Gods of Vigala

Gods are a big part of Vigala. Without them the world would be a much worse place than it is. It's faith in them that has given Clerics and Paladins their power to heal and combat the evils in the world. The gods themselves have also influenced many things and changed the course of the world on occasion. Clerics and Paladins both claim that their gods talk to them directly, rather in dreams, visions, gut feelings or in vague words. The gods do not influence things as directly as they used to, and some have started to lose faith though this is considered taboo by many due to the belief that gods are the only ones who can save your soul from going to an existence of pain.

NOTE: It is required for both Paladins and Clerics to serve a god. It is how they get their power. Powers/Abilities can be taken away temporarily or permanently if their god feels they are abusing their power or going against their god's teaching.

Asarai

Pronunciation: Az-uh-rye

Titles: Lady Death, Reaper, The One Cloaked in Black

Domains: Death, Fate, Destiny, Shadows

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

DnD Equivalent: The Raven Queen (4th ed version), Kelemvor

Symbol: A Scythe with roses growing on it.

Worshipers: The Dying, Mourning, Clerics, The Shadowed

Information:

Not much is currently known about Asarai. She is one of the newest gods to rise to the rank with only around 2000 years to her fame. It's said that she rose to power during the Great Wars when Humans were new and Vigala was littered with bodies of all races. Some argue that perhaps she was a Human once or some other mortal race that ascended when the gods saw the need to filter all the souls coming into the afterlife. Some see her as enigmatic, as a watcher who cares very little for her subjects while others see her as the arbiter for the souls of the dead, fighting to make sure that those who deserve it receive a good afterlife.

One thing is sure, she hates undeath and sends her Clerics out to destroy the abhorrent creatures. They are also the ones that perform the rights to make sure the dead don't come back. It's not uncommon to see her clergy being the first to make sure grounds are holy and kept safe from any undead creatures that might wreak havoc on the unsuspecting.

Ashramora

Pronunciation: Ash-ruh-more-uh

Titles: The Dark Queen

Domains: Drow, Darkness, Vanity, Lies, Secrecy, Hatred

Alignment: Lawful Evil

DnD Equivalent: Lolth

Symbol: A pair of red lips on a black background

Worshipers: Drow, Scoundrels, Politicians

Information:

Ashramora was once the Goddess of Elves alongside her husband, Illharian. After an attempt on her husband's life (See Dark Elves), she and her elves were banished to the Underdark. Spending centuries there, insanity has overtaken her mind. She now spends her days plotting and looking for ways to undo her husband and children for their actions. Outside of the Underdark, Clerics and Paladins of Ashramora tend to keep their allegiance with her a secret.

Buumil

Pronunciation: Boo-mill

Titles: The Lord of Fortune

Domains: Trade, Civilization, Agriculture, Fortune, Wealth

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

DnD Equivalent: Waukeen, Erathis (only slightly), Tymora

Symbol: Three intersecting coins

Worshipers: Merchants, Farmers, Politicians, Businessmen

Information:

Buumil is usually depicted as a rather rotund man in his 40s with shoulder length brown hair and a full brown beard. He usually wears a crown of gold with noble attire wreathed in more gold. Some go as far as to put him on a throne with a pile of gold around him. He is always shown smiling with joy written on his face, sometimes with a golden goblet full of wine in his hand. Buumil is known as a very happy god. His Clerics have no issue flaunting their wealth with charming smiles. He is a shrewd businessman, coveting wealth above all else. Most of his temples are counting houses and banks, and it's not uncommon for a tithe just to get in the door to kiss his golden statue's feet for good luck.

The Half-Dragons have a different version of him. If you ask any Half-Dragon they'll tell you his name is actually Buumilianus, a Great Dragon of much wealth. He sits on his horde of gold and looks down upon others to see who deserves to participate in his wealth. They also say that he is not a dragon to be trifled with for his bite is much nastier than his smile, and anyone caught stealing from his horde will meet a very bad end. Many Half-Dragons use him as a cautionary tale to not horde too much gold.

Chasuer

Alignment: Good

DnD Equivalent: Lathander/Pelor

Symbol: The Sun on a field of white.

Worshipers: Doctors, Farmers, Commoners

Information:

Chasuer is usually depicted as a young man full of youth and vigor. His golden hair falls to his mid back sometimes looking like a lion's mane, with tanned skin and a slim figure. It's rumored that he sometimes travels the world under guise and heals those he comes in contact with. He is a humble god, preferring to let his light shine rather than to boast about his deeds. However, if anyone should hurt the innocent, it is said that the Paladins of Chasuer are the first to right the wrongs and help those in need.

Davraxius

Pronunciation: Dah-v-rah-x-ee-us

Titles: Lord of Murder, The Red Blade, The Scarred One

Domains: Murder, Pain, Tyranny, Despair

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

DnD Equivalent: Ilmater (evil version of), Bhaal, Bane

Symbol: A bandaged hand crushing a heart with blood dripping down it.

Worshipers: Murderers, Masochists, Sadists

Information:

Davraxius is usually drawn as a gangly man covered in bandages, usually in the slums of human society. He is said to look like a beggar, one who has lost much. He plays on others sympathy for help before a wicked grin graces his face and he brutally murders anyone who would dare make the world a better place. He lives for causing despair as he takes the lives of those who trusted him.

Davraxius' Clerics and Paladins very rarely dress like clergy. They hide themselves in the shadows and dredges of the world, lurking and waiting to strike out at those they see as beneath them. They despise the nobles, the beautiful and normal people of the world, they want others to suffer the way that they have. Usually his worshipers are scarred in some way, rather accidentally or self-inflicted to show how they feel out of sorts with society.

Eviaras

Pronunciation: ə-vee-are-us

Titles: Mother Nature, Father of the Forest, The Watcher

Domains: Nature, Animals, Life

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

DnD Equivalent: Sylvanus, Mielikki

Symbol: A single tree with branches that look like antlers, one side has leaves, the other doesn't. Holes in the trunk look like a deer's eyes and nose.

Worshipers: Wood Elves, Farmers, Trackers, Hunters, Druids, Rangers, Barbarians, Corshryn

Information:

Evarias is enigmatic. No one is sure what they look like or even what gender they might be. Evarias is more like a force of nature, an entity of power that keeps the world going. Some believe that it might have been Evarias that created Vigala though no one knows for sure. Even though Evarias might be the oldest god, so little information is known that there are many different religions and many different people who pay homage to them. Their clergy varies greatly between pacifists and healers to people who carry the very force of nature in their hands.

Iliharian

Pronunciation: Ill-ə-har-ee-in

Titles: Lord of Magic, The Old One

Domains: God of Elves, Magic, Beauty

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

DnD Equivalent: Coreleon, Mystra

Symbol: A violet crystal with three stars around the tip.

Worshipers: Elves, Wizards, Adventurers

Information:

Iliharian is the God of Magic. He is often drawn as a young beautiful elven male with long shining silver hair that goes down to his knees. His beauty is hard to come by even among the other gods. He is also depicted as vain, arrogant and shrewd. In a lot of ways he is embodiment of Elven Pride. He is believed to have created the Elves, the first race of Vigala, along with Ashramora before her fall. Since then, the Elves have become his domain alone, caring for them the way a father cares for his children.

In recent days, Iliharian has become more distant toward his children and clergy. No one is quite sure why when he had always been a vocal god before. Those that believe that the magic of the world shifted, believe that perhaps Iliharian was effected in some way, or maybe the magic veil was cutting off communication. Despite this, the faith has flourished and continues to as more and more people turn to Adventuring and learning the art of magic.

Worshipers: Wizards, Scholars, Teachers, Students, Artists, Sailors, Shape-shifters, Lovers

She encourages her followers to think for themselves and to come to solid conclusions through study. She does not handhold her followers, but rather instills the belief that all people are individuals, and individuals can change things around them. Self-awareness is one of the major keystones of her teachings and is a belief that all her clerics teach.
