Magic and War

Solo Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750

Prompt
The earthlings were welcoming and open to the ways of Kahikina, willing to trade knowledge for knowledge. In the initial years of relationship development, the people of Kahikina learned about battle and magic. When before a rare few could cast spells, now anyone could learn if taught properly.

Healers, casters, fighters and warriors. All of these new jobs were novel for the trade-based Kahikinans. What an expansion to a world they never knew!

This solo-only prompt is for you to explore how your character deals with the new classes and magic of Tendaji. Do they embrace it? Shun it? Are they interested enough to take on a new class compared to before?

Another lazy afternoon. One would think that it should be relaxing to enjoy the time alone but Pounamu found her mind swamped with worries instead. The arrival of the earthlings had shaken up the local population and Pounamu was not unaffected. Like everyone else she was full of questions and concerns about the strange people who could not breathe water and lived on land. Naia, however, seemed eager to just jump onto land and move in with them.

Pounamu loved spending time with her friend but she could not help worrying about Naia’s desire to explore the earthling lands. The little hybrid had sat before her work desk, her area cluttered with materials for crafting, and her lips pursed into a slight pout. How could she express her fears to Naia without her considering the thoughts boring? Pounamu sighed as she leaned forward and plopped her head against her desk. It simply was too much. Before she had enjoyed the talk of exploring for treasure and even trying to find her parents with Naia but now they were getting older and the talks were still there. Her friend was determined to explore and the appearance of the earthlings solidified her desire to become stronger. Oh Naia….why. Pounamu’s bi-colored eyes fluttered shut as she thought about the whole situation. The earthlings had appeared and changed their whole world. While Pounamu was content just crafting and spending her days peacefully her friend had become excited at the thought of learning how to fight. They could learn magic and fight against any dangers in the deep seas! That meant that they could explore soon. The words echoed in Pounamu’s head and she couldn’t help stressing over them.

Even with Naia by her side she still was afraid.

The thought made her feel ashamed. How was she the daughter of two extremely outgoing adventurers who laughed in the face of danger? What was she missing from her spirit that had filled theirs with such passion for the unknown? Her parents would have definitely jumped at the opportunity to explore new lands like her friend Naia was. So why did Pounamu feel like such a scared tadpole? At this rate she would never leave her Aunt’s house! It was so much easier to hide away than learn more about the earthlings. Yet another sigh left Pounamu’s lips. Was she really content living like this?

“I suppose not.” The girl mused out loud to herself as she slowly shifted so that she was sitting once more and not laying against her desk in exasperation. Why was she so hesitant then? It was not like she enjoyed hiding in the shadows. Befriending Naia had taught her to embrace the light again and she had even learned to let go of her childish habits. She no longer feared being forgotten nor did she fear that she would forget others. So why not go and explore the new lands and learn from the earthlings?

Change was still scary. Even if Pounamu reasoned that she wanted to change it did not make it an easy decision. Could she do it? Would she do it? She could do it. It would just take some courage. Pounamu smiled faintly at the thought. Maybe she would not learn to fight like her friend but study something different. Healing seemed tempting. Pounamu had witnessed a healer from Tendaji take care of an injured Hapuna the other day. The Hapuna had gotten cut by something sharp in the ocean and had laid along the shore, their crimson blood decorating the sands. Strangely enough the earthling did not seem too concerned as they spoke with the Hapuna and as the crowd watched magic flowed from the earthling into the wound. The skin pulled back together and after some bandages were applied it was almost like the girl had never been injured in the first place. Pounamu had watched with interest and now as she reflected on the incident she wondered if perhaps this was the path for her.

She could ask for their aid in learning so that she could patch up Naia if she ever got into trouble. The thought caused the girl to smile before she pushed away from her desk. She could do this. She would go swimming to the shore and try to catch the earthling once more and ask for her help! Pounamu grinned happily as she pushed through her fear of the newcomers to instead try and embrace the change to learn their ways instead. She simply had to believe in herself and in her desire to help her friend. Everything would work out for the best. Pounamu was certain of it!
