She'd never admit that her hands were shaking. She gripped her blades tightly and mentally told herself to ignore it. To push the feelings aside as she watched the ships out in the distance. The silver trees swayed in the evening sun, and she tried to let the noise calm her nerves. There, on the boat, was her past coming back to haunt her yet again. Her daughter and partner who she left behind for her own cause.
It pained her that she made the decision, and constantly she questioned if it was right. Now, she'd find out exactly what their thoughts were on that topic.
Biting her lip hard, she finally took a breath to steel her nerves before stepping into the open. As they pulled the boats onto the beach, she was the one who was guarding the area and thus was the one meant to greet them. Her dark eyes looked over Zayana, nodding in thanks for her playing the guide before she raised her brows at the guest.
Glancing over Zandala with a nervous swallow, she finally let her eyes land on Kanika.
"Welcome to Isle Kiros, home of Esena, soon to be the Great Mother who watches over the waters of Kahikina."
Nodding to them, and sending her wife an expression of remorse, she looked to the rest of the group, "Allow me to lead you to the village where you can rest and we can speak in privacy."
Strangers, they were strangers now, and it caused her chest to burn with shame as she looked at her family, together again. She avoided Zandala, choosing to address her later, and instead looked to Kanika. Her lips twitched as she fought efforts to smile in pride at how much her daughter had grown.

Kanika had stared down the Isle so intently, Zandala had asked her multiple times if she was okay. Her heart was constricting, anxiety fluttering in her stomach, and her anger roaring back to life. Her grip was so tight on the blades Lumikani had given her that her knuckles had gone white but they were supporting her. After all this time, all this traveling and annoyance and worry, they were finally here.
Kanika’s eyes first found her sister of course and was happy to see she was doing well, but still angry. So much time had been spent away from her, the separation had been hard since she had not been ready for it. Now however, after so much time, she had grown used to it. Then her eyes found her mother and stayed there, so many mixed emotions there. Kanika didn’t know what kind of state she would have been if Zandala hadn’t been there to pick up the pieces and put her back together. She had felt abandoned by her mother and now she was about to face her.
It was obvious Lumikani was avoiding Zandala, which Kanika could see clear as day. Kanika grabbed her mother's hand and held it, offering both of them comfort. Kanika met Lumikani’s gaze with a cool one of her own, there was no smile though. Too much had happened, too much left unsaid. Kanika followed them quietly, they’d have a much needed discussion when it was appropriate and away from prying eyes.

So that was that. The awkwardness she expected was in full force as she turned and moved through the woods. Zayana seemed also to feel the heavy weight, if her silence was anything to go by. Her daughter had been the loudest of the small sisterhood and always spoke about their water-dwelling neighbors. Lumikani could only imagine how the long trip from the coast must have been for the reunited family, if this silence was anything to go by.
Nodding to the sisters who lurked in the woods, she led the group deeper toward the center of the isle, where their camp was beginning to take shape. Initially, they worried more about the tree than their own dwellings, and now that Esena seemed to thrive, they were building their settlement with hopes of a new, stable life.
"Esena is well guarded by our sisters, I do not think we'll be able to see her today. But ahead is our settlement...you're welcome to find your own dwelling space or build off of ours..."
Nodding to her daughter who faded away toward the settlement, she turned back to look at her guests.
"I'm sure you have many questions..."
Strangers, they were strangers again.

Kanika didn’t mind the quietness, so much that it allowed her mind to wonder and take in the sights around her instead of focusing on what was happening in front of her. She’d always wanted to travel, or at least escape their camp to see a bit of the world. Here at least she was able to do just that. Explore a new world barely known to the rest. It was exciting and she wouldn’t let the current happenings sour her mood and excitement. She couldn’t wait to get all of this over with so she could do some exploring on her own. Truth be told, Kanika did not care much for the new tree, so not seeing it didn’t bother her. Would it be any different than the one back home? What kind of children would this tree allow them to have, if any at all? These were all thoughts for another day. Kani wanted to get the lay of the land, find a spot for herself, help Pyrrha and then probably go off to learn about this new world on her own. She wasn’t exactly keen on having family around at the moment. Her eyes landed on Lumikani again when she asked her question. “How far from the camp can we build exactly? What about water sources and food?” Those were her only worries at the moment. Build a shelter, secure food and water, and then she’d be able to get to know some of the natives.

Lumikani's dark eyes looked at Kanika as she voiced her questions, still struggling to read the young girl. She was so alike and yet different than Zayana. Being raised under the shade of Elzira meant Kanika went down a different path than her wandering sister.
"We were able to find an isle, similar to Chibale. Kiros is ours to settle, to cultivate just like Esena. Anywhere you wish to build shelter on this isle, you are welcome to..." She paused, "Most sisters have chosen to settle close to Esena, some are near the beach to protect it and a few outposts have been established on the mainland."
Maybe someday they'd have a similar set of settlements like Jauhar, but the main one was near the tree.
"Natural springs are normal here, so as long as you drink from the water mainland, you wont need to worry about the salt. We've got boats for fishing and a few creatures we can hunt...though we know not how many reside on this isle so most of the major hunting is done mainland."

Kanika contemplated her options. She didn’t plan on protecting the beach so building there was useless, Pyrrha wouldn’t want to be too close to the others either and Kani didn’t want to be too far from her either. In any case, she wouldn’t be home a lot, she planned on travelling as much as she could since she was now free and was old enough not to require the assistance of her mothers either. It was crazy to think not long ago the family had been living together and now she was going to be taking her first step into the world alone. “I’ll build near the others who are near the tree, but not inside the village. I don’t plan on spending much time here anyway. I want to travel and discover Kahikina on my own, I’ll only be back to check up on Pyrrha and make sure she’s okay.” There, she’d made her intentions known. Should she ask her mothers to watch over Pyrrha while she wasn’t around? Maybe she’d only ask Zandala. Kanika sighed heavily, she was still so angry. “Is there anything dangerous I should know about? Apart from the sisters back in Yael?”
