It wasn’t often that Mnyiri traveled South; these days she was more prone to staying in Jauhar and spending time with her family. Discovering more and more about her shifter side had, however, sparked an urge to learn more about earthling cultures. She’d already studied the Matori extensively, though a few extra lessons couldn’t hurt, and yet the Obans….well, she’d practically ignored them.

Maybe it had something to do with the slaughter of her sisters and mother? Of course not, no, that couldn’t be it.

And yet...here she was, a week into the country in some small village outside the grand city of Sulburi. The evening hour was upon them making the sands much cooler to cross, which was a relief to her poor radaku, Mvua. His dark fur wasn’t meant for so much exposed sunlight and many a time she’d tried to leave him behind, only to have the faithful beast come bounding after her. He looked out over the crowd of growing earthlings with disdain while his mistress simply watched from the sidelines.

When she’d gone to the outskirts of town it had been to find a place to sleep since many inns still wouldn’t accept her kind, but now...it seemed like she was in the midst of a summer festival. At first it had started with a few lanterns, some warm food, and now...now there was music and dancing with more than a handful of drunk locals. In all honesty, as much as she wanted to sleep...Mnyiri was excited. The music was good, and for now, they didn’t seem to mind her hanging around. She kicked back on a half buried stone, tankard in hand, tapping her fingers to the beat.

V'demhe was in the midst of it all. As much as some didn't like her kind they'd grown used to seeing her around. A few of the locals were even on friendly terms with her.

Music played on and she laughed in merriment as the earthlings danced. When a good beat hit she started to clap her hands along with the rest of them. She wore a grin that showed off pointed canines but didnt have anything but mirth in it. She was enjoying her time as she always did.

"Aaaay.. V'demhe! You remember that time you saved my sorry hide from that Janarim? I was tellin' Jasken 'bout it. Remember?" One Oban called out over the music as he nudged her shoulder like they were old friends.

"Ha. Yeah, I remember." Dem shook her head at the man and rolled her eyes, not that he could tell. When she looked away from him she noticed another Alk among the group.

It was hard to miss the other alkidike in the growing crowd. At first Mnyiri hadn't thought much of it; she was probably just another sister passing through who had decided to join the dance, but something about her seemed familiar. She crossed one leg underneath the other and leaned forward, squinting as she got a better look. Those markings...why were they so familiar?

"Hang back, Mvua." The radaku didn't need to be reminded; he simply grunted and laid his head down on the cool stone. Mnyiri slipped off the boulder and made her way to the throng of Obans. She raised her hand in an attempt to call out to the other alkidike when someone put an arm around her waist and pulled her back.

"Hey there, sweetling. How would you like to be my dance partner tonight?" She looked back at the older, much older man, who leered up at her with a toothy grin. He wasn't wholly unattractive for an earthling and she may have considered spending a little time with him if he hadn't reeked of drink.

"Sorry, I'm a little busy right now-"

"No you're not, you're with me! I'm a good dancer; I can show you a real good time." His hands were a sweaty mess against her skin, and Mnyiri had to resist the urge to just punch him.

The other woman getting up and heading her way wasn't missed. V'demhe tilted her head to the side with curiosity as the features of this particular sister came into focus. She knew this one.. Not just in passing either. Oh, what was her name?

As she tried to figure that out she noticed a male slipping his arm around Myniri. At first she assumed it was a mutual thing, but there was something in the body language. It was strange. She took a breath and looked back at the man at her side who was deep in his own story telling, recounting the tale of how he'd been cornered by a particularly grumpy Janarim. Dem figured she could leave him to tell the tale on his own, it wasn't like he needed her help to tell it.

V'demhe got up and headed over toward Myniri and her earthling clinger. Lifting her hand she waved at the other sister. "Hey there. You're late." She figured giving the woman a way out of the awkward situation would be helpful if she wanted it. If she didn't need the help then Dem could always say that the pair of them were late to join the festivities. After all, the other Alk had been siting on a rock up until now.

Oh thank Aisha.

The man beside her didn't seem to pay much attention to their company at first, but Mnyiri was grateful. She'd tried pulling away from him subtly a few times and each movement only made him cling all the harder. At the very least he wasn't trying anything intimate; he was just hugging which was even weirder.

"You know Dem?" It was as if he was just now noticing they were exactly alone, and it seemed to give him pause. He loosened his grip just enough for Mnyiri to slip out and get closer to the other alkidike.

"Sure do. I was supposed to meet her here, but wouldn't you know it, I was running late, as always, right?" She looked at V'demhe pleadingly. Mnyiri half expected him to make a move on the other woman as well, but even in his inebriated state he seemed to be holding off.

She arched a brow slightly at the hugging. Oh boy had this one had one too many. Dem let her gaze go from the man, to his arms, to Myniri's face before she made a face that said she was trying really hard not to laugh. When the question was raised about whether or not she was known by the other Alk she nodded her head the same time Myniri answered.

"Ah, I'm used to it. Usually have to give you an earlier time to make sure you arrive when you need to." A lift of one shoulder was given as though it was just typical behavior of the woman. She gave another look to the man before she pointed behind her at the group she'd just walked away from. "If you hurry up you can catch the best part of Rorin's tale. His favorite one where he loses his best loot." She hoped the promise of a good story would get the drunk to leave her and her alkidike sister.

Mnyiri just smiled and laughed like any sweet little airhead. It must have been enough to convince the old man because he didn't seem as skeptical as before. Just a little put out, maybe, that his main squeeze for the night had slipped away. "Time just gets away from me sometimes. What can I say?"

"Oh, wouldn't want to miss that! If you'll excuse me then." He started to saunter past them, but not without one last look at Mnyiri. "I'll see yoooouuuuu later, sweet lips~"

She smiled long enough for him to see, but once he was out of ear shot Mnyiri gagged. "Oh goddess, no. No, no no no. I like to think I can look past appearances, but just...no." Turning to Dem, she nodded her head in a brief bow. "Thank you for coming when you did. Much more of that and I might have decked him."

Dem smiled and nodded her head at the man, her brows raising as he gave a last statement to Mnyiri. When he was finally gone she looked at her fellow sister and took a breath. "Well, that was.. interesting."

After everything she chuckled and shook her head. "I'm not convinced he would have stopped just because of that." V'demhe might have even gone so far as to say the man might have liked it to be hit by Mnyiri. Putting a hand on her hip she looked the woman up and down. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?" She was curious as to what it was that brought a fellow sister, even a hybrid, to the desert.
