Cursed was at ease grazing in the part of the forest where she felt most at home. Having come to the forest a few weeks prior, she had felt comfortable with having no one around. She knew predators and other creatures called the Forest their home but luckily for her, she had this lonely field to herself. Every day, she would come towards this field, her field and graze with no worries at all. Today felt like any other day in the forest. She had awoken from a deep slumber, from a small place she had found to lay where the brushes and the trees had made a semi cave with their leaves. No one had bothered her about her sleeping quarters so she figured it now belonged to her.
Now grazing, she held her head close to the ground, moving ever so slightly to different areas when she had munched almost down to the root. She had to be careful not to eat too much since this field was only so big and it had worked out for the most part. Deciding she had had her fill with grass, she trotted over to a tree where she had taken her afternoon nap these last few weeks.
The tree was just perfectly placed were, around this time of day, the sunlight was able to pierce through the limbs and warm her golden tan body.
It was a good day to be a pony. Grass. Sunlight. Peace. She was enjoying her life here in the forest.

Fool's Gold was having less of a nice day than Cursed Gold was. A few days prior he'd been rained out of his previous home, the ground too wet and loose to settle in properly. So off he went, trudging further into the woods that he'd been calling home for the past few months. Fool's Gold was fairly nomadic, roaming wherever he pleased, trying not to stay in one place for too long. The forest offered protection and plentiful food, though, so it was tempting to stay where he was. The more he walked the drier the ground became, indicating the spring storm hadn't hit here as hard or perhaps had missed it all together. It was nice to feel firm dirt under his hooves. A light breeze wound its way through the trunks of the trees, bringing the sweet smell of fresh grass and sunlight. Fool's Gold didn't hesitate to set off in that direction, his stomach rumbling with the thought of being filled. As he neared the edge of the meadow Fool's Gold paused, ears twisting this way and that, tail swishing behind him as he assessed the area. He could tell someone else had been here recently but it wasn't a predator. That alone let him relax and he strode into the clearing with confidence. The sunlight caught on his horn, sending little flashes with each step. The wind shifted again, bringing a new scent to his nose. Fool's Gold paused and turned his head towards a large tree in the middle of the meadow, under which a pony was resting. He was still for a moment before deciding to see if it was all right if he ate here. If this was a herd's land he didn't want to intrude. Making his way over slowly, Fool's Gold paused a few paces from the other equine. "Good afternoon," he said, his voice a bit gruff. "Is this meadow under the protection of a herd?"

As Cursed Gold was grazing through the field, the sound of hooves walking up to her did not faze her until they spoke. She was quite a pony that was unbothered by the presence of others and unless they started with her, she just happened to move on her own and do her own thing. With little to no effort, she rose her head to look in the direction of the voice that spoke out to her. With the adjustment to the sun her eyes, her gaze fell upon another pony, but was it? He appeared to be in the same species as a pony, but some attributes made her think otherwise. Keeping her body the same, she shifted her head and spoke towards him, in a friendly tone.
"Good afternoon... and, to be honest, I am quite unaware of any protections in this area. I have yet to run into any herds but honestly, I have not been openly searching."
It was true that she had not been openly searching for the herd since she was known to be a one or two pony type. She would rather keep herself to a small herd of close friends than in a big herd of faces that she would not recognize.
Looking back on the friendly face that entered into her view, she realized that he was not like here. She could not just come out and ask what he was? Could she? Cursed Gold had never met a mythical creature before, but she had heard the stories and legends of those that ran around like her but had distinct features. The horn protruding from the center of his head stated he might be one of those mythical creatures.
Cursed was quite aware of her body tho and continued to peer at his eyes. "What brings you to the clearing?"

Fool's Gold gave a little nod as the pony confirmed there were no herds in the area. Good. The last thing he wanted to do was step on someone's hooves. He preferred to keep to himself and bothering a whole group of equines was never a good idea when one was on one's own. Her question made him glance first to one side, then the other. He slowly glanced back at the female, a wry look on his face. "The food, of course," he responded, his tone just a bit dry. "And the clear view of the area around me. Being among the trees is fine, but predators hide easier that way." Having the open area was better for their type, allowing them to see for acres and for the wind to easily carry scents of any that might be approaching. "I hope you don't mind if I join you. I'll be sure to stay out of your way if you'd prefer a bit of space, though." There was plenty of it, after all. If she didn't mind a companion for a bit he'd be happy to chat, but if she wasn't interested he could go along his way.

As the mare listened to him, she let her ears swivel back and forth to listen to her surroundings. It was true that the clearing had a better view around them and it was easier to spot predators from where they were, but she was not too worried about that since she had not run into predators yet. She had also noticed that his tone was a bit crisp and more to the point. Maybe he had some run-ins with predators prior? The quick though blew through her mind and she looked up at him and finally noticed how different he was from her. The large horn protruding from his head was the first sign but also the difference in fur texture. Trying not to stare, she looked back around the clearing, just to put his mind at ease as well.
"My name is Cursed Gold, but I just go by Cursed." Internally chuckling to herself, she added. "But don't worry, I'm not really cursed or have bad luck. Just a bad name." Letting out a little chuckle to hopefully lighten his spirits and allow himself to let his guard down a little bit around her. "..and I would love the company honestly. It gets boring grazing by yourself."
Cursed had been by herself for as long as she can remember and it was nice to chat with others. "Also, don't take this the wrong way, but I see you are a different breed of pony, one I have not met before. May I ask what breed?" She was not trying to be rude or anything, but Cursed was known to be blunt and to the point with her questions. There was nothing wrong with him being different and she was actually intrigued to find out. So before he could answer she let out a smile and motioned to some clover that she had found.

The introduction made Fool's Gold snort softly in amusement. Well, what were the odds? He supposed there could only be so many names in this world and it would be an eventuality that he'd run into someone with a similar one to his own. But still, the coincidence made him relax just a bit as Cursed explained that her nickname had nothing to do with her luck. There was a reason Fool's Gold didn't go by a shortening of his name and that was it. The last thing he needed was for others to assume his intelligence by his nickname alone. "Fool's Gold," he offered in return. "Don't shorten it." He flicked his long tail back and forth as she extended the offer to graze with her and he gave a little nod, grateful that she was willing to share. Ponies were, of course, rather social creatures and Fool's Gold was a bit of an exception to that rule, preferring his solitude, though he could understand the benefits of moving in groups. Safer that way, after all. And having someone to talk to occasionally wasn't a bad thing. Her question wasn't taken personally and he tossed his head just a bit to indicate no offense was taken. "I'm a kirin," he supplied. "We usually keep to ourselves, you're not the first to ask what I am." Hopefully that would make her feel a bit better.
