Meadowsweet tried hard not to be jealous of her fellow pack members, but every direction her head turned, there was another wolf coming back to the Coven with a familiar spirit in tow. Aura of Rosemary had returned with an owl, looking as elegant as she was! Then, when Chocolate Melody and Dying Light went out, the both of them came back with vultures! Their birds looked so large beside them and while they didn't perch on their shoulders or heads, given the size of their talons, it still managed to spark something within Meadowsweet. She wanted a familiar spirit of her very own!

So, she'd set out to find one. She'd overheard that all Chocolate Melody had done was take a tumble in order to find her companion. Meadowsweet was ready to jump down a hill if it meant she would be receiving as epic a familiar as any of her pack mates! She wouldn't allow herself to be left behind while everyone else got a cool bird friend.

She passed through the forest, leaving in the daytime. She'd been hoping to find a crow, something that could perch on her shoulders and mimic sounds to her to make her laugh. Or maybe she could be like Dying Light and Chocolate Melody and come home with an epic predatory bird. She'd be pleased with an owl too, of course, but owls only came out in the evening and she'd woken up this early in hopes of getting better chances at finding one of the two day-time active birds!

So, on she searched the forest. She ran from tree to tree with a hopeful look and a wagging tail, peering up at the branches above. Nothing in this tree or that one... or the next one... or that one either. She felt as though she'd run through the entire forest by the time that the sun had begun to set. Finally turning back home, with her tail and head lowered in deep disappointment, she started to plod back home.

"All Chocolate had to do was trip over her own paws." She grumbled as she walked. "Rosemary had a dream and..." She couldn't remember what Dying Light had done to get her vulture, but she shook her head, frustrated about it anyway. "I search an entire forest for a bird and its like they've all flown away."

"That's because they did fly away." Came a voice from high above her. It was getting darker and peering upward at the trees didn't immediately give her the answers Meadowsweet was looking for. Who was speaking to her?

"Who's there? I can't see you!" She said, trying to peer into the branches of the nearest tree.

"They all flew away when you came charging in towards them. They were all scared off." The voice continued as though Meadowsweet hadn't spoken. "But I am not scared of wolves. You cannot fly nor can you climb trees. I have nothing to fear from silly, growling furballs." Meadowsweet could hear the condescending smile in the voice and she bristled.

"W-Well, if you're not scared, then why are you hiding? Come out here so I can see you! Y-You coward!" She barked and quickly wished she hadn't. She felt the gust of air by her face, but heard no feathers sweeping by her head. She did feel the bite of talons in her fur. While the talons on this bird were not those of a vulture's, they weren't any crows' feet either. They hurt!

"You do not decide if I am a coward because I do not immediately show my face. If you had any notion of self-preservation, you would not go barging around the forest, barking up every tree and scaring away your prey. You know nothing of stealth or sensibility. Tedious creature." Meadowsweet twisted her neck from side to side, trying to get a better look of it. She felt talons walk forward and sink into the scruff of her neck, before an owl's face was peering into hers. She jerked back in surprise, but the owl remained balanced upon her.

"I have grown tired of the skittish ways of my feathered neighbors. You are entertaining in your stupidity." Meadowsweet pinned her ears and was about to shoot back a reply when the owl pressed on easily. "You were looking for a bird, I suspect, well, I am indeed the prime candidate of avian kind. I will teach you about the world and perhaps you will come away as less of a fool and with a companion to rival those of... Who were they again? Chocolate and Rosemary? Yes, wouldn't that be grand?" Was this owl ever not gonna be demeaning? But Meadowsweet had wanted to come out into the forest for a bird and with the luck she'd had today... It was starting to seem like this was going to be her best bet.

"Alright then, you can stay." She decided and yelped as the owl pecked at her ear. "I mean, uh, thank you?" She hazarded and no further pecks came. Good grief, what on earth had she just agreed to, she wondered as she returned to the Coven.
