...Kibirev was also her crush, but that wasn't important. Obviously. That part was like, a minor detail in the grand scheme of things.
All that being said, she had specifically asked Kibirev to patrol with her tonight because there was supposed to be a meteor shower, and she really, really wanted her friend to see it with her. By the time it was supposed to start, she'd found her way to a nice roof, and beckoned Kibirev over to sit on the edge of it with her.
"So, uh. There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight, and I maybe brought you here because I want to watch it with you. If! If that's okay with you. We don't have to. Obviously."

Glancing over at Sappho, Kibirev gave a little grin. “…I mean…I’m already here. It would be a little weird to just…leave?” She laughed softly and reached over to brush some of the other senshi’s bangs from her face. “I’m more than happy to watch the meteor shower with you. You’re fantastic…and this seems like it’ll be a great spot to do so.”
She wore a little smile and stretched slightly, letting her legs kick over the side of the roof, her eyes sliding to look up into the sky.
“I’ve seen a few shooting stars before…but…the idea of a real meteor shower just sounds…a lot more magical. Like, I hope there’s a lot that we get to see…I want to be utterly blown away by it!”
The smile grew, but then faded for a moment and she looked worried, turning once again to Sappho. “…Not like the dinosaurs though. I don’t want to literally be blown away. Obviously.”

[ Sappho felt her face heat up, and was sure her cheeks had to at least go a little pink when Kibirev brushed her bangs away from her face.
"I'm glad. I....wouldn't want to do this with anyone else." That was....definitely sappy, and probably a little dumb, but Sappho didn't care. She leaned back a little, resting her weight on her hands, and stared up at the sky, and she couldn't help but smile, faintly.
"Right? I can't wait to see what the whole thing looks like. I bet it'll be incredible." She glanced over, taking in Kibirev's smile, but she laughed softly--not in a mo0cking way, very much in a fond one--when Kibirev expressed her concern.
"Oh, I think we'll be okay. Meteor showers are just little rocks, nothing big." She turned back to the sky--and her whole face lit up. "Look! There they go!" Indeed, bright colors were beginning to streak across the sky, and Sappho's eyes got very wide.
"Wow....I didn't know they came in purple or orange, like that..."

Kibirev nodded, and her eyes slid back to the sky. “Are you going to make a wish? Does it still count as something...wishable if it’s a meteor shower instead of just a lone shooting star?” It felt like a valid question and she chewed on her lip for a moment before closing her eyes.
“If they’re purple or orange...maybe we should make a wish...it might be worth it...don’t you think?”
The senshi clasped her hands in front of her for a moment, going quiet, and then opened an eye, peering over at Sappho.
“...What are you going to wish for?” Even though that would make it not come true...she wanted to know! If there was magic happening...well...why shouldn’t they both know?

"I think it counts," Sappho said, voice soft. She watched the meteors streak across the sky for a moment, before looking back over at Kibirev.
She was so beautiful, especially lit like this, by the stars and the falling meteors...it made Sappho's heart do things. And she could take a long moment to take Kibby in, with her eyes closed like that, though as soon as Kibirev opened one eye, Sappho's cheeks went pink and she ducked her head, looking away like some kind of nervous idiot.
"I, um. Well, I was going to wish....there's this girl, who's very special to me, and I was hoping....she might like me. The way I like her." She looked back over at Kibirev, heart pounding, cheeks still pink. It was just shy of an admission, and Sappho wasn't sure if she'd tread too far into some dangerous waters.

“Oh!” Kibirev paused and looked over at the other girl, her eyes wide and curious. “Really? I hope she likes you the way you like her too!” Ah…
There was a strange, unhappy burning in the senshi’s chest and she tried very hard to force it down. She knew what that felt like...and it...oh it could end so badly.
“You deserve the world, and I hope you know that. You’re super nice, and so pretty and a really, really, really good friend...and I hope you get the girl of your dreams!” Even if it wasn’t her.
Ah...this was disappointment. And hope...and jealousy.
It was a whole lot of not so great feelings jumped into one tiny package that was her chest. Kibirev did not recommend it.

Sappho inhaled, and then let out a quiet breath.
Okay, so, Kibirev had...not....gotten that hint. Or she was playing dumb, which seemed unlikely--Kibirev had always struck Sappho as sweet and straightforward, and the way she was talking, it had definitely gone over her head.
"Well, I mean, I, um." Sappho paused, hoping that maybe if she came back to it, she would be able to make herself make sense, instead of just saying words. "It's just....the girl I like, she...ugh," she groaned, but only out of frustration with herself.
"She's you, Kibi, and if you don't feel the same way, that's fine, I get it, I just--I wanted to tell you, and this seemed like such a perfect time, with the meteors and everytihng, and..." She trailed off, a little messily.

Kibirev paused and then froze, looking over at Sappho with a confused expression. “...But...you’re my friend. And I’ve been trying so hard not to…” She swallowed and grit her teeth for a moment, blowing out a long, unsteady breath. “...I’ve been trying hard not to um. Feel anything more than that because when I do, my friends always seem to leave me and we never talk again and I just…”
She felt her cheeks growing warm and she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear just to give her hands something do to, and hopefully get them to stop trembling. “You swear you’ll keep being my friend? Even if we kiss right now? You’re not going to change your mind? Because. I want to kiss you. This is literally the perfect moment...and you’re perfect and it’s really hard not to have a crush on you and…”
Balling her hands into fists, Kibirev glanced up at Sappho, biting her lip. “...You’re serious right now?”

Kibirev's confusion made Sappho's heart sink, at first. It was hard to guess where this was going, right up until Kibby started explaining, and Sappho's heart did a happy little flip.
"That--you--um?" Sappho shook her head, in lieu of trying to make words come together. "That's not going to happen. I promise. I'm not going anywhere, even if--especially if--we kiss, right now. Even if we didn't, or you didn't want to, I would still want to be your friend, but if you do...."
Sappho broke into a smile. "Maybe we can be a little more than just friends."
She reached out, going to cup Kibirev's cheek, and leaned in for that promised kiss.

Kibirev felt her heart utterly stutter when she felt a warm hand against her cheek, and then saw Sappho’s face leaning closer. Oh God. They were going to kiss...she was going to be kissed here, watching a beautiful meteor shower and...and…
And it was Sappho who wanted the kiss. Sappho who was starting the kiss...this wasn’t Kibirev forcing her feelings on someone this was…
This was someone who wanted her. There was a moment of hesitation before the eternal senshi crossed the small distance and pressed her lips against Sappho’s. “Yes. Yes I think I would really like that...if you mean it. If you mean that you won’t leave me and just...I mean it’s fine if you change your mind! I get it just…” She swallowed. “...Don’t just disappear...please. I can’t handle that again.”

Sappho sighed contentedly into the kiss, eyes closing, and she took the brief moment their lips were pressed together to enjoy the softness of Kibirev against her.
"I promise, I'm not going to disappear on you, Kibirev. You're far too important to me for that." She brushed a thumb over Kibirev's cheek, giving her a smile that was achingly adoring, and leaned in to steal another brief kiss.
"I'm not going anywhere. Not unless you send me away."

Kibirev nodded and gave a happy sigh, simply melting. “I won’t do that...I promise I won’t send you away...that would be terribly rude and that’s not...how I like to be.” She couldn’t stop a giddy giggle at the second kiss and nodded again. “All right. It’s settled then. You won’t disappear, and I won’t send you away...and we’ll kiss under the stars um...often! Maybe? If you want to?”
She certainly wanted to…
“Would you um...want to go on a real date with me sometime? We can hold hands...if you want to…” Again…she certainly wanted to.
She would have given anything for this to not be a one time thing...for this to actually work out…
For the chance to keep her friend and be happy.

Sappho nodded, giddy and eager herself. This was so much better than she had hoped, and a romantic daydream she could only have imagined.
"I definitely want to. Kiss under the stars, and go on a real date, and hold hands. Oh! And you should meet my family, but like, only when you're ready." Because her parents and Alistair would all love to meet Kelly, she was sure, butt hey were...a lot, to dump on anyone.
"For now, though...a real date. Somewhere nice. Dinner and a movie, maybe?"

Kibirev gave a small smile and nodded eagerly. “Dinner and a movie...yeah, I like that very much! I would like that very much!” She hesitated and stole one last quick kiss before standing and holding out her hand. “Now? Do you want to go now? I want to go now. I want…”
Oh lord. She wanted a lot. And maybe...just maybe this time she would actually get it.
...That would be nice.
No. She would get this. And she had the chance. It wouldn’t be wasted. “Dinner’s on me tonight!”
