, slinking quickly and stealthily along the sides of the buildings until he could attack in the Dark Mirror's blindspot in tandem with the more obvious assault from the youma. He whipped an arm out to catch in the long lavender tresses of the- was Narcissus taller than him?- taller man's hair and yanked down.

Oh, god. What was he supposed to do now that he had the youma’s attention? Fighting it still seemed well beyond the reaches of what constituted a ‘good’ idea, but the time for decision making was entirely past. The thing spotted him and charged at him without hesitation, earning a petrified squeak from Narcissus as he started scrambling backward.

He’d just have to run! There was no other answer for it. The youma would follow him, and he could lead it away from any inhabited areas, and then maybe-

Maybe he could call someone who would know what to do with it? His contact list wasn’t massive, but the few he did know were at least stronger than him. Narcissus just hoped he’d be able to stall until someone showed up… He didn’t have more than a scattered handful of experiences in dealing with youma…

He fumbled to turn where he stood, preparing to dart away as quickly as possible when he full-body crashed into another person. Narcissus didn’t have time to apologize or see who it was or fully recognize what was happening before a fist was in his hair, and he was being yanked down to his knees. If he was frightened before, a terrified, warbling shriek ripped out of his throat, and he fumbled blindly around all of his stupid, long hair to try and push away whoever was holding him.

That charging youma would get them! It would be on them in a matter of seconds. Were they blind? Couldn’t they see?

Narcissus scrambled his hair out of his vision enough to look up and see-

“Rakovanite?” He asked in a muted voice. The man from the park… The one who Narcissus had helped re-set his shoulder. The one who had vanished without a trace and Narcissus had been unable to locate no matter how long he looked. He’d wondered if the whole affair had been a hallucination. Sometimes he didn’t get enough sleep, and he’d assumed it was possible that he could imagine such intricate conditions…

But here he was, in front of him again. “I-I helped you,” he whispered, gut rocketing up into his throat at the sight of someone he’d wanted to save, now trying to harm him with a creature from the Dark Kingdom.

There wasn’t as much resistance as Rakovanite may have expected, perhaps largely due to the surprise that came with having his aura concealed. But the senshi crumpled to the ground in a mass of flailing arms and flying hair, with the agent’s fingers clenched tightly in loose, lavender locks.

The youma’s pace slowed, now that there was an agent in the picture, but it seemed confused, and Rakovanite almost thought that it may still charge. It probably lacked the reasoning abilities to understand the situation, and it only had the visuals of Rakovanite’s appearance to understand what he was. With his free hand, he reached into his coat, rubbing the medallion to deactivate its effect on him.

Not an ideal situation, as he would’ve preferred to remain concealed, but neither did he want this brainless youma thinking he was an enemy. If it could sense what he was, it was more likely to leave him to deal with this senshi.

By the time that was done, Narcissus had gotten himself under control enough to be looking up at him through startled magenta eyes.

’I helped you…’

“But now you are a hindrance,” Rakovanite answered. “What business do you have interfering with the youma? I am more accustomed to seeing the White Moon chasing them, rather than our supposed ‘allies’ in the Mirror Court.” He eyed the other man, gaze hard and cutting. “When people get in the way, there are consequences.”

He wouldn’t have expected Narcissus to be the one out here trying to fight off youma. Though maybe he should have. The senshi had made quite a fuss about helping people, and for all the Negaverse’s claims that they were trying to save the world…

No one in their right mind should believe that releasing youma into a defenseless city was something ‘good’ people did.

A shudder rippled through Narcissus as he clasped his fingers around Rakovanite’s wrist to attempt alleviate some of the pressure the other had on his scalp through his hair. His mind pulled a complete blank. It was all he could do to stare up at Rakovanite through wide eyes, with lips slightly agape. Even if the youma wasn’t going to smack into him, it was still going off to attack someone.

...And he was trapped here, with a man who wanted to inflict consequences on him.

He’d never been in a fight without backup. He’d never been caught and held so that he couldn’t escape through a mirror. When agents or Order had tried to fight him, he’d either been able to flee, or he’d demonstrated that he was clearly not a threat, and that was enough for him to be left alone. Rakovanite looked at him like he was going to do something unpleasant, and Narcissus had no idea how to respond.

“It-it’s going to hurt someone,” Narcissus whispered, tone pleading. “I can’t let monsters run around attacking people in the city, and you shouldn’t either.” He swallowed, unsure of what more he could ask for.

“Rakovanite, please…”

What was Rakovanite going to do with this boy?

Killing him seemed like a disproportionate response. Narcissus had tended to his injuries, displaying skills that were clearly beneficial to him and expressing a willingness to help even someone not inclined toward niceties. Rakovanite was sure the offer of healing extended to the White Moon as well, but it still seemed unwise to make an enemy of someone with this type of knowledge.

If he was playing the long game, as Rakovanite usually was, he wanted allies who would be able to fill the gaps in his own skillset.

It probably wouldn’t do him any favors to actually hurt Narcissus. But since Rakovanite did believe in consequences, he wanted it noted that he wasn’t thrilled to see this boy out trying to stand in the way of youma doing Negaverse tasks. “It is only gathering energy, as I am sure you do as well. I think it unlikely it will kill anyone.”

His grip tensed, lifting just slightly so he could force Narcissus’ head back to observe him more fully. “It is not my preference to hurt you, but when someone is in my way, I remove them.”

Rakovanite twisted where he stood, wrenching the senshi along in his grip by the hair, and flinging him toward the brick that lined the sidewalk between the road and the buildings behind. He gave chase after he threw. Even if he didn’t want to harm Narcissus, it would be enough to frighten him.

He was afraid.

Of course he was afraid.

It didn’t matter that he’d technically met Rakovanite before, and that he’d done everything in his power to help him even through all the venomous glares, and that he thought they’d had an overall positive interaction by the end. Rakovanite was still an agent, and they were still the ‘bad’ guys-

No. Even with this, Narcissus still refused to say that all of them were just ‘bad.’ Even now- even now- he didn’t want to see Rakovanite as an innate evil person. His scalp stung where the agent held him, and his monster would surely be out attacking someone, but Narcissus only had to use his eyes to see that there wasn’t a particularly sadistic joy from it.

He swallowed again, trying to calm his heart and steel his nerves.

“I never hurt anyone when I’m draining,” he answered quietly, tone bordering close to defiant, but still with a lilt of incredulousness to it. “And I… I would be surprised if you did, either…” Rakovanite pulled his head back and Narcissus bit his tongue against saying anything else, against wincing from the added strain, or yipping from the tension. Rakovanite said he didn’t prefer to hurt him, and Narcissus wanted so badly to believe that.

It was more difficult to, as he was twisted about by the hair, knees scraping the ground as he was dragged. His fingers instinctually clawed at the other man’s grip as a pitiful sound escaped his throat. The pain escalated sharply, and a stuttered gasp left him before-

For a short moment, it was gone. There was a residual sting in his head and in his legs where they’d been pulled over the concrete, but for a second, he almost felt weightless…

Then his body crashed into a brick wall, and a startled shout erupted from his lips. His head cracked back against stone, and his own weight felt immediately too great for his legs to support. Narcissus sagged and blinked hazy eyes at the agent who was still freaking coming after him! Rakovanite had said he didn’t want to hurt him, but he was doing just that!

Something distinctly unwarranted fluttered to life in Rakovanite’s chest. Rationally, he knew that Narcissus had no information with which to base anything he might guess about Rakovanite off. There was no reason for the senshi to believe he didn’t or wouldn’t hurt anyone.

...But that wasn’t what most people said.

’There’s something wrong with you.’

’You seem dangerous.’

’You’re cold and unapproachable…’

Never ’I don’t think you’d hurt anyone.’ It was incorrect, of course. Rakovanite had zero qualms with bringing harm to nameless strangers he cared nothing about if it suited the goals of his agency and made it more likely he would be able to harness some of its power. Chaos didn’t care if there was something wrong with him, and it didn’t have the words to insinuate there was. It just provided him strength and defense against anything he wouldn’t have been able to face as a civilian. The side wouldn’t have mattered… Until it did.

But it was still… It was still some kind of unnameable feeling, to hear Narcissus say it.

Rakovanite was already well-along going through the motions by the time the words fully processed, though. He whipped after Narcissus after he’d thrown him, slamming his forearm to the other man’s throat, pinning him against the wall, as dark eyed bored down into magenta ones.

Like everyone else, there did not appear to be anything of significance about this man. Narcissus was scrawny in stature, with long, tangled lavender hair, and magenta eyes surrounded in dark circles. He was just… a person. There was not anything different about him when compared to anyone else. ...Besides what he’d said.

Every time someone told Rakovanite what they thought of them, he responded with the same, biting, ’You do not know me.’ And they weren’t even… as wrong as Narcissus was.

Was the senshi just stupid?

Stupid and presumptuous and too hopeful for the moral ‘good’ of everyone around him. Rakovanite frowned. His fingers slid over the dark, swishy fabric of Narcissus’ bodice, laying over the rapid thrum of his heart. He felt like any other person Rakovanite had ever touched...

Sailor Scout Attack -- Narcissus Dismissive Glower
Narcissus casts his magic and his eyes begin to glow. He has fifteen seconds to make direct eye contact with any individual to inspire a sense of being rejected from something specific. It can be from his opponent's own faction, from themselves, from an ally, or anything the player chooses so long as the overall effect is that focus is redirected from Narcissus and toward whatever they feel has rejected them. Target must be within six feet of Narcissus for the attack to take effect. The feeling lasts for twenty seconds and can be used twice per battle.

F-freaking god. Oh, freaking god.

Narcissus’ head swam.

He wanted so badly to believe that if he could just communicate with whoever faced him, there didn’t need to be anything more aggressive than that. Maybe they wouldn’t agree, and maybe there would still be times when someone got hurt, but any time they could try to find a commonality, he wanted to believe it was possible. He wanted it so freaking badly.

And he’d thought- he’d genuinely thought- that he and Rakovanite were on decent enough terms that they wouldn’t have incidents like this.

A whine spluttered out of his throat, and he raised an arm to try and blindly shove at Rakovanite’s frame. But it was less than worthless. His fingers met the stiff fabric of his vest and just slid ineffectually away. Narcissus barely wanted to stand. He could barely think. He could barely see… He hadn’t been hit, but he was dizzy from where his head had hit the wall, and the pressure on his throat was slowly starving him of oxygen.

What was Rakovanite going to do to him…? It wasn’t like Narcissus could offer up almost any resistance if the agent decided to punch him through the wall or rip his starseed, or-

The agent’s hand rested on his chest, and Narcissus’ eyes popped open, fear spiking through him and making his entire body tense. Rakovanite wouldn’t- he wouldn’t actually rip his starseed, probably? No, no. They weren’t enemies like that! They weren’t really friends, either, but he’d believed it when Rakovanite said he didn’t want to hurt him.

Well, maybe he didn’t. Not ‘hurt.’ Just <******** murder.

Narcissus squirmed, batting weak limbs against the other man and struggling to take desperate gasps of air. Why wouldn’t he let go? Why were agents so much stronger than him? Why couldn’t he do anything to get away- ********. Fuuuuuck. He’d never considered himself capable of any tricks.

He didn’t need any. Mirror senshi just needed to be able to get away so they could run through a mirror, as far as he was concerned.

Narcissus had never used his magic before. It hadn’t ever worked for him. But in that moment of fear, adrenaline, desperation, and helplessness, something fizzled to life. His eyes rimmed in a magenta glow and he pointed his gaze in Rakovanite’s direction.

There wasn’t any benefit to doing anything that would actually hurt Narcissus. Rakovanite had decided that he didn’t want to jeopardize their weak alliance by marring it with blood. And it was all but as soon as he’d slammed his arm over the senshi’s neck that he thought he absolutely couldn’t push it any farther than that. He would have to let Narcissus go, and the senshi could run off to chase youma or find combatants who needed aid, or whatever else he did…

Whatever pressure he’d exerted previously eased, being enough only to support the senshi’s very uncooperative body weight.

Rakovanite’s fingers still lay steady over the other man’s chest, feeling the pitter-patter of his heartbeat, even as Narcissus squirmed to get away from him. “Be still,” he commanded briskly. “I said I would not hurt you.” Or maybe he hadn’t said those exact words, but one could infer. If the actions following the words weren’t taken into account, anyway.

Narcissus looked uncoordinated and his attempts to swipe at Rakovanite were pathetically weak, making an edge of disgust tug at the corner of the agent’s lip. If this stupid senshi would just get his feet under him and stop flailing uselessly-

“Fine,” Rakovanite bit out as he stepped back and away.

But there was a glint in the senshi’s eyes as he looked back, now, something that made his pink irises glow with some kind of power, some kind of-

Magic.

Rakovanite’s ire crashed against him in a wave that made a snarl tear from his throat, a wave that existed for only an instant, one fleeting moment of recognition before it dissipated completely. In its place was something… less manageable. There was a pit of something like hopelessness.

He’d asked to be on this path. So many of his colleagues complained and whined and expressed how terrible it was to be with the Negaverse. They couldn’t bear the unscrupulous things they had to do, like gathering energy, taking starseeds, engaging in fights with the White Moon. These were the types of things ‘bad’ people did.

But Rakovanite had asked for it because the benefits outweighed the costs. He cared so little about any given person’s life and energy, that taking them registered as little more than a blip on his conscience. He had asked for this. He could do these things in exchange for abilities that would ensure he wasn’t a victim again. The Negaverse would appreciate him for it, where the White Moon was repulsed.

...Or maybe they wouldn’t.

He had asked and been allowed into their ranks, but that didn’t mean he was wanted. There weren’t any number of things that could exist or function or just be better because he was part of them. Nothing needed him. Rakovanite knew that. Of course he knew it. He’d always known it. It would be so easy to dismiss him...

His shoulders slumped, arms falling away from the senshi, as his dark lashes lowered and his gaze tipped toward the ground.

Air flooded back into Narcissus’ lungs, and he took several greedy gulps as his vision began to clear. He was still a little dizzy and still a little uncoordinated and still pretty frightened, but it helped to be breathing again. He threw one hand out to brace against the wall behind him, and the other went to Rakovanite’s shoulder as the agent stepped away from him. His weight was back on his own legs, still shaky as they were.

Something didn’t seem right, though, and Narcissus couldn’t quite place exactly what it was.

Everything had happened so fast, and he’d been so unsure and so afraid, and he had felt very threatened, and Rakovanite had thrown him, smashed him into a wall, cut off his air… But with a pace between them and room to breathe, doubt crept into Narcissus’ conscience.

Maybe there wouldn’t have been more than that. He’d felt the pressure ease even before his magic had worked. Rakovanite may have even stepped away from him before it did. But why, why would he put his hand on his chest if he wasn’t going to- To… well, you know. He swallowed, fumbling to blindly rake his hair behind his ear as he stared at the agent, body still tense because he didn’t know.

He just didn’t know what to think or what to do or what had even happened.

Except that he-

He’d used his magic on a person. It wasn’t punching or cutting or breaking in the sense that most people recognized injuries. But the mind was much more delicate. Injuries to the mind lingered. They were hard to detect and heal. And Narcissus had attacked another person. He shivered. And he wasn’t even sure if Rakovanite would’ve killed him. Narcissus didn’t know if he’d been in danger such to merit hurting someone.

There was a crash down the street, and his gaze flicked briefly toward the youma as it smacked into a garbage can. All the civilians seemed to have fled. The street hadn’t been busy to start with, and none of the stragglers had lingered to see what looked like a wild hog charging at people.

He should still make sure it didn’t get too close to anyone else.

But the man standing so close to him looked… dulled, somehow… “R-Rakovaite?” He asked softly, fingers reaching out as if he might touch, but unsure if he could or should. Would he be angry once the effects ended? Narcissus hadn’t known if he was trying to kill him or not, but it didn’t negate the possibility. Should he still be here once the magic wore off?

“I’m… I’m really sorry,” Narcissus whispered as he slipped to the side, freeing himself from the barriers of the wall behind him and Rakovanite in front of him.

Why would he even do this if it wasn’t being of use to someone? What was the point in giving so much of his time and effort? Rakovanite had wanted this, and if it only existed as a means to exhaust and belittle him in the face of the entire rest of the human race, why would he push so hard. Then when they said there was something wrong with him, he wouldn’t be able to argue… It was pointless, useless. He felt tired and hopeless just thinking about it.

It didn’t matter how he’d reasoned it before when he felt so pathetic and unwanted now.

A stuttered breath left his lips, and it was only in some far corner of his mind that he registered the sound of a voice. It felt far away, though, not meant for him, even when it whispered his name. The hand that hovered near him may have been reaching for someone else.

Rakovanite was far, far away from here. Everything looked and felt and sounded dulled. Where was his place here? Had he ever had one? It had always felt like he was just existing…

Seconds ticked, and he didn’t move.

But all at once it felt like he returned to himself. Rakovanite felt lighter in the next instant, as if he could breathe and think and exist again. He was here. He wanted to be here. That made the most sense, and that was how he looked at things: sensibly.

His gaze lifted to see Narcissus scooting away from him, whispering a soft apology as he did. The ire from a handful of seconds resurfaced rapid-fire (the senshi had attacked him with magic), and then piddled out just as quickly. Sorry? Rakovanite barely understood. Fear always made people act recklessly. Even if he hadn’t intended to hurt this boy, that didn’t change how he’d thrown him, pinned him, yanked at his hair…

Rakovanite stepped back silently, dark gaze lowered slightly.

He couldn’t keep hold of the rage, the odd effects of the magic still leaving a lingering doubt, but there was still a heavy mistrust toward the senshi. He could reason out ‘why’ the other man had thought it necessary, but it was hard to fully release the wariness that still stirred in him.

That look was… not completely unlike the one he’d seen in the park. Rakovanite’s gaze lowered, but Narcissus could still recognize the doubt and mistrust that clouded his vision. A part of him wanted to ask what it felt like, to hear a first-hand account of his magic’s effect…

But he didn’t think Rakovanite would be particularly willing. The man didn’t exactly look eager to hang around, as he put more space between them.

That was probably for the best, Narcissus decided, even if he was still worried about any unwanted effects that may hang around in Rakovanite’s thoughts. It was for the best if they both went about their business now. Narcissus still wanted to follow that youma and make sure it didn’t run into anyone unsuspecting. He still needed to make sure it was sent packing back to the Rift, and once Rakovanite was out of the vicinity, Narcissus would be more comfortable calling one of his own to help him.

“I h-have to go, okay?” He asked softly, as if seeking some kind of permission from the agent. “The magic doesn’t last very long. You’ll f-feel better after a night of sleep, I think.” He hoped.

He still wanted to be reassuring, still wanted this other human being to know that nothing in the world was so bad. Narcissus reached a hand out again, moving close enough so he could lay it on the agent’s shoulder. He was supposed to be learning how to be better in his attempts at reassurance. He couldn’t just leave his magic’s effects completely untended to. “You go home too, alright?” He asked.

“You’ll feel better, I pro-” No, he wasn’t supposed to make any kind of promises. That was truly bad business sense, for a doctor. He swallowed and murmured instead, “It’ll help.”

With that, his hand slipped from Rakovanite’s shoulder, and he hesitantly turned away from the agent, casting a quick glance over his shoulder before he ran, moving off in the direction he’d last seen the youma.

A part of him recognized that he had started this whole endeavor with the intent to intervene in the affairs of anyone who would stand between a youma and its targets. He'd expected it would be a White Moon senshi, and Rakovanite had come out anticipating that he would get into a fight. He'd wanted one. He'd been ready for one. It shouldn't have mattered that a Dark Mirror had shown up instead.

Anyone who got in the way of the Negaverse's energy gathering was an enemy, and he should put a stop to their interference.

As Narcissus moved to chase the youma, still intent on ensuring no one came to harm from it, Rakovanite realized that he should also give chase. The mission wasn't technically done if Narcissus continued to fight.

But he was suddenly so tired.

He deeply wanted to go home, as the senshi had suggested. He wanted to wrap himself up in his blankets and stay there until the light of morning reminded him that he was a person who needed to actually accomplish things if he wanted to keep living his comfortable life. Rakovanite brushed his fingers over his coat at his shoulder, as if dusting away the touch the senshi had held there.

Fine. It wasn't as if he had gained nothing from the day. It hadn't been what he'd hoped for. He hadn't faced a White Moon or stopped Narcissus from interfering in Negaverse matters.

But at least he'd been able to uncover what that Dark Mirror's magic was. He'd been concerned about scaring off a potential ally, but Narcissus's gentle words that seemed almost worried for him suggested that even if the senshi had been frightened, it wasn't so terrible that it dissuaded him from helping people...

Rakovanite inhaled deeply and released a quiet sigh. Okay. He would go home.
