Prompt - The Wishing Tree (Part Two)
The Wishing Tree (2) : Your wish is only said to come true if you grant the wish of someone else; when you write your wish, you must also take one off of the tree and do your best to grant it. What wish do you pull off, and how do you intend to ‘grant’ it? Do you work with someone else to grant this wish, or do you work alone? You may get approval from another player to use the wish their character hung up, but no names are attached so your character may not ever know who wrote it!
It had taken the better part of two days and the assistance of more than one parent in the precinct to identify what had been written on the little slip he'd taken from the tree. By the end of it there had been a slight disagreement between several of the parents in his workplace before they had come to some sort of concensus about what might have been written.
Whomever had written this particular note had been trying to explain that they had been sad about something, that bit they got, the 'sad' was easy, but it was when they had gone on to describe what had been the source of the debate. Fortunately upon the conclusion of said helpful parents Athalia had been advised that the participant had taken issue with something in a more isolated park near their home. Something had fallen down, or broken, or it had been taken away (they weren't entirely sure), but it had been a source of disappointment regardless.
This had sent him on another mission though.
With only a child-drawn sketch to go on he'd needed to intervene more than his fair share of locals across numerous areas o the city before a kindly soul had somehow recognised what the sketch might be. He hadn't caught their name, but they had the warmest smile when they comprehended what he had been holding out. Once he'd finally found out the location he had settled on visiting it on a quieter evening when he wasn't on duty.
Thus he now found himself wandering through a park that was rather off the beaten track. It was small, and was definitely one that seemed to be designed with the local residents in mind. Every now and then he would pass by a bench with a small plaque on it, a nod to the fallen and further indication that the community in this part of the city were particularly close to one another. That was both good as he knew they'd look out for each other, and bad in the sense that someone like him would cut a rather obvious figure to anyone who sought to look out their window as he passed.
He hoped that on this occasion he'd gotten away with it though.
It wasn't a busy park by any means and the longer he was in here the more he came to appreciate the silence. There was something peaceful about being here, he could have sat on one of these benches all evening and admired the stars. Perhaps he understood why the author of this wish had felt strongly enough to express their discontent and wish that someone would find a way to fix what was amiss.
Unfortunately as he continued to wander about the small garden he couldn't quite work out what was miss though. By the time he'd done a few circuits of it he had come to the conclusion that it might be more appropriate to take his leave for now and return again later with fresh eyes. Maybe he would come during the day next time, maybe it would only make sense during the day, either way his curiosity was now piqued and given his newfound appreciation for this spot it felt right to spend the time to work this little puzzle out.
He turned on his heel for now and began to make his way out of the park and towards the darker and alleys that would otherwise mask his existence from others.
He'd get to the bottom of this mystery, it just wouldn't be solved tonight.
