Land Walkers Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7PromptIt couldn't be possible. Walkers of land, scale-less and gill-less. Covered in stones and of all sorts of colors. Bringers of creatures never seen before. Unable to venture in the waters, and unaware of your people who resided below. The stories spread across the lands quickly of the land-walkers who explored the grounds above. At first, the menehune were the watchers of the waters, letting others know of the movements of the Earthling and Alkidike party. But soon enough, they made way to the beaches and rivers, and soon caught sight of those that watched. Were they friend or foe? Why were they here and what did they want? And why could they walk on land but little else? So many questions, so many rumors, so many unknowns. What were your character's initial thoughts when they heard about the Earthling/Alkidike visitors? Were they afraid, or did they want to be the first to meet them? This prompt takes a look at the first-observation prior to contact with the other species. Explore your character's feelings around this monumental moment in Kahikinan history.

Honestly, Kaikamahine was excited at the thought of new looking people. She was so tired of all these people under the sea, she wanted to see something new, something exciting and fresh. This was exactly the kind of entertainment she was looking for! Her mother hadn’t allowed her to go out and see these land walkers, but who was she to tell Kai what to do! She did as she pleased and when her mother wasn’t looking she snuck out of the house and headed in the direction that she had heard some of them had been seen.
She didn’t know if she was headed in the right direction of course, nor had she ever stepped foot above land, but it seemed like such a good idea at that time that Kaikamahine didn't even question it. She was swimming as fast as she could, twirling as she went of course because what was the point of being a boring swimmer when one could be majestic and fabulous while swimming?

[1/7] Pello was watching with a small crowd of Hapuna, their eyes on the land-walkers in the far distance. They weren't close enough to interact, but they did see the strange colors from afar. Blobs of dark browns, bright yellows, reds, all looking similar to the reefkin. But they knew the truth. There was differences in their bodies, from the lack of gills to the large crystals coming out of their bodies. They didn't even have scales!
Pello hadn't seen one up close, but based on the gossip of the others, it seemed they had.
At least they weren't attacked.
Sighing, he shifted back and dunked his head underwater to gather his breath, cooling off his head from the sun. As he did, he caught sight of his childhood friend coming near him a mile a minute.
Oh dear, he could only imagine what this meant for the rest of his day.

[2/7] Up ahead, Kaikamahine spotted Pello. She smiled and headed straight for him, maybe he’d want to come with her!
“Pello!” She squealed as she drew closer to him. She twirled around him once before settling in front of him. “What are you doing here? Are you trying to see the Earthlings too?” Kai clapped her hands together, maybe she could get Pello to come with her. Her face lit up, oh yes! Pello was going to come with her even if she had to drag him there.
“I was going to see them, isn’t this exciting? I’ve been hearing all sorts of stories! Have you seen one yet? I haven’t, but I’m really excited.” Kai twirled on herself, her long hair following suit around her shoulders.

[2/7] Earthlings. That was an appropriate name for the earth walkers. Pello let out a watery sigh. Of course he wanted to see them, but he was also hesitant. What dangers did these strange creatures bring? Most of the land animals were dangerous, there was a reason they didn't go too far off their sandy reefs. He wasn't always one for being hesitant, but this was just a bit too much.
"Hi there, Kai." He responded with a smile once she calmed a bit down, his lanky body floating closer to where she landed, "I haven't gotten close enough, but if you poke your head above the waves you can see them in the distance...I don't think anyone has had a chance to talk to them yet..."
At least, from the news up in Menehune, none decided to interact yet. They still were waiting to see what the strangers wanted.

[3/7] “Really?!” Kaikamahine looked up and was shooting towards the surface of the water to get a better view before Pello said anything else. She popped up just enough above water for her eyes to see the figures in the distance. Then she lowered her head back in.
“Pello! They’re really there!” She couldn't believe it. Though she wanted to get a bit closer. Kai dipped into the water again and swam back to Pello. “I can’t believe they can walk on land and stay there all the time. Mom says I shouldn’t be getting too close, but I can’t wait to be older and see them. I heard they had crystals on their bodies!”

[3/7] Her energy was a bit contagious, and Pello felt any tenseness of the situation begin to brush away. It also helped that the waves were bringing in warm tides, signalling the favorite time of year for the Prentice. All of that had to be good omens, right? Pello wasn't one for worrying too long, and the only lines he had on his face were from his normal grin that easily slid in place once more.
As he watched her pop up for a glance, he moved a little closer to the surface to meet her when she swam closer.
"I told you they were there," He laughed in response, as if she didn't believe him, though he has played funny pranks before.
He hesitated, and nodded, "I heard that too, but I haven't gotten close enough to see...I've been busy with deliveries now that the caves are open..." He hesitated, before adding, "We could probably get a little closer..."

[4/7] “Oh yes Pello, just a little closer!” Kai grabbed his hands and bobbed them up and down in her excitement. She released him soon after, clapping her hands together as she swam back up. Again, she only allowed her eyes out of the water, she didn’t really want to get caught by them. What if they chased them or something! No, Kaikamahine wanted to spy on them and see what they were doing.
“This is so exciting,” she said with a large grin on her face. “Come on!” She didn’t swim as fast as she usually did this time, she wanted Pello to catch up too. “What do you think they’re doing?” She asked, eyes on the figures.

[4/7] He bobbed with her and let out a bubbly laugh, before she was gone and he was following hopelessly behind her. His longer legs allowed him to keep up easily with his childhood friend, but he resisted bobbing to the top. His hair was a bit brighter and he knew it'd be easier for them to spot him in the waters. His goal was to look but not get caught.
He kept along as they drifted closer to where the ground walkers were moving, at least last he recalled. He assumed Kai would keep a good eye out every time she popped above the waves.
"Probably trying to scope things out...if they aren't from around here and live on the land, they probably don't think to look underwater for us..."
Or at least, he hoped.

[5/7] “It doesn't look like it,” she said quietly as if they could hear them. “They seem to be much more interested in setting up some kind of settlement and keeping watch of the forest.” The thought made her giggle, they seemed completely oblivious to the fact that they ought to be keeping an eye on what was in the waters.
“I wonder if they will stay here long...” It wasn’t safe to get so close now, but at some point it would be and she was looking forward to that. “It’s all so very odd.” she commented, her eyes watching their movements with keen interest. “Do you think the adults will go meet them?”

[5/7] He nodded under the water. It sounded like they were like most of the beasts on land. They only needed the water every so often. In fact, being in the sea meant that most land walkers didn't come near them, unless they themselves were out in the sun. Pello didn't think anyone planned to be in the sun until they knew what the land walkers wanted.
"Hopefully they will settle near the marshes...I don't want to hide forever..." He responded, before shaking his head and floating to wave Kai down from the crest of the waves. He shrugged a bit, "I think they are waiting for the Menehune and Pale'iko to make a decision. There's no reason for us to go up there..."

[6/7] Reluctantly, Kai floated down after Pello.
“Well I for one want to go out and meet them. So I hope they don’t settle too far and that the Menehune and Pale'iko make their decision soon.” Because the sooner everyone accepted these people, the sooner she could go out and see what they had to offer.
“I’m sure they're going to bring a bunch of trinkets and gifts for us! You know, like in good faith.” Kai twirled around Pello as they swam away. “I don’t think mom will let me get closer to take a look.” She pouted, at least Pello had come with her. “Where are you off to now? Can I come?”

[6/7] He laughed a bit at her, of course she wanted to meet them. Kai was friendly and outgoing. Heck, even Pello wanted to meet them...but his parents' voices kept lingering in his mind about being weary of dangers. It wasn't like the cave people, these were so foreign, so unrelatable.
"If they bring trinkets, we'd probably need to give them in return...trade and all." He added thoughtfully, "I finished my work for today...so do you want to go and find some good shells? Might as well have something ready in case we meet them?"

[7/7] “Yes that’s a great idea!” They would need many things to be able to trade with these land walkers! “Shells, and maybe some pretty corals and shiny rocks? Maybe some fish too?” Food, items, trinkets... Kai was looking forward to gathering a good collection to trade. She hadn’t even thought about it before now, there were still preparations to be made!
“I also don’t have any work, we can go together! Lead the way!” Kai was excited again, she was practically bursting out of her own skin. She knew her mother would tell her patience, patience, but that was easier said than done with Kai!

[7/7] "We should go somewhere they can't find things, like one of the deeper reef pools. I'm sure there's things there they've never seen before!" He responded, excited. He loved going on a shell hunt, and with his new responsibilities he didn't get to do it as often anymore.
Reaching out, he took her hand so they could swim together, excited to be part of something new in the world of Kahikina.
