The few times that Padma drifted awake from a comfortable sleep, the tapping of rain outside the hollowed den had quickly lulled her back to sleep. She didn't know how long the pair of them rested... it could have been only a few hours, or almost a day for all she knew. But finally, it wasn't the stop of the rain that woke her but the slightest glow of weak sunlight that illuminated the dark, prying past her heavy eyelids and stabbing into her throbbing head.
Padma woke blearily to a heavy arm around her middle, and the warmth of breath against her neck that was ridiculously comfortable. She hummed softly, then rolled onto her back, reaching to gently brush the back of her hand against Uzumati's forehead. No fever... thankfully, if he was to suffer any sort of sickness, it hadn't settled into him yet.
Carefully, Padma crawled free of the furs and to the edge of the tree, peering outside. Their things were still there - her bag tucked safely away, while Uzumati's clothes were still feet away where he had thrown them the night before. The hill was blessedly free of creatures; and, just outside the copse of the tree, the air was still chilled with the storm, and not yet returned to the normal dry heat of Tale.
From what she could tell, the river that the pair of them had both been unable to cross was still swollen and too powerful to dare fjord... but at least the sun was out, and the sound of creatuers in the canopies reassured her that the world HADN'T ended as she'd started to fear.
Retreating back inside, Padma gazed around the small den, finally able to see how ... homely it was. And... there, watching Uzumati's sleeping face, she remembered him... speaking? Last night?
But ... that couldn't be right. He'd never spoken, not once - but... it had to be possible. He had proven time and time again that he knew the language, thanks to listening to her and responding appropriately. But...
He'd called her 'flower.' Padma squeezed her hands to her flushing cheeks and shook herself, glancing away from his sleeping face. There was no way...
Instead, after she'd calmed herself down, Padma shifted closer and gently touched his shoulder, giving him a little shake. "Hello? The storm has stopped - are you ready to wake up?"

Uzumati was groggy. The memories of last night floated through his mind as if a dream and the young man wasn't exactly certain of what reality was in the moment. His head throbbed, his whole body ached honestly and he felt a lot of pain in his arm. Perhaps the dream was not quite so unrealistic after all. Squeezing his eyes against the sudden movement, Uzumati let out a soft groan before rolling to try and burrow under the piles of fur. He was too tired to figure this out. Couldn't he just sleep some more and wait while his body processed the damages he had taken last night? The flower had patched him up well....the flower?! Uzumati's emerald gaze shot open as he slowly started to recall all of last night's events. The storm, the witu and the lovely young woman who had helped him to chase away the predator from his territory...
She was still here? Uzumati bolted from the furs, almost forgetting his injuries until the sudden sharp pain made him wince once more. As he gripped at his injured arm the young man glanced towards his companion. His gaze was curious, a flush decorating his cheeks as he realized she was the one who had tried to wake him up moments ago. Was she okay? Uzumati frowned as he scooted forward to inspect her. Had she gotten injured last night during the attack? He didn't see any obvious wounds at first glance. A sigh of relief left his lips as he sat back and smiled faintly at the flower. He was glad that she was alright.
Was the storm over? Uzumati's gaze shifted from Padma as he tried to get a good glance outside. The man's head tilted thoughtfully as he sniffed the air. It was damp but he didn't hear anymore rain hitting the ground. It looked like the worst was over. Uzumati felt his shoulders relaxing before he glanced back towards the flower thoughtfully. What did they do now? Did she have a place to go? Surely she did...as sad as the thought made him.

While he slept he looked so peaceful, but then he was awake and immediately Padma felt a flood of guilt for waking him. It was clear through his movements and expressions that he was still very worn down and tired, and no doubt hurting from the night before, if his wince and grip on his arm was to be understood correctly. She grimaced in sympathy and held up a hand, intent on shooing him back to lay down... but the motion caught his attention, and instead he was moving closer to her, pretty green eyes wide and searching in ... concern? Confusion? Did he remember that he had invited her here the night before?
Then... he smiled, and there was a weird thud in her chest, a lump in her throat she swallowed around, and a heat in her cheeks that left her a bit lightheaded. She had seem him fierce and feral and hurting the night before ... and, the first time they met, suspicious and careful. But a smile? And... in the light of the sun, despite how worn down he looked, he was... well. A handsome man, that was clear.
... A handsome man that, moments later, canted his head and sniffed at the air like a beast (or someone smelling something roasting over a fire, which very much was not happening here--), and while the image didn't shatter it did... wrinkle, just the smallest bit. Right - he was a man who had grown up, it seemed, in the wilderness. Had he really spoken to her the night before?
"You must still be so tired and sore." Padma conceded, in a rush, her voice a bit breathless at her own distracted thoughts. "Ah... I could... perhaps I could go out and see if there is anything I could find us to eat? Or water... I'm sure that will not be hard to find." She laughed, a bit nervously, but honestly, gazing at him intently.

Uzumati’s cheeks flushed slightly as he listened to the flower speaking. Somehow her voice was very soothing to his ears, the sound a welcome melody to the man who had grown accustomed to the noises of the forest. Certainly he had conversed or rather listened to other earthlings before but those instances were still rare and even then Uzumati was biased towards the voice of the leaf earthling currently before him. It was hard to not get distracted by how pretty and sweet her voice sounded. Uzumati had to pull himself together and focus on paying attention to her words so that he could grasp what she was saying.
Who knew focusing was so hard, especially when you were so close to the other person?
Her lips were moving and they looked so soft. He could just reach out and touch them with his fingers to see if they felt as silky as an actual flower petal. The thought burned the back of his neck, his cheeks still flushed as he finally focused again and registered that she was laughing. It was a surprising action but one that made his own lips curl upwards before he let out a quiet chuckle of his own. It was almost a guttural sound and one that he rarely made. He had caught the jist of her humor because there was definitely plenty of water to go around after last night’s storm. But he did not like the idea of letting her roam alone to get food. As his laughter died on his lips, Uzumati tapped his mouth to indicate food before carefully slipping past Padma.
The space was tight so his skin did brush lightly across her own, the heat of his body evident as he paused for the slightest of moments before finally escaping into the open space. Uzumati studied his arm now that he was out in the sunlight. The bandages were wrapped nicely around his arm and despite the faint pain that was thrumming through his body he knew that he had endured worse. He would just have to move carefully to avoid aggravating the injury further. The ground was soggy beneath their feet, each step making a slight sloshy sound as he moved about. His gaze was narrowed, focused on thinking about what they could do for food. Thankfully the storm had battered enough of the taller tree limbs to knock down some of the smaller fruits, some looking remarkably untouched while others were only slightly bruised due to their firm skins, but even Uzumati considered that to be merely a snack to tide them over. Still, it was better than nothing so Uzumati slowly bent down to scoop up several in his hands before bringing them shyly over towards his companion.

Completely unaware of Uzumati's distraction, too enraptured by his sudden blush and laugh. Did he color so cutely anytime he laughed? If so, she very suddenly wished she had her sister's sense of humor - maybe she could make him laugh more? She tilted her head when he made his gesture though, briefly confused - but then he was moving, and Padma grimaced at the body heat rolling off of him. Was he feverish? She worried, and thus she crawled out of the tree after him, pausing to pick at the pile of clothes that he'd deposited safely the night before. They were still soaking wet...
Normally, she'd be horrified to wander around in her smallclothes, but - she had little choice, and Uzumati was doing so as well, so it would have to be acceptable. While she was doing so, Uzumati inspected the surrounding area... and it wasn't until he returned to her side that she noticed what he'd brought.
Immediately her gaze softened, and she reached to take a few - leaving plenty for him to have. "Thank you." She said, honestly, gazing into his eyes as she smiled. "If you want to sit, I can gather more? You're still injured, you know--" The tone she adopted was like her father's with a patient, sternly advising - but out of her soft tones it seemed more like a teacher wagging her finger with lighthearted amusement. This said, she shifted the fruit to the crook of one arm and reached to take his uninjured arm in the other, guiding him back to the entrance of his tree.
Once there, she slid her hand up to his shoulder and pat and tugged at it until he was ushered to lean down to meet her level - and once there, she pushed the fringe of his hair back and kissed his forehead.
... Hmm. Maybe a little hot, but he didn't feel like he was burning with fever either... "Please, let me know if it hurts too badly. I think I have some medicine you could chew, but it would make you sleepy..."

Uzumati pursed his lips in protest and was nearly about to flex to prove to the flower that he was perfectly fine until she touched his arm. Whenever the flower touched him it was like he became a pup and was just ready to do whatever she needed. His innocent adoration lit up in his gaze as he simply followed her and sat down at the entrance of the tree. Fine he would sit here if she insisted. But only because of that and not because his arm was hurting that badly! Uzumati huffed silently to himself as he settled and just watched the flower. What was she planning to do now?
Surprise widened his emerald gaze and a deep flush darkened his cheeks at the sudden kiss. Why would she do such a thing? Not that he minded but he was definitely confused. The knot in his stomach tightened again and Uzumati had to resist the urge to take the leaf woman into his arms. "Mmm." He found himself nodding in agreement at her instructions as his face lingered in front of hers. She was doing a lot for him and he thought of a vague childhood memory where his father had always seemed to express his thanks towards his mother. Shouldn't he do the same? She had helped him with the witu last night and now was even taking care of his wounds...the thought made Uzumati's gaze soften before he leaned forward and placed a light kiss against her lips. Afterwards he smiled towards the flower almost shyly. That was how you expressed thanks, right? A small peck on the lips for some reason or even on the cheek. Should he have done the cheek instead? Biting the inside of his own cheek, Uzumati pulled back sheepishly as he waited for the flower's reaction to his thanks.

Yes, well - Padma was surprised he'd listened as well, but she was delighted when he sat, rewarding him with a bright smile and satisfied nod. Of course... his answer itself was far from reassuring. He seemed to understand that she was offering him pain relief, but when he failed to indicate whether or not he'd like some she could only pout as she was forced to concede that he felt he was fine without it. She... couldn't imagine being bit by such a creature and not immediately wanting relief - those teeth were so sharp, and his wound had seemed so painful before--
Ahhh!! He'd talked last night, hadn't he? If only he'd answer her now, with words - to at least tell her if he was feeling alright, or even--
Before she could fret much more, however - Uzumati's face was moving closer, and the next thing she knew he was kissing her. .... Or- okay, more of a peck, but-- it was still enough to make her gasp in surprise, her hand flying to her mouth - which, inadvertently, meant she dropped the fruit she'd been cradling in the crook of her arm. She squeaked as they threatened to roll away, but she hurriedly stooped to rescue them - and only when they were recovered did she look at him again, her cheeks bright red, biting her lip. "O-oh! Spirits, um-- I... thank you? That-- that's... very nice. Er-- s-so, you feel fine then?" She babbled, her voice a bit higher pitched than before, and at his expectant look she laughed nervously and slowly settled to sit beside him, dropping her eyes to the fruit, which she turned over in her hands to distract herself.
"What a delicious fruit! Thank you!" The final word was more of a squeak, and she turned away from him to take a bite of it, a hand resting against her flaming cheek.
He'd kissed her! What - what was that?! Why?! Did he know what it was? He must, because that sweet little smile after was just so... so...! Hopeful? Was that the right word? Nervous, definitely.

Perhaps that wasn't the correct way to do things? Uzumati sank on his haunches, his expression almost akin to a disappointed puppy as he watched the flower darting about to retrieve the dropped fruits. When she settled next to him, he felt a bit of relief despite his confusion. If she was truly upset would she even bother staying near him? Wouldn't she have left or lashed out at him? Uzumati frowned, his lips pursed thoughtfully before her words registered. "Mmm." He managed almost shyly before glancing away to study the nearby trees. If her cheeks were flamed then so was his and he hoped that they both hadn't caught something.
Uzumati raised a thoughtful hand to his cheek before finally peeking back towards Padma. He slowly brought his free hand to her cheek and traced a finger before pressing his palm lightly against the smooth surface. His gaze softened with concern as he tried to compare their temperatures, one hand on his cheek and the other against her cheek. He definitely was no healer by far but it did seem like they were both burning with some sort of fever. The concern was enough to make him finally attempt one word that he knew for certain. "Sick?" His voice was deep, slightly guttural from lack of true use. Yet, it was still a voice and one that was also full of worry that matched the concern in his emerald eyes.

Ah! Unable to keep her eyes away, Padma took a sidelong glance at the man - only to see him looking utterly dejected. Her heart tugged, and she looked away once more, taking another bite of the fruit as she pondered how to salvage the situation. It was... becoming clear that the man had been out here in the wild ever since she'd met him the first time. The den he'd taken her into was... animal-like, if not clever, and even now he'd only spoken in what she had to assume were her dreams. Not for the first time, she wondered if he could understand her.
But then, how had he survived--
As she was thinking hard, Padma blinked when a cool, but life-roughened hand touched her cheek. At first, just like with the kiss, Padma was startled and wide-eyed, but... then he spoke, and this time she couldn't claim to have imagined it. Oh spirits, he thought they were sick--
Padma laughed, softly, and reassuringly reached to put her hand over the one against her cheek, her own soft-green eyes gentle and patient. "So you can speak. I thought I was going crazy-" She laughed again, then scooted just a bit closer, peering at him intently, his sweet and worried question nearly forgotten in her excitement to SPEAK with him. "Do you understand what I'm saying? I-- oh! No-- no, I don't think we're sick, we're just..." Well, she knew why SHE was blushing, but she couldn't imagine why he was unless he understood the meaning of a kiss better than she was giving him credit for. "Well - I wouldn't be surprised if you had a fever, considering everything that's happened to you, but I'm okay. I'm... you're-- well. You kissed me so I ..."
This was a mess. What would Ujana say if she saw Padma falling all over herself with this man she'd found in the woods? "Do you... still live out here? You never went back to a village? I... would you let me take you back, just until your injury feels better?" She asked, hopefully, her gaze dropping to the bite.

Uzumati almost flinched when her hand rested over his own but once he realized that she wasn't ripping his hand away the man relaxed. A slight flush decorated his cheeks as he listened to her words and gave a short nod. How could he express that he didn't speak well but had learned a bit more over the years since they last saw each other? Then there was a flurry of words and he found himself listening intently with the slightest frown crossing his features as she spoke. "Not sick." He managed quietly as he struggled to completely understand what was going on. Had he made her upset with the kiss instead? Shame decorated his expression as he looked away and shook his head. He was fine, he had healed after worst injuries!
Uzumati pursed his lips after she asked about the village. His uncle had gotten him to go there once or twice but it was so uncomfortable. "Lots...people." His nose scrunched up at the thought and he shook his head once more with a huff before scooting back. Did she really want to take him to the village? The last time he had gone....well it hadn't gone too well and there may have been a bit of a fight. Just the thought of it made him frown even more and Uzumati found himself turning away in silent protest. If he looked at her and those gentle green eyes that made his heart feel funny then he would probably cave and just do whatever she wanted and so he had to look away!
Still, just thinking about what she wanted made him glance down towards his injury with a huff. Why hadn't he just fought better against the witu? He had almost lost his territory if not for the flower...the thought made him feel flustered. Uzumati was both thankful to her and upset at himself for being too weak to hold his own. If she kept taking care of him now then what did that mean for him? Wasn't that like accepting that he had been weaker? How could he get stronger if he let the wound get the best of him and chase him from his forest?

Oh... she seemed to have upset him. And, sadly, because she had just been babbling on and on, she had no clue what exactly had set him off so badly! He had such an earnest, sweet and open expression before, and yet now he looked to have closed down completely. Thankfully, he spoke briefly about people, and that at least narrowed down what had upset him so much. He didn't like the village, clearly. The very suggestion to take him had made him pull away from her completely, turning away from her.
Padma felt surprisingly crushed by that silent rejection. She would never dream that she had enough sway over him to make him come with her, so... she didn't press. Instead, she leaned back a little, watching him with concern.
"Well..." She started, softly. But... then she shook her head and puffed up, decided. "Then I will have to stay where I can keep an eye on you! It... has been a long time since I've made camp outside a settlement but..." She shook herself, and stood, crossing to the little copse where Uzumati had stashed their wet clothes. She pulled them out, grimacing at the foul stink of blood that still stuck to it. First things first - she'd need to wash them and set them to properly dry.

Uzumati braced himself. Surely she would come around and try to convince him to go with her and then he would have no choice but to follow her. The realization made him chew on his bottom lip nervously. What if he caused trouble for her in the village? What if he wasn't welcomed since that bad fight? Uzumati swallowed nervously before her words started to register. They weren't going to the village? She was staying here?! Surprise made him turn quickly, the swift movement aggravating his wound and causing him to wince in surprise against the sudden pain. Still, Uzumati would not be deterred by pain as he quickly strode back towards Padma.
Stopping in front of her the wild man frowned with confusion and tilted his head as he studied her. But why would she go through so much for him? He touched his chest and pointed towards the ground and then reached out to slowly and carefully touch her shoulder before pointing towards the den. Did she want to stay there? Or better yet what if she had a home to return to? Last time she had left....well he hadn't seen her for a long time and the feelings twisting in his gut made him greedy to keep her around longer. Would she really stay here though? Wasn't it dangerous for her? Though he could keep her safe, right? Uzumati let out a huff in frustration at the rising questions. It was much simpler to just worry about himself day after day but now with the flower here his mind was all abuzz! But at the same time....he didn't find it quite so annoying whenever he found himself looking at her.
A strange warmth fluttered in his belly again before he started reaching out a hand for the clothing but then paused once more. He wasn't the best for cleanliness but even Uzumati recognized that the blood was a problem. If anything it could attract more witu or worse. They would at least need to rinse the blood from everything and let it dry before night. The stream was surely still swollen from last nights rains but he knew of a smaller pool that should have cleaner water, Uzumati still wasn't certain of what caused it to sparkle so but the waters seemed much more blue and came from beneath the ground somehow. Obviously using words would have been more helpful but Uzumati still wasn't completely comfortable with speaking. However, a thought did strike him and after he sniffed toward the clothing once more the man darted back towards the small den. Someone a long time ago had given him a gift after chastising him for never taking a bath and afterwards he had made certain to steal some from the village the last time he had dared to venture inside. It was the prize that he held out towards Padma now, a square piece of rough amber soap that smelled vaguely of spices and smoke.

[7/10] The sound of footsteps told Padma that he had scrambled to stand and followed her, but rather than turning to look she had every intention of continuing towards the overflowing river. Instead - he moved past her, blocking her way, peering at her like she'd confused him. And honestly, even she didn't know why she was doing this! She wanted to take him to the village, but- she also didn't want to push him until he ran off and disappeared into the forest. He didn't want to go, so - she wouldn't push it.
Still, she didn't like the idea of the witu prowling around still, and she wished she knew more about constructing the tree houses she was used to living in so they could, at least, get off the ground...
He had seemingly given up on using words... and, remembering his faltering tone from before, it was possible he just didn't *know how to phrase what he wanted to say. Her heart ached for him, so she tried to decipher what he was trying to stay.
Did he... want to sleep out here, and have her stay in his den? Ridiculous! "Oh-- no! I ... I wouldn't make you give up your home! I can try and... make one, like the one I used to live in. And-- and I could always take trips to the village for things. There's got to be plenty here I can gather and trade-" Er-- she was getting ahead of herself. She was still half naked and filthy, and she doubted she would have a good reception stumbling out of the wilds like this.
As she spoke, the man seemed distracted by the clothes, apparently coming to the same conclusions she had moments before. Before she knew what was happening, he'd strode off back towards his little den, returning after a moment with...
Padma gasped, delighted, and reached for the soap with a broad smile that felt goofy, even to her. "You have soap! That will make this so much easier-- and- and you should wash too! Oh... but the river will be a bit too strong for all that..." She bit her lip and glanced towards where, even now, she could hear it roaring, then peeked at him with a hopeful little grin. "I don't suppose you know where the river would be calmest? I think we should wash off and I can get to work on these clothes."

Uzumati listened to the flower thoughtfully and had reflected on her words while on his hunt for soap. His lips pressed into a thin line of protest at her refusing his offer because he didn't like the idea of her sleeping outside either. Wouldn't the village be more of the place for her? But the thought of the village and his recent loss made his stomach tighten into knots. He had lived there for almost a year before losing everything again and the village was his reminder of it. He probably could have gone feral again if not for....well her. Uzumati's gaze softened as he watched her reaction to the soap. At least she seemed happy with that find though he let out a small huff at the idea of a bath.
"Mmm." Uzumati let out a grunt of agreement before gesturing for the flower to follow after him. He did not lead them towards the river as expected but rather towards the north where the forest seemingly grew denser before slowly opening up into yet another small clearing. The forest divided into two levels here with an upper level of trees staring down at them, their twisting roots dangling over the edge in part while the rest dug deeply into the ground above them. The sound of trickling water could be heard as a small stream came from above them, the tiniest of waterfalls splashing into a large pool that was crystal clear. He had tried tracking the mysterious stream before but it simply seemed to appear from nowhere on the upper level, almost as if it was being fed from below the surface. It was almost a tranquil scene until Uzumati's presence caused a group of poscutas to scatter in multiple directions from larger clusters of the crystallized grass and further into the forest. Uzumati simply huffed at the smaller creatures and turned to glance towards Padma with a thoughtful expression, almost hesitant as he awaited her reaction. Even though the rains had deepened the waters it still should only come up to just above their waist, maybe a little bit more in the center where the waters were deepest. Other than that it was clear with little fish darting here and there with smooth white rocks and other various pebbles at the bottom of the pool. Was this a good place for cleaning and a bath?

[8/10] Padma quickly scooped up their dirty, bloodied clothes and padded after him, smiling sweetly anytime he paused to look back at her. She was surprised when they passed the river by, fearing for a moment that perhaps he had misunderstood her... but after a short time, they broke from the treeline and into what seemed like... paradise. It was a small, private little oasis - the roots, the small waterfall, all of it gave it a sort of otherwordly quality - like something unwitnessed by the eyes of most people. She gasped softly, her hand reaching to take hold of Uzumati's uninjured arm as she looked, captivated by the reflections of the water.
After the storm from before, and the horrible fight, this felt... calm. Peaceful, even. "Oh... this is-- this is so lovely." She said, squeezing his arm... then she stepped closer and squatted down, setting the bundle of clothes beside her as she hovered her hand over the water's surface.
The water was cool - very cool, when she dipped a finger into it, and the fish were skittish enough (likely from poscuta or other animals trying to snatch them up out as dinner) to flit away from her. It seemed like a shame to sully the water - but then she realized that, despite the waterfall steadily trickling into it, the water didn't seem to overflow - especially with the flooding, it was likely either being slurped away by the thirsty ground, or had some other underground river it continued along.
"This will be just perfect!" She finally agreed, flashing Uzumati a dazzling, and honestly RELIEVED smile as she reached for the bloodied clothes and unfurled them, dipping the first into the water, along with the soap he'd kindly given her. "I'm... honestly so relieved... if I tried to wash in that river I'd probably be swept away...!" She giggled, nervously, to herself.
