Finally... Destiny City. The city's tell-tale sky line was a welcomed sight after Lukas' three day drive back. Not that he could complain too much about the drive. He stopped where he could, where he wanted, and enjoyed the nature that surrounded him. Even now his destination wasn't specifically the city there, but mountain that laid right beyond it. Remaining in the city itself was never quite his goal. He wanted to be able to see the city, but not actively be a part of it. Detached, but still within sight. That's why he so loved the park he lived in. A beautiful view, sweet people, a feeling of being one with the nature he so loved. Everything he loved and desired all wrapped up in one package, in a place where he could be the one who helped maintain it all. How wonderful was it to finally be back in his real home after taking care of so much stress back in his hometown! And yet, from the moment he turned into the park, he knew something had changed. The biggest tell-tale sign was the RV that was parked in his spot. It could have just been someone temporarily visiting... But it already left a rather unpleasant taste in his mouth. This was his home. He had been here for such a long time, worked for this place, and was what he would like to consider a leader here. One would have thought the folks here, as close knit as they were, would have some sort of consideration for what he frequented... Rather than pick another spot to set up in, Lukas took his RV to the side parking lot before heading over to the Administration office. Immediately the smell of coffee and sweets filled his nose. Such a familiar scent seemed to do little to soothe his irritation, well hidden behind a smile and a little wave. "Ding, ding, I'm back." he called out as he entered the little office. At least some things never changed, and in this case, it would be the Park's owner. "Well, well! If it isn't Lukas!" A rotund man with a thick moustache sat behind the front desk, and immediately popped up to get a better look at the man who had stepped through the doorway. "I thought you weren't ever going to come back!" "... What? What made you think that? I left voicemails saying I was coming home soon. I'm hurt you had forgotten!" "N-no, not at all! You know that ol' voicemail machine was on the fritz before you left, it just happened to die not too long after you left! And, you know, we're helpless without you to fix it all!" The man seemed to quickly shake his head at the very thought that he would be so unreliable. Lukas truly didn't seem to take it at face value and only playfully rolled his eyes before plopping into the seat in front of him. "So... You know I have to ask. Who's the person parked in my spot?" Small talk could wait until the main problem was resolved... That was his spot, everyone knew that. Somehow he expected no one to have bothered to stop the new comer from taking it anyway. "Ah, yes.. That... Well, you see, we had a permanent resident join us, and we had no idea when you'd be returning so..... B-but you'll have to forgive us! He's been a major help since he arrived! I assure you, we wouldn't give that spot to just anyone!" That somehow didn't help to reassure Lukas about his own standing here in the park, and it seemed that the owner picked up on that as well. "Look, just wait til you meet him, okay? We're having our weekly pot-luck tonight. I'll spread the word and let everyone know you're back, so that they can be sure to come this time and give you the proper welcome back you deserve." ... Sure enough, by the time night had rolled around, everyone he knew was gathered around a bonfire, chatting away as if nothing else had happened. How strange... There was something still off about this entire situation. They greeted him as if he never left, but the list of requests and work that he expected to hear, or problems that rose while he was gone, never came. He had been replaced... And that feeling never stopped the whole time he chatted with everyone. Every now and then, mention of the new comer would arise, and he could only smile, grit his teeth, and nod. Now he had a name, Wyatt. Someone to look for, and someone to perhaps discuss why the hell he was here and when he'd finally be leaving. The owner had said that he'd send this Wyatt man over his way, so all there was to do was wait. And perhaps wrangle in his frown into a more appropriate, friendly smile. Tonberry Yuna X Let me know if I need to change anything!

When Wyatt had first arrived at the park, it was to a rag-tag bunch of unmotivated and lackadaisical people who, in the absence of their leader, had let work and maintenance slip from under them. And with some reason. In just the short while that he had been here, however, Wyatt had rallied the troops, re-lit the fire in their hearts, and things were starting to get back in to shape. He had even proposed a few ideas to the owner and was in the middle of brokering a few deals with him that would benefit everyone.
However, Wyatt was no handyman, and the residents spoke to length about one 'Lukas,' who, from what he gathered, had been the one to keep things running around here before. Indeed, as much as they praised Wyatt for his leadership and infectious motivation, they also had no problem with letting him know his short-comings...in a nice way of course. Everyone here was friendly and had welcomed him in like family. He'd never really gotten close to anyone in that manner, so it was new, and he found that he actually enjoyed it. He still held himself slightly apart from them, but he was warming up to them.
It actually came as some relief to hear that prodigal lord of the land had returned. Everyone was quick to set up this weekly pot luck, turning it in to quite the party. And by that he meant they gave him a list of things to cook. Wyatt had been feeding the majority of the park since his arrival it seemed. Not that he minded. Back before the events that had lead to his departure from Destiny City, he had been doing a lot of cooking and had just learned his way around a kitchen and a recipe. Now he was learning to cook for an army, and tonight hopefully it would pay off.
Night had come and the overlook's bonfire was ablaze, tables and lights were set up, some of the residents had come back with drinks and other goodies, while Wyatt was finishing up the cooking. There was chatter and cheer that could be heard from within the small confines of his RV, and the atmosphere made even him smile a bit.
The food~
For the more discriminating pallets - aka those who couldn't appreciate a well-cooked, hearty, meal - he'd cooked up an entire plate of burgers, cut some tomato to go with it, and some of the others were providing the buns and condiments. However his main pride and cooking joy for the evening was a large beef roast which he cut into thin strips, although some just fell apart in its tenderness. He'd made a gravy to go with it, and had a large tin tray of roasted vegetables a potatoes, which had been drowned in butter and various herbs. There was an equally large tin tray of macaroni and cheese, lightly peppered, and home made rolls - but not your simple lump of dough. No, he had rolled out the rough and tied them in to neat rosettes. Brushed with butter, they sat heaped together now in a large bowl.
With some help, Wyatt emerged from his RV, cargo shorts riding low over his bony hips, and charcoal gray top clinging to his upper body, its long sleeves pushed up to his elbows as he carried tray on top of tray of food in his arms.
"I hope you're hungry, and have your tupperware ready to take the leftovers," he said in his low-tenor voice that carried just a slight nasal resonance, as he set everything out on the table and removed foil covers to reveal steaming vittles.
All the while he was unaware of the ire he had drawn from their guest of honor, and just gave appreciative, albeit kitsune-like smiles to his helpers and those who eagerly came to complement the food before they'd even taken a bite. He appeared to revel in the attention and compliments, although really they did make him feel a bit awkward. He could at least play the part of the confident lord on high, however.
His silvery hair was casually slicked back out of his face, of which there was just something inherently arrogant to it. That diamond shaped face with its high cheek bones, long jaw line, and narrow nose, in conjunction with those rose eyes framed by silver lashes just screamed 'arrogant jerk.' Another role Wyatt had always played in to easily.
He was actively trying to be a better person though. Luckily, none of these people knew who he had been before, which helped. He was trying his best to ingratiate himself to them and best he could, as if that would cement his place here. There was a part of him that was desperate to be needed. He was reaching out and grasping for it like a person drowning at sea who had just been tossed a lifesaver.
Buuuut that was all internal, hidden beneath Resting Jerk Face.

So there he was... The so-called star of the show. From where he stood, Lukas could already tell a few things about this man. One, he most certainly loved the fawning he got from everyone around here. What with his damned smiles and all those compliments that came from everyone immediately when the food was set out. It Irked him immediately, but he continued to stand back, biting the inside of his lip. Of course they'd flock to him. He had food. As much as he loved his community, they weren't always the most well off, and pre-packed meals and MREs were a regular staple. Sure, they shared what they could when they had it, but it wasn't the same as this. An entire spread of food was quickly laid out, more than enough to feed anyone and everyone who came by. How could Lukas not be suspicious? Part of him wanted to ignore all the food and just keep watching, seeing how this stranger interacted with the others at the park, but one angry growl later, he gave in and filled his plate. And then went back for seconds. How could something made here and not over a fire taste so damned good?! Whatever scowl he had attempted to keep on that face of his quickly melted away to a half smile, urged on by the people who did come by to talk to him. Little by little, he seemed to warm up. Maybe he wasn't exactly replaced, especially not with the complaints he was hearing. Nothing big, nothing particularly damning of this man, but enough to atleast make him think they still needed him around. Of course they did. They needed him. Somehow, between a taste of a cobbler someone offered him, and a joke about how they were going to all be sleeping in til noon tomorrow, Lukas found himself far more eager to talk to the stranger. One couldn't simply be rude to his face, not when there were so many others hanging about. That, and the fact that even when mad, it was hard to shake off the natural habit of being friendly. Once the man was alone, he pulled away from his own little gathering to perhaps try to be civil. "So, you're this Wyatt I've heard so much about... Good Evening, I'm Lukas. It's a pleasure to meet you. And thanks for all this. I couldn't imagine a more satisfying end to my first day back." he chuckled softly, though how obvious the sarcasm was, he wasn't sure. It wasn't ever something he practiced with. "I've heard you've been quite the help around here. I appreciate that, for sure. This isn't the easiest group to get motivated, but now that I'm back, I'm sure we'll be just fine." There it was. Out in the open. Wyatt didn't need to be here anymore, and hopefully he'd either back out some and be a regular resident, or better yet, leave.

The evening seemed to be going quite well. That was, until at last Lukas finally deigned him worth talking to. Wyatt himself had been content to sit back and keep to himself while exchanging a few pleasantries with everyone here and there. He was still getting used to this group dynamic after all, and as welcoming as everyone was and at good at playing the people-person as he could be, he knew if he pushed too hard he was likely to slip back in to old habits. But now here was the returning king, and Wyatt was very good at catching tone and inferring the meaning behind pleasant words. In fact, he had somewhat suspected that this highly thought of person may feel some sort of way about how Wyatt had come in and 'taken over' as it were. Now how to respond.... This was a game he had frequently played, however he decided on a new tactic - truth. "Yeah, that's me," A pleasant smile, "Everyone got really excited when they heard you were back - I figured I'd go all out with the food. I may have been a bit excessive..." he half-laughed in something resembling amusement and the smile grew a bit more on one side as he glanced over his shoulder at the decimated trays of food. Now as for his work here... "I've just been trying to repay the welcome," He shrugged, as if it were nothing. "Everyone here has been so kind and open - I can't say I've ever been treated so well. I finally feel like I've got a home...a community. Something. When I got here, everyone was kind of down and I never really thought of myself as much of a spark to anyone's life-" just a chain to drag them in the direction he wanted them to go... "-but they really lit up and straightened up. It's been nice to bring some life back. I really hope....to keep doing so." Wyatt was surprised that the more he said, the more he realized how true those words were, about wanting to see this place thrive. True, when he had proposed a few ideas to help the park's finances, he'd been coming from a business side of things, but now...well, he really could say he was doing it from the heart. His first proposal had been an outdoor theater of sorts - the large blank wall of the central bathhouse, and the rising slope of land behind it was the perfect place. He even said he would fund it. They'd be getting the materials as soon as he had finished calculating everything. During his first conversation with the park owner, said owner had mentioned how hard it was to keep up business in the winter, but even now the bills were almost a bit much for his...generosity of allowing everyone to live here virtually rent and electricity bill-free in exchange for their work around the park. Things were...dire. It was getting to the point where he was either going to have to sell the park, or make the residents start paying rent. Wyatt's business-savvy mind immediately came up with a few ideas. The park owner and he had a long conversation about those ideas, ironing out a plan, and mulling things over. Wyatt had been adamant, though, that the residents, excluding him, get a cut of the profits, maybe not each month, but quarterly at least. At least, once things were steady. Wyatt, in just his short time here, had seen how these good people did struggle monetarily. They not just ran the park, but like himself, had part-time jobs. Luckily he had some skills and was able to get a pretty good job, but others were lucky to be working for minimum wage, or just getting odd jobs here and there. They couldn't afford to start paying rent. It would destroy this little community. It had struck a part of him that he hadn't known existed - that little molecule of empathy in his heart. And now that he had finally said what he'd felt, about wanting this place to thrive, it grew even more. Of course, who knew if this Lukas would take his words for what they were, or assume he was all talk. He wouldn't blame him - he would be incredulous too. Trust didn't come easy to Wyatt. Action was always a better indicator than words could ever be.

"Ah, all this just for me? How sweet. Though in a way, it almost feels like a bribe." Lukas chuckled just a little bit, glancing the same way Wyatt did. It was true, the food certainly was popular. If he could have a meal like this every day, he likely wouldn't mind the other man staying around. But it was clear that's not what he was going for. He spoke as if this whole place was completely dead when he left. As if it was ragged and run down, despite how hard he worked his a** off to fix things up before he left. Yes, it made sense things broke down, due to lack of funding on a lot of projects, but it kinda pissed him off at the very suggestion it wasn't going well. His smile faltered just a little, a flash of irritation, before he relaxed once again. "Well, I can't have you do everything here. After all, I do get paid to do this. Not a lot, but it's my livelihood. And I do my best." He had his own truth to tell, and there wasn't any real reason to hide it. "And now that I'm back, It's going to be just how it was before, with everyone happy to be here and content with everything. Of course, you're welcome to stay and relax here as well. My home is opened to all. If you have any issues, please let me know, and I'll fix it."

Back to how it was eh? Well, good luck with that. Wyatt didn't understand how anyone could just stay in one situation when there was some way to improve that situation. Fear of change was like an invisible chain keeping one from true freedom. And ooooooooooh boy, he could already tell that Lukas was going to erupt as soon as the park owner announced the plans, assuming they'd be approved that he'd made. It was that thought that put a bit of an amused smile on his face. Oh yes, it would he hilarious. Oh, and it seemed this guy territorial to boot, eh? Well, it wasn't like Wyatt had asked to have this role he'd come in and filled. It wasn't like he waited until Lukas was gone to swoop in and take over. Alas, he'd been burdened with glorious purpose, as it were. "Well, we'll see how this all works out," He replied, trying to keep the tone of challenge from weeding its way in to his words, but pointedly meeting rose-y eyes with Lukas' cerulean blues to signify that he was not in any way intimidated. Even if this much buffer man towered him in height, and the currently very repressed side of him had some remarks of its own. But now, no more playing. Wyatt's voice dropped to a quieter, somewhat alluring tone, and you could almost hear the sly smile in his voice; "I never had any intentions of replacing anyone, if that's got you worried. But you'd be mistaken if you think there isn't going to be any changes happening around here. You can be the head and heart all you want. I'll be the neck that turns that head, and the brain. You can make working together easy, or hard. But trust me - I don't think anyone here wants to see mommy and daddy fighting." Who was who could be up for debate....sexual connotations of the use of 'daddy' aside.

For all that Wyatt said, for all his attempts to be sly and somewhat intimidating, Lukas found his own smile fading away. A far less seen expression replaced it, one of both confusion, and... Relief. So this was who he truly was dealing with. Not some quiet man who cooked food and tried to bulldoze his way over things but someone alot more interesting. Alot more fun. By the end of Wyatt's little speech, Lukas could barely keep himself together. It all spilled over at once. A laugh, loud and deep, as if from the very bottom of his belly rang out between them, and he seemed to step closer to Wyatt, giving him a nice pat on the shoulder. "Oooooh, so that's how you're going to play it, huh, Mr. Wyatt? I see, I see. I don't think it's very kind of you at all to imply I have no brains at the first meeting. You would think you truly were trying to run me out. And for what reason, hmm? Why would someone say such things if that weren't the case?" While he wasn't speaking incredibly loud, a few heads did turn their way, curious to know why their de facto leaders were laughing. One of them, anyway. And he drew closer once again, his own voice dropping low, low enough for only the rosy eyed man to hear. "So many changes, Yes, I've seen them. The owner was so eager to show off just how profitable this place could be. All I can imagine now is you being some corporate scum looking to eventually make our little home into some five-star resort for the rich and greedy, and then the next thing you know, our home is bought out right under our feet. There's no mommy and daddy, just some unwanted garbage that showed up when the housekeeper was away. Don't worry. You'll be out of here soon enough."

Laughter had been one of the anticipated responses. Not high on the list, but it was there.
He could have done without the pat on his shoulder, but given the context, he'd let it slide.
Now, let's see here... Wyatt had never claimed to be nice. Lukas here was making a lot of his own very bold assumptions. Which brought Wyatt to one of his own.
"Wait...he didn't tell you?"
Wyatt tried to look genuinely confused. He wasn't, he was pretty confident in what he had finally figured something out, but for the sake of the act...
"I think..you need to go talk to the owner. I think there are some things you deserve to know that he hasn't been quite....forthcoming about."

“Didn’t tell me? No one told me anything. They even gave my place, my own spot for my home away. You’d think with technology these days, and what I did to make sure they had decent cellphone reception up here, they’d call me just once.” Bitterness laced every word even as he smiled. There was something to this man mentioning the owner. He was right, honesty was truly lacking in all aspects about all of this. Despite his better judgement, he could see how the Owner could have been entirely at fault, but he certainly didn’t buy this ‘victim’ act that this so-called ‘brains’ was coming up with. “You may be right. I think I do need to talk with the Owner. Why don’t you come join me? You deserve the right to defend yourself, before you find yourself removed from whatever position you tried to create for yourself here. I can hardly believe that some random stranger who just so happened to show up the moment I’m gone could have nothing but good intentions.” His hand moved from Wyatt’s shoulder, finding it’s way back into the pockets of his jeans. Ugh... Everything sucked about this, and his body still ached from that drive. All he wanted was to finally park his RV in his space and go to bed, regardless of how good another slice of pie sounded. “ You would have to forgive me for my suspicions. But tell you what.. If we can figure out what’s going on, I’ll give the idea of you being ‘mommy’ the benefit of the doubt. What do you say I see him right there, downing a beer. No better time than the present.”

Wyatt stood there calmly while Lukas ranted. He wasn't completely without sympathy. Especially since it appeared that the owner really had told him nothing about the state of the place when Wyatt had arrived. And that was wrong. It didn't sit well with him, either. He meant it when he said Lukas deserved to know. A sympathetic grimace made its way on to Wyatt's face before he worked it in to something more resigned to.....irritation? Complete with a light sigh. Not towards Lukas, but towards the situation in general.
"I have no problem joining you for this conversation. It will be harder for him to weasel out of it that way," Wyatt agreed. However, he knew there was nothing to defend regarding himself.
He was, in the grand scheme of things, the whole reason why Lukas even had a place to come back to. After all, Wyatt was funding an entire new feature himself. He was paying his own rent and doing park work on top of a full-time regular job. Despite his own financial stability, he'd taken out a loan for the park. He had brought up ways the park could get loans and grants for improvement. He was coming up with ways for the park to make money so everyone else didn't have to struggle - so they could continue to live rent and utility-free. Wyatt had done what he did best - take on the weight of the world. Seen a problem, and put forth everything he knew to fix it. It was one of his few admirable traits, although not exactly a healthy one.
"Well, I guess me being the mom is appropriate. I do feed this lot often enough," he smiled a little, maybe trying to lighten things up before they got....heavy....er. "Let's go for a little chat, 'daddy'."
Oh. Oh that was weird.

“Wait, You will?” How... Unexpected. An agreement was the very last thing Lukas saw happening from this all. More insults thrown, maybe some yelling and storming away, sure, but agreeing that something wasn’t right and that it needed to be cleared up? Entirely unexpected. So much so that he was left speechless for a moment, blinking in mild confusion and surprise. How could he remain angry, or atleast have his anger directed towards the other man, when he was being so... cordial. “Well alright then! I’m sure we can clear this up and find a way for all us to be happy. Papa had a long drive, so after eating my sweet ‘darlin’s’ cooking, I’m ready to sleep.” And Damn this men for that sly smile of his! Was it a flirt?! Had he originally seduced the park owner to get his way while he was gone? Ah, whatever. The park owner was sure to clear things up, so with a gentle nudge, he urged Wyatt towards the man, following behind with his own smile, yet doing little to hide the rage in his eyes. —- The end of the conversation left Lukas with clarity to the whole situation, and perhaps with more anger than when they first headed over. Yes, everything that Wyatt had said was true. There was no choice in stopping any of the changes that were put in play already. The dotted line was already signed, money had exchanged hands, and contractors already approve. The owner had easily and readily approved it all the moment he realized that he himself wouldn’t be paying for anything immediately out of pocket. It was all talks of money, and profits, and making this park a new hot spot for vacationers. Each word further made his skin crawl and his stomach flip with more irritation. More trees would be torn down, paved over for a parking lot that would save the park. As much as he understood the need to find ways to bring more money in none of this was done with his opinion. No one asked him a single damned thing, and all he could do was stand there and listen to how much work was to be done with clenched fists. His role would simply be as it always was, a park keeper. One to clear the already used paths and eventually keep the new ones open. Nothing for him had changed, but everything else... What use could he even be at this point. “... I understand. I suppose that also means I can’t get my parking space back either, huh?” “‘ fraid not kiddo.” “Mm...” At some point, a beer was given to him, and while it remained untouched for the most part, by the time all words were settled between them Lukas found himself downing it in a single gulp. “Welp. Best be getting on my way then. Gotta find somewhere else to set up home. Probably figure that out tomorrow. You won’t mind me parking in the main lot tonight, right? Nah, of course you wouldn’t. You’re not really going to stop me anyway, I’m sure.” “Yes, I suppose that’s fine, but move by sunrise. You know the rules, gotta be clear for guests.” Lukas simply stared at the park owner for a long moment, before his eyes narrowed so much it was hard to tell they were even open still. “Right, right, the rules. Fine. If neither of you have anything else to say, I’m gone. Ya’ll enjoy the party.”

Oh, if Wyatt knew that Lukas even passingly suspected him of seducing the owner, that would be a whole new fight. The man had standards, after all. He didn't just flirt with anyone. Not that he'd seen anything earlier as flirting, so much as just...fun. Word games, psychological manipulation, and numbers were fun. But then again if that wasn't flirting boy was he in for it if Wyatt ever did start to flirt with him.... Not that he had any intentions to. He wasn't...healthy to be with. At least as far as he saw it. The same things he found fun in and romance were a bad combination. He knew that first hand.
But anyway, it was time to confront the owner and lay to rest these accusations.
-
So there, everything was explained. Although perhaps not the most tactful on the owner's part to announce his approval of all the proposed changes, but it could hardly be expected for the slightly drunk man to consider that. Wyatt tried not to appear smug at any of this. Now was also not the time to revel in his victories.
Then there was...a bit of concern as Lukas spoke of finding a new place to set up home - afraid that the man really had been run out. He glanced quickly at the owner, then back to Lukas.
"You're still going to be staying here, right?" the question came with furrowed brows and firelight glinting off of rose eyes.
Despite the earlier harsh words and posturing, he held no ill will, and had actually found it refreshingly fun.

“Why are you even bothering to ask that? You proved you got what you wanted, you’re here, and I’m easily replaceable.” It was true. Given how s**t the town below could be at times with all the monsters and murders, there could likely be dozens of applicants vying for his job up here on the mountain. Away from it all, yet still close. The ability to still watch, regardless of whether or not you really cared about the people. “Lukas, we didn’t give your job away, I keep saying that! It’s still here if you want it.” The park owner looked almost anxious as Lukas turned to head off, away from the party. While yes, Wyatt could do a lot for them, and HAD done so much already, there were still things he was clearly unable to do. That’s what Lukas was for, and he knew that too. Still not a fact strong enough to clear away this ache in his heart thanks to all the crap that had been said tonight. “At the very least. You have me for tonight. Not going to be able to find somewhere else to park an RV this late.” Tiredness seeped into his words, ending them with a sigh and a simple shake of his head. “Sorry, ma’. Guess daddy’s just too tired to deal with any of this anymore.” It was the beer talking, making him feel even more like crap than he already did. That didn’t stop him from taking another sip of a fresh one he just cracked open as he started to walk off into the dark. Like hell he was going to leave, but that b*****d of a park owner could sit anxious on his a** until the morning. Well, until noon, since there was still things to be done before he could settle in for real. “I suppose it was still nice to meet you, Wyatt. Shame it couldn’t have been on a happier occasion. I hardly have seen eyes as pretty as yours in quite some time. Would have been good getting to know you.”

Wyatt seemed a bit taken aback by the complement, but then yelled back in reply to the retreating man, "Hey, I didn't say we could have a divorce!" Granted he wasn't sure if Lukas had caught that...
Speaking of divorce, he needed to get in touch with the courts to see what was up with his own status... He had filed some paperwork before leaving DC. And the city clerk had seemed to accept the explanation. He guessed a lot of people had to file such things with all the 'random disappearances' that happened. Huh. Yeah. He'd have to check on that one...
With that thought, he idly thumbed at the place where a ring had once been, before getting up with a heavy sigh and bidding the owner good night.
He needed to clean up whatever food was left over and whatnot before he, too, could retreat to his RV.
It had been...some night.
