The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:

Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.

The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”

If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

Her afternoon had been spent running errands and making sure that everything was in place for an upcoming event because whilst she knew that she wasn't the only coordinator responsible for the event, a lot of work had gone into coordinating and arranging things for it and Saffron wanted to make sure that she was doing her part so that it would all be a success come the day of the event–

Even if it had led to a few days - well okay make that quite a few days - where she had ended up working over her working hours.

She hadn't realised just how close she was to Town Square after she finished the last of her tasks, until she saw the large tree up ahead of her - the wishing tree.

Saffron chuckled softly to herself at that, because she was old enough to know that the tree couldn't actually grant any wishes, but it was something that was such a part of the star festival that she couldn't really picture the star festival without it–

And it wasn't as if the tree wasn't striking with the beautiful purple flowers that dangled from its branches or the lovely star-shaped ornaments that were currently nestled in the tree - and a friend had told her that the tree was even prettier in the evenings - because then the tree had also been decorated with would glimmer.

The decision to join the small line of people of those waiting to take a piece of paper from the stack of paper next to the tree had been an impulsive one, albeit not one Saffron regretted - although a part of her wished that she had something on hand to rifle through whilst she waited - like a magazine.

The queue move quickly enough however, maybe as a side result of the time of the day, and it wasn't long before the only person left in front of her had been a tall young man with messy red hair that was tied in a small ponytail.

He'd made his selection quickly, grabbing the topmost sheet and a pen before scribbling quickly as he moved away.

Saffron, however was not quite so quick, a slight frown on her lips as she considered the various pieces of coloured paper with twine pre-attached ready for hanging up before settling on and selecting a pale yellow one because it seemed... Cheerful.

She moved aside herself, not sure quite what to wish for now that she had her paper–

And it wasn't because there were any restrictions, because she knew that there wasn't even if people were generally encouraged to write down something vague and something that wasn't for self gain.

What to wish for? What to wish for?

Saffron wasn't sure how long standing there as she pondered the question, absently tapping the pen that she had retrieved from her small handbag as she did so, but eventually she neatly wrote down in the centre of the piece of paper:

Quote:
I wish that the person who takes this wish will do one spontaneously kind deed for the next person they meet.

And then she walked over to the nearest branch so that she could tie her wish to the tree before taking a wish that had been written on lilac paper for herself to do her best to grant.
