User ImageA calling, well more like a cry for help, echos through the Betty Bay's dreams. It is hot in the dream hotter then she has even felt but she knows she has felt this heat only once before. The Barrens. "Why here? Why now? Does someone need my help?" Her question ring in her ears without sound. "Help me please." The wind carries the cry of the creature then total silences fills the are and there is nothing but the growing heat.

Waking up in panic, Betty's heart races as if she had really been there. Many beads of sweat roll down her brow and tears down her cheek. The silence had been deafening and she could do nothing about it. "It was just a dream though." She told herself to try and calm the panic. Without question she had to go to the Barrens.

Looking around her den she see that her familiar friend and companion Chenoa is still sleeping peacefully. She would have to wake her friend so they could get going. There was not time to lose. "Chenoa my friend we have to go." "Humm What? Where? What time is it?" Her eye still closed Betty look to the mouth of the den and could see the sun was still not even up but the sky was turning blue. "It is very early but someone of something needs my help." This woke the jack hop up. "Ok." She said and set to work backing some essentials; Water, robe, willow leaves, and a few other things. Betty watch her friend hop all around the den until she had all she needed. "Ready." "Ok to the Barrens we go. Hop up and hang out we need to make good time."

They made great time getting to the Barrens. Betty's leg pumped with the adrenaline form her dream. She had no idea where she was going but she prayed to the Grandfather Tree to give her heart guidance to the place she was needed.

The Barrens was still cool which both Betty and Chenoa where grateful for. The sun was only part way up but they could fill its heat warming the sand and them already. By the time the sun had reached its third way mark Betty had slowed to a fast walk. But they still had not come across anything that might need her help. "Where are you?" She said into the sandy lands. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she worked calmed her nerves. She had to have faith and stay calm or they would be the ones in need of help.

A rumble shakes under hoof and both Chenoa and herself freeze. "What was that?" "I don't know." Looking around a dark spot on the side of a hill can be seen. Betty moves slowly towards the mouth of what looks to be a cave. And then she can hear it the rumble have been water under ground. Waking into the mouth of the cave, Chenoa digs in the pack and pulls out a candle for some much needed light. The cave was big with a long tunnel. Betty followed the tunnel down. At the bottom of the tunnel was a steady rush of water. "I had hear roomers of water being in the banners but this was more then I could imagen." "Wow" Was all Chenoa had words for.

A movement form the corner of Betty's eye, spooks her. "Aaa." she yells and jumps sideways. A weak and tried voice calls "Help." The one word was little more then a whisper more like air being pushes out in a last ditch effort to save their life. Rushing over to the mass on the cave flood, without any thought that she was putting herself in potential danger.

As the light illuminated the mass they could see that a foal was curled into a ball. The foal looked to be almost a month but it was hard to tell because of the mud and malnutrition the poor thing had suffered. "Im here I will help." Betty told the poor thing. The words echoed off the walls of the cave and the foal began to shack as it looked at her and Chenoa. It made Betty want to cry her heart out but she did not have time for that. "Are you injured? Are you bleeding?" The foal had no energy left to speak who knew how long it had been calling for help. "Its ok I will just look you over ok?" The foal nodded it weak head.

Chenoa hoped down and healed the light high to make it easier for Betty to search. "Ok no blood." she made a mental note. Looking over the foals limbs one of the hind legs was at a not so natural angle. "Broken for sure." she mentally said "But that looks like all." She continued in her head.

"Ok little one I see your leg in at a funny angle. How about we fix that? I am a vivify noul so I can heal that for you. Would you like that?" The foal was growing weaker and weaker so Betty took that as a yes. With a deep breath in she let her gift fill her up and then leave her body in a red mist. Has the mist descended on to the broken limb Betty could hear the foal take and sharp inhale of breath. Betty opened her eyes and could see she had healed the wound. "Is that better little one." She smiled her motherly smile at the foal.

She could see that the foal was finally out of pain and starting to fall asleep but they needed to get back to the Homewood. "Hold on little one wee need to get you on my back." The foal look at her warily but made the effort to stand on very wobblily legs. Betty quickly laid down so the foal could swing its legs easier over her body. Chenoa tied a robe around both Betty and the foal so it would fall off then betty stood up.

"Does the feel ok little on?" she could feel the foal nod yes. "Ok I have one more gift to use that will help you sleep." Once again Betty let her gift fill her up and release form her and into foal. As rest took the foal under she felt its body go limp. "That will help the poor thing a lot. Chenoa did you pack a cloak?" she asked in the hop that they would be able to keep the sun off the foal. Chenoa pulled out a small nicely folded clock. After hopping up on Bettys back she drew it over the foal, tucking the edges under the rope. "Ok we are good lets get home." Betty nodded. It was going to be a hot slow moving track home but the would get there. Betty sent pray of thanks to the Great Tree for guiding her to the foal in need as the walked through the Barrens back home.
