Quote: Destiny City is hosting an annual scavenger hunt during the Star Festival to encourage people to get out and explore their city. The prize for turning in a completed scavenger hunt is a coupon booklet and a few free tickets to upcoming city events. Even if you aren’t interested in the prize, the scavenger hunt is specifically designed to take you through the city to showcase a few historic buildings, some art installations, and some of the city’s greatest accomplishments. While many of the places are familiar, during your explorations you come across a building you’ve never seen before--something that feels out of time. You’ve been in the area countless times before, so how did you miss this place? When you lay eyes on the building, you feel a strange timelessness and have the distinct sensation of being a part of something bigger. Briefly, you may see flashes of some distant past--a flickering memory that you can’t quite place or fully form. It’s hard to make out, but at some point in time you have the distinct impression of a faded figure taking your hand and telling you to do something. They sound hopeful and encouraging, like they really believe in you. By the time you blink, the visions are gone, the building is gone. The only thing that remains is a beautiful little garden and a plaque so faded that you can’t make out the inscription.

One of the listed events that was taking place during the star festival was a scavenger hunt and whilst Briar hadn't been particularly interested in the prize per se, the idea of spending an hour or so wandering around the city had sounded kind of fun.
A part of him had felt a little disappointed that he hadn't been able to catch up with Kirra or one of the others, because it was the sort of thing that would have been fun to have a little company for–
But Briar hadn't let the lack of company daunt him as he packed a notepad, some pens and a couple of drinks into his backpack and stopped by the shop where he tended to pick up tuna sandwiches for Tomlin in order to pick up some chocolate chip cookies just in case he ended up wanting something to munch on.
He hadn't expected the chocolate chip cookies to be fresh out of the oven when he'd arrived at the shop, but gooey chocolate chip cookies were still something of a personal weakness and Briar had found himself having to buy a second batch to take along with him after munching through half of the first set that he'd bought.
Eventually, however, he was finally underway and ready to start scavenger hunting.
Briar had made the decision to start with the art gallery - because it was the place that he was least interested in and would have skipped altogether if not for the fact that there were a couple of art installations on the list.
It had taken him longer than he would have like to track down and check them both off and by the time that he'd finally finished up his rucksack was definitely a couple of cookies lighter from the small break that he'd taken in between finding art installation #1 and trying to track down art installation #2
Briar had gone to the science museum next, because there was an exhibit there on the list, but had spent longer than he'd planned lingering because there had been a couple of new exhibitions - and because he quite liked the science museum even if he didn't really go there that often.
The historical museum had been next, since it was relatively close to the science museum and it made sense to cross both off at the same time and then he'd had to stop and pick up a few sandwiches, because his stomach was grumbling out for something that was a bit more substantial than the cookies and had received a blue star charm alongside his order from the cheerful shop assistant.
It was during his second (or maybe it was his third) wind, that Briar saw the building.
It was well into the afternoon and he'd just finished checking a monument off from the list and the building was on the opposite side of the road to him.
The strangest thing was that Briar couldn't ever recall there being a building there, even though he'd lived in Destiny City all his life - but there was most definitely a building there, a strange almost timelessness about it and as his reddish eyes continued to peer at it Briar had the weirdest sensation of being part of something - something bigger!
He saw flashes of things too, a flickering almost memory that felt like it was from some time in the past - but it wasn't one that fully formed and neither could Briar quite place it–
And there was a voice too and a faded figure taking his hand - and whilst Briar hadn't managed to quite make out any words, it had seemed like the figure was asking him to do something, the voice encouraging and hopeful - almost like...
Almost like whoever it was believed in him.
Briar wasn't sure just how long he had been standing there but at some point he must have blinked–
Only to find himself promptly blinking again when he realised that the mysterious building was no longer there.
There was however a garden, one that Briar found himself promptly crossing the road to take a better look - because there had been a building - he was sure there had been a building–
Maybe there had been a building but there was a garden now, one that was beautifully tended with a plaque that had an inscription that was too faded to actually read.
Briar stared at the plaque for a few moments and then a few moments more, before eventually shaking his head and pulling out the scavenger hunt item list.
For now he had a scavenger hunt to finish - but maybe, just maybe he'd mention it and the weird building when next he got a chance to catch up with Kirra and the others.
