Davvyd has been having a strange time lately. He'd accomplished a heroic feet - saving a lovely doe in the Ruins, and there hadn't been a reward. If anything, she'd seemed ... mad. That was just not how the story was supposed to go! He'd been moping in Homewood ever since. When he'd received his gift he'd imaged others would always welcome his healings, his help. ... His heroics! He was having a hard time reconciling his experience with his expectations.
While he'd been sulking in the comfort of his home, a call had gone through Homewood. A call from Brightheart, seeking new guardians. This had perked Davvyd right up. Brightheart was an ascended vivify user, and yet seemed more focused on the dead than the living. Perhaps they were more grateful.
He pondered this other use of his gift. He been so focused on the fact he could heal other Noulicorns he'd totally overlooked a wider application for his abilities. There were many creatures on Vykeli who could possibly be helped with his gift. And then in turn those creatures could help Vykeli! Davvyd slowly started to smile. This new angle of thought opened so many possibilities!
He imagined rushing to the side of a pretty doe who's familiar needed his healing after a minor mishap. Imagine the affection the doe would feel after he mended her companion! He flicked his tail happily, pleased with this plan.
But he'd never tried to heal a familiar before. Would his gift work differently on them? What if it was much harder? He pondered what to do about that. He wouldn't want his first experience in front of some pretty doe to be an abject failure because he wasn't prepared. Davvyd didn't want to be embarrassed again.
He pondered this predicament for a moment before remembering Brightheart's call. Not only would that mean more familiars were suddenly around Homewood, if he proved worthy Brightheart might allow him to provide guardianship to one! Think of all the things he could learn from a familiar of his own! His tail swished faster.
Davvyd paced around his home. He'd made himself a comfortable home between three large trees, their boughs linked over heads to keep him snug and dry. At present his home wasn't much more than his bed and some carefully stacked herbs he'd been drying. It was a good amount of space, but was he ready to add a companion?
Certainly this familiar would need a place of their own to sleep, at the very least. His own bed was lined with soft dried leaves and grasses, and in a little wallow. It was snug and cozy. He was sure a familiar would appreciate a similar set up to sleep in. And if it wasn't the right sort of bed for whatever Brightheart managed to resurrect at least it would show he'd made a good effort.
Exiting his little home, we wandered over to where long soft grass grew. He clipped it down with his teeth, and dragged it back to the trees, a mouthful at a time. He pondered if this familiar might be useful for tasks like this too ... Perhaps this would be an excellent thing for him on many fronts. Entering the gap between the trees he surveyed the little area, trying to pick a good spot for this new bed.
He selected an area near the gap, but not so close it would be too breezy. Using his hooves he scooped a small bowl into the earth, mounding up the sides and then patting it back down. It wouldn't do if his new companion got covered in dirt each time they went to bed. Satisfied that he'd got the earth neatly packed, he carefully began laying in the grasses. Once nicely covered and arranged, Davvyd stepped and admired his handiwork. It hadn't taken him long, but it looked quite cozy.
With preparations made, he set out towards Brightheart's grove. Davvyd wasn't surprised to see several other Noulicorns heading in the same direction. Such a call attracted a lot of attention. He wondered if any others had come here based on a similar thought process. And, of course, he kept and eye out for pretty does. Perhaps he could chat with one about his plans! At long last reaching the grove, he looked around appreciatively. It was a lovely lush place.
He set his eyes upon the very pretty Brightheart. "Penna, I have heard your call." He ducked his head politely. "I believe I would make a fit guardian." He awaited the response.
