It was a perfect day for the Flower Festival. A group of Atmos users dredged a quarry of white clouds across the sky to moderate the sun's heat while others tilled the land at the edge of Homewood one last time. Soon, gardeners would gently gather their best flowers for relocation and Homewood would expand just a little further. One day, this whole land would be green and lush once more. Foals danced eagerly around their mother's legs, some young enough that this would be their first flower festival. Nannies had prepared games and events for them further into Homewood to tide them until evening set and the real festivities began.
Sweet fruit and honey filled the air with cloying scents. Roots roasted on quiet fires tended diligently by familiars. Song and cheer filled the spaces between trees while strings of dried flowers were hung from branches by cockatrice and rats.
Rats. For the first time in Homewood's known history, dire rats had been quietly invited to join some of the festivities. The few who had been touched by Vykeli's magic and turned into potential allies. Many in Homewood remained uncertain about their presence, but Wanderlust in particular stood up for them and welcomed them to the sanctuary of Homewood.

Ragnar had only intended to be in Homewood long enough to drop off the catbeast pelt and return home to the Barrens with the promised magical claw, but he was surprised to find himself caught among the budding festivities for the Flower Festival. It hadn't taken the buck long to learn that it was an extended celebration of the very start of Homewood, and curious to learn about the customs of the noulicorns here, he had made the executive decision to stay and to observe. He hung at the edge of the events, leaning casually against a tree at the edge of the clearing to watch as a group of Atmos users called a flock of clouds across the sky while others bustled about in search of flowers. Foals pranced about without care as families milled about in the clearing. And then, he saw them. Rats. The buck straightened, taking his weight off the tree to hone in on the creatures. Large - surprisingly so. Living among the noulicorns... interesting. His mind began to turn, planning, thinking. The buck left the edge of the clearing and made his way closer to the center, searching for either a rat or a noulicorn he could speak to about these latest developments. Quote: Ragnar is open to chatting with anyone - rat or noul! heart

KAchina had been happily nesting in her den when the breeze blow through the twigs caring the sweet sent of spring flowers. "Yumm." She said will a dreamy smile has another swirl of flowers danced around her den. "Now this is a wind dance I can get behind." She said as she stood up and stretcher her sleeping muscles. Walking out of her den the wind greeted her and she closed her eyes to dance with it and let it carry to where it would take her. twirling this way and that, leaping and skipping, the wind moved with joy and filled Kachina with its sweet joy too. It made her giggle like a young foal. A gust of wind swooshed through her mane still caring the a perfume of flowers. That's when she knew what was going on. "The Flower Festival!" She called into the wind with glee Opening her eyes to look around. It was a good thing she did though cause she almost collided with another noul standing at the edge of the festival. "Oh my goodness I am so sorry. I have got to learn to dance with my eyes open. This would be the second time I have done that if I had ran into you." she scolded herself but smiled at the pale buck before her. "My name is Kachina. Good morning." wc:228

Moon Mist was practically prancing. At long last, the day she'd been waiting for, and working towards, had arrived. She'd been busy cultivating her little grove, and had flowers ready to help push the bounds of Homewood a little further out. She flicked her tail happily as she wandered through the festivities, slowly working her way towards the place where new soil was being tilled. She pauses near some honeyed fruits, before continuing on. She was here to see the tilled soil, first and foremost. Treats could wait. wc: 88 Quote: Moon Mist is open for interactions!

Millesime had been preparing for this for a while, she'd traded for fruits and supplies for fermenting and she had a couple of nice containers full of the stuff ready for the festival, enough for a good number of nouls to drink, sparingly of course, as well as small sweet and tart fruit juice that was safe for any foals attending to drink. She inhaled the sweet scents of fruit and flowers and let out a big satisfied sigh. Today should be great, she was happy to trade her drinks, or not, as long as other nouls didn't abuse her kindness, they could enjoy her drink for free, plus she had also head that certain talking dire rats may be in attendance too, and had even had the forethought to provide some small containers that little hands could hold. "ROLL UP, ROLL UP, GET YOUR REFRESHING FRUIT DRINKS HERE" she called, "Guaranteed to help make merry!" she added, assuming there were some there, that didn't know her or know that she traded in the drink. She'd also made sure there was a large container of water nearby too, she would encourage responsible imbibement. Whirra hadn't wanted to go to the festival at first, so many other noulicorns.... but she'd heard about the speaking dire rats and that had her very curious. She walked into the main festival area just as another doe yelled about some drinks... maybe a drink would be ok. She eyed the doe, suggesting interest to which the other smiled and invited her to have a drink. Oooooh that felt tingly, tasted rather nice, she nodded a thanks to the doe and moved out into the grounds, a warm feeling spreading inside after the drink. She just wandered, mingling, absorbing the smells and sights and sounds of the festival so far. She did like being around other nouls, it was just hard when her throat closed up when she tried to make conversation. Quote: Anyone is welcome to approach her but she has a problem where she struggles to speak to adult nouls, however she loves foals, and will probably be surprised enough to talk to a dire rat (133 words)

A vine dropped down from a tree branch suddenly, a rat began her decent from the tree and paused at about head height (for a noul anyway). She gazed about at the busyness about the clearing. Nouls were hard at work tilling and preparing the soil, new plants waited patiently to be planted in their new home. Looking up, clouds filled the sky, obliterating the sun from view. So this is how the nouls did it, how they expanded the green. It was certainly a sight to behold for the barren born dire rat called Elysia.
There wasn’t much that she could do to help, except that she was a rat with a gift now and she could soothe sore muscles of those hard at work. A doe nearby started calling out loudly that she had drinks available. The nouls certainly knew how to make drinking fun. She watched as a golden and white doe partook of a beverage and then walked away. The doe came close by to where Elysia was still hanging from her vine.
“Hello there,” Elysia called in a friendly voice. “How’s the beverage vendor?” Tempest trotted into the area and bounced gleefully. It was time to expand again and she was old enough to help now. She wasn’t able to block the sun with clouds but she could help make it rain, that would soften the soil and give the plants a much needed drink. Of course now wasn’t the time, everyone was getting set up. Some were already working the soil while others provided cloud cover. Plants were being lined up in patches, plans were being laid out. It was all so exciting.
A vendor was calling their wares nearby and Tempest’s ears perked up when she heard it was for beverages. “Oooo,” Tempest cooed as she trotted over to the doe. “I’ll have a fruit juice please,” she said politely. While she was curious about the more fun beverages, Tempest wasn’t yet ready to imbibe in fermented drinks. Mielikki had spent so long living out by the bog, it’d been a while since she’d been in a crowd of nouls or at least seen more than a couple at a time. While she was a fungal noul, her joy and love of growing plants didn’t change. Her botanic mother had taught her well and she was able to grow them the old fashioned way. So she made sure to bring some of the ones she cultivated just for this day. Another bonus for being a fungal noul was that she could add much needed nutrients to the soil. The barren was seriously lacking in just that and she felt the need to contribute that as well.
She went up to a noul who looked in charge of plant placement and consulted them on where her plants should go. Once given her directions, she headed over to the zone specified and with help from her obnoxiously loud scuttle scale, unpacked them. Free of her burden, Mielikki pondered assisting in tilling. That was hard work that would be alternated between nouls. The ground was hard and would tire out anyone.WC: 525 Quote: All three are available for any interactions. Brownie was dreaming of hot blueberry cakes, fluffy and flacky rolls with butter dripping down the sides. He watched the fest before him and licked his lips. "Yummmm." he purred in his sleep and his belly grumbled with sweet anticipation of the meal he was going to devourer. He lunged for the fest with the most satisficing smile a dire could have. *BAM* His face slammed into the wall of his burrow. "Ouch!! What the heck was...?" And then he opened his eye and the dream land faded away. "Oh man not again." He had been dream walking again. "I have got to stop doing that." He grumbled at himself as he rubbed his now red nose. But then it hit him the smells he had been dream where floating down to him in his burrow. His tummy again grumbled letting him know that is was no dream. Following the smells with his nose in the air he came out of the mouth of his den and looked around. There was no obvious signs of food anywhere but Brownie trusted his nose and was going to follow that sweet smell. It was not long before he found what his nose told him was there. In a clearing a festival was under way, The flower festival which ment lots of yummy food in Brownie's book. A smile spread ear to ear and his tummy once again rumbled in excitement. A little distance for where Brownie was, a doe called out to the group the she had drinks and that sounded like a great place to start. "Wash my pallet and then eat as much as I can." He said as he headed over the doe. As he approached the doe he call to her form the ground. "I'll take two of your most popular drinks." He grinned up at her with excitement. He really could not wait. wc:316

Whirra was startled out of her dream-like state as she wandered by a large rat hanging from a vine, that talked to her... She shook her head, Right... those dire rats.. "Oh... oh the drink was very nice" she said with a smile, "That doe is rather nice letting us taste for free too" she added. tilting her head to look at the rat, "You know, that's very clever" she said, gesturing her hoof to the dangling from the vine. (80 words) Heavenly Snow Whirra replying to Elysia Millesime's ears perked after the golden and white mare had walked off, as a voice called out to her "Of course, that's in the next to the water, figured it was best to keep them separate" she chuckled, The fruit juice would be tart but very palpable and fruity, a very refreshing kind of drink, at least Millesime thought so. "feel free to take drink" she smiled, she loved this atmosphere, her eyes would be drawn to the dye? on the other noul's back, fitting, and pretty, she thought. (89 words) Heavenly Snow Mille replying to tempest However Mille was instantly distracted from the doe by a voice coming from... her hooves?, she looked down and barely contained an screech of excitement.. ooooooh it was one of those talking dire rats! She recovered and coughed politely "Well, i have some fermented juices, one leans towards the fresher, one to more of a fruity depth" she said with pride "Or i have the refreshing juice that this lovely doe is tasting" she said happily. "Did you want a leg up?" she asked, then instantly regretted it, was that rude? .. she wasn't sure. Seemed that there was a festival going on in Homewood. Misty was back from one of her bouts in the Bog. She needed a little time away from the poisoned air and needed some things before going back. Perhaps this would be a nice thing to attend? Shaking her ratty mane slightly, the chestnut doe paced the edges of the whole gathering. There were many other Nouls milling about, talking, mingling and getting into deep conversations. Well, she was more the wall flower and had chances of exploding on others... She did that one another Buck in the bog and she was sure he was not very fond of her. Taking in the sights around her, besides the other Nouls there were many familiars around. Some she had never seen. Then... There were the rats... Were these dire rats? What where they doing here? Frowning slightly, she wondered when everyone started getting cozy with creatures whom had attacked them whenever in the barrens. Perhaps these weren't the same species? Sure seemed like it to her, but hey, who really knows. Spying a small fire off to one side that offered Root and fruit skewers roasting over the fire. The smells were making her stomach grumble in protest of not having eaten in a couple days. She rolled her eyes as if to say 'fine' and looked for a good path through the groups to head towards the skewers. "Well I suppose I need to slither through to get to something to eat." Misty muttered to herself before grinning to no one. Slipping through the bushes Misty headed around the most of the Nouls. Dancing around what foals were running about, some chasing others. Their laughter filled the air making Misty shake her head at the small balls of energy. She remembered a time when she was that way, around the edges of the Bog. Those were the good times, even if they were the most dangerous. WC" 326Quote: [[ Misty is open for interaction ^^ ]]

There was so much activity. Ragnar imagined his family living here, their community living here, carefree. No troubles to speak of. It seemed promising, but they couldn't make moves without some careful planning. There were some blackhorns in their extended family unit who may not be tolerated or accepted here, and much thought would have to go into moving them in without incident. His mind churned. And then, a distraction. Ragnar pulled up short just as a painted doe waltzed in front of him, almost bumping headlong into him. His mouth quirked into a smile as he dipped his head in greeting. "My name is Ragnar," he said politely, nodding at Kachina. "Don't worry. You didn't. No harm, no foul." His eyes met hers as he said it, but then wandered away out of habit, surveying the area around him. Even here in the Homewood, it was hard to convince his habits that everything was safe. His eyes tracked Moon Mist for a bit as she pranced nearby, not necessarily hiding the fact that he was watching. Mostly because she was a moving figure, and things that moved tended to draw his attention with an intensity that could sometimes unnerve. He couldn't compel himself to stop staring until, at last, his brain understood that she was but another noulicorn and not the threat that his instincts had thought she might be. "If I may," he said, mostly to Kachina, though his words were certainly loud enough to be heard, should Moon Mist happen to prance by closely enough. "I do not live here in Homewood. I was curious... these rats that live among you. What do noulicorns here think of them?"

Moon Mist was quite sure that nothing could dampen her high spirits today. Even the intense stare of a strange buck. Well, she was being silly, and he could look all he wanted. She snorted lightly. Her joy had taken her path rather close to Ragnar, and she overheard her question. Ah, this was something she was perhaps better equipped to answer than most. She put her high stepping on pause. It wouldn't do to have misinformation spread about the rats that had taken up residence here. "It may seem odd to you, but they are not like the rats that attack Noulicorns. They've had some sort of ... awakening. I first encountered them on an adventure with Wanderlust themselves." Her eyes followed a nearby rat. "As strange as it may sound, some even seem to have gifts. I don't think their aspirations are all that much different from our own, even if their means are." This was quite the speech for the normally shy gardener, but she wasn't about to have this perfect day clouded by some Noul's incorrect assumptions. wc: 180 wc: 268

The doe with the beverages squealed at his approach; at first he was not sure if he had scared the poor doe or if she was just excited to see his kind in the Homewood. He knew his kind was still have uncommon around the Homewood. He also knew that some nouls only seen him for the dire rats that lived in the Barrens, which was not very good. He was quickly relieved when she recovered and started offering a verity of drinks for him to try in a very welcoming way. A couple of drinks she offered sounded to really delicious too. Though he had to admit fermented in the morning with noting on his tummy was probable not the best choice. Then to his great surprise she offered to help him up. It was so thoughtful of this kind doe to offer a leg up. For a noul to offer not only to come to his level but to bring him to their level was more then he could put to words. So he simply nodded his head yes and smiled. After being place up high, he recovered his voice. "Thank you for your kindness truly. Also my name is Brownie." His tummy grumbled in a reminder that it wanted food so he turned his attention back to the beverages. "I have to say that they all sound yuuuummmmyyy but being that it is still early think refreshing juice is the best idea for me." he smiled again at the doe "What do you recommend?" He asked and than waited for her recommendations. wc:265

"Ooo a buck with manors." Kachina's muse chimed in as the buck introduced himself. "Very nice to meet you Ragnar. My name is Kachina. Funny enough it means dancing spirit so it is only fitting that I would be dancing right?" She was rambling but she really did not have a flitter. Her thought and emotions were all open like and free. Clearing her thought in embarrassment she noticed that the buck was scanning the festival and his eyes had landed on another doe. "Maybe he knows the doe?" her muse shrugged "Or maybe my rambling form embarrassment was annoying him and he was looking for any out." I snapped back a little more strongly then I ment too. But it was not the first time in her life her free thought had bugged others. Shacking the thoughts that promised to darken her mood, she turned her joy on full force. It was a flower festival after all. Only bright happy positive energy was allowed here. She turned her attention back on the question Ragnar was asking her. "Or was he asking the other doe??" Her not so helpful muse wondered. "Well I personally think it wonderful that Vykeli is wording towards a healthy relationship between all the creatures that inhabit it." She paused for a minute as she though of how other nouls might be taking the presence of the dire rats. "Though I am sure some have had a not so positive response given the more aggressive nature of the ones in the barren, have only heard stories myself, I think we all need to be loved in order to full grow and flourish." She finished her thought on the matter not to sure how Ragnar would take it but she had her opinion. "What are your thoughts on the matter?" She figure turn about was far play and was curious about what he might think. wc:318

Millesime was rather excited to be meeting the dire rat, she'd heard they were totally different, at least, on the inside, than those others out in the barrens, not that she ventured that way much but dumb animals were just that, she couldn't blame the other kind really for their behaviour, they couldn't help it, she was sure. Plus, this one proved that some could be perfectly reasonable people. She smiled when he accepted her offer of a help up to the table near the containers, reaching a leg out then up, giggling when his claws paws grabbed and tickled before she leaned her hoof to the table so he could get off. "You are most welcome.. Brownie." she smiled, aaah exciting, he was such a nice rat "My name is Millesime, Mille to my friends" her tone indicating she now included him among her friends. She hmm'd a moment "Perhaps the regular juice, there's also some fruits spread out if you're peckish, or there's just water if you prefer, i'm sorely lacking in what's acceptable to your kind right now" she was embarassed but she was used to a Noul's palette, not a rat's "Perhaps you could tell me which tastes better to you?"
