Ikaika 1
Ikaika's boat landed on the shore of Matori. He had made it woo! It was so beautiful here and the people so incredibly strange compared to him but something seemed to click in him like this was the place he was supposed to be.
"Home." He said with wonder. He nommed some of the food he had brought with him from home. He bet the flavor would be different here but maybe he could order the proper plants to be brought over on the ships.
He noticed a youngling like himself playing in the sand her Dad was sunbathing not too far away. They didn't look all that different from his own people cept for the lack of tentacles on the face or those weird crystal things.
The youngling looked nice though so he approached.
"Hi there can you tell me if there is a place I can camp?"

Skeena looked up from her sad but beautiful sand castle complete with shells, her dad was a saint and let her join him on these beach excursions away from her brothers. Some peace time with Dad while Mom got the boys was the best.
"Oh, Hi." She said peering at the boy in front of her.
"Are you from Zena?" She had heard that people from far away looked very different from her and her family and he was the spitting image of different.
She patted the sand, he looked cool. "You can play with me if you want."

"No I am not from Zena I'm Menehune my name is Ikaika. I have never heard of Zena but I am glad to be here, is this really Tendaji?"
It made sense that somewhere so far away would look so very strange, "Do you have any swamps, bogs or fens? They are kind of my thing really." If he could find that then he could quickly start his own house and be off to selling supplies in a jiffy then he would not be without employment. He loved planning ahead, plans were the best.

"Oh you are from Kahikina, Daddy told me about that place that is so cool, what is it like there?" She was fascinated, maybe when they were older he would take her there to see it. So cool.
She was glad his boat had landed so close. It sure was a more interesting day and her brothers were not here to hog her new friend, which was the best.
"We have those yes, in the delta areas are usually where you will find the swamp and brackish water, we have clear streams above that, we are a very coastal town though."
"There are many Inn's, anything with weed in the name stay out, its not a good place.

"Thank you," he said sincerely, he just wanted to get to his room and tuck himself in for a much needed nap, it was quite the adventure coming all the way out here after his last adventure in the deep. So far this was going better though, he was not lost yet.
Nothing with weed in the name he would keep that in mind.
"If you were to stay in one which would you pick?"

"Hmm." She paused to think about it for a moment.
"I have always wanted to stay at the Dancing Seahorse, they have such awesome decor, nets and sea stars. Apparently the rooms are decorated similarly and you get your own Menk in a tank, they come from Jauhar i think. So pretty."
He looked awfully tired.
"You should go settle in and rest, I'll see you sometime later okay?"

"Thank you, I think I need it, it was a long voyage and it was hard to sleep with all the new noises. A nice quiet room is what I desperately need."
He walked off and found the place she had recommended. He was so tired. He was asleep before his head hit the bedding.
When he awoke he went outside again to find the same girl. Now she was gutting fish at the shore with her Dad unloading a net nearby.
"Hey, thank you for your suggestion, its a really nice place, they do have fish in the rooms, I named mine Bubbles."

Her eyes lit up at his words and she paused in her work. "Thats so cool! I want a menk so bad but Dad says I'm not quite old enough."
Water creatures fascinated her. Maybe it was because she had been born here but she felt a strong connection with the land and sea.
Ikaika looked disheveled still but not as tired as he had been. "You look better," she washed her hands.
"Come I will take you to the good food place, its mine and Daddy's favorite."

He really had been fortunate to meet her right of the bat, she was his agemate and she was kind and willing to be his guide so far. He wanted to keep her as a friend.
"You know I don't have any friends here, I was wondering if it would be okay if I could call you a friend?"
He figeted slightly, he didn't have many friends but friends seemed nice. Maybe they could exchange letters.

"All I have are two brothers I cannot escape from, I would be delighted to have you as a friend Ikaika, maybe when we grow up we can adventure together?"
He would be a great asset if he could catch fish like he looked like he could. She liked fishing, it was peaceful and fun. It was a family thing, though no one had chosen it as a profession. Her mother resented getting out of bed even at the time she did to tend the animals.
"Do you have family Ikaika?"

He blushed and then bowed his head in sorrow.
"No I don't, not anymore. I am alone." He did not like it but could do nothing about the past so he preferred not to dwell on it. He had his whole life to look forward to after all. Memories were mostly pain after all. He hid it well.
Ikaika shook hands with her.
"So, this food, how far away is it exactly, I am so hungry."

She laughed at his expression.
"Don't worry my hungry friend, it is close by. Soon we will be able to smell it, come with me."
She took his arm and dragged him toward a shop that had the most scintillating seafood aroma. Oh he would like it here.
Skeena talked to the chef and ordered for them both. She was very mature for her age as the girl had to be with two brothers, she also was not above using her fathers fondness for her to get special treats occasionally.

Skeena had deposited a rice and fish treat into his hand. Raw salmon over formed sweet rice to be exact. So simple, no cooking and it smelled so fresh!
"How is this acheived? Is it okay to eat raw?"
He sniffed slightly suspicious but mostly he didn't want to eat the piece of art. But curiousity did get the best of him eventually and he took a small bite,
"Mmm!" It was so good!

"If you like that you will really like this."
She held two plates of the same dish.
"This is sweet eel over rice. Oh wait until you taste it! It is something special! Its also my favorite."
She bit into hers and let the sweetness roll over her tongue with the seared caramel flavour of high heat cooking. Yum!
"This is Dad's favorite place because they make a bbq catfish. He loves catffish."
She handed him his plate.

Well at least he knew now that he would not starve here at least, even if he had to offer his services to the restaurant as a prepper or dishwasher he was okay with that. Good food was life and he was majorly driven by his stomach.
He took his portion of eel with mild trepidation, he had never tried eel, they swam wrong and it creeped him out. Even a fish should not look that greasy in water.
He poked it at first but after looking at Skeena's blissed out face he decided to try it.
He was not disapointed it was the most unique thing he had ever tasted.
