Ice Release (氷遁, Hyōton, Viz: Ice Style) is the combined nature transformation kekkei genkai of the Yuki clan made up of techniques that combines wind and water-based chakra to create and manipulate ice, forming it into various structures. When the user releases their chakra, the surrounding vicinity becomes cold enough to cause snow to fall. The ice Haku creates is also extremely resistant to fire-based attacks, only melting slightly when coming into contact with Sasuke's flames. As shown by Haku, as a child, he could also manipulate the form of nearby water. Additionally, any nearby water is an advantage, as the user can simply freeze that water to create ice. Using his special ability, Haku developed the Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals, which allowed him to create any number of floating mirrors made of ice to use as a shield or trap an opponent.

In the first Naruto movie, several of the Yukigakure ninja also had the ability to use Ice Release techniques. However, this was not the product of a similar kekkei genkai, as demonstrated by Kakashi's ability to replicate one of these techniques with his Sharingan. In addition, unlike Haku, who could create his own ice, the Ice Release techniques used in the movie required the users to manipulate already existing ice and seems to melt at a much easier level than the ones Haku used.

The techniques also took the forms of animals as opposed to Haku's techniques which took the form of sheets and solid spikes. Another notable difference is that they can also manipulate snow. The Yukigakure ninja most commonly used the Dog hand seal to do this. Dotō Kazahana, in particular, manipulated a special type of snow that was black in colour.

In the Peddlers Escort Mission, the main villain Renga also used a technique using ice. He could crystallise the water vapour around him into ice so transparent that it would be practically invisible to the naked eye. However, this technique was never mentioned to be an Ice Release technique.

Weak To: Earth and Lightning and combinations of both. Earth shatters it and Lightning cuts through it. Sound can also be effective against dense crystalline Ice formations. Fire is neutral to Ice, meaning that it plays against it with equal ranks. Fire melts Ice, producing water which douses the fire in the process, working as a double edged sword that composes its neutrality.

Strong To: Water and Wind. Water is very weak (double weakness) towards Ice while Wind only decreases its temperature.

• Hyoton no Jutsu [Ice Prison Technique]
After performing the needed handsigns, the user will slam their palms onto the ground, forcing columns of ice to rise up around their target. If contact is made, the ice will attempt to encroach and seal the target up to their neck. If an additional [5] chakra is fed to the technique while it holds a target, the ice will rise up, engulfing the entire body. From here, it is only a matter of time before the entrapped suffocates.

• Hyoton: Tsubame Fubuki [Ice Release: Snow Storm Swallows]
The user will hold out their palm, casting a flock of ice chunks in the shape of birds. With beaks as strong as kunai, these sculptures prove that size matters little in a fight. Additionally, by using wind techniques, the creator can cause the path of the birds to change. Unfortunately, because of their fragile size, most any equally strong Katon technique can melt them

• Hyoton Haryuu Mouko (Ice Release Destruction Dragon Fierce Tiger)
Hyoton Haryuu Mouko is a Ninjutsu technique utilizing the Ice Element. After forming the needed handseals, an ice tiger will rise from the surrounding ice to strike out against its target. Its cold nature can freeze any nearby water, and its large mass can cause a large amount of damage when it impacts.

• Hyoton - Hyoukai Koutetsu - [Frozen Sea Armor]
By concentrating and forming ice around the users body, the user is capable of creating a decently durable armor of ice. It takes longer to cover the entirety of the body, and is normally used to cover a specific area of the body. The armor is only capable of blocking against projectiles and weapons of C-Rank and below. Since it is very weak, it is normally used in the case that the user is unable to perform a more effective jutsu in time, granting the user some form of defense with which to work with.

• Hyoton Hyoukai Shoudou - [Frozen Sea Impulse]
Simple in its execution and purpose, Hyoukai Shoudou utilizes ice to momentarily heighten the offensive capabilities of the user. By concentrating and forming ice around any part of the users body, whether it be the fist, knee, or shin, the user will be able to strike once with the strength of hard ice behind it. Upon impact, the ice will shatter into miniscule pieces of ice, and dissipate in the wind. Thanks to the roughness of the ice, the attacks can tear at skin, causing some bleeding should it occur.

• Hyoton Hyoukaiya - [Frozen Sea Arrow]
By concentrating and creating ice, the user will conjure an ice arrow on top of his or her forearm. With a surge of chakra, the user will take aim and launch it towards a target. The arrow moves at a fairly fast rate, but is very predictable since it moves along a straight line, stopping only when it collides with another object. Upon contact, the arrow will shatter, embedding fragments of ice around the general area of contact. The shards cause pain to the user, as if glass was stuck within them.

• Hyoton: Sensatsu Suishou [Ice Release: 1000 Needles of Death]
The user will make needles surround the opponent from all sides. Directly above them, though, there is an opening. The user can jump away at the last second before the needles converge on their opponent, or they can simply perform the jutsu from a safe distance

• Kanki Kyouka no Michi [Frost Reinforce Method]
The user will surge additional chakra into one of their techniques- during or after formation-creating an interlaced coating on its frame, and throughout key structure points. By applying this coat, most techniques that would typically melt, shatter, or pierce the user's ice, are found worthless.

• Hyoton: Rouga Nadare no Jutsu [Ice Release: Wolf Fang Avalanche Technique]
After performing the needed handsigns, the user will cause nearby ice to take on the form of a hunting pack [3] of white wolves. These wolves are completely controlled by the whim of the creator, and are capable of causing severe physical injury on their target, thanks to their speed and raw cold strength. This technique requires an existing supply of water or ice in order to form.

• Hyoton Arashi Kaze [Storm Gust]
By heavily concentrating, the user is capable of freezing the very water vapor around them, and causing a blizzard by manipulating the wind as well. The water vapor hardens into miniscule, yet sharp shards of ice that blow around the area at great speeds. The storm is capable of hindering an opponents movements, making it difficult to move by lowering the body temperature with the ice. For one post after an enemy was caught up in the blizzard, he or she will be slower due to their still decreased body temperature. Additionally, it can be used offensively as well, and when directed and focused around a target, the ice shards are capable of leaving shallow cuts on the opponent, causing sharp stinging pain where the ice had brushed by. However, its true strength lies in its defensive capabilities. When the storm is over, the ice will scatter in the winds, disappearing as if were never there to begin with.

• Hyoton Hyotaisou no Kanshiki [Ice Emperors Judgment]
The user will start off the technique by extending one arm back, hand curled as if it were a claw. By concentrating large amounts of chakra, the user will create five icicles, three feet in length, and half a foot in width each. The user will swing the arm forward, which at the same time will cause the icicles to launch towards the target, flying at fast speeds. The icicles are as sharp as a blade, and are capable of piercing flesh and causing deep wounds, but cannot break bones. Additionally, they all collide at the center of the users focus, and are rather predictable, although powerful in terms of raw strength.

• Hyoton Hyotaisou no Kenshiki [Ice Emperors Pride]
By concentrating and forming ice around the hands, the user is capable of creating a pair of katars, conjuring a thin, yet durable blade of ice, around four feet in length from the users knuckles, and spanning a maximum width of the users own hand, growing narrower until it reaches the tip of the blade. The blades are capable of parrying weapons of A-Rank and lower, and are able to withstand up to B-Rank Kinjutsu fire. The katars last indefinitely once formed, but cost a small amount of chakra to maintain. Additionally, if part of it is broken, the user can expend chakra to repair the blades by forming ice to remake it.

• Ice-flake Creation Technique

With a source of water that could range from the size to a large puddle to a small lake, the user places his hand on top of it and only freezes the very up most top layer. When he picks it up, it will look as a snowflake due to the Chakra expanding to freeze the water. Then the user has a choice to throw it as a weapon, or use it as a durable shield. The edges of the snowflake are sharp, and thin to the point where it is extremely sharp. When the user has a vast amount of water as a source, the maximum size of the ice-flake is 20 feet in diameter.

• Blizzard White-Out
This Jutsu uses up an amount of ice equal to three lower ranked ice Jutsu. This Jutsu whips up a blizzard around the user, in a 15 meter diameter. The temperature in this area drops to below freezing, creating a discomfort effect for anyone not used to the cold. Also, anyone inside the blizzard will be subject to battering winds and snow, like in a real blizzard. However, this Jutsu only lasts for three posts, and the Shinobi using it does not have to maintain concentration to keep it in effect.

• Hyou Bunshin no Jutsu (Ice Clone Technique)
This is a highly-advanced version of the original Bunshin Jutsu. It requires one to have the Hyoton (Ice) Bloodline, and at least a medium supply of water in order to use. Using the Ram Handsign, the user concentrates their Chakra to mold a Clone of themself made completely of ice. Because it's made up of ice, it's very hard to destroy by normal means. These clones are very strong and are almost as hard to take down as the original user. This jutsu is one of the few that can travel freely.

• Ice Shield
This Jutsu creates a shield of ice around the user in a dome shape. This will stop any Taijutsu attacks of lower than A-rank and Ninjutsu of A-rank or lower, unless it is a fire-type Jutsu. This shield will only stop B-Rank fire Jutsu and lower, otherwise the shield will melt. Also, this shield blocks most sound from getting through, and breaks eye contact, so many Genjutsu will not work either. This will last for as long as it is not broken, though the user can cancel the shield at any time, in which case it'll appear to crumble. It is only big enough for two people to fit in, and a grown man will have to crouch to fit in it. Also, the user can determine how much of the dome is made as well. Also, the user cannot see anything going on outside unless they have a Jutsu that allows them otherwise, and not hearing can go both ways. The earth underneath is just as vulnerable as it would be normally.

• Ice Shield Explosion
This Jutsu requires an Ice Shield to have been made. Once the user has the ice shield created, several handsigns are needed, and the shield will begin to make cracks, but won't crumble. A moment later, the pieces will shoot off of the shield in sharpened chunks capable of cutting into skin at a medium depth. This Jutsu can also spread ice around to be used for more Jutsu once more.
