prompt
The stories spread across the lands quickly of the land-walkers who explored the grounds above. At first, the menehune were the watchers of the waters, letting others know of the movements of the Earthling and Alkidike party. But soon enough, they made way to the beaches and rivers, and soon caught sight of those that watched.
Were they friend or foe? Why were they here and what did they want? And why could they walk on land but little else?
So many questions, so many rumors, so many unknowns.
What were your character's initial thoughts when they heard about the Earthling/Alkidike visitors? Were they afraid, or did they want to be the first to meet them? This prompt takes a look at the first-observation prior to contact with the other species. Explore your character's feelings around this monumental moment in Kahikinan history.

Landwalkers... The rumors had begun only as whispers in the dark, things the adults spoke about when they thought the children weren’t listening. Then however, the first sightings began and it grew harder to hide that there was something walking above, something that was unlike any of the sea dwellers. Soon the whispers turned to gossip and that gossip turned into news that spread across the sea to all those who lived in the water. No longer was it a whisper, it was a huge monumental moment that everyone now spoke about.
Moani had never seen them for themselves and their mother kept her children even closer during these times. What if they were evil? What if they took the children away? Moani respected their mother's wishes for the time being. After all, what could a child do against such people? Even if They wanted to go out and explore and find out what was going on, they stayed behind and listened to what the people said. They wanted to learn about them, they was even curious about them but they didn’t know if they were dangerous yet.
A lot of the other children were afraid, after all it was certainly quite something to learn that there were people who could walk and live on the land. Moani wanted to know more, they wanted to know what they looked like and what kind of things they brought with them. Surely at some point someone would speak to them and find out more? But they were a curious child and whenever they asked their mother, they was dismissed and told not to worry about it. This was not a situation for children. The more Moani was told it was only for children, the more it made them want to seek out and know about these landwalkers.
They had heard such strange things though. Skin that came in all sorts of colors, which technically wasn’t anything new. The Hapuna came in such a variety of colors it was amazing to see all of them together. And while the Kahikinans had scales, some of these landwalkers instead had markings. These too came in all sorts of colors. The strangest thing Moani had heard however, was that some of them sported crystals on their bodies. Like the crystals were coming out of their very bodies. This was wild! Rocks coming out of their bodies? Moani thought it was such an interesting thing!
There had also been mention of some slightly weirder and much more menacing than the others. Apparently they all sported antennas atop their heads as well as weapons. A few who had seen them had said they had no wish to meet these ones, they were ready for combat it seemed and there was no way of telling how they would react upon seeing the Kahikinans. However, one thing that everyone seemed to be pleased about was that these land dwellers would never be able to come into the water and stay as long as the Kahikinans. They would always be safe.
That meant that there should technically be no issues with them? At least that is how Moani saw it. If they could not come onto their territory and the Kahikinans could not stay on theirs, there would be no reason to fight over anything really. Maybe even, they would make good trading companions. Who knew what kind of things they brought with them? They also all seemed to dress differently, among each other, but also didn’t sport anything that was similar to plants like the Kahikinans.
Someone had mentioned that there was one of the races that looked like they belonged in the sea among the Kahikinans. They had various shades of blue skin and some markings on their skin, but it was their ears that marked them as possibly a race that had adapted to the ground above. Moani thought that was fascinating! They wanted to meet one, they wanted to see all of these things with their own two eyes. They couldn’t wait to be old enough that their parents could no longer keep their confined to their home. Soon They would be free to do as they pleased.
Until then, Moani would listen and learn as much as they could so they could be prepared in a few years to seek them out. They'd never really had a reason to visit the land before, but this was exciting stuff. They was looking forward to their first meeting.
