Quote: The City has been lit up for the Star Festival with banners and twinkling decorations strewn off the windowsills of shop fronts and windows. The gardeners at one particular park have put their heart and soul into creating a fairy's paradise: Fairy lights have been carefully dangled from trees to make strings of stars, little beaded jewels have been hidden among the hedges, and even the old cobwebs have been sprayed with just a touch of glitter. The park is open to everyone and the citizens of Destiny City have been invited to respectfully explore the hidden wonders that have been placed throughout. The park is magical enough on its own but there have also been reports of a strange, ethereal and shimmering stranger in the park. The glimmer of a beautiful costumed figure fluttering through the park has been passed around as rumor, and no matter what anyone claims to see, no one can take a picture of it. As if simply seeing some magical figure isn’t mysterious enough, there are also reports of mischief and small pranks being played at the same time this figure seems to appear.
"Kai!" Calling out as he approached the other, he'd set up to meet the other at the entrance gates to the park, he was ready to get exploring. he'd heard there was some female, who looked like a fairy, turning up. But no one could manage a picture...he was sure it was some sort of magic, not uncommon in this city. That in mind he wasn't taking risks, he had his henshin pen tucked into the pocket of the loose hoodie he was wearing. He didn't trust anything magical in this city, he'd seen too much over time.

The possibility of this being a date had not once crossed Kai's mind as he had gotten ready to go meet up with Xi-Wang. While he would readily admit that Xi and Gabriel were hot as hell and wasn't shy of flirting with them, he also knew they both ere dating each other and wasn't about to step on any feet. Besides friends were allowed to hang out as friends, no dating required. Instead he was looking forward to learning more about the taller man while they explored the city and all the decorations hung up everywhere. And boy did he mean everywhere as there was plenty of decorations just on the walk to where he was meeting up with Xi. Briefly he wondered just how long that people would be finding glitter all over the city once the event itself was over with but for now that didn't matter and he turned his attention to where he currently was. The short teen could see the park entrance where he was meant to meet up with Xi and it wasn't hard after that to spot said, in comparison, giant. Kai gave a bright smile as he met Xi half way, coming to a stop once he was by the other man. "Hello there, seems like we have good weather for sight seeing and cryptid hunting." He added the last bit with a bit of a teasing hint to his voice. Xi-Wang had mentioned the rumors as being one of the reasons why he wanted to check out the park and Kai couldn't help but want to poke some fun at him in a friendly way. "Of course I don't know about you but I left my fairy net at home." A pretend sad shake of the head came with that last bit but a playful wink came a moment after. Frankly Kai didn't really think the rumors were based on anything real, even with weird stuff happening in the city all the time he did not believe in fairies. It didn't even cross his mind that it could be something magical pretending to be a fairy though.

"I don't know if I'd call a fairy a cryptid...but it is nice weather to be out in the park." And likely have glitter fall into their hair and onto them, but he was ok with that. He was really just hoping to see what was in the park, he sort of hoped it was a fairy in all honesty.
Rolling his eyes and nudging the other he smiled. "A jar would work just fine...but I really am serious about what people are reporting in the park. You've heard it too, right?" Keeping close to the others side as he led them towards the main path in the park. "We'll be safe if we keep together. I don't trust what people are saying." He was, unlike Kai, being serious about things. He didn't trust it, he'd learned not to trust everything. The city wasn't safe all the time...or even most of the time really.

"Well I wouldn't call them a cryptid normally either so you got me there." Kai said with a grin and a shrug. Though he didn't normally think about what to call fairies normally anyway so the title of cryptid had just slipped out. Though he supposed that he could have just called it a fae or something similar it just hadn't really occurred to him at the time.
Xi-Wang's smile got an answering one in return and Kai gave a chuckle along with it. "I have yeah, I just figure someone is having fun playing dress up and playing a fun joke on people." He walked along with Xi, content to let the taller man lead them around. "Well I certainly didn't plan on splitting up anyway so not worries there." The smile that he had slipped a bit though and he gave Xi a curious look. "But is this really bothering you?"
He didn't want to make fun of something that actually was bothering Xi-Wang, that would not be good in anyway shape or form. Of course now he was wondering just what the other man had gone trough, if he had experience with the weirdness of the city or if he was just a believer anyway.

"No, it doesn't bother me. It just seems like a lot goes on in this city. Those big bats one year, no species is that big, and then ice spiders I heard. Something out of Game of Thrones." Shivering at the idea of ice spiders, whatever they had looked like in reality he didn't know, it wasn't an idea he wanted to ever meet with in reality.
"At least if anything happens here we'll be safe." He would make sure of that. As he reached out to hold onto the others shirt with long digits. He could keep himself and Kai safe, he knew it. He wasn't the strongest nor was he a fighter like Rhona...but if something happened he still had wings and he'd earned them.
"You don't believe in magic in a city like this though?" What happen if, or when, Kai found out about magic - about him and Gabriel. It would happen eventually...he was sure of it.

Kai gave a shrug at the other man's words. "Fair enough, I've heard about quite a few crazy sounding stories though I haven't personally experienced anything myself for all the time I've lived here. My family ended up taking vacations around the holidays that the animals came out as we typically end up visiting family out of state." He said after a moment of thought. He wasn't sure if they would end up doing the same this year or not though.
Eyes turning to Xi-Wang's face, he couldn't help but give an amused smile. "Well yeah, I doubt anything would actually be an issue here at the park." He placed a hand over Xi's and pulled it loose from his shirt only to thread their fingers together and he started to swing their arms a bit. "So just relax and let's have fun 'hunting'." Kai paused for a second to think about the question the taller asked then gave another shrug. "Like I said I haven't experienced anything weird yet. While I can believe something is going on, I couldn't tell you if it was actually magic."

He didn't like the idea of Kai being around for those events; he could get hurt. "If you stay for the holidays this year...I'll keep you safe." From him, being how he was, he knew it was doubtful and the words didn't make as much sense for Kai as it would for others. He could keep Kai safe - he knew he could.
For a moment he wanted to tell the other - to confess to his friend. But he didn't, he kept silent, it wasn't that he didn't trust Kai - he did. It was just that he didn't want to bring the other into his world...not really. It was magical, without a doubt, but it was also dangerous. It was a secret sort of world...his court sort of even felt like a secret society or something totally magical - like a small community. He couldn't help when his imagination went a little wild and romanticized things a bit.
"Hopefully we can find this fairy...and we can both see a bit of magic." Smiling at Kai as he gave the others hand a gentle squeeze. Oh, he was enjoying this outing too much. It was almost as good as going out with Gabriel.

Kai's expression scrunched a bit as he debated on how he felt about Xi-Wang saying that he would protect him. On one hand it felt nice that someone besides family worried like that, on the other hand he could very well take care of himself. "That's nice of you Xi but I don't really need protection from the weirdness that this city throws at people." He said after a moment, not even pointing out that of the two he himself seemed like the scrapper of the two, no matter the height 'issue'. Xi-Wang just didn't seem like a fighter to Kai.
He gave an easy smile though when the other man mentioned how he hoped to find the fairy. "Well that would be something if it turns out real, though even a well done cosplay would be cool to see."

So far the walk was innocent, for which he was glad even though he did want to see a fairy if he could, he was just glad they were both safe. "I don't know...this city produces some really strange things, some of it dangerous." Like the big bats...those were creepy. As big as people and vicious as well. Where they'd come from he didn't know, since he didn't believe the news stories at the time. He'd never heard of a bat species being that big, not anywhere. But he didn't continue on things. He knew they were safe, he was prepared.
"Either would be nice. Though I've heard people aren't able to take pictures - it vanishes. I wonder about that." He didn't know anyone who could teleport aside from the Negaverse. His own kind couldn't but if a mirror was say...under their feet. But still. Something wasn't right, as far as he figured it.
"I'm hoping we find it. It seems to move...or not be in just one part of the park."

Kai gave a thoughtful hum as he looked around the park. "Yeah I'm sure it does but I'm stronger then I look so I'm not worried." Sure he didn't know any traditional fighting styles but he can and will fight dirty if need be. Not that he wanted to test that theory out but it was enough that he wasn't going to let the older male continue to worry about his safety.
"Maybe whoever it is likes to practice stage magic so combined that with the cosplay to make it seem more real?" He said as his eyes briefly darted over to Xi then back into their surroundings. "It wouldn't surprise me if so, I've met some theater kids who would totally do that."

"Maybe. I've never cosplayed...but it looks nice some of the pictures I've seen." Some people really made it look good, using really good quality fabrics and such.
Laughing he gave the other a nudge gently. "I'm not surprised...I could see that." And as they rounded a corner he saw it - a glow and a person. Someone was there and they were glowing softly. He could feel his hand, the one Kai wasn't holding, move towards his tucked away henshin pen. It didn't seem to notice them but he was ready - just incase.
"There." Whispering to the other, as if Kai couldn't see what he was staring right at.

"Never? Have you ever dressed up for halloween? It's basically the same if you have." Kai gave a smile and a shrug. To be completely honest he had never cosplayed, but he had dressed up for halloween and knew a few people that said it was basically the same since people would either go lazy or go all out for both.
The smile turned into a smirk at the nudge but his attention was quickly taken by the glowing person that Xi-Wang had pointed out. "Well I guess the rumors were true then." He whispered back with a raised eyebrow.

"When I was really young...before my mother decided that it was wrong." He didn't want to say what it was to her, the words she hadn't used back then but he knew was her opinion of it. She'd never said the words but he knew his mother well enough to know what she meant, why she had stopped him from dressing up like his classmates and other kids in the neighborhood. It was all a part of a bigger picture...a bigger reason he hadn't fit in with his classmates. Sure people had gone to him for ideas, because he had an imagination, but friends...not really. Even those he'd had Xi-Wang had kept at arms distance. He didn't hang out, didn't invite them over, his friendships were contained to the school building where it was safe.
"Yeah...but now to see if it's a person or if it really is something not human." He whispered to the other. Moving for the shadows, incase they were seen, he kept as silent on his feet as he could. A small shiver of nerves, and held back excitement, as he pulled Kai close.
"I'm sort of hoping it's really not human..."

Kai would have given Xi-Wang's hand a squeeze at his words about his mother, hearing the old pain in those words, but he could admit to being rather distracted by the seemingly magic person in front of them. "You do know that if this is a real fairy then that means it could be one of the ones who tend to place curses right?" He whispered back teasingly as the slowly and quietly moved closer to the glowing person, letting himself be pulled closer to the other.
At the moment he figured it was just a person cosplaying using staging effects, likely hired by the city to add to the atmosphere, so he wasn't actually worried.

"It could...." But he hoped it wouldn't, if it was a real fairy, he wasn't sure that it wasn't a youma either to be honest. It could have been one...they could look like this - right? They didn't all look like beasts and monsters. At least he was fairly certain it was possible.
It was when the figure turned towards them, or at least he thought that's what they were doing, that he froze in place. Watching as the figure turned and rather than run off they just vanished! How they'd vanished he didn't know but before he could say anything he heard something else - something loud. From behind them a rumbling sort of sound, like an animal, could be heard. "Kai..."
Turning slowly he knew it wasn't normal...no way was it normal. "Youma..." The word passed his lips without him even realizing it.
