Novus was hungry.

Novus was always hungry.

Novus had a problem hunting.

The youma was massive. He liked to stay in the forest-y areas and out of the city proper, but moving around the trees was sometimes difficult for him. Being in the Rift made life easier, but also a lot more boring, so he came out as often as he could to do some proper hunting. Sometimes it was for practice, but most of the time he just had a large hole in his belly to fill that never seemed to be contented.

How was he supposed to eat enough food if the bigger prey, like the deer in the woods, could run away from him through the trees and he got stuck or had to push them down? That food was just too fast. He needed easier, slower food. The kind full of wonderful, delicious energy and tasty starseeds, as well as the meat he craved. Hunting humans, however, was very tricky business.

Senshi and Knights did not approve of youma in their city, after all.

And again, being a giant dinosaur sort of made him stick out.

Hunkered down behind a recycling bin along the road in a residential area, Novus was perfectly not hidden in any way. His butt was up high as he kept his upper body down, thick tail swinging behind him as his eyes tried to focus in the darkness. He did not have the best sight at the brightest of times, so darkness was not his friend. It was just the easiest time to get away with being out. He was staring at the front door of a house, where he was sure he had seen someone walk into not too long ago. Surely they would come back out again and he would have his meal soon, right?

In dinosaur logic, it made sense. It wasn't like it was late at night and someone getting home from work would just want to go to sleep or anything.

Novus heard the tiny voice with some difficulty, lifting his head and staring harder at the front door to the house. No, it had not moved, and he doubted the squishy pink things that lived inside were capable of throwing their voices this far. Or he would have doubted that, if he had the brain capacity to consider it. Instead, he just sat there and stared at the door for a longer than necessary time before turning his hulking head toward the actual source of the voice.

Go home? He did not have a home, really. He could stay where ever he wanted. He was a giant dinosaur, after all, and few beings could tell him to move should he sit down somewhere inconvenient.

"Kitty!"

His voice was as big as he was, echoing gracelessly down the darkened road. He bounced with unnerving grace to land behind the cat, claws digging small trenches in the pavement as he lowered his head to put his big nose close to the white fur. He tilted his head to the side a bit, so he could get a better look at the cat. His nose and curved head got in the way of seeing things clearly sometimes.

He growled lowly, blinking at the cat before another rumbling sound escaped his chest.

"Hi."

The big youma watched the cat with infinite patience, swishing his massive tail behind him and grinning an alarmingly toothy grin. He did not seem to mind how long it took the fluffy thing to relax a bit, fascinated by the way each and every piece of fur seemed to stand up on end at the same time, and then smooth itself out as the kitty calmed.

Though, it just took a light sniff for the youma to know the cat was nervous still. Fear always seemed to have a very unique scent, and it made hunting very easy sometimes. He was not hunting right now, so he did not quite understand why the kitty was so upset.

It did not occur to him that he was giant, evil looking dinosaur.

"Hungry," he replied, when asked what he was doing. He chuckled lowly, which sounded like a growl. Everything really sounded like a growl, really. "Like kitty. Hungry too?"

The dinosaur growled lowly, then looked back at the house. He had a new mission now, which was not just to eat for himself, but to get the little cute cat some food, as well. Surely he could not let that poor thing starve, right? He knew that hunger was a terrible thing, often feeling hungry for one thing or another, which sometimes made him a bit blind and angry.

Not that the same seemed to be true of the kitty, but he had a duty now to make sure that did not happen.

There were very few things Novus understood, but hunger was definitely on the list. Maybe the only thing on the list, when it came down to it.

He darted toward the house, alarmingly fast and oddly quiet for a giant monster, reaching the window that peered into the living room. He pressed his head to it, using one eye to look around the room and not seeing anyone inside. Snarling, he dug his claws into the building and climbed up to the next window, peering into that one now. This time he seemed to have success, smashing his hand through the window and grabbing on to something before dragging it back out and leaping down. He silenced it by chomping on its neck, the woman falling silent immediately, and dragged it over to Soleiyu proudly. He dropped her in front of him, tail swinging behind him like a puppy's.

"Food!"

"Lergic?"

What was a Lergic? Novus looked impossibly confused for a moment, not to mention crushingly disappointed, as he considered the small being for a long moment. Was this not a kitty, then? Well, even so, Lergics were just as cute as cats, and he liked them just as much. If not more, if they were all this fluffy.

"Pizza?" He swished his tail behind him, original meal plans all but forgotten as he stepped over the body, alive or not, and made to scoop the small animal into his clawed hands. He held them like a little basket of nightmarishly sharp knives, but was as gentle as could be to the small charge in them. He clearly had no intention of putting the woman back, not really knowing what that meant, tilting his head at the idea of eating something and it being bad. Eating was his favorite thing to do! How could he get sick from something like that?

Still, for some strange reason, he felt very guilty, and glanced at the woman in his best approximation of thoughtfully.

Novus looked as charmed as a dinosaur possibly could, holding the little cat close to his face so he could get a better look at him, though his eyes were not built for details. Which was fine, as his brain was not strong enough to hold on to too many at a time, anyway. His eyes were bright nonetheless, and his toothy mouth was hanging open in what had to be his version of a grin.

This little fluffy thing was the most wonderful delight that could have happened to him this evening. All he wanted to do was make it happy, and keep it very, very safe.

Not really understanding that the biggest threat to any small creature in the neighborhood at the moment was Novus himself.

"Never had... how hunt?" He was not sure he understood the concept of a phone, but so curious and eager that his tail was swinging like a dog's behind him. He was at least distracted from his previous hunt, walking away from the house idly while carrying Soleiyu. He would find this pizza and bring the cat one if that was what it wanted! He just didn't know where to hunt one down.

"Eat... all," Novus tried to explain, nodding his head as sagely as something with a brain as small as his could. he bumped his nose against the kitty on accident. He blinked as he watched the phone in wonder, having no idea what that thing was or how it would produce any sort of food fit enough for him or the pretty cat. The youma swished his tail behind him, his eyes rather bright and excited.

At least they were far less intense and hungry than before.

It was true that he did get to eat starseeds just as easily as pulling them by just eating the whole body, and he enjoyed the way things tasted a lot more that way. Of course, he did not know how to differentiate between what did or did not have a starseed or produced enough energy for him, so he ended up eating a lot of things just to see if they worked or at least tasted good. He found definitively that nothing green, or growing on green, ever did. It was almost always disgusting and pointless, which made sense for how easy most green things were to catch.

"Very nice," he said suddenly, his thoughts spilling out for lack of room, "never talk for so long." He lifted one claw and very, very, very carefully skritched the very top of Soleiyu's head.He mostly used the back of the tip of his claw, just in case.

Novus blinked at the little sound he heard escaping from the kitty and grinned slowly. He was very much loving it, letting out a lower rumble of his own in an effort to echo the noise. He was not sure how to purr, the sound very much coming out like a growl. Just not as angry or aggressive a growl as if he had real intention behind it. Hopefully. Maybe.

For himself, he was perfectly happy with his new tiny friend.

"So..." the big dinosaur tried to repeat what seemed like a simple enough name, but the middle part got lost in translation. "You. My name Novus."

He was not sure why he knew that, or when it had become his name. How long he had it. Where he got it. Who it was given to him by or if he always had it. He just knew that this was the one thing he had. His name. Of course he had no idea what it meant, or how odd it was for an old beast like a dinosaur to have a name that essentially meant 'new'.

"Friend Soyou. Friend of Novus."
