Prompt
The past five years have continued to meld and mesh the lands of Tendaji. Where once tribes kept to their own lands, many were now seeing their colorful neighbors on a regular basis. While the cultures still stand, a welcoming sense of curiosity and openness has resulted in a peace across the entire region.

What have you done these past five years? Have you explored? Have you welcomed others? What has your story been and how have you grown in this new future of Tendaji?

This solo-only prompt is for you to explore the growth of your character these past 5 years in relation to the cultures of Tendaji. You must walk us through how your character's impression of the other races has changed or evolved, and how they've grown as a result.

Devika was slowly browsing one of the smaller markets in Sulburi. She and her brother Kaimana were still preparing things for their journey to Belrea and possibly beyond. They had time to spare, anyhow, as they’d be waiting for Kai’s contact to meet up with them since that was part of the reason they were going. The other reason was for their own adventure of sorts. They’d never ventured far in the lands until Kai had left about five years ago on his first trip to Belrea. She remembered the day he told her that he wanted to go. Devi, of course, thought he was crazy and had a death wish and almost, a really big almost, grabbed his ear to make him promise to stay and not leave her. Yet she saw how much he wanted to go when he was telling her about his plans. So instead of forbidding him like she had wanted she gave her blessing and tried to help prepare him as much as she could. While she didn’t want to see him leave, she couldn’t imagine not saying goodbye and possibly never having the opportunity again. It scared the living daylights out of her. The young matori woman kept her eyes dry and hugged her brother goodbye so she could of course cry her eyes out after she was sure he wasn’t going to come back to get anything.

She didn’t miss her brother as much as she did during the dretch war, though, as that was a trying time for him to be away. She worried about him being overseas since she had no idea how bad it was over there, only that it was a nightmare in front of her. On the positive side, she was able to find something worth working for: her own path and a mentor. She worked hard during the war trying to assist in any kind of healing she could help with. Devika learned fast yet there was only so far her innate skill could take her. Thankfully, it helped her through the war and saw her reunited with her brother after two full years and some change.

Both were much more appreciative of their time together after having spent so long apart with such drastic world events occurring. They traveled home and upon receiving notice that their Grandmother was sick, they traveled back to the hidden village, the trip that always gave Devika anxiety over the swimming part. They both made it back safely to try and help their sick and aging grandmother. Devika hadn’t known of anything that could help, not that if there was anything that could help then the village healers would have done it already. The siblings stayed with her until she passed and then arranged her funeral at sea. Having to use one of the long over ground paths, they carried their Grandma to the sea, build her funeral boat and pyre before sending her back to the water. It was hard to move past that. Their Grandma had essentially raised the siblings. Maybe, if what Kai believed was true, their Grandma would be reunited with their parents. Or, if what she believed was true, she’ll be waiting on them from wherever they had managed to end up.

After a time of mourning, the two tried to resume life as it had once been. Yet, they found it very different from when they could both technically call themselves children. They’d grown in many ways. Now Kai traveled here and there for his boss while Devika traveled between Matori and Oba with her mentor learning all she could about the healing arts. They enjoyed the time between together, knowing to cherish the time with their loved ones now. That didn’t mean they didn’t fight, they were siblings after all, but they didn’t stay mad at eachother and moved on easily. It's been within the last year or so that Kai got this crazy idea in his head that they should go to Belrea together. It was hard for Devika to even contemplate it given her fear. She took up basically all the time she could deciding when it was something her mentor said to her that really helped her decide. She didn’t want to be held back by her fears anymore. She just wanted to live and live well and enjoy it as much as she could.

Devika smiled back on that decision. It had been a couple months ago and while their preparations were going slowly, she still wouldn’t take it back. She was looking forward to the adventure with her brother. And they’d do it together.
