The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains:

Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park.

The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.”

If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

The summer season tended to result in more than a few accidents. Animals over heated and needed a little TLC to bring them back to sparkling, dogs got a little too excited at being able to run around in forests and through beaches... Only to take a slight tumble and end up in need of her services. Between the more routine appointments and the accidents that were fortunately not the end of the world for concerned owners, February had been more than a little busy. She certainly enjoyed the hustle and bustle, the enthusiasm and excitement were infectious, but every now and then she could have done with having a little bit of time to sit down.

This morning she hadn't really pursued the 'sit down' portion of this desire but she had certainly opted to take some time to herself. With appointments somewhat sparse this morning she had the bandwidth to breathe, and with the other consultants available, they wouldn't be left understaffed. Therefore her first port of call was to reacquaint herself with the nearby shops and all the lovely clothes they had.

It was her time of year.

Spring and Summer were when she got to wear her jazziest numbers and given she hadn't really spruced up her wardrobe yet it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. A few dresses here and there, a pair of sandals for good measure, and more than her fair share of accessories. Quite frankly she could have spent the better part of her day in this quarter of the city but given she was on a time crunch she had to make do with what she had for the time being.

She was on her way back to the subway when she found herself striding through Town Square, pausing briefly to admire the decorations every now and then. If she was entirely honest she hadn't thought much of the tree, she had certainly thought it was pretty but she wasn't the type to subscribe to that kind of magic... At least she normally wasn't anyway. It was only when one helpful seasonal guide wandered over to her that she was convinced otherwise. Sure, the wish might never come true but it was the season for it and while she might be busy it would do her some good to embrace it.

Destiny City was her home again and that meant that she should embrace some of its festivities, right?

Several moments later she found herself by the table, one that was proving quite popular among shoppers. Children, adults and the elderly alike were all carefully considering their wishes and on occasions, they were even taking them down to grant. It was a very endearing and sweet moment to watch, one that February would openly admit she could appreciate whether it was inspired by magic or not.

She pursed her lips as she looked at her coloured paper and then took a breath, more often than not she could get whatever she needed and wishes weren't something she relied on but...

I wish our patients had more sweaters.

She didn't leave her name, but she did at least attach some semblance of the Veterinary's Practices name. It wasn't much but if it happened to be picked up by someone then maybe they'd be in for a surprise.

A moment later she had woven the ribbon around the paper and tie it carefully to the tree.

Satisfied that she'd made some sort of wish that wasn't entirely unreasonable (though perhaps a touch odd), she gathered her bags and continued on her way. Having read the sign on her approach she did make a mental note to return later. If her wish was supposed to come true then she had to pay it forward right? It was only fair that she at least gave it ago... Just not right now when her arms were filled with bags and she was already running slightly late for her train.

She'd find another time to drop by, then she'd pick her own wish up.

It was a promise.
