It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be pink, blue, and even purple in color. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.
Etoile loved to star gaze, and she made it a point to do so whenever the sky was clear enough at night, when she wasn’t already preoccupied, that was. Back when she still lived with Ilse, the little cat tended to spend an awful lot of time sleeping under the stars, as the older girl didn’t want her hanging around in her room; as such, it could be said she had more time for star gazing back then, but it wasn’t for particularly good reasons.
Dark days aside, tonight, Etoile sat on the windowsill in Alise’s room, looking out the open window to the night sky. Tonight, there was supposed to be a meteor shower, and Etoile didn’t want to miss it for the world. A blue star-shaped charm sat on Alise’s nightstand nearby, something Alise had found earlier in the day, and thought to give to the little cat, since it matched the color of the star on her forehead. While Etoile didn’t have anything she could do with it at the moment, having just recently finished designing her new outfit, she did have a new human glamour she could make use of now, so she was certain that she and Alise could think of something to attach it to later.
A streak of light shot across the sky, snapping Etoile out of her reminiscing, and turning her focus back to the lightshow going on outdoors. The little kitten sat with rapt attention, watching the lights stream across the sky, illuminating the darkness with tiny little bursts of color. They were mostly yellow and white, the usual colors Etoile expected to see, but as the night wore on, or rather, as an hour or so passed, the Mauvian noticed that some of the falling stars were even different colors! That got her attention, and Etoile watched even more intently, almost in a trance, as streaks of blue, pink, and even purple shot across the night sky, like glittering gems far far away.
Maybe the different colors were supposed to be something unusual, but Etoile wasn’t really a smart cat. Surely, if Alise was here, she’d have a word or two to say about this, something about the gods bestowing a blessing upon the magical kitten, but unfortunately, she was out of the house at the moment, having gone out looking for trouble on her semi-nightly patrol, so Etoile could only theorize as to how the conversation would have went. Later on, Etoile would watch scientists on the news explain about how it was just some scientific thing, but to her, it felt like it had been a magical experience, so she had a hard time really believing such an explanation.
Perhaps, in the end, Alise’s imaginary words held some truth, after all? For once, Etoile hadn’t been ‘cursed’, but instead, she had been ‘blessed’, and presented with an unforgettable experience that surely she would remember for the rest of her life… along with all the other unforgettable experiences, that was.
