Aelyn does not have time for your crap. A deeply empathetic soul with a strong moral compass and unwavering sense of right and wrong, she will not hesitate to call out perceived injustice or bluntly state her strongly-formed opinions. The word "tact" is sorely missing from her vocabulary. She will gladly butt heads with anyone who chooses to rile her, and rather than picking her battles, Aelyn will enthusiastically engage in every argument or point of contention that comes her way. That's not to say she enjoys being difficult for the sake of it. Rather, she is quick to spot inequity and cruelty and simply will not stand idly by when she has the ability to address it, whether it be through words or decisive action. Aelyn's existence is one of embracing causes, and her support for things she finds worthy of attention is both vocal and no-holds-barred, even if her attention span may not be exceptionally enduring. She is both devoted and fearsome in her defense of her kindred spirits and loves nothing more than to embrace the underdog in any given situation.

History:

Kavensei Family

Family life
Aelyn is the eighth-born daughter of the Kavensei family and only daughter of patriarch Vulir's second mistress, Kuloma. Born into a hotbed of family politics, Aelyn was taught from a young age to beware the insidious forces behind personal gain - while also being encouraged to participate through sheer virtue of the fact that she had been named after Vulir's heir.

Those two opposing forces molded her into a child who was hyper-aware (and perhaps more than a little paranoid) of the manipulation and attempts to control that came from Vulir's wife, Merle. Originally scared and intimidated by the woman, Aelyn eventually grew to harbor no small amount of disdain for Merle, resenting the woman's poor treatment along with the constant reminders of illegitimacy that came from her.

That disdain blossomed into pointed antagonism as the chip on Aelyn's shoulder grew, until she began to make clear that she had no interest in becoming one of Merle's political pawns by actively acting against all the standards of behavior to which Kavensei women are held. She began to spend her time with lowborn urchins and picking fights in the streets whenever someone taunted her for being an illegitimate child. More often than not, she came home bruised and bloodied, clothes torn, having put a beating on someone for looking at her the wrong way. The more Merle tried to punish her for the behavior, the more she leaned into it.

Relationships
Aelyn loves her father and feels both protective of her mother and enraged by any poor treatment directed Kuloma's way by Merle or any of her snottier siblings. She has a special relationship with Kuloma, whom Aelyn loves and wishes to help and protect above anyone else in her life. They are incredibly close as mother and daughter, though they do not always agree when it comes to how best to handle family dynamics.

Because she has no interest in keeping the peace, Aelyn also has little patience for the siblings who show her open disdain. She rarely hesitates to chide Fajra and Antin, who dislike her for being illegitimate. Meanwhile, she looks up to her namesake, Acyn, and enjoys buddying up with Viltre and getting a peak into the shadier side of the family business. Niiemh is a confidant for when Aelyn feels angry or upset, while Terrwyn provides a welcome sense of calm.

She adores any sibling who doesn't show any overt hostility, but has a zero-tolerance policy for those that do.

Family side-effects
As much as Aelyn is strong and undaunted, the wild politics within her family dynamics leaves her with insecurities about her identity and value. She feels loyal to the members of the family who treat her well, but has little love for the idea of the Kavensei clan as a whole. She often feels torn between her love for certain individuals and her disdain for the family unit. And as much as she tries to hide it, the open hostility between herself and Merle leaves chinks in her emotional armor with every new encounter.

The inequality and bitterness that can exist within her family weigh so heavily on her that she is particularly perceptive to injustice and slights against others. She feels strongly for the underdogs in most instances, and rarely hesitates to stand up for them, if only because that's exactly what she wished she had as a child.
