Amber rays of morning sun flickered into the room. A pair of windows were open, allowing in the fresh spring breeze, and the ivory curtains fluttered quietly with each fresh burst of air. The fresh air mingled with the smell of freshly baking bread from the kitchens downstairs and the sunlight lit up the larger room. Some clothing, traveler's packs and even a blanket or two were scattered along the wooden floor. A large tan candle had burned out over night, its ivory wick coated in melted wax, but next to it on the long dresser was a pitcher of water and a large empty wooden basin covered in flower petals. Towards the center of the room, across from the dresser and basin, was a large bed where two figures slept side by side.

Stirring, Kian found himself waking up to the sounds of morning life. Songbirds chittered to each other and in the distance one could hear the chatter of other earthlings as they started their day. More earthlings than usual were gathered around the fine establishment of The Drowsy Kinfa this morning and for good reason. The threat of the Dretch was over. The earthling races had united to shove against the dark creatures and over a series of weeks of preparation, of hard training and scouting the earthlings had found themselves facing the boogeymen of old.

It had been a hard fight but they were victorious.

Many had to be taken to healers for recovery and some didn’t make it back to their families. For those who did survive the battle, it was nights of celebration. They left the battlefield behind and after making certain the threat was over groups went to their respective home countries and others went to the nearest inn. It was the last night that Kian found himself celebrating with others who were traveling after the battle. In honor of those who had healed, those who were healing and those who would live on not in this world but in memory the group of travelers drank...and drank some more. Perhaps a bit too much, but it was a time of celebration and several offered to pay for drinks with the owner of the inn also throwing a round on the house.

In the heat of celebration certain actions had been had. Shifting so that he could lay on his side and study the sleeping woman at his side, Kian smiled softly. The hybrid’s bi-colored gaze was full of emotion as he reached over and gently tucked a stray curl behind the windling’s ear. They had nearly died for each other in the battle. The realization that they had been so close to losing their lives without finally accepting their feelings had prompted Kian to make a move. It wasn’t hard considering how the energy of the celebration echoed in their own bones last night and the touch of ale was no deterrent when both Rhonan and Kian came upstairs to find that once again they shared a room with a single bed. Not like it mattered when the usual complaints were covered in long kisses and caresses. Years of pent up frustrations and of unresolved emotions broke free like rushing water from a bursting dam. I won’t regret this even if I end up with a bolt or two through my leg tomorrow. He had teased lightly before falling with her in an embrace.

Now he wondered if she would actually maul him when she woke up. She’s really actually cute when she’s innocently sleeping like this and not threatening me. Kian grinned at the thought as his fingers gingerly trailed through her hair. She really was beautiful and after last night Kian realized just how much she had become his world. He hoped to never have to fear losing her again.

Compatriots in arms. Laying their lives on the line for others they'd only just met. Facing a nearly impossible demonic force to save their home. Day after day after day of strain, exhaustion, loss, and desperation. Fear that personal business might be left unfinished.

Bolstering the troops. Gathering. Trying to raise hope and strength. Taking comfort in the support of those around them. Finding the fortitude to keep on fighting. Realizing there was still reason to live. Finding out the demons could bleed like anyone else. Gathering for one final push.

After everything that had happened, it was almost hard to believe that it was the earthling race that came out victorious in the end. Rhonann stood with her fellow fighters, watching them cheer and celebrate and cry tears of every emotion. Could they really rest now? Could they really take the time to savor being alive? Well, even if she wasn't entirely sure, she couldn't help getting swept up in the celebrations. Drinking and eating without checking over her shoulder. Chatting with friends without actively wondering if they would suddenly vanish. Looking over and knowing Kian would still be there...

She only stirred slightly as her hair was played with, the long tresses loose around her head. Mind heavy with a hangover battled with the habit of waking straight away, but the throbbing headache dominated both to make her groan and roll to find the comfort of the body she was next to. She nuzzled against the warmth with a grateful smile. She- ..wait, what?!

Rho practically launched herself up from the bed, head spinning as she tried to regain her bearings. She was at an inn. There was celebrating. There was Kian, looking absolutely delicious on the bed... Had last night's passions really happened? Could she be mad? She wanted to be mad! No, she didn't. Well, maybe a little.

Turning to lean against the dresser, she groaned again and put her hands over her face "I drank too much," she finally muttered, still waiting for her head to clear a little more. This hadn't been a choice. No way. It was the alcohol. Surely. She could not acknowledge how she really felt about Kian. Not yet.

"Well so much for that." Kian's lips curved upwards in slight amusement as Rhonann sprang from the bed, "I suppose we couldn't sleep forever." Leaning forward so that silky strands of his dark hair fell over his shoulders, the mystic stretched his body. Everything still ached from the fighting and the traveling but still he felt relaxed. He almost wanted to believe that he hadn't felt this relaxed in years, almost as if a huge weight was lifted from his shoulders. His bi-colored eyes studied his companion thoughtfully as she leaned against the dresser.

Was she really that upset? Did he just let her leave? Rhonann wasn't the type to run away. He could only imagine that instead she would be ready to shoot him with her crossbow. Years of experience traveling and fighting with the wind earthling had taught him that. Shoot now, ask questions later. He just hoped that wouldn't be the case this morning. Would it even be possible to discuss things yet? Kian was actually worried he would just irritate her and make her storm off.

Instead he tried a calmer approach, "Did you? I think we all did actually." Kian shifted his legs for one final stretch before slipping away from the bed. As his bare feet touched the cool wooden floor, Kian found himself tightening the laces on his soft leather leggings. Other than that he wore nothing else, his dark skin revealing lean muscle decorated with faded scars earned from years of fighting and traveling, "I actually have some herbs that could help if your head is pounding." He commented quietly as he brushed an arm against Rhonann and reached for the satchel resting on the floor, "Are you also fatigued? You seemed to sleep pretty well last night so perhaps not."

PostPosted: Mon May 11, 2020 12:26 pm

Fingers spreading to allow blue eyes to glare through, Rhonann watched Kian warily as he started moving around. Despite her headache, she could rather clearly remember how good that worn body had felt against hers last night. "Obviously! Otherwise, we wouldn'ta done somethin' so.." Wonderful? Amazing? Satisfying? "..stupid. I don't need yer damned herbs, neither." Gods, why was this so difficult? She wasn't ready for this.

A cozy chill went through her at the soft touch. Couldn't she let herself just lean against him a little more? Couldn't she let herself feel secure in his embrace just a little longer? Maybe she had slept deeply, but the rush of battling in her own head so early was exhausting. She wasn't used to drinking so much, and the hangover helped nothing. Realizing she had allowed her mind to be exposed in such a way, revealing thoughts and feelings that had been building up within her over the years was.. It was like a bandage had been ripped off of a festering wound. She was feeling too much!

She pushed from the dresser to grab up the sheet from the bed to cover her own minimal dressings, but it provided little in any sort of comfort. "Since ye're so chipper, just go get food or somethin'," she huffed, though she wasn't sure she would even be able to eat anything herself. She needed space to breathe!

"Ouch." Kian let out the soft word before pursing his lips in protest, "You mean otherwise we wouldn't have just finally addressed certain things instead of ignoring them for years on end?" He almost rolled his eyes at her stubborn behavior before adding, "You act as if I'm so awful." He teased lightly before reaching into his satchel anyways and pulling out a tin container of herbal mixtures. The mystic's gaze narrowed thoughtfully before he pulled out a wooden cup and dropped the herbs inside. So stubborn. Then again wasn't he as well? It had taken years of chasing each other around the mainland before they had finally gotten this close to accepting their...situation? Feelings? Was that the word? Kian let out a soft laugh at his own indecision before reaching an arm around Rho's shoulders so that he could steal the pitcher of water.

As he pulled back with the pitcher in hand, Kian channeled a weak casting of firebolt magic. It was just enough to make the water inside toasty, perhaps even leaving a faint scorch mark along the bottom, but other that that the mystic had tight control over his magic. Glancing at Rho with a slightly amused expression, Kian held up the cup and poured the steaming water into it pointedly, "Let it stew a bit and then drink." He instructed as he swished the water and herbs around before placing the cup in front of Rho, "It's a bit sweet because there's dried fruit alongside the herbs. I'm not too fond of bitter myself." A slightly fragrant steam drifted upwards from the now amber liquid and Kian blew a bit towards the wind earthling, his face dangerously close, "It'll be hot so care."

He had kept close while placing the cup of tea before her and took a moment before stepping back to retrieve a dark tunic from the floor with golden embroidery, "If you would like. Please remember that we're on the second floor and that the only stairs go into the main tavern so please don't try to fly away." Kian grinned playfully as he placed the pitcher by the bowl and stole a few mint leaves to carefully chew on, "You can pour the rest of the water into the basin if you need to freshen up. There's already some fragrances in the bowl and mint leaves if you need." He wouldn't push things when she seemed a bit distraught. Morning had just started after all so surely he could wait to try a few more minutes. After all it had taken years just to get to this point.

As Kian turned to open the door, the hybrid paused almost hesitantly before glancing back over his shoulder. "I'll be back soon, Rho." He promised before slipping away to give the wind earthling some space. Kian even made certain to take a few long minutes to walk down the stairs before venturing into the tavern. Familiar and strange faces greeted him as he made his way through the morning crowd to steal a platter of bread and cheeses. He even managed to acquire some fresh fruit and a golden honey, a nectar that the locals were so proud of to sweeten the breakfast if so desired. I never knew I could be so good at room service. He quipped lightly to himself as he made certain to spend another few minutes downstairs before finally venturing upwards and towards their room. Something almost akin to dread tightened into a knot in his stomach and the mystic paused. Was he really actually nervous about this? Ridiculous. His gaze narrowed in determination. They had danced around this issue for years and he was finally going to address it. Too many events and personal histories had gotten in the way, but not today. Time to face the music. Taking a breath Kian knocked on the door twice and waited one more moment before slipping back inside to the room he had shared with Rho.

'Certain things!' Rho clenched her jaw tight. Kian said years. Had he truly been feeling the same for so long? Well, really, she could connect the dots, but now wasn't the time for that! Ignoring it was so much easier. So much safer. Safer for the both of them. Safer for her. Safer from- tea? She glanced up briefly as the sweet scent hit her, eyes dropping just as quickly from how close Kian's face was, the sight just as sweet as the scent of the tea.

Why was he being so cooperative? Couldn't he be sassier so that she could be sassy back? "Fly," she repeated with a snort. She wished she could, almost. She just stood still as Kian continued, mulling over her options. A little cleaning did sound like a good idea. However, that was when Kian said the magic words, and Rho visibly flinched. She hoped he had already been out the door before it.

Biting her lip, Rho looked up at the closed door. "Are ya, really?" she asked the scuffed up wood. Maybe he would be back. The war was over, so why would he stay? It was amazing enough that he had still been there when she had woken up. He had stuck around during the war. Extenuating circumstances, that was all. It had been a war. Now that there was no more fight, he would surely vanish again. She couldn't open herself to him and then face that kind of hurt.

Squatting to pluck her clothes off of the floor, she shook out the wrinkled cloth and set about getting herself cleaned up. More than once, she walked over to the door, intending to walk out and not look back. Maybe she should be the one to walk away this time? She could just go. It wouldn't be hard. It would make it so much less complicated. She had her things packed up. She should just go.

Yet, when Kian opened the door, she was sitting on the bed, fully dressed with a brush in her hand to smooth out the tangled locks. Her stomach clenched as the door squeaked open, eyes locked on her hair. What should she say? "It didn't mean nothin'." she muttered, "so don't go makin' a big deal. 'kay?"

Kian's breath hitched in his throat as he spotted Rho sitting on the bed, "Nothing, huh." Raising an eyebrow, Kian slid the tray across the bed and without hesitation plopped down next to Rho, "Still I can't agree with that because I feel like it's already a big deal that I don't have a crossbow at my face yet." He quipped lightly before taking a rounder piece of crimson fruit and tossing it a few times in the air before finally taking a bite. He had already been relieved to find her sitting there on the bed and not prepped to take a shot at him. The mystic couldn't resist taking a few glances over at the woman. She was really beautiful with her hair down and especially more so when she wasn't firing shots at him.

Sitting there in silence for a few minutes, Kian finally placed down his mostly eaten fruit and shifted so that he could face Rho while sitting on the bed. His bi-colored gaze was thoughtful as he finally spoke, "You know I don't think I've slept peacefully in a long time. I don't know about you but I would assume that means there some trust there." He raised a hand to his chin thoughtfully, "But that makes me worry about what you've been up to that such things are not a big deal. Do you often drag men by their ear up to a room to have your way with them?"

Kian tried his best to look hurt, "To think me, a man of fine virtue, trusted you and now you're telling me I meant nothin'." Of course he was just messing with the wind earthling now. By the spirits, he hoped that she was once again just being stubborn about things. Even if his words were playful, Kian's spirit was determined. He had nearly lost her too many times before and he was not about to just let her slip away again. He had stayed this time, surely even she could recognize that he was different. Perhaps still a bit of a teasing arse, but sincere nonetheless.

Mention of her crossbow made her snort again. "I'm still tired," she excused. Perhaps if he pushed it, she just might find the energy to go grab it. Even that felt empty in her head though. A feeling she wasn't used to was gaining a hold on her... She couldn't let it. And as the silence was filled, that feeling gripped tighter. Oh, wait, there was a spark of the familiar! Growling, she aimed a smack for the center of Kian's chest. "Jerk! As if I'd let just anyone-!" 'No, shut up Rho! He's just eggin' ya on!'

The words stung in her chest though. The problem was the exact opposite. Did Kian know? "It can't mean anythin'!" she snapped, glaring at the pouting face. "What'm I supposed ta do if it did? Huh?" Standing, she pushed away to pace the little room. "What if somethin' actually comes of this? I still got things to do, and ye're still gonna be the one flies away middle of the night." Perhaps she should have been over the fear by now, but it had spent a long time burrowing into her mind before the war happened. Cheeks flushed, she turned her back to the man she loved to hide herself. "It didn't mean nothin'.. 'cause you mean a lot. I'm not gonna go through that."

Kian studied Rho with amusement, "Tired? Then we can simply go back to bed. The room is ours until we decide to leave." He patted the pillows next to him, "It doesn't hurt to rest up before we travel some more." Though honestly he wasn't even certain where they would go next. He had never taken Rhonann to Zena....perhaps she could finally meet his family? Perhaps I would look like less of a heathen to her if she saw that I'm civil and have relatives. An adorable niece and nephew and a dear sister who would maul him once she ever learned of his past behavior towards the wind earthling next to him. Honestly he was surprised Rho hadn't shot him more in the past considering his mischievous actions and flighty nature.

Ah, there it was. Kian's lips curled upwards into a victorious smile as Rho smacked his chest, "Oh?" So that meant he wasn't just anyone then? He knew deep in his heart that they were special to each other but getting Rhonann to admit to such a thing was like pulling a needle from a haystack. Slim chance of success but when you found it more than likely you had to get pricked first. Or in this case shot and smacked.

Kian let out a soft sigh as he watched Rhonann bolt from the bed, "Well I would hope that you would embrace it. I'm rather fond of hugs and sleeping with you in my arms." He replied with a small nod. Yes, he definitely wouldn't mind cuddling more at night. It was still shocking to him that he had actually managed to sleep for so long and so peacefully. A miracle indeed for the hybrid who often suffered through nightmares and slight insomnia.

Still, he couldn't help the guilty feeling that tightened his chest when she started to confess. I have left her before... Kian still hated his past actions and wished he had been more mature. Leaving because she had been injured, fleeing to find power instead of facing his own feelings and losing his mentor and Rho's trust in him as a result...those mistakes he couldn't take back, but he was trying his best to prove that he was different and that he had grown. I won't leave. Kian shoved away from the bed and strode across to Rho, "If I could fly away so easily wouldn't I have done so already? Rho, I stayed. I'm here, aren't I?" Without hesitation, Kian reached to pull Rhonann into his arms, "You mean a lot to me as well. I don't want to let you go again, ya know? So please don't think I'll just fly away especially when I'm standing right here." He squeezed her against him in a tight hug before slowly pushing her away so that he could gently turn her to face him, "I know a lot has happened to both of us in the past, but can't we just agree on this one thing? What do you think?"
PostPosted: Tue May 12, 2020 6:00 pm

Rhonann felt her frustrations bubbling. She couldn't tell him how much she wanted to do as he was suggesting. If she could just let go of her fears and give in to what she really felt. To just fall asleep in his arms and know he would still be there the next day..

To be honest, the sudden embrace caught her off guard. Rho's eyes began to burn, and she squeezed them shut with a shake of her head. "I don't know," she admitted sharply. "I don't know what ye'll do. I don't know if ye'll fly off again. I needed ya, and ya left." Her body moved stiffly as she was turned, knowing that daring to look up at that face would crumble what little resolve she thought remained within herself. "I needed ya."

Just listen to her! Surely she was still drunk to be talking so freely! Leave it to Kian to make her feel like she was once again a lost girl, just waking up from a fog of amnesia with no idea how to proceed. It was territory she had steadfastly avoided for so many years, more focused on first figuring out who she was and what had happened to her. Then her focus had gone to finding her enemy, tracking him for what seemed like ages while he constantly slipped away. Then the threat of the dretch had taken front row seating. Now, she had to go back to finding her enemy. She still had to finish that! She just knew that she couldn't be happy until she made sure that animal was dead.

She couldn't lose focus on her task, and she couldn't focus if she let her heart be exposed to something so uncertain as.. as love. "I don't know what ye'll do anymore.." A surprisingly amused snort came next though as she ran a hand over her eyes. "Not that I ever knew what ye'd do, really."

I needed ya. The words were like someone had stabbed him in the chest. They dug in deeply and guilt flashed across his gaze, "I know." Kian's voice was soft with more emotion in it than he rarely showed to anyone, even Rho. The hybrid sighed softly, "I thought leaving was the best answer....to protect you by going off on some crazy power quest." He admitted slowly, "I won't make excuses. It was stupid of me and I caused a lot of pain which I regret." Back then in that moment he had been so enraged at the men who had dared to hurt Rhonann. Vengeance had darkened his heart and the allure of power was far too great for his malicious spirit. Honestly he still feared that the same may happen to Rhonann. If only he could turn her attention away from vengeance and to just focusing on a happier future. But would it be that easy? Even Kian couldn't let go of his thirst for power and vengeance until that drastic situation all those years ago. How could he expect Rho to give up on something she had chased for years?

Kian studied Rho thoughtfully before leaning his own head forward. Touching his forehead against Rhonann's forward, the hybrid closed his eyes for a brief moment before finally speaking again, "Believe it or not I actually intend to stay with you....if you'd let me. I think I've had quite enough fighting and flitting about for a lifetime." His gaze was sincere as he stood there staring at the wind earthling, "If you want I can even take a bolt to the knee or something to keep me put."

He couldn't resist teasing her and he could barely resist the urge to kiss her while they were standing there, face to face. Still Kian didn't make a move as he just waited to see what Rhonann would do. He just hoped it wasn't the classic headbutt maneuver, especially when he was being quite sincere despite the occasional teasing.
PostPosted: Tue May 12, 2020 6:46 pm

Now that the topic was up, Rho realized they had only briefly broached the subject of why Kian had left before. He had just reappeared out of nowhere, and they had fallen right back into the old habit of bickering and watching over each other. To hear the confirmation that it was a power struggle in his own head after she had been injured... Very slowly, her eyes began to rise. Would she be able to tell if she could see his face? Would his expression be as honest as his words sounded?

The gentle, intimate touch sent a ripple through her body. Usually, such contact was of a much tougher inclination, and certainly not desired by the man. She observed his features from such a close position, feeling herself begin to crumble. He had never spoken so plainly before. Neither of them had. It did line up with his change that she had noticed upon his return. She had certainly noticed the change. What had he found on his journey away? Was it really enough that would have him choose her?

"If I need ta use a bolt on ya, it won't be goin' in yer knee," she threatened firmly as she wrapped her arms around his neck to hug herself close to him. Her legs felt weak, realizing what she was giving into. There would be no going back now. "I.. still need ya.."

"Oh?" Kian replied with a soft laugh, "Duly noted." His heart skipped a beat when Rhonann hugged him. Warmth blossomed inside of his chest and Kian savored the moment. He squeezed Rhonann and held her close as she hugged her arms around his neck. It was a picturesque, if not a rare moment, between the two of them and Kian wanted to embed it into his memories. Even though they stayed here in this moment something worried the hybrid. How long could this peace last?

Relief washed over him at her words and he couldn't resist moving, "Good because I plan on staying around. You know I'm hard to chase away and if I plan to stick then good luck." A smirk crossed his lips before he moved forward to capture her lips with his own. She may smack him for it later, but Kian was passionate in the moment and he wanted to express his feelings very clearly to the wind earthling. They had done this dance for years and he was finally putting his foot down. Just as much as she needed him, he felt that he needed her now. She had given him a reason again, a way to find some sort of redemption in this world and a heart.

Cheesy but true. Kian pulled back and rested his head against her forehead again, "So now what, Rho?" He asked quietly as he studied her. He was cautious still a bit wary that he could chase her away.
PostPosted: Tue May 12, 2020 7:47 pm

It wasn't life or death. There was no ultimatum making her cling so desperately to Kian. The pounding of her heart wasn't from the rush of battle. Well, not a battle in the typical sense that she was used to. Earthlings continued walking around outside, their unintelligible chatter coming in through the open windows with the warm breeze and the morning sun. It was still just an inn room that they stood in. However, nothing felt normal at that moment. It felt right. Right wasn't normal, but she would take it.

Peeling away just enough to match the other's movements, Rho pursed her lips with an irked frown. "Well, if I ain't managed ta chase ya off yet," she found herself teasing back before she was swept away again. She pressed eagerly into the kiss, silently praying for this to be the truth from the mystical hybrid. If she could make him see that she was serious.. Eyelids blinking away further heat as their lips parted, she felt a blank expression cross her features. "Now?" What did they do now? After a moment, she glanced around with a small shrug. "Breakfast?"

Suggesting such a basic thing as breakfast after the emotionally charged morning made Rho start giggling. She was mentally drained. "I think breakfast first." Something tangible and present. Something she could know. She looked up at Kian and gave his shoulder a firm squeeze. He was still an uncertainty. Would she ever truly not worry? "Jus'.. not too fast. 'kay?"

Kian took a moment before letting out a soft laugh, "Breakfast it is then." Amusement crossed his features before he caught at the hand which was squeezing his shoulder, "Don't worry. I don't think our breakfast can be too fast." He joked lightly before tugging Rho along with him to sit on the bed. Retrieving the slightly tilted tray from the side of the bed, Kian started to sort through the fruits and took a slice of the bread.

"Here." He took a bit of the amber liquid from the porcelain container and poured it over the slice, "Try it." Kian held the piece up to Rho's lips with a slight grin on his face. Who said he couldn't have fun with breakfast in bed? Couples apparently did things like this all the time. If they were going to enjoy this moment then he was going to take full advantage of it. There was a bathhouse further down the path from the inn. Kian had remembered seeing it when they first came to the inn with their comrades. While others may have spent the night and had already moved on, Kian was prepared to spend as much time as possible here with Rhonann. They had fought hard and deserved a good rest after all. Later they could try to sort out what exactly they would do next. His gaze gleamed playfully as he glanced at the woman sitting on the bed next to him, "Let's just enjoy today, okay? We've had a long journey so we have every right to just take some time for ourselves."

He was worried about what she still planned to do. Kian just didn't want to ruin their moment but discussing future plans. If she still sought revenge then he would see it through with her. He just worried about what dangers it may bring to the wind earthling currently sitting at his side.
