The Wishing Tree (2) : Your wish is only said to come true if you grant the wish of someone else; when you write your wish, you must also take one off of the tree and do your best to grant it. What wish do you pull off, and how do you intend to ‘grant’ it? Do you work with someone else to grant this wish, or do you work alone? You may get approval from another player to use the wish their character hung up, but no names are attached so your character may not ever know who wrote it!
A year ago, December found himself here. It was the same time of day, same weather, same twinkling stars above and the same cool breeze that crossed his skin.
A year ago, he stood here alone, scared, sobbing under this wishing tree, wishing and praying time and time again for everything to simply stop. The memory of that time was hazier than he expected. Perhaps that's what happiness did. It made all the red across his eyes fade away, with the true colors of the world coming out vibrantly for the first time since he left that dark little room he grew up in.
He couldn't honestly remember his wish from back then though... Dawn was near peeking over the horizon, and he remembered a few bits and pieces about pain, scribbling down the quickest wish he could before scrambling away from the area, burying it in shame and fear that the wrong person would find it. Something about pain... Something about not being alone..
As he stood here now, he bit his thumb in thought. It was tradition, right? Make a wish, grant a wish, that hadn't changed. Last year, he had been selfish, and did nothing to help others. It made him doubt that he even had the right to make a wish this year. After all, he didn't really earn his wish being granted, not without doing the right thing first and making someone else's happen!
And that was fine! He was more than happy to go and make other people's wishes come true instead.
... Granted, though he had grown and gotten stronger, he didn't exactly have a lot of resources available to him..
Oh! But there was one, dangling from a high branch that he was absolutely certain he could help with! It was simple.. Sweet.. And in a way, sad.
I wish for more flowers to grow for the bees! He loved bees! And he loved flowers!
While he couldn't complete it right away, he knew at least where to get seeds. And where to plant them! It took a few days, what with work, and his Negaverse work but, he did eventually make it back to that hill where he had first met Milo.
Flowers would work here, he was certain... Sure, it was a public park, but no one would be against a bunch of flowers showing up on a hill, right? So he got to work! Hours and hours passed with his little hand-shovel, digging holes, planting seeds, and leaving little signs that they shouldn't be trampled on. Flowers for bees, and Flowers for Milo.
... Maybe, when he was human again, they could come back here together and paint the flowers... Well, not December painting them specifically, but Milo could paint them, and he could watch! And they could talk.. And...
Somewhere between his thoughts, December felt a few tears well up in his eyes. It wasn't as if Milo was gone, but... A youma didn't feel the same as a living, breathing human. They weren't as warm... They couldn't speak, and they tried to hurt people.
Milo wasn't like that. He was kind and sweet and still easily tempted by skittles... That was still the same, for sure.
And even if he wasn't, December was certain they could save him! Even he knew that these tears helped no one at all, and finally stood up, wiping his hands on his pants and nodding to himself, pleased with his work.
... Maybe Milo would like these even now. And honestly, he felt as if he earned his wish... And maybe even another one.
After planting that slip of paper, he finally scribbled his own wish onto slip and placed it on a tree before heading home. This time... He was sure he didn't need someone else to grant it. He could grant it himself! He could save his friend, one way or another!
... He had to.
