Quote: The Charity Benefit (1) - A number of the local businesses in the area have come together to organise a charity benefit. In addition to a silent auction, there is also an evening charity ball. The community has been wanting to raise funds to fix up a few public areas for some time now and in the spirit of the Star Festival, these businesses have donated several prizes to the event to encourage people to attend. As one of the local residents you have been kindly invited to attend! Formal attire is encouraged but only required if you plan to attend the Ball.
As she was happily walking down the street she saw a familiar face. "Oh Jolene bonjour. It's lovely to see you." She said by way of greeting to the younger girl. She had gotten to know the girl since their chance encounter when the younger girl had awoken to her knighthood.
"Will you be attending the charity ball as well?" She inquired.

It was a gorgeous day, and Jolene was thrilled to be out for a walk. She hadn't planned to meet anyone, per se, especially since she didn't intend to do anything too important or to be out too long, but she still brightened when she heard her friend's voice.
"Ciel!" She turned and waved. "It's so good to see you! Yes, I'll be at the ball tonight--I was just out looking for a few accessories to complete my look. The dress has been taken care of, of course, but something for my hair..." She fluffed her auburn waves, illustratively. "What about you? Are you attending with anyone? Mother and Father can't make it, so I get to represent the family all by myself."

"Ah mind if I come with you I could use some new accessories myself." She asked brightly. She joined the girl as she fluffed her hair laughing lightly. After Jolene asked if she was going to the dance with anyone Ciel's mood dampened ever so briefly as she thought bitterly of Carlee and their fight almost a year ago now, she hadn't spoken to the girl since and it broke her already fragile heart. She shook her head clear of her sad thoughts of her former flame.
"No I was planning to attend on my own but if don't mind I would love to accompany you." She offered. "Us Cosmos girls have to stick together after all." she whispered conspiratorially.

"I'd like that!" Jolene said, smiling broadly. It would be nice to walk and shop with a friend, rather than on her own. Especially when she could ask for Ciel's opinion on things--the other girl always seemed so fashionably dressed, and Jolene would love to imitate such a gorgeous aesthetic. It might mature her style a little, which Jolene had to admit, she could probably use.
She saw Ciel's expression darken, and felt a little guilty--perhaps she had hit a nerve, though she couldn't guess what it was. Still, it didn't seem to last, and the second invitation made Jolene smile broadly. "I would love to go with you!" She said, and she nodded, eagerly. "We really ought to keep an eye on each other. Isn't that what sisters in arms should do?"

Ciel smiled at her friend. "Wonderful, I couldn't have said it better myself." Ciel said with a giggle. She linked arms with the other girl. "We have to look our best lest we put our knighthood to shame." She said in a low but jovial voice. "After Cosmos knight's are renown for their amazing fashion." She drawled in a exaggerated tone.
"I know a great store that we can go!" She said as she led the way to an upscale fashion store. "Maybe something gold for you, definitely something warm I would think." She mused out loud as she searched through the accessories.
She looked at the platinum jewelry trying to decide what would look best on herself. Then she saw a beautiful necklace set with a tear drop amethyst stone. "Oh what do you think about this. Do you think it would look good on me." She asked as she pointed out the necklace. She ultimately decided to purchase the necklace as well as a few bangles and hair accessories that she thought would look good on her and with the dress she had planned to wear for the evening.
"Want to go get something to eat before the ball there's a lovely cafe nearby, my treat." The white haired heiress offered. She was rather hungry after shopping and didn't feel like waiting till she got home, and besides she had given her staff the day off to celebrate the festival and she couldn't cook to save her life.

Jolene laughed, easily. It felt so good to spend time with Ciel, to laugh and joke--like having a real, blood sister, which she'd never experienced but had always sort of wanted. Alas, her parents were more than content with one child, and so this was the closest she would come.
Not that it was somehow lesser. From the moment she had become a Knight, Ciel had made Jolene feel safe, and confident, and powerful. That hadn't changed just because now they were doing this as civilians instead of facing down a powerful youma as Knight and Page. For now, though, their adventure was a high-end jewelry store, and there certainly wasn't nearly as much danger...but just as much excitement.
"If that's really what you think," she said, thoughtfully. "Gold does look good with my hair. Yellow and rose both, though I think yellow gold will compliment my outfit better, tonight."
She turned to look at the pendant Ciel presented, and gasped in delight. "Oh, that's lovely! Yes, you absolutely need it."
For herself, though, she selected a few pieces--a pair of star-shaped earrings, appropriate for the theme, a hairpiece that would keep her hair in the updo her parents had suggested, and a necklace and bracelet, gold with ruby inlay, that were meant to evoke fire. Not exactly stars, but stars were nothing without the fire at their hearts, right?
"A little something to eat sounds lovely, and then I'll have to duck home to get dressed," she said, as she followed her friend out, "but I'll look forward to meeting you at the ball!"
It was shaping up to be a truly magical evening.
