▱▰▱Kenshin returned home to recuperate from a long journey from the Land of Fire. His home had an intensive security system so once he unlocked his door he painstakingly disabled each and every alarm. He shut and locked the door behind him before wearily setting the multitude of locks back into place. His home was larger than he required and largely undecorated with dark furniture. It was clear that the dining and entertainment areas were seldom used. He was accustomed to eating at the small table in the kitchen and then retiring to bed after work. Kenshin began cooking rice, vegetables, and grilled chicken as usual. His early dinner preparation was interrupted by a knock at the door. The late afternoon light that passed as rays through his closed kitchen blinds were obstructed by a shadow from a group of people standing at the front door. He quickly approached the peephole and saw an elderly man with armed guards. His face was all too familiar, however, as he audibly unlocked what seemed like an endless amount of locks. It was extraordinarily rare that anyone visited Kenshin's home. Once he swung the door open it became even clearer who was visiting him. "Good evening Kenshin, may I come in?" It was a simple greeting that was muttered out with a stern tone with a clear buildup of phlegm in his throat. The man standing before him was elderly and dressed in simple but somehow also regal white robes. Kenshin stood in the doorway in shock as his white eyes met the man's own. He simply nodded and forgot to bow as he widened the door and invited him inside. The smell of steamed vegetables and grilled chicken filled the room before Kenshin stepped in the kitchen to turn off the stove and flick the switches for the dining room's lighting. "Come in and...have a seat." He pointed in the direction of the sitting room. The old man slowly walked in before setting himself on a lonely chair in the living room's corner. Kenshin set his dinner aside before joining him in the room. This can't be possible. Why is he here? The sannin had not seen the man in a decade and now he somehow managed to arrive at his home unannounced. The regal elderly man managed to make himself comfortable with complete ease and entitlement. His guards stood on either side of him as he used Kenshin's living room chair almost as a throne as he looked around the unvarnished, drab house with quiet distaste. Kenshin's home had no sense of beauty or comfort. While it was very clean it was simply functional. Kenshin stood in his kitchen and stared at him as his mind ran a mile a minute on what he could possibly be here for. Ten years later, the man's graying black hair had fully been consumed and his face became even more sallow and sunken. "May I have a hot green tea? If you have it, that is." The man asked with polite words through bouts of coughing but it was clear that he needed the hot beverage to soothe his throat. Kenshin simply nodded as he looked through his cabinet to find that he did have green tea but it had been sitting in the cupboard for a while. Nonetheless, he heated the water and loose tea was being prepared. As the water steeped, one of the guards began to step toward the kitchen before the elder clapped his hands. "Not to worry, he won't poison me. That would be quite...illegal." The man's worn and aged stern expression nearly broke a smirk after he spoke. The guard stopped and returned to his left side as he waited for Kenshin. When Kenshin walked in with the tea he stared at the man more. It was fully sinking in now, Hajime Hyuga, the patriarch of the imperial Hyuga clan was sitting in his living room after turning Kenshin away in Kumogakure all those years ago. He handed the tea to the coughing octogenarian as he slowly sipped the tea and allowed it to pass down his throat. Hajime was eerily comfortable in Kenshin's own home as the unintended host himself seemed entirely off-balance. He sat down on the sofa across from Hajime as he waited for him to place his teacup down. Once he did, he coughed some more before finally speaking up. "Kenshin Kosei of the Tenseigan, the shinobi sentinel, sannin of Arashigakure, police captain, sage, honored veteran of the UHV and Kogarashi wars, the list goes on. Emperor Chosokabe himself speaks highly of you. Heh...somehow my clan's b*****d has become more famous himself than its lord. It's...unbelievable." After he spoke, Hajime coughed heavily into a handkerchief and folded it to hide the blood. Kenshin continued to stare at him in silent befuddlement. Hajime waited for him to respond to his borderline contemptuous statement regarding the much younger man's many feats. "I should've known that the b*****d boy who was stubborn enough to journey from Gimangakure to Kumogakure on his own by foot would've been tenacious enough to make himself something. You stared at me with your dishonorable father's eyes and I knew that I couldn't allow you into my clan. Even still, I seem him in you and it haunts me." He retrieved and coughed into his handkerchief again before Kenshin's voice suddenly boomed in return. "I am nothing like Hayate Hyuga!" His voice was incensed and authoritative in response to his grandfather's insults. Hajime held up his index finger before he could vocally respond. "I know...I know...it's a purely physical resemblance. In character, you're much like...your uncle." A new sense of pain formed in the elder's eyes that was far more than the sting of his bloodied hacks. Jiro Hyuga, Kenshin's uncle, and the younger brother of Hayate had died in the Kogarashi war along with his sons. Kenshin was not invited to the funeral services and there was a pain there that Hajime could not bear. In all the five years Hajime had not recovered from Jiro's lost and placed flowers on his memorial every single day. In one day Hajime had lost every single legitimate heir in his immediate family line. "I told him to just retire before Kogarashi could strike but he wouldn't hear it. Too damn honorable, the great decorated Jiro Hyuga, and he took his sons with him. None of them returned home." Hajime's expression became even more mournful as he looked away from Kenshin and toward the floor. Tears welled in his eyes before he stubbornly wiped them away. Kenshin breathed in and calmed himself as he meditated away his intense feelings of hatred toward his father. "Jiro Hyuga was a great man." This was the only response that Kenshin could muster. Once Hajime regained his composure, he looked back at Kenshin. "My power was taken with the lightning daimyo's perishing, my coffers emptied by the wars, and now my only legitimate heirs are gone. The years have deteriorated my health as well. I have lung cancer and I'm far too old to survive it. Now I have no choice but to make a decision lest my legacy dies with me. Hayate lives but his legitimacy was revoked long ago. I've heard that he escaped his prison in Gimangakure when it was destroyed at the end of the war and now he's razing the countryside of the empire's fringes. I'd sooner let myself be consumed by maggots than let him carry my name again..." Hayate's white eyes then narrowed on Kenshin's as he sighed. Kenshin felt his stomach tighten in anticipation as he met the patriarch's gaze. "Bow before me, lay your sword at my feet, and you'll rise again as Kenshin Hyuga, heir to the Imperial Hyuga Clan. I have the documentation to legitimize you with me and the clan is prepared for your response." An expression of unbridled shock befell Kenshin's previously stone-cold expression. Waves of emotion then followed the shock. He felt accepted, vindicated, but also uncomfortable by the prospect of only being offered this legitimacy as an act of begrudging desperation from a dying man. Kenshin silently processed the offer for an uncomfortably long period of time as Hajime hacked away at his handkerchief. "You have no first cousins to take the title. I've been without an heir for years and there are some in the clan who will oppose you but not enough to make a serious fuss over it. Should you accept, I suspect that my death and your appointment will stir the rebellion in your father once it reaches his ear. Knowing Hayate, he may challenge you, but you are far more powerful than any other heir I could name to face him. I'll be receiving treatment in the Arashigakure hospital for the next twenty-four hours. You have that long to make a decision before I return to the imperial city." Kenshin remained quietly seated as he closed his eyes and meditated. Hajime simply stood and walked out of the house with his Hyuga clan personal guards. Kenshin sat for an hour without moving a muscle while his emotions stirred.

This allows the character up to two transplants total, of any of the three categories. • Thundering Justice | Lightning-based techniques used by the Hatake are granted a concussive blast in the form of a sonic boom upon impact. This concussive blast has a range of five feet per rank of the parent technique. Those within the area of the blast have a knock-back effect applied if their body rank is lower than the parent technique. In addition, deafness is applied upon impact for two posts. • Tsunami of Justice | Kenshin gains access to the water element. • Ionic Blade | The user's bukijutsu and basic combat weapon strikes may be made complex to add their lightning element to the attacks. This causes tiered paralysis on contact equal to the rank of the technique it is paired with. • Blessings of Valor | As a world-famous hero, you are forever bestowed with an extra reward in arc, timeskip, and guildwide events. • Short-Circuiting Juken | For an additional amount of chakra that is half of the amount spent for the original technique, Hatake chidori raiton can be applied to complex juken techniques to inject the enemy's body with lightning. The Hatake's chidori raiton inflicts a tier of full-body paralysis that is equivalent to the technique's rank up to the second tier. This paralysis lasts for two posts per rank of the technique at a maximum of six posts. Applying Chidori chakra to the Juken consumes a second offensive activation. • Storm Sage | Lightning techniques cast while in sage mode and when enhanced by nature chakra burn brighter and inflict a tier of blindness that is equivalent to the technique's rank. Nuibari Attributes • Infinite Needles | While Nuibari functions perfectly fine as a long, thin blade that sits between a Jian and a Foil. It's comprised of infinite, instantly replenishing needles. If an opponent is stabbed, the blade will leave several needles inside of the opponent. It also never runs out of string either, with one at the base of the weapon, and one attached to each needle. Similarly, unhindered, the weapon always comes back when thrown for the techniques below, and can be pulled to the user free of activation via its wire so long as the nigh-invisible string is not cut. • Thread the Needle | This skill increases the speed of the wielder moderately while Nuibari is wielded.

This means that strikes involving the blade cause physical damage including stab wounds as well as seal tenketsu points and any other effects of the technique used through the sword. An additional 5 chakra can be applied to the blade to prevent it from causing physical damage from thrusting but instead seal tenketsu points and inflict pain similar to a stab wound in the area struck but slashing attacks can still cause damage. Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. The Righteous Sword of the Sentinel technique has a 10 post duration before necessitating re-activation and costs an E-Rank amount of chakra. Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.

He remembered the conversation he had with his grandfather the night before and was agonizing over the decision. This thought loomed over his mind and tormented him as the hours before his response was required passed. Even during the difficult Antioch case this personal matter was clouding his mind leading to frustration that he was unable to optimally tend to his duties. Kenshin called in an office assistant through the open door before speaking to her. "Please ask Lieutenant Kyuri to come to my office at her earliest availability." The captain immediately felt a pang of guilt as the assistant saluted and went to deliver the message. To think that he was ordering a subordinate to take time from her duties to help him with a personal matter caused him compounded shame. If Ada were to walk in then the assistant would shut the door. "Please forgive me for interrupting your duties, lieutenant. I need to speak with you about a personal matter but you're welcome to leave for more pressing matters if desired." Kenshin continued to sit at his desk and pointed to a chair across from him. He rubbed his forehead again and it was clear from his weary eyes that this personal matter was weighing on him. "Last night my grandfather, noble head of the imperial Hyuga clan Hajime Hyuga visited me unannounced at my home. His oldest son, Hayate Hyuga, and my...father is illegitimate because he's a fugitive. I'm not legitimate by extension so my uncle Jiro Hyuga and his sons took our place. However, five years ago they all died valiantly in the Kogarashi war. Hajime is offering to legitimize me as Kenshin Hyuga, heir to the lightning imperial Hyuga clan." Kenshin's words were cold and listless as he gave the summation of the event. His tired eyes looked at her after he finished speaking. "You're the only person I know who could understand. I don't know the first thing about nobility. I'm just a cop, no more, no less. I have no duty to a family that abandoned me and now wants my leadership after the desperate yet begrudging pleas of a dying lord. But who am I to refuse? I'm not bound by law to accept this, but there are deeper...older laws. The son must bow before the elder. But I have no idea of whether I can successfully perform such duties. What should I do? He needs an answer by sundown." It was clear from his speech that Kenshin was conflicted and weighing his obligations as a man of honor. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. __ To her surprise, Yarugi's clan medicine proved to be quite helpful with the migraine she'd developed since that morning's incidents. Ada arrived rather late for her usual work day at the APD, but was in full APD uniform nonetheless. The assistant gave her Kenshin's request for her to speak with him in his office and this only made her consider a plausible reprimanding. 'I suppose it just isn't my day..' She sighed in her thoughts as she neared the APD Captain's office, then instructed X to wait outside the room for her to return. Vala and Yarugi were out working with the Sengeki squad and lieutenant Kojiro's team in the Antioch search.
Upon entering she instead received a sincere apology for interrupting her. In her pause before taking the seat offered Ada thought with a melancholic smile, 'You're always a welcome distraction, Ken-kun.' She took sat in the chair across from Kenshin and replied, "No, I will give this time to you, Kenshin. It is an honor to me as your lieutenant and a pleasure as your friend." She couldn't help but be formal, but in reality it only took this much to peak her curiosity. Kenshin never spoke of anything personal, ever. Nobody knew anything of him and he offered nothing of himself for others to know beyond shrewd necessities. What's more, the conversation they had the other day while seeking Selina still remained fresh in Ada's thoughts. It was like... something recently inclined him to start really trusting others. It wasn't just with his life or to their duties, but with even with his thoughts and beliefs.
Ada nodded, letting him know that he could begin when he was ready and that she'd listen to the end. Ada remembered her last visit to the memorial site and some of the names she was able to recognize from it. She knew of the Imperial Hyuuga who presided in their own territory of the Land of Floods since long before even Emperor Shiro's reign. Admittedly, she was glad her family was given little of any audience with the wise clan of omniscient warriors and artisans. 'But why would they make their way all the way up into Arashi to meet Kenshin specifically?' Her question was answered promptly in a few following breaths at the mention of Kenshin's father among other familial politics that commonly occurred with those with higher pedigrees. Her expression showed clear interest in the things he spoke of, and that she was connecting the dots at least as quickly as he was plotting them for her with his tale of personal turmoil. The names of his deceased family members were a blur, but she was almost certain that she saw several Hyuuga names lost to the forces that invaded the land from the violent demi-god's realm on the memorial.
Ada's expression took one more sudden shift when Hajime Hyuuga's offer was spoken of. She had gone from attentive to visibly astounded, but only for a moment. His love for justice and order made so much sense with his father being a fugitive, as he described. 'Then that means...' This truly was like a door to a whole new realm being placed before Kenshin waiting to be opened if he could muster a new type of courage for it. As Kenshin said, perhaps she was the only one that could understand at least most of the ramifications of accepting such a prestigious role. He let his doubts lay bare before her as she sat with maintained posture. "Hm..." She closed her eyes for a moment to contemplate on his behalf after he'd finished talking. Ada envisioned the man in decorum befitting the head of the Imperial Hyuuga clan of their nation, sternly speaking with his subjects about means to maintain peace and security for the not only the clan but their nation as a whole. She had to admit, even in the best light of her imagination, she felt that he would find great difficulty as a politician. Even if he were accepted initially for his exceptional abilities, that did not prevent disdain or jealousy from growing in the hearts of his people who could not understand him as a person- as a leader. 'Just maybe...' Her thought trailed for a moment as she still sought an answer to give back to Kenshin.
In a moment which she would tell herself was weakness (perhaps even foolish desperation), Ada altered the previous image in her head. 'He will need the support of those who will be loyal to him through the best and the worst of times.' Such figures began to appear in brief hypothetical interactions she invented. 'And... he'll be expected to marry and produce heirs too...' It was an undeniable fact. His best move as the new leader of the Hyuuga would be to establish a lineage for their royal blood to carry on through. It seemed that this would be a powerful tool for him to put any naysayers or obstinate traditionalists at ease, or perhaps even curry their favor. She quickly dismissed herself from his side in this scenario, remembering that her family wouldn't so easily give her up to another if it cost them their own ambitions. With a soft sigh, she opened her eyes and met Kenshin's gaze again. She knew he could do it, but it would certainly be difficult. "Kenshin, you can choose to do only what you know best as you always have until now. We both know that you are the best officer in Arashigakure- if not the world. Your resolve is one of your greatest strengths, as it has carried you this far despite any matters of your origin. In fact, you should not let your resolve be overshadowed by regrets of your past." Ada hesitantly sought one of the troubled man's hands that was resting on the desktop, gently clasping it between both of hers. She continued to assure him with a confident smile, "If you put your mind to it, you will become a fine leader of the Imperial Hyuuga." A pause ensued, "However, I cannot lie, that world is treacherous. Many expect ease and luxury, but everything comes with a price- even if you yourself do not pay it. Remember that, please." She finished saying this while somehow managing to keep her smile from fading in the same way that she removed herself from the simulation she manifested for him. "I know that you are strong and worthy to lead because you have profound honor, an admirable belief in justice, and now also a faith that helps guide you for the sakes of others." While she was quite absolved of the last quality, she saw it as one nonetheless. "If you choose not to accept Hajime's request, however, then I fear that your family's fate is largely left to the unknown. It sounds as though they are in dire need of you..." Ada quickly retracted her hands at this point and apologized, "I am very sorry, I don't mean to say this to pressure your decision." She didn't even notice the one tear that managed to free itself from the prison of her own troubled heart while she looked away somewhat and finished by saying, "You only sought my counsel." She wondered for a moment if she wasn't projecting her own desires on accident. Once the tear reached her chin she reactively wiped it away all the way up to the eye it escaped from.

▱▰▱He was grateful of Ada's grace in allowing him to speak to her on a personal level. This helped him shake away the guilt of interrupting her duties. There was no higher purpose than the pursuit of honest labor and justice but he hoped that her time in counsel would lead him to continue such pursuits. Being referred to as a friend was difficult for him to accept given his habit of avoiding such relationships to continue fully focusing on his path. He watched as she responded to him and was also relieved that she seemed to understand the extensive background information.
As Ada elaborated and reassured him he felt the burden of bitterness in his heart begin to melt away. His vision of his younger self being turned away from the family over a decade prior while he was in Kumogakure began to be replaced by what could be. He imagined that he would be able to take a position to grant each person under his leadership what was fair and just. This image was only bolstered by Ada's reminder that many in his clan would live with the consequence of this choice. The idea of leaving the Arashigakure police force stirred dismay in him that was quickly banished by the knowledge that his service would allow them to continue to succeed. In the last many years he managed to lower Arashigakure's crime rate, make careers, and exterminate internal corruption in the department. Ada's case for his acceptance was very persuasive but it was not until she grabbed his hand with her's that he began to consider why she might be advocating so ardently for this. His white eyes focused on her hands as they covered his lone hand on the desk. Is this...what she wants for me? The fog of turmoil in Kenshin's mind cleared as he suddenly realized what this could mean for him and Ada. How could he not have realized that this would mean that he could properly pursue her? His eyes widened ever so slightly in surprise at her motion and his realization before he looked into Ada's eyes unflinchingly.
As she motioned to retract her hands he would swiftly and firmly grip the fingers of her right hand. He would allow her left hand to return to her side as his hand now held her's to reassure her. His heart then swelled with adrenaline that he had never felt before. Kenshin had charged onto the field of battle many times and felt excitement mixed with fear but even that did not have the same intensity as this feeling. The captain exhaled as he interlaced his fingers with hers to lock their hands over the desk. When he saw a tear leave her eye he leaned forward and used his left thumb to wipe it away. He rested his hand on her face for a few lingering moments as his sharp and surprised eyes softened on her. His stoneface remained stern but softened as his clenched jaw relaxed. Kenshin became inspired by the intimacy of the moment but breathed in to remain composed as he stared at her. Every bone in his body was ordering him to retract his hands from her but he ignored it. "No, Ada. Thank you, I see now that this is what I can and...must do." He spoke with resolve even as his amorous emotions softened his voice in a way that was profound and beyond his control. His words combated Ada's doubts about her place in advising him. In a way, he was reassuring her just as she was for him. Kenshin then lowered his left hand before returning it to his side but his right hand remained in contact with her's. "What are you holding back?" He asked to deal a massive blow to the wall that stood between them for so long. He felt the need to know what was causing her to tear up. Kenshin's self-imposed restraints began to loosen as he continued to hold her hand and comfort her. Despite his trepidation, he managed to successfully command the moments with action and few words. His heart softened as he looked at her from the other side of the desk and waited to hear what elicited such an emotional response in her as he was completely ignorant of the depths of her family-related woes.

Nuibari Attributes • Infinite Needles | While Nuibari functions perfectly fine as a long, thin blade that sits between a Jian and a Foil. It's comprised of infinite, instantly replenishing needles. If an opponent is stabbed, the blade will leave several needles inside of the opponent. It also never runs out of string either, with one at the base of the weapon, and one attached to each needle. Similarly, unhindered, the weapon always comes back when thrown for the techniques below, and can be pulled to the user free of activation via its wire so long as the nigh-invisible string is not cut. • Thread the Needle | This skill increases the speed of the wielder moderately while Nuibari is wielded.

__ Ada felt glad that Kenshin had allowed her to convey her appreciation of him; although, she quietly wished she could have been less formal about it. Perhaps she could have. What she didn't expect was for Kenshin to not only hold her hand but dry her tear before she could reach it herself. She realized in her look of mixed astonishment and embarrassment that it was silly to think that such a thing would go unnoticed by the man she just acknowledge to be the greatest officer in the village. Even so, his tone and his demeanor were so much more... amorous. Her face quickly turned to a flushed red as she tried to hide her sudden anxiety. 'I should stop this, I can stop this, yet... I do not want to.' Ada thought just for a moment of the advice she gave to this fine man, and wondered if she wasn't projecting some advice that she too was due for onto him instead? There wasn't time to consider that for long before Kenshin asked her such a simple but pointed question with such interest and concern. She didn't plan to enter this room and give up her long fight alone against the Rio family to a mere six syllables. It was unthinkable to her- normally. She could tell she didn't feel as she normally did in this moment. When did that change? The last few minutes? Days? Weeks? Longer!? Ada's mind was in a whorl and she caught herself stuttering with deep reluctance to tell him what was going on since the beginning of her own day, "K-Kenshin, I... ummn. How do I say this? The Rio want to marry me off to a number of suitors they've sent here to Arashigakure to court me. But..." She didn't want to admit to her rebellious side as well. 'Don't be so stubborn. He has confided in you twice now. Get it together! Focus, then make a decision.' Ada turned back to stare at the hand holding hers, and how hers still gently kept his hand in hers too. Her eyes trailed up toward the concerned man and she had to stand. "I cannot do it anymore. I won't." She shook her head and let go. Not of Kenshin's hand, no. Instead she let herself be free for a moment. A rare moment where she didn't feel obligated to keep appearance, avoid soiling her famliy's name, or to meet anyone expectations- including her own. The small, almost unnoticeable tear had left a faint trail down her right cheek, and it was soon accompanied by many more in its wake. She let herself weep through closed and she hung her head, "Kenshin... I'm tired of living in my own prison every day. I'm sick of feeling like all of my accomplishments are for anyone else to claim or use for their own means. I'm worried- no...' She shook her head, letting the tears falling in a mild rhythm from her chin scatter just a little more across her side of Kenshin's desk. Ada opened her eyes to Kenshin once more and just saw... well she didn't know how to describe it because it wasn't anything more than an abstract concept until this moment. She saw hope in him, and was truly dreading that she would not reach it or that such hope might be snatched away from her. "Kenshin, I'm afraid that I must live my life as someone else's puppet. I just... want to be free at last." She allowed her own weakness to show to this one man. Not one soul, or even X knew of her truest feelings, fears, or desires. Everyone always just seemed to assume that she did whatever she would to further her prestige and renown, or simply to prove herself. They weren't always wrong, except that she didn't often take action for such basic wants. Ada continued to stand, holding Kenshin's hand from across the desk, unsure of what to do with herself now. It took much of her mental fortitude to not fall back into her gripping doubts and emotional anguish after doing something so haphazard. However, something deep inside assured her that she was safe. She could rely on and trust Kenshin now just as she did many times before.

Ada's following smattering of flustered and stuttering words caught him off-guard. She was always perfectly eloquent and professional. He took a moment to fully absorb the implications of what she said but before he could completely ruminate she stood up and allowed her suppressed emotions to pour out. When her tears picked up into full sobbing Kenshin quickly jumped onto his feet before running around his desk. Once he was on her side he used their connecting hands to pull her into a tight embrace with him. The tall man kept his left arm tightly wrapped around her back before using his right hand to gently cradle the back of her head and push her face into his shoulder.

The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. __ Ada wouldn't fight Kenshin's embrace in the least. His body was solid- as sturdy and reliable physically as his sense of honor and duty. Being this much nearer to such a symbol only helped to start easing her poignant woes. She tried her best to ease her tears as he held her in his arms. To her surprise, he had just the thing to say in order to help her with that as well. What if... I become one of your suitors? This suggestion echoed through her being an seemingly deeper. Ada looked up from where she had been allowed to hide her face in his chest and listened to the rest of what he had to say about the matter. She'd been thinking this since he told her of his own plight, and somehow he just knew what she hoped could be. She studied him quietly, unable to help a soft chuckle at the awkward self-catch to make it less of a business proposition. "Kenshin..." Her own arms slid under his and hugged him in return, showing her appreciation, "As I would be honored to be your wife." She paused after admitting this. Her thoughts were at war with each other. The idea of letting her emotions take the lead was an affront to all she knew. With everything going on in their own lives and in the village, her sense of duty roared in disdain for her hurried response. "Please." Ada pulled away, reminding herself of the commitment she was about to agree to. Kenshin's good will and affection were not simple tokens for her to take advantage of in a moment of passion. "Please just give me some time to think." Ada pulled away from the man, wiping away what moisture remained on her cheeks. A pained, yet hopeful smile was directed at the man as she gave him her ever-respectful salute. "Sir, I will take the rest of today off to recompose myself." She had no doubt that he would allow her that request, if only because of the unused sick time she'd accumulated in the last five years. Ada moved toward the door to exit the captain's office but looked back to him, "Good luck, Kenshin Hyuga, and thank you." With one last nod she turned to leave with a smile she hadn't remembered since her youth. X curiously studied her new demeanor, honestly unsure of what to make of it. There was a renewed liveliness to her step, and he could only pretend to not have accidentally overheard the whole exchange.

▱▰▱When Ada returned his hug and chuckled before responding in kind he felt his heart swell. This was before it sank when she left his arms. When she stated that she needed time to think he nodded. He felt a shock go through his system as he realized that he left his passions to possess him without hindrance. However, he felt reassured by Ada's passionately positive response to him. He agreed with her idea to take the time to meditate on the subject before responding. Nonetheless, this response bewildered him on if she agreed with this course of action or not. Kenshin was accustomed to the commoner aspect of proposing marriage where the man asks and the woman answers. Perhaps the situation was even more complicated than he realized. When Ada asked him if she could leave early for the day he returned her salute. "Of course." His response was simple as he turned and watched her walk out of the room. When she thanked him his eyes expressed longing before he nodded quietly. Once the door shut behind her he murmured under his breath. "Thank you." Kenshin then clutched his chest with one hand as he sat on his desk's surface and loosed a sighed of contentment. His mind was awhirl with excitement paired with doubt wondering what her answer would eventually be. A pang of regret hit him that perhaps it was all moving too fast but he quickly triumphed over that feeling by focusing on the task at hand. Kenshin would stand again and walk out of his office to clock out early as Ada did. Immediately, he went to the Arashigakure healing district with hours to spare before his deadline to give Hajime an answer with hours to spare.
Once he arrived at the hospital, he could see Hajime seated in a private waiting room through a glass window. The once-mighty lord sat in his wheelchair awaiting Kenshin after his cancer treatments. His guards stood on either side of him and notified him of Kenshin's approach as he coughed into the cloth in his hand. When the guards permitted his entry he would stand in front of his grandfather and bow deeply. "Greetings my lord. How was your stay in the facility?" Kenshin was sincerely curious about how his grandfather's condition was proceeding. The regal man waved for Kenshin to stand up and face him before responding. "Fine. The treatments have stabilized my condition but I'm far from remission. Now then, what's your answer to my proposition?" Hajime overall had a clear sense of urgency that, unbeknownst to Kenshin, was atypical of him when he was a younger and healthier man. His patience was at times the cause of crippling inaction. However, the constant reminder of his own mortality caused him to approach his duties with haste. "I'm honored to accept." Kenshin immediately bowed in front of the seated sickly man. His spirit sword, Getsuruito, manifested before his grandfather's feet. Hajime seemed slightly disgusted by the appearance of the famously unorthodox medium for the gentle fist as a bukijutsu style. "Kenshin Kosei, do you swear undying loyalty to the Hyuga clan of the lightning empire?" With his Hyuga guards as his witnesses, Hajime recited the appropriate oath of legitimacy. "I do." Kenshin responded as he kept his head down. "And will you serve, guard, and nurture the Hyuga clan to the best of your ability?" Hajime asked and was followed by Kenshin's resolute response. "I will." Hajime then nodded his head regally once more as the guards responded with their own nod of acceptance as witnesses. "Then by my right as the patriarch of the imperial lightning Hyuga clan, I pronounce you, Kenshin Hyuga, as the sole legitimate heir." Hajime then motioned for Kenshin to stand. It was clear that Hajime begrudged the inability to hold a proper ceremony in his palace in Kumoito but this was a necessity. The patriarch knew that he could perish at any moment and leave the fate of his clan to ruin. When Kenshin stood, Getsuruito disappeared and in less than a minute his grandfather's actions dismissed all of the illegitimacy that he carried as a burden for his entire life. "I'll be getting off this flying rock and returning to Kumoito shortly to assert your claim as my heir." Hajime then snapped his fingers as a guard approached him with a folder filled with paperwork and a stamp. The lord signed and stamped each page quickly but precisely before returning it to the attendant. "It'll be a significant amount of time before you're needed in Kumoito. I still have enough strength to tend to the clan's affairs. Especially now that our treasury is smaller and our land holdings are restricted to the manor in Kumoito. Both are a consequence of the wars and the only reasons we're still in the upper echelon of the imperial nobility are our old name and the emperor's familial connections to us. When you succeed me it'll be of importance that you grow the clan's resources. To that effect, I require that you marry a suitable woman before I die." Hajime succinctly addressed several points of concern as the newly-minted heir stood in front of him. "I already have a match in mind." Kenshin stated in a mumble that Hajime could barely hear. "Is that so? Who?" The lord inquired and was skeptical of his new heir due to his lack of experience in matters of the gentry. "Ada Kyuri of the Rio clan. She's the only woman that I'll marry." Kenshin stated with conviction and stubbornness. Hajime coughed into his sleeve before rubbing his eyes in frustration. "Rio? Those lower-tier noble urchins marrying one of theirs to the heir to the Hyuga clan? And an adopted child no less. Preposterous." Hajime was clearly distasteful of the suggested match but clearly unsurprised by Kenshin's demand. He then took a moment to ponder the possibilities as he certainly recognized Ada Kyuri's famous name. "She's the only one and her family is trying to marry her off as we speak. I believe that she'll agree to me becoming a suitor." Kenshin reaffirmed his point as he stared at Hajime with intensity. "Then again, those upstarts are new money and may be able to fill our coffers again with a substantial dowry. Not to mention the wealth she's accumulating on her own." Hajime tapped his chin before eventually coming around to the idea. He realized that he needed to accommodate Kenshin as he had no other choice. "Fine, fine. But you'll be assigned an attendant who will teach you noble etiquette before you blunder in there and humiliate the clan. He will be sent to Arashigakure for your convenience." Hajime was clearly quite practically minded. Kenshin's brow could not help but furrow in confusion which only caused Hajime more anxiety. "Do you even know how courtship works in the slightest?" The lord was clearly dismissive of Kenshin's obvious lack of experience. Kenshin shook his head in response. "No, I don't. I sought Ada's counsel on the matter of my legitimacy and suggested that I could marry her. She expressed interest but then left suddenly stating that she needed time to think." Hajime grimaced after his grandson's response sank in. "Are you daft? You can't just ask a noblewoman that because it's not solely her decision. You need to be recommended and accepted by her family to qualify as a suitor at all. You have your work cut out for you as it is since you're a recently legitimized b*****d. That will be an obstacle even with your impressive accomplishments." Hajime engaged in a long-winded rant before coughing blood into cloth again. "If she's already taken with you as you say then perhaps there's a reasonable chance. This marriage would also give the Rio family a chance to enter the highest tier of nobility. However, if this match is unsuccessful then I'll assign you a bride on my own." Hajime thought little of Kenshin's emotions on the matter. When the katana was reworked to its fullest potential it had the abilities of his own weapon in addition to incredible lightning abilities. ▰ Ability Summary: Righteous Sword of the Sentinel [ Senchineru no Seigi no Ken ] | Rank E | Bloodline | Spiritual All forms of Hyuuga techniques including the gentle fist can be used through the sword for the 10 posts that this technique is active. This means that strikes involving the blade cause physical damage including stab wounds as well as seal tenketsu points and any other effects of the technique used through the sword. An additional 5 chakra can be applied to the blade to prevent it from causing physical damage from thrusting but instead seal tenketsu points and inflict pain similar to a stab wound in the area struck but slashing attacks can still cause damage. Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. The Righteous Sword of the Sentinel technique has a 10 post duration before necessitating re-activation and costs an E-Rank amount of chakra. The initial activation of this technique consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not.
Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.
