Quote:
The Charity Benefit (1) - A number of the local businesses in the area have come together to organise a charity benefit. In addition to a silent auction, there is also an evening charity ball. The community has been wanting to raise funds to fix up a few public areas for some time now and in the spirit of the Star Festival, these businesses have donated several prizes to the event to encourage people to attend. As one of the local residents you have been kindly invited to attend! Formal attire is encouraged but only required if you plan to attend the Ball.

Whilst Ashley had received an invite to the charity benefit that was being put on by a number of local businesses, it wasn't something that she had initially been planning to actually attend - although she had made sure to make a couple of donations to the fund to fix up some of the city's public areas.

Her surprise guest for the next month however, had led her into changing her plans for the evening, which was how Ashley had come to be dressed up in a simple, but elegant midnight blue maxi evening gown paired with a set of her butterfly heels and a simple silver clutch. She had led her curls loose too, her hair somewhat longer since her trip away and the natural blue of her hair fading into lighter blue and then silver.

She looked over and into eyes that were a slightly lighter shade of grey than her own, "You know you could have warned me that you were planning to drop in for a visit Hennie."

Ashley smiled politely as another of the benefit attendees smiled at them, before turning her attention back to her younger sister.

"I know, but it's been absolutely ages since we've seen you Ashley" Harriet said "And I was in the States anyway" she gave her older sister a puppy-eyed look as she continued "And I wanted to see what my favourite sister was up to."

"Eleanor's your favourite sister."

Harriet ignored that, "I still see her more than you - and that's with her almost always being caught up in her research." Whilst Harriet wasn't quite sure just what it was that their oldest sister did, she knew that it was science related. Although it wasn't that Eleanor hadn't told her - because she had, however her oldest sister also had a tendency to go off on tangents that were usually linked to whatever she currently working on.

Like her sister, Harriet had dressed formally, in a silver midi dress that she thought looked cute on her and a pair of dark blue heels that were no were quite as fancy as Ashley's butterfly heels - but then again, Harriet also wasn't into buying heels like her older sister was.

She glanced at the list of raffle prizes, some of the more interesting ones catching her attention "Do you know when the ball's going to start?"

It was something that she was personally looking forward to - something different to do - something fun.

Hope this works as a start Sleet, but let me know if not and I'll tweak it

Thesw sorts of events had been placeds he'd gone as a child, and a teenager, he'd grown up at charity events, balls, and other sorts of high end events. He'd never really liked such places, finding most of the females annoying and most of the other males boring or simply not his sort. Even as he'd grown out of his teens he'd gone to a few of these events with his parents, thankfully that lessened as he got older, and when he did go he'd try and bring Aiden in order to have some proper company. He liked having his partner with him, it was comfortable.

This was the first event he was going to in a long time, he'd found the use for the money earned to be worthy of his attention, and Aiden wasn't here for him. Aiden wouldn't be here with him anymore.

Ignoring someone asking if he wanted a drink he straightened his clothing and made to find a place away from most of the people here, he didn't care for socializing at most of these events.

Dressed in formal attire, as he had been invited to the ball later on, Alexandre has his hair tied back with a strip of silver silk while he otherwise wore a black suit and a dark blue silk shirt under it. He looked good, he made sure of that, but he still was working to put on that 'leave me alone' vibe as he found himself exiting a crowd of people who were trying some sort of food being walked about. While it smelled good the visuals weren't all that appealing to him. Shaking his head he almost missed the sight of the blue haired female. But he did see her and he did nod his head towards her, hoping she noticed him.

Whilst it wasn't the first time that Ashley had been to a charity event such as this one, in fact she alongside Harriet had attended their fair share back in the UK, however since moving to the States it had been something of a while since she last attended an event such as this one–

In fact Ashley was pretty such the last such event had been that fundraiser gala for the Destiny Star hospital facility which would make it a couple of years or so give or take.

She had just finished politely but firmly refusing the offer of a glass of wine from one of the circling servers, when she spotted the blond nodding his head towards her.

Ashley gave a small nod back as her lips quirked up in a smile that was slightly warmer than the other, more fake smiles, that she had been giving out so far "I'll be back in just a moment Hennie."

Whilst Harriet had also turned down the wine, she had instead opted to pluck a glass of one of the non-alcoholic alternatives from a tray offered from another of the circling servers.

She gave the server a murmured thank you, before glancing over to see what had caught her sister's attention - or perhaps, more accurately, a who.

It seemed that Ashley was planning to step over to the other on her own if the way that she had started walking over in the blond's direction was any indication, but trailed after her.

"Friend of yours?" And she was genuinely curious, because Ashley didn't really talk too much about things she was up to in the States - be it friends, her work or otherwise.

There were a lot of servers, nearly too many in his opinion, but he did grab a passing drink. it wasn't anything alcoholic, he didn't drink, but he took a sip of whatever he'd grabbed. Not bad.

Watching as Ashley made her approach he took note of someone joining her, following behind her. "A friend?" He asked raising a brow as he motioned, with a nod of his head, towards the girl behind Ashley. Already moving to hold out a hand to the following lady.

"Alexandre Evans. A pleasure." While he might not be interested in females he also knew it didn't show, it could easily be misleading, as he smiled and was polite. His smiles and way of talking to people was hard to tell...he didn't let on to preferences or anything of the sort.

Ashley nodded slightly at Harriet's question as the two of them closed the distance between them and the blond "Of sorts" she said quietly and felt a slight bit of amusement at her sister's huff at her deliberate lack of elaboration.

She waited until the last of the distance between them and the blond had been crossed to smile and say "It's been a while" before shaking her head slightly at the blond's softly spoken question, "No, my younger sister" she admitted "She's visiting the States currently."

And whilst Ashley wasn't exactly enthused about said visit and in particular the lack of notice that she'd been given about said visit, it was something that she kept to herself as Alexandre held out a hand to her sister and introduced himself.

Harriet smiled brightly and reached out to take and shake the offered hand "It's nice to meet you Alexandre" she said cheerfully. "I'm Harriet, Harriet Williams - although people quite often call me Harri or Ettie."

Well okay, family and really close friends generally called her Hennie, although Harriet wasn't about to openly admit to having such a childish nickname and was really hoping that Ashley wouldn't spill the beans either.

"Where did you and Ashley meet? Was it whilst she was studying at Sovereign Heights? Or was it later?"

Harriet pretended to ignore the look that her sister was giving her. After all maybe she'd have more luck finding out a bit more about her sister's friends straight from the source given Ashley's own general lack of talkativeness.

"Indeed, it has been awhile. You've been busy I assume? Things have been....rather boring." Taking his time on his words, speaking slowly, he was making sure to word things carefully. He wasn't going to say too much in front of the others sister. "Ahh, and she likes the city so far? I hope." And she was, of course, safe. He doubted anything unwelcome would happen to the girl...not with Ashley as a sister.

"It's a pleasure as well Harriet. We met later...at work." Yes, work. That was the best answer he could provide without lying outright...and he wasn't good at telling a lie - so he didn't. He found ways around it.

"How have you enjoyed the city so far? you've seen the sights I assume?" His attention still on the younger sister now.

Ashley nodded, her voice cooling briefly for a moment "A few things came up" she said - things such as a Negaverse mission that had necessitated leaving the city for a while - although she left that part unsaid.

She didn't elaborate, although she was pretty sure that Alexandre would pick up on the gist - well at least she was hoping that Alexandre would pick up on the jist–

Because Ashley had no plans to elaborate further - at least not here and most definitely not in front of her sister.

Her family were completely unaware of her activities as Reinerite and Ashley planned to keep it that way.

Her voice warmed as she continued "But it would be nice to catch up properly at some point."

And by 'point' she meant at a time when she didn't have a curious younger sister with her.

Harriet looked from one to the other because Ashley had mentioned something about getting a job as an accountant and Alexandre didn't strike her as being an accountant - although ultimately she had ended up not thinking too much about it - after all Alexandre could have been referring to being a client of the place where Ashley worked or something.

That and accountancy and the ins and outs of it wasn't exactly something that she personally was particularly interested in.

She smiled at the question about the sites, "Yes Ashley has been showing me around - it's different from home" adding quickly as she didn't want him to get the wrong idea "Although different in a good way."

"Ahh, I see. Things happen, don't they." He said waving a hand about casually. He knew how things went and going by the drop in her voice he had a feeling it was a Negaverse thing. He did hope it wasn't that she'd been hurt, god help whoever may have hurt her...he'd find them and leave nothing more than a bloodstain. As polite as he sounded and small and demure as he looked...he was a killer, he was just good at hiding it most of the time.

"Yes, we should catch up. It's been some time since we've spoken. Perhaps over some food." He offered easily enough. Since his partner had left him he could freely invite people over...though that was the problem, in part, for the break up. He still had to do what was right for his team, and to encourage bonding. "I'll cook. My cousin can bake." Shrugging a bit as he spoke. "Hudson does enjoy baking." Something he didn't enjoy at all, too precise on measurements. He liked to go more by taste than baking allowed.

"I'm glad she's been showing you around. I have family who have a home in England...they decided to move there for a while." And get married and have kids...and it almost made him want to pout. He wasn't there for things he wanted to be there for, though he wasn't much for moving to England for a while. "I do want to visit at some point. I've heard it's lovely there...aside from the rain I hear you get a lot of."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 05, 2020 10:59 am

"They do" Ashley agreed, although that was kind of the nature of the 'job'.

Her lips curved up in another smile, when Alexandre agreed with her suggestion that they catch up at some point "I'd like that - I have more time on my hands now" at least she did now that she was back in the city and whilst Harriet was currently visiting, it would be something to think of once the month that her sister was planning to stay was over.

And then her smile turned into an amused smirk at Alexandre's comment that England got a lot of rain - because that was kind of putting it mildly.

Harriet caught Ashley's smirk at the rain comment and laughed good naturedly as she guessed (hopefully correctly) at the reason behind it "Yes we get a lot of rain, although you kind of get used to it." Because there was really no point on delaying things on account of the rain over in the UK - not if one wanted to get anything done. "And the thing about the tea is true - but it is lovely in England - in all of the UK really."

"I'm not one for tea drinking. I prefer espresso over coffee and tea." He didn't like the other two drinks at all. He did however like his espresso mixed with pomegranate or cherry syrup, both together with his espresso was even better. But he didn't mention any of this as he talked with the two.

"Most of my friends like tea however." But some of those friends had a home in England...so he didn't need go bring them tea from England if he ever went on a visit there - they could get it themselves.

"I could get used to the rain, with time, but I would rather avoid it. It makes it hard to go out looking your best." At far as he was concerned anyway, and looks were a big thing to him - always had been. He was one who took fashion, and looking good, seriously. He tried even if it was just for himself, as he wasn't out to impress anyone at the moment.

"Maybe, before you return to England the three of us should see some of the sights. he offered with a shrug of his shoulders, greyish blue eyes turning to his Captain. "There are always interesting things going on in this city - I'm sure there is something we can find to do." More like he wanted to make sure the two were safe, at least right now. This city around holidays, and festivals, was never safe...and the city was celebrating right now. It wasn't safe.

Whilst Harriet was fond of the odd latte, she personally didn't think that espresso on its own was something that she could ever be a fan of - because espresso was sooo strong.

It didn't seem polite to comment though.

She did nod in agreement at Alexandre's comment about rain making it hard to look ones best however, the nod perhaps a little on the vigorous side as Harriet wrinkled her nose slightly and gave a heartfelt sigh "Yes rain can be such a pain - especially with curls" because whilst her curls were nowhere like on the scale of Ashley's ringlets, it didn't make them any less prone to rain frizz.

And then she nodded again at Alexandre's suggestion that the three of them could see some of the sites "I'd like that" she agreed - and yes she was kind of agreeing for both herself and for Ashley - but she hadn't wanted her sister to turn down the offer out of hand.

Whilst Ashley couldn't say that she was a fan of 'rain frizz' as Harriet had put it, she had kept quiet on the topic.

She hid a sigh as Harriet effectively agreed on both of their behalves with Alexandre's suggestion that the three of them could maybe see some of the Destiny City sites together, but she wasn't opposed to the suggestion.

"I'd like that too" she agreed, adding "Harriet is here for a month so maybe we can find a day that suits the three of us."

And a part of her was strongly hoping that things wouldn't be too interesting this year - because Destiny City had something of a reputation around holidays and events - a reputation that she really didn't want her younger sister experiencing.

Glancing about he shook his head once. "Ashley has my number, you can give me a call and we can arrange something for one of these days. Whatever you'd both like to do - I'll join you both. Just let me know. I'm afraid I've likely spent too much time here, sadly, but my elder cousin is somewhere about and I should find him." Though it was more likely his cousin would find him, having the height advantage.

"We'll talk again soon. I do hope you enjoy you're time in Destiny city. Ashley is good to have around while you explore the city." Giving said girl a look, he knew she'd understand. She was good to keep around in case this whole city festival turned dangerous, as he figured it might at some point. Destiny city had a reputation and Ashley at least had magic and a weapon - she was strong. He knew she'd keep her sister safe, or at least as safe anyone could when facing off against the cities magic. It wasn't the same as a senshi or a knight, far from it, but Ashley would still be good to have at ones side.

"Have a good night ladies and enjoy the evening." And he turned to leave, and hopefully find his cousin.

Ashley gave a short nod in answer to the look the message received, before smiling at her sister "Whilst not a Destiny City native, I've been here long enough to know most of the sites" and she also had the benefit of knowing what type of things would be of interest to Harriet.

"I hope you have a good evening as well Alexandre and we'll give you a call soon." They'd likely be catching up in one form or another anyway.

"Thank you Alexandre, have a good evening too" Harriet echoed.

The mention of time made her remember that she had yet to check out the auction, something that she wanted to do as there had been a piece on display that she was sure that their father would love and she really wanted to drop a bid on it before it was too late.

It had been nice though, meeting one of Ashley's friends - and maybe she would meet more over the course of her stay.
