Reina had went to explore the palace gardens while her mother worked on some official duties. The youngling was older now and had been in and out of the place enough times that her mother trusted her to stay in the allowed areas. Reina knew that it was important to stay in the areas that she knew since her mother could find her easily but it didn't mean that she wasn't ever tempted to maybe peek into some of the unknown areas as well. Just stay in view of the big window there on the left. She mused quietly to herself as she glanced back towards the palace wall with a small frown. She had been in this area a couple of times by now and she enjoyed splashing about the fountain which was in the center of the open area, its sand colored base ornate and engraved to look like various oban creatures. It was pretty, especially with all the flowers growing about in the hedges surrounding the little area, and had a wide base to sit on which Rein often enjoyed balancing on as she walked around the fountain instead.
Enjoying the cool mist from the splashing waters, Reina pulled herself onto the base and started walking in wide squares around the water. With the slight breeze in the air it was nice and refreshing compared to the typical desert heat. Reina stretched out her arms and closed her eyes for a moment to let the coolness soak into her skin. At least she coudl enjoy this while her mother worked on things. Though it was kinda lonely and for a second she wondered if the princeling would be around today or not.

Nicias had been shoo'd from his room earlier by his mother, being told 'It's too nice of a day to stay in your room. Maybe you'll even have a friend visit if you get out and do something!' So reluctantly, Nic left his room and went to the playroom. Walking down the wall of books he made his way past the windows when something moving outside caught his attention. Backtracking, he watched as Reina played in the fountain. His Momma must've known that Miss Varinia would be bringing her today. The young oban left his book on the table before going through a series of doors to get outside to the garden. Being the sneak he was, he peeked out from one of the shrubs to see her stretching her arms out with her eyes closed. A rare moment of mischievousness captured him as he snuck forward and splashed her quickly before running away to try and find another hiding spot.

"Eep!" A soft gasp left her lips as Reina found herself suddenly splashed by the cool water. How had that happened? Reina stopped so that she could survey the gardens. Someone else definitely had to be here! It was daytime after all and none of the spookies came out until after sunset. Or at least not out in the open like this. There had to be some creepy area that was dark first! That was how Reina reasoned with thoughts of ghosts and the like. So if it wasn't them then who would it be? Her crimson gaze narrowed suspiciously as she slowly started to walk about the fountain once more, her attention on the numerous hedges and flowers decorating the nearby paths.
Maybe if she was patient she would find out soon enough? Taking a breath, Reina nodded before slowly lowering herself so that she was sitting on the fountain and even pretended to close her eyes for the most part. Hopefully it was tempting enough for whoever was playing around with her! Secretly she shifted so that her hands could scoop of some of the cool water for herself, the droplets slipping slowly through her fingers as she kept her hands on her lap and her back to the other part of the gardens.

Nic had to refrain from laughing as she looked around suspiciously. He kept to his hiding place, however, and waited until he thought she was settled again. But he knew better than to try the same thing twice! All the books about trapping and catching things said to not be too predictable and what was a better way to practice than on his friend? Waiting a little bit longer, he tried to sneak along the bushes to the other side of the garden where one of the gates was. Perhaps he could open and shut the gates and walk in like he had only just arrived. That was his plan anyway. He was almost there, if he could just...reach...the lever that opens it....triumphantly he grabbed it and made a whole bunch of noise in the process so he jumped up and out of the bushes quickly as if he had just walked in. He neglected to notice the leaves that had gotten stuck in his hair. "Hey Reina! I didn't know you were coming today!" Nic called out happily, still trying not to laugh.

Reina was surprised when she didn't get splashed again. Had her attacker gotten bored? Was her trap too obvious? This was taking way too long! Shouldn't something have already happened by now? Pursing her lips into a pout the youngling let the water flow from her fingers and back into the fountain before the sudden noise at the gates had her nearly jumping once more. What was going on this time? Quickly wiping her wet hands against her leggings the youngling turned and sighed as Nic showed up. If it hadn't been Nic then who had...wait a second. Something is fishy about this. Reina's gaze darted towards the leaves decorating his hair thoughftully, "Yeah. Momma had some work today so here I am." She replied as she walked towards the princeling, "So did you just get here?" She asked casually as she stopped before him, "I'm surprised you came outside instead of me havin' to dig through some books to find you."
She couldn't help teasing him about how much he read. While Reina was outside chasing around things with her wooden sword the other youngling seemed much more content to be reading about swordfights instead. She would never understand how that was more thrilling than experiencing the action itself. Not that she never read but mostly that was because of the tutors that her mama brought home on occassion. Who would want to do it for fun instead?

He laughed somewhat nervously, "Yeah I just got here. But you know, I would probably still be inside reading if my Momma didn't tell me I had to stop reading." He shrugged and scratched the back of his neck, finding one of the leaves that had gotten stuck and quickly pulled it out and held it behind his back. He walked over to the fountain and sat on the edge. "Well I'm glad Miss Varinia brought you by. What should we do today?" He asked. It was a pretty decent day out, they could probably stay outside for awhile before they got too hot. Or they could go inside. Maybe they could raid the kitchen for all the sweet stuff. So they had options but what would Reina want to do?

"I see." Reina nodded as she followed him towards the fountain, "I dunno. I was just enjoying the fountain for a bit and momma said to stay in the area out here buuuut....I haven't really walked all of the gardens before. Have you? Or do you have some other cool place to show me this time?" As she spoke she moved forward so that she could pick a couple of the leaves from his hair, "Strange I didn't know you were becomming a shrub." She teased lightly as she brushed out the rest of the leaves. Even if she had the suspicion that her mysterious splasher was sitting right before her the youngling didn't say a word about it. She would let him have his fun but later she would get him back somehow. Maybe they could take a swim into the fountain together later. The thought brought a mischevious grin across her features before she quickly forced it away. She would behave....for now.

The boy sighed, "Just a personal art project I guess." He couldn't help but laugh at his own joke. "Hmm..." He thought. "We could try to go to that one place but it'd be out of here and I haven't been allowed to go out by myself before..." Nicias stuck one of his hands in the water to enjoy the coolness of it while he thought. Would it really be okay if they went out together? I mean, he technically wouldn't be alone...he just didn't know if his momma would take that reason or not. He bit his lip as he thought it over, a bad habit he was developing.

Reina let out a small 'pfft' at Nicias, "Art project, hmm?" She couldn't resist teasing him, "I wonder if it goes well with water colors? I hear they have a nice splashing effect." Sitting down on the fountain next to Nicias, Reina pursed her lips in thought as he mentioned some place that was a bit out of their normal range. The youngling traced her hand in the water as she peered towards him. Sometimes it was like she could see exactly what he was thinking and the thought made her grin, "We really wouldn't be alone if we stuck together, right?" She commented slyly as her fingers started to 'walk' along the top of the water towards his own, "If anything you could blame me. I went too far but you wanted to make sure that I wasn't alone in case of trouble?" She knew he preferred to stay within the rules while she sometimes tended to break away from them. If they got caught it wouldn't be her first lecture and she was certain it would be worth it since she trusted Nicias.

"Reina, you're TRYING to get us in trouble aren't you??" Nic laughed as he gently pushed her shoulder which in turn kept his hand away from the water spider Reina's hand presented. "Ughhh" He groaned. "Okay lets go, but I'm not blaming you if we get in trouble. It was all my idea ok?" He grabbed her hand and pulled, making sure she didn't trip as she got out of the fountain of course before darting towards one of the sides of the garden that appeared to just be shrubs and flowers. "Be careful of that plant there..." He pointed out the tall purple one with small spikes on it. "It'll make your skin burn and itch if you touch it. But come this way." He led her through two bushes that were a little further apart than the others or perhaps they just hadn't grown well, and Nic took her to a secret gate. "Ok now we gotta be quiet..." He whispered. "Sometimes there's people on the other side." He added, still whispering as he pulled her along.

"Trouble? Me? Never." Reina gasped dramatically, her free hand fluttering up towards her forehead. Still she couldn't help the grin that spread across her features as Nicias agreed to go on an adventure outside of their normal area. She was super curious about what he was planning and excitement thrummed through her body, "So valiant. I guess we can both take the blame if it happens~ " She chirped happily as she allowed him to lead the way. Her fingers tightened around his own as he pointed out the strange plant, "Got it." Reina's nose scrunched up at the description. Why would they plant something like that here in the gardens? At the same time she kinda liked it. Talk about giving things depth with an extra edge of danger!
Crouching she slowly inched after Nic, "Really?" She whispered as she tried to peer over his shoulder, "Will they see us or do we just wait?" She was so curious! What if someone was there? Did they need a distraction? Her crimson gaze darted about thoughtfully. Could she throw a stick or something? Fake some strange animal noise? Slam the gate then run away? I suppose I'll wait and see what Nic wants to do first.

Nicias couldn't help the eye roll that happened at Reina's dramatics but didn't comment on it further. He slowly pulled open the metal gate that surprisingly wasn't rusted and waited another moment to see if he could hear anything. Turning slightly, he put a finger on his lips in the universal 'stay quiet' symbol as he peeked out into the walkway. "Okay, coast is clear." He said, still quietly, as he pulled her out after him. Letting go of her hand, he brushed off his clothing before picking a few stray plant pieces off of Reina to help her. "Okay now we just have to go this way..." Nic pointed left down the stone path that had hedges on both sides which was going away from the palace. He held his hand out for her again and nodded his head back to the left again, "Come on!" His voice returned to a normal conversational volume and held a bit of excitement in his voice as well.

As soon as Nic said that the coast was clear Reina ran. Her heart was beating wildly in her chest as they slowly came to a stop. Talk about exhilirating! Reina started to brush off some stray leaves before Nic's aid caused her to stop. A light flush decorated her cheeks again as she stayed patiently still while he plucked a few leaves from her clothing, "Got it." She whispered as she reached for his hand and allowed him to lead the way again. She couldn't help but to smile brightly as she recognized the excitement in his voice. This was so much fun already and she still didn't know exactly where they were going! Talk about a nice surprise. Reina beamed as she followed Nic closely, "How far are we going?" She asked in between breaths as she looked about. This definitely was someplace where she had never been before!

"Not much father..." He said leading her the rest of the way down the path. "We just take a right here..." He said when the path ended in a 'T' and he turned right. "And this will take us to somewhere really neat I promise." Nic hadn't told her where they were going yet so he wasn't going to spoil it just because he was excited. "Do you know how long your Mom was going to be? Just so we can try and be back in time." He walked at a pace that was neither fast nor slow as he wasn't currently in a hurry, he swung their conjoined hands between them with every step.

"I just hope you remember this on the way back." Joked Reina lightly as she followed him through all the twist and turns. Where exactly where they going? All Reina knew was that it better be good because Nic was really getting her hopes up! She bounced alongside of him, her steps only faltering at his question before she let out a small huff, "Probably all day. She seemed to have a big stack of parchment this time around like the other day. Will we get there and back before nightfall at this rate?" Reina knew that sometimes adults could really get caught up in business but the youngling felt like it was silly. Why waste so much time arguing about things instead of having fun? Like if they spent less time just talking and went out to enjoy things instead the world surely would be a better place! Plus some of those older nobles enjoyed bickering so much that Reina wondered how they got anything done. The thought made her frown. She was thankful that she didn't have to deal with any of that stuff! Hopefully never cause I'll just keep going on adventures like this!
