Quote: The Wishing Tree (1): A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains: Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park. The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.” If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.

Whilst Mi-Hi had been meaning to visit the wishing tree in the town square whilst the star festival was still on, it had taken a while for her to get round to actually managing to do so.
The wishing tree was something that was almost synonymous with the star festival, a tradition, the beautiful tree in the town square something that came almost automatically to mind when she thought about the festival - albeit it was one that she hadn't had to chance to go and visit during last year's festival.
This year however Mi-Hi had been planning for things to be different - to the point where she had eventually managed to find time in between work and her studies to get down to the town square so that she could see this year's tree for herself–
And whilst it had meant varying her route home after work so that she could go home via the town square, Mi-Hi hadn't minded the extra time that the detour would add to her trip home.
It had been late when she had reached the town square and she could feel the tiredness dragging at her from what had been a very long day - but it had been worth it to see the tree glimmering in the darkness courtesy of the glistening lights that someone (or maybe multiple someones) had intertwined in the branches–
And it had been quiet as she stepped closer, close enough for her to see the small star-like ornaments nestled in the branches and the purple flowers that dangled from the branches.
Mi-Hi couldn't resist, reaching into her pocket to take out the disposable camera that she had picked up earlier this week and almost dropping the yellow charm that she'd been given earlier when picking up a cup of take-away green tea from one of the coffee shops close to her work place.
She managed to catch it though, quietly relieved at the save as she tucked the cute little gold charm back into her pocket.
A few snaps later, none of which quite managed to fully capture the beauty of the tree (even with her utilising the flash) and Mi-Hi finally stepped closer to the stack of blank paper and twine that someone had left by the tree, making a note to keep the best of the snaps once she got round to sending the camera off so that the film could be developed.
It took a few moments of careful rifling, but eventually Mi-Hi settled on a piece of pale green paper and carefully extracted it from the stack before carefully writing down her wish: Quote: I wish that someone will come and visit the display being put on by the pottery on the corner of Moonlight Avenue as the volunteers taking part have worked sooo hard on it And then she had added a heart, because she couldn't actually sign it.
Mi-Hi had hesitated for a moment, because whilst there were no rules for wishes, she knew that people were generally encouraged to write down something vague–
But the volunteers really had worked very hard on the display and the money from the entrance fee was going to be donated to a local charity and maybe a little bit of wishing tree magic was just what was needed.
She reached for a bit of twine and carefully threaded it through the paper before hanging up her wish so that it joined the many other wishes fluttering gently in the night breeze and then she carefully reached up again to take one of the wishes from the tree before walking to a nearby lamp post so that she could look over what was written.Quote: I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park! It seemed like something she could help with, albeit one that was going to have to wait for another day.
Mi-Hi carefully, tucked the wish into her pocket alongside the disposable camera and the golden charm, before starting to make her way back home.
She was going to try to get to the park as soon as she can so that she could do a little bit of litter clearing and then she was going to make sure bury the wish that she'd taken in the park.-- 720 words --
