Prompt How dare they! To leave the mother lands and dare steal a seed from Elzira...it was unforgiveable! No one understands how they were able to sneak past the guardians, the matron and mystic. The seed that they hoped to use for their own future was gone, and there was little hope Elzira would bless them with another in her infancy. Guardians road out, but it seemed they were too late. They returned with news that the deserters had left on a boat and were sailing east into the unknown.
It would take months for them to learn that the boat had discovered a new continent, one filled with water-dwelling creatures. Though they would send more hunters again and again, they had no luck in discovering the area where the seed was planted. Failure after failure, the matron grew angry and the sisterhood agitated.
What are your thoughts on the deserters? Explore your character's feelings at the fact that sisters abandoned your tribe and stoke a seed of Elzira. What are your plans when/if you discover their location? Do you wish to go and fight, or maybe learn more?

When the news came that a seed had been taken, Zandala’s first reaction had been rage. Pure, deep rage fueled by the idea that someone had dared steal from them. It was definitely a startling blow and Zandala could only watch as Kanika dealt with such news as well. While Zandala held her anger deep within her, Kanika exteriorized it much more. She had never seen her daughter so angry and distraught as she did now. Where was Lumikani and Zayana? Had they gone after the deserters as well? Zandala would not be surprised, she only felt slightly hurt that Lumi had not told her of her plans.
However as the days passed, she felt her anger slowly burn out. Had they not done the same to the Alkidike from Chibale? The extremists had grabbed a seed and done their own thing out here and were blessed with Elzira. Wasn’t any seed from the tree a gift? It would mean more Alkidike or Elaria in the world. Perhaps there was a positive light to be had in the end. Zandala felt conflicted with the actions of the past by the extremists and these deserters. She wanted to know why however, why did they have to steal it?
Zandala had been practising her bow skills all morning, her muscles in her arms screamed but she couldn’t focus on anything else. Placing another arrow, Zandala was aiming when she noticed someone nearby. She released the arrow, not caring if it hit the target or not and turned to the individual. It was Ai and while they weren’t super acquainted, perhaps she had news.
“Ai,” Zan called to her. “Any news?”

How could they?! Ai pelted the dummy before her with blow after blow, goring deep into the distressed wood with all of her anger. On occasion her swords would become stuck, buried too deep in the wood to simply pull out and when that happened she would use the force of a kick to dislodge them.
Ai was among the first huntress' that had first been tasked with finding the deserters. For the entirety of her life she'd prided herself on her abilities, and no one had ever escaped her blades...until now. Even after the first hunt she had volunteered over and over and over in order to find them only to turn up short every time. She couldn't even be bothered to speak with Akacia; Ai had brushed off her partner in favor of finding the betrayer's and for what?
Worn out blades and frustration?
Ai was pausing long enough to take a breather with all intentions on diving back into training when she heard her name. The huntress half turned, just moving her upper half enough to see the speaker. Of course she'd known others would be out, but she'd also assumed that her mood would have scared them off.
Maybe that would have worked for younger elaria, but not her more experienced sisters.
"Nothing." Ai slid her swords into her belt and walked closer to Zandala. "Though not for lack of trying. As soon as we've replenished our supplies we're going back to look again."

Zandala sighed heavily. Still nothing. Where could they have gone? Back to Tendaji? It seemed awfully foolish and she truly did not know if those who had remained before the separation would accept another tree. Also, there was also the fact that they had not left the island in an area that would have made traveling to Tendaji a lot longer and far more tedious than was necessary. These weren't just ordinary sisters either they were talking about no, they would have calculated things very carefully. Still, Zandala questioned the why, why had they done this? She suspected... But she dared not delve too deeply into the thought.
“I’ve been thinking of going myself. Kanika wants to go as well.” Kanika wanted to hunt down the sisters, but Zandala was going for...other reasons. One she dared not utter to anyone else for fear of what repercussions her family may feel.
“The more sisters the better right?” But the words didn’t even sound right in her mouth. Zandala looked at her dummy, how had this foolishness happened?

"We would welcome the help. At the very least, I would." After a time their numbers had swelled onto to just as quickly drop when signs became scarce. Didn't they realize that's why they needed to hunt that much harder? The trail was growing cold!
Ai furrowed her brow and stepped a little closer to the taller alkidike. "You seem troubled; is it about Kanika? I know she's young, but I'm sure she'll do fine." It was strange, to think that the Elaria were old enough to be of help on missions and hunts instead of something to be sheltered away in camp. Her own little adopted one was starting to grow so she could understand Zandala's concerns.
"She won't be alone, and I'm sure she'll learn much from the experience."

Zandala looked grime, she was not pleased with the situation. Not one bit.
“It will do her quite fine,” any experience was good for her. It would aid in her hunting skills and help her see a bit more of the world which wasn’t a bad thing either. “But no, I’m not worried about her.” Kanika would adapt as she usually did and hopefully excel. It would be a good learning experience for any of the Elaria which came with the party.
“I simply have family worries,” the Alkidike said absent-mindedly. “Will your daughter join us too or still too young?” Zandala would probably have brought her children with her regardless because it was a good learning experience for them, but not everyone could see it that way.

Ai huffed. "Fiya is just young enough not to have chosen her path yet, but old enough to argue with me about it every chance she can." Just last night the young Elaria had fought for her opportunity to go with Ai, but she'd refused. "I'm well aware that I left Chibale when I was her age, but that was different. She has time now to hone her skills and it would be dangerous for someone so inexperienced to be that far from Zinris."
Of course she wouldn't say it outright, but Ai was worried. What if they found the betrayers and a battle ensued? Was Fiya ready for that type of fight? Of course she'd trained the girl to be just as blood-thirsty as her adoptive mother, but that didn't mean anything if she couldn't stand toe to toe with an aggressive attacker. "You have my sympathies, for raising two daughters. I don't know how you made it out alive."
She was ready for a battle of swords, but one of words when she came home? Not at all.

“Ah yes, they do like to argue with us don’t they?” Zandala smiled as she remembered her own daughters and what Lumi and she had to endure. They had been a handful when they’d begun to discover who they were and the world around them. They’d wanted to leave Yael so badly back then... And now look at them. The memory was a pleasant distraction from the current woes.
“It was different back then,” Zandala agreed. If she remembered correctly she had been a prentice when she had left Chibale. It almost felt like an eternity had passed since that time. “We had to grow up a lot faster.” They’d learned on the go, traveling so far and then learning about Yael. It had been a lot.
“Yes well, I have a wonderful partner who has enough patience for the both of us.” Also, Zandala was certain that they’d at least kept them distracted enough with training that there had been no time to overly fuss or rebel. “I would not do it again however.” She said with a chuckle. “Maybe we’re just getting old.”

"For months after we came here I kept looking over my shoulder expecting someone to attack me." Ai could still feel the enemies breath on her neck and the feel of their blades on her skin. Her own sister had turned on her which burned hotter than anything else. In a lot of ways she envied the Elaria for never having grown up with that weighing on them, and sometimes, she was mad that they hadn't. A lot of them had turned into brats.
"Please don't talk about get older. I don't want to think about it." How long had they been on Yael? When was the last time she'd even seen the mainland, let alone contemplated her own age?
"Is that why this happened? Because we're getting old and slipping?"

Zandala knew the feeling all too well.
“I don’t think we’re slipping,” she said thoughtfully. “But I think the world is moving faster than we can keep up with.” It was a world view just as grim, but Zandala did feel like things were moving far too fast for her to keep up with. “I think a lot of us are stuck in old ways that haven’t changed to adapt to the world of today.” She gave a soft sigh.
“New races, stolen seeds,” Zandala shook her head. “It’s definitely all flying over my head and I don’t know if I’ll be able to catch up.” Not like she had been given a choice with Lumikani...

"We're slipping. If we weren't that seed would have never been stolen." That was a point she wasn't ever likely to give up. If their guardians were sharper, their huntresses faster, and their warriors stronger then the thieves would have never made it out of Zinris. A few could only do so much when the core was beginning to rot.
"It was so much simpler before. We fought to take what we needed to start a new life and even then there was no guarantee it would work out. Our entire lives have been a struggle just to get to this point, and for what? For someone else just to come along and decide that's not good enough? What was the point in even leaving Chibale?"

Zandala chuckled, perhaps they had slipped after all.
“We’re still here, and so is Elzira. She’s not going anywhere, so it was not for nothing.” They had built something wonderful here and Elzira had given them back gifts. Perhaps they had not done the right thing with those gifts, maybe they had slipped after all.
“Ai,” she said softly, looking directly at her. “We cannot stay angry forever, the struggles will stop at some point and what will we do then if we do not adapt to it? It will end us.” Perhaps the thieving had not been such a bad thing after all, but she didn’t know, she was not some fortune teller and there was no way she could tell any sister that they’d be okay in the end. What Zandala did know however, was that change was coming and it would either destroy them or move them in the right direction.

While it was true that Elzira was still here Ai couldn't help wondering if the same infection that brought Aisha down was already crippling her. At first she had thought Zandala understood, but now she had to wonder if she hadn't been tainted as well.
"Are we supposed to forget, Zandala? All of the sisters we lost trying to get here? What of them?" Her ire was starting to rise once more and whatever calm that had come to claim Ai was starting to slip away. She had grown up in sacrifice and pain; been molded by it to the extent that it was all she had. Any possibility that she was wrong simply wasn't considered. "Elzira was supposed to be our fresh start to stay true to the ideals Aisha should have upheld, but we're falling apart."

“No, never forget,” Zandala shook her head. “But make peace with it. With them.” Elzira was not dying, neither were they. “We can still have that you know, maybe now with the others gone, we know who the true warriors are.” The words were empty however, and Zan knew it too. She could feel Ai’s anger.
“I have to go, but you take care of yourself.” She nodded a few times, words stuck in the throat. Nothing she said now would matter, best to leave it and allow time to heal. It wasn’t the best outcome, but she didn’t think they were falling apart. Not yet at least. Zandala offered Ai one last smile and a short wave before heading back to her own tent. She needed to speak with Kanika.

Make peace with it. With them.
Ai felt sick just thinking about it.
The only real peace she wanted was the feeling of a traitor's head in her hands. It was a brutal world vision, but one she'd come to accept. That was simply how things had to be. She'd long since taken to her role as the darker side of Zinris to protect their way of life, and this threatened it.
Did that make Zandala a threat? Only time would tell.
