The return journey was several days of long walks under the baking sun, retracing their path through the forest of faces, over the bridge constructed by the Others, passed the massive skeletal beast where Wanderlust once camped, and, finally to the cracked edges of the barrens where the green lure of Homewood grew lush on the horizon. The Herald raced ahead to alert Homewood of their return, and a grand group of noulicorns was ready to greet them as they crossed the threshold home. Well. As most of them crossed. Before the border, Wanderlust and Isra stopped, their heads bowed together, whispering words of adoration and promises to see each other soon. Viltalta watched them with a torn expression. Isra had helped them in the caves… but he was also the start of this mess. She’d convene with the other council members. Maybe Isra’s fate would change and he would be “the traveller” no more. For now, Isra took his leave of the group and Wanderlust rejoined Viltalta as they proceeded into Homewood. Wanderlust has done their part to heal everyone’s injuries as their magic returned to them, and though they were all tired and due for a good bath, no one was left with unwanted cuts or bruises. Viltalta was most concerned about that dire rat. The party had found pups too, hadn’t they? If these creatures were people too, things were going to change in Homewood. Quote: This is an ORP epilogue to the adventure! Participation here doesn’t count toward ascension or earn 2x rp points. This acts as a regular roleplay and you’re welcome to include as many of your noulicorns as you please! The NPCs Wanderlust and Viltalta will be hanging around and available to answer any questions a noul (or rat!) might have! This ORP will close on May 4th at 10pm MST, for redemption!

Draven and Sicily had followed behind the large group as they traveled back across the barrens. It seemed that the pair were glad to be together. Talking quietly to each other. When they reached Homewood, Draven looked at the large trees as they drew high over his head. Shaking his head Draven looked over Sicily's shoulder back towards the barrens. While they needed supplies, he was itching to return to his own travels, with the added company. "Draven? You ok?" she asked tilting her head a little, the hood of her cloak over her ears. "Just thinking. After a rest here, it will be time to head out again." he said simply looking back at the dark color doe. "Head out? Don't you live in Homewood?" She asked a little confused? Though in a way she had a feeling that Draven wasn't one for settling down. Well traveling hearts would ever continue traveling she supposed. With a giggle she nudges Draven to continue on. She would just like to rest in a safe place, a place where she didn't think she would ever see the sun again. "We can talk about that later. Lets just get something to eat and rest a few days. I feel like I could eat all the greens in Homewood and still need more." Sicily said as she pranced forward leaving Draven to shake his head. "So this was the one you were hunting for. Could have said she had white on her rump and freckles." Bluebell said with a bit of a huff, her voice not that loud. "Yes well, you have half your memory of your other half missing until you see them again." He grumbled shaking a little as if to dislodge the Jack Hop before trotting after the doe. [WC: 298]

Ysalone entered Homewood toward the back of the herd, tired and worn, but thoroughly thrilled with the adventure she had had. They had been gone for quite a while and so much had happened - Roamer would be pleased to hear all about it, if he had returned already from his trip out to the bog.
Part of her couldn't believe that her first adventure out on her own had gone so swimmingly. This was what Roamer had been telling her was out there, should she go hunting for it. The world was such a big place and there were so many opportunities to get lost in it.
Before all this had happened, and before she had met her mentor, Ysalone had never once thought that so much could lie beyond Homewood. Society had taught her that everything important was here, in the heart of this lush wood, and that nothing good lay beyond its borders. All of those beliefs had been turned upside down in the past weeks. The young doe was delighted to know that they had been.
Having spent most of the return journey conversing with Keirin, Ysalone now moved to approach Wanderlust curious to hear more about the noul's experiences, harrowing as they must have been.
"Excuse me, penna," she said cheerfully, dancing up to the pale noul, who seemed like the epitome of what Ysalone thought an adventurer should be. "I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions? I'm terribly curious about what happened inside that crystal cage you were in, down in the cave. What was that? How did those beasts make that thing?"

The journey home was long but didn’t feel quite as long as when they traveled out here. This is how it usually is when one traces their path back the way they came. The group seemed to have doubled in size, now that they had Wanderlust and their party. Tempest looked over the nouls as they walked back. She was sure everyone would be happy to get back and recover from their travels before returning to their normal life or maybe something else. Tempest wasn’t sure what else was in store for her, just that she would be resting up at her parents’ home and then heading to the Grandfather Tree.
As the tree line of Homewood came into view, Tempest breathed out a sigh of relief. She had enjoyed her first big adventure but she was ready to rest. Everyone continued into Homewood but she paused, watching Wanderlust and Isra. She was glad she could help rescue both of them, a small smile appeared. Tempest trotted over to Wanderlust just as the doe, Ysalone, did. She asked questions that Tempest also had, but there was others as well. She nodded her head to both nouls.
“I too have questions. I recall someone saying that you felt studied by those beasts. What did they do to you and your party? Why did they keep you in a cage unharmed? The one attacked Vitalta and the others.” The one oddity in the group was a talking adult dire rat. Not counting the four babies found by part of the group in the early stages of their journey. Elysia had left the very colony the babies had come from. Curious that these nouls had taken them after what the adults did. She left the colony and ran into the group beyond the bizarre trees. “Glad we’re away from there,” she muttered to Wanderlust, who was kind enough to let her ride on their back. She was big enough to travel the barrens but not big enough to keep up with noulicorn legs.
Elysia began to feel tense as the Homewood tree line came into view. Despite having left her home, the colony who are still stuck in their ways, Elysia wasn’t sure how the nouls would take having her there. Dire rats and noulicorns do not get along, of course it doesn’t help that her kind attack them and have killed their young. But now her and four babies where arriving into this noulicorn home. She moved up Wanderlust’s back and sat more on their shoulders. “I’m not sure I’ll be welcomed here, Wanderlust,” she said after they said their goodbyes to Isra. She watched hesitantly as two does approached. Elysia recognized them from the cavern, they and a buck helped free them from that terrible crystal prison.WC:466

"We will make sure you're welcome here, Elysia." Wanderlust muttered to his rider as they took their leave from Isra. "It may take some time, but things have changed. Regardless, I'll make certain nothing happens to you while we're here." ------ Wanderlust pulled away from Viltalta with a polite nod as others approached them, brimming with questions. A bright smile painted their face. They'd never been so happy to see the inside of Homewood again. It would be nice to finally return to their grove and spend a few nights tucked comfortably in their log... before heading out again for their next adventure. "I love curious minds," said Wanderlust. It seemed fitting to answer Tempest's question first, to keep everything in order. "Those beasts attacked us too, unfortunately. We didn't go willingly into that cage. We had some time to examine the cave walls and the paintings, and we saw more of those crystals like in the forest of faces. I'd been collecting loose ones whenever I could find them. I don't know if any of your party attempted to take them from the trees, but..." They trailed off. Visions had plagued Wanderlust after trying to pry a crystal free from the trees. "... regardless, there were a bunch of crystals laying scattered around the lake, so I set to picking them up. And wouldn't you know it, my tampering caused them to... to activate somehow. They formed into one of those beasties and goodness it was angry. We all fought against it as best we could. It was a good thing we had the guardian with us to keep us safe! We might have defeated that one too, but others came, and we were overwhelmed." Wanderlust turned to Ysalone. "That cage was part of themselves, I believe. Not quite the same crystal, like the magic was gone from it. They didn't give us food or water, or" they laughed," air, but somehow we never went hungry in that cage. I think that was their magic too. Viltalta said we were gone for weeks! "I don't know exactly what they wanted with us. The beasts couldn't speak, at least not in any manner that we could understand. I believe they were trying to find out what we were. We saw images of things like noulicorns in the caves, and of course in the forest of faces, but... but those are older than noulicorns. I think those images depicted what came before us, and perhaps these beasts were trying to determine where we - that is, noulicorns - fit in their world. They might have thought we were a danger, but they didn't try to harm us after we were caged." They stared wistfully at the glimpse of barrens between the trees. So many questions left unanswered. "I wonder if we had been enemies before the Others, or if we were friends."

Ysalone was quiet as she pondered all that Wanderlust had said. Her gaze went alternately from the pale pink noul to the dire rat atop her withers, wondering at all the new things they had learned from this one odd trip. Everything was about to be shaken up with the discovery of the dire rats, let alone these crystal beasts. That was, of course, if nouls in Homewood actually believed it. Ysalone couldn't imagine there being much flat out disagreement, especially not when two Ascended like Wanderlust and Viltalta could vouch for it. But... she had to admit, without having seen the crystal beasts, it would be terribly difficult to believe.
"Do you think... if they were possibly trying to figure out what we are... that they would venture closer to Homewood?" she asked as the thought occurred to her. The idea that these crystal beasts might end up finding them was unsettling. But what was to stop them? Two bands of nouls had found them, after all, and what was to say that those crystal creatures couldn't travel the same distance? If they were in fact as old as they seemed... they might have the upper hand.
"I saw a vision of them too. Outside of the forest. It looked... terribly angry," she continued thoughtfully. "It felt like I was intruding. But that can't possibly be true. We're here to heal Vykeli, not destroy it." Perhaps the creatures didn't understand. Perhaps there would be a way to communicate that to them one day. That was far above Ysalone's know-how.
The doe turned to address Elysia. "I think you're quite brave for coming with us," she said happily. "Not that I think you'll have a hard time. Just that it's not easy to enter a culture that's not your own. I hope you'll feel welcome here. I suspect there's much we could learn from you."

Moon Mist was starting to wonder if the walking was ever going to end. One day blurred into the next until finally a green blur rose over the horizon. Homewood, at last. Before they crossed into the green haven, Moon Mist watched Isra and Wanderlust say good bye. It didn't quite sit right with her. Without Isra she doubted any of them would have made it back. But it didn't seem like her place to say anything. After a little more trudging, they were finally home. Moon Mist longed to return to her glade, and her comfortable bough bed and sleep for ... oh a good long while. Her companions were still milling together it seemed a bit rude to leave, so she stuck around. The little doe edged her way closer to Wanderlust. She listened as they explained their experience with the strange creatures. She certainly had a lot of questions about them too. It was interesting to hear about their time in the cage. Perhaps those creatures were also just trying to do what was right. She waited for a brief lull. "I hope you get a chance to speak to the council on Isra's behalf. Without Isra's intervention I think we all would have been lost down there." Her tail swished, she was more than a little uncomfortable at having spoken up. wc: 224

"Oh, that's true, isn't it?" Ysalone said, wide-eyed. The doe scooted over to make room for Moon Mist in the little semi-circle they'd formed around Wanderlust, nodding as the other doe spoke. She hadn't been there to see Isra's contribution to the fight against the crystal beast, but everything she had seen of him on the journey - from when they'd first pulled him up from the gorge to now, splitting ways with him - Ysalone had seen nothing of the heartless traitor Viltalta had seemed to believe him to be.
"He seems like quite the sweet noulicorn, but Viltalta - and I'm guessing others - seem to believe otherwise," she added, mulling it over. Perhaps it was all just a misunderstanding. She hoped that somehow, Isra's name might be cleared up so he might return to society, should he wish to. "I don't think we would have made it across the bridge in the first place, if it wasn't for his help." She wouldn't have had the faintest idea of how to operate such a contraption, left to her own devices.
"You two seemed close, Penna," she added. "What is he really like?"

Tempest pondered upon all that Wanderlust had said and continued listening to the conversation as it progressed. Hearing that Wanderlust had also had the vision in the forest of faces, she shivered and looked up. “I experienced the vision as well. While I loved seeing a healthy and lush Vykeli, that horned lizard was terrifying. But I feel inspired to do what I can to heal our world regardless. It doesn’t seem to be without it’s dangers though.” Tempest noticed the grey and white doe inching closer and moved aside for her. She then took notice of the dire rat, the one from the cage in the cavern, it seemed she was trying to not be in anyone direct line of sight.
“Oh, hello,” she said to the dire rat. “It’s nice to see you again. I’m Tempest. Welcome to Homewood.” Tempest smiled brightly at the dire rat. “What’s your name?”________________________ Elysia had been quietly watching the does that had all approached Wanderlust and listened to their questions. She was thankful to have a wonderful new friend who would keep her safe in this new world. Well, new to her. Elysia didn’t have much experience with nouls, having been trapped with six for quite some time allowed her to get to know them and understand them a bit better. But here she was, now in their homeland and there was many of them. Sure, she was brave for coming with them, she didn’t really have anywhere else to go from that point on. It’ll be a whole new adventure just exploring Homewood and meeting the nouls here.
“Thank you. I’m sure I will have as much to learn from you and your kind as well. This is new for all of us. I guess I’m a pioneer now,” Elysia replied to Ysalone with a wry smile.
The purple doe who seemed pretty high strung at times greeted her and she nodded back. “Yes, hello again. I’m Elysia,” she replied to Tempest but introduced herself to all the does. “I am a dire rat from a colony in the barrens. I was kinda the outcast in my colony as I wasn’t interested in attacking nouls but also I’m a bit more progressive. I left before they had the opportunity to exile me, so I chose to follow Wanderlust’s party.”WC:388 Total: 854

Draven and Sicily finally did catch up to the rest of the party. Seems they were all asking questions of the Vivify Ascended, Wanderlust. The thought of the beasts that were in that cave made her shiver. Shaking her head she leaned against Draven for a moment before pressing forward. He was not really going to gather closer to the rest.. He was going to leave that to her. She was the social one, he was happier watching from afar and only growing closer if something should go south. Sicily stepped over to be closer to Wanderlust, they had been trapped in that crystal cage for weeks together. While there wasn't much they could have done to get out, there was a lot of talk to keep from going stir crazy.. "I think it was ancient Magic, perhaps much older then what we know of. Magic that is even older then the Grandfather tree." While this was already common to know, it was still something to say. "I believe it was that magic, the crystals of the cage might not have held any. That water did not feel like any other water in this land. Something untouched was there." Sicily tilted her head to one side as if in thought. She was trying to really recount for the time that they were all stuck. The beasts had attacked, while none were really injured, they were forced into that cage. Shaking her head again she looked at the others, Everyone had been through a lot. Even those that had come to rescue them. Hopefully all would now get a good rest, she and Draven were in for a bit of a vacation or something... WC: 283

"I had a similar vision, with the same feeling. Maybe our ancestors were not as kind to Vykeli as we are? Or maybe we were intruding on sacred territory," Wanderlust said to Ysalone. They wouldn't find out unless they returned to those caves. The thought of those crystal beasts following them back to Homewood was a terrible one, but tracks were quickly lost in the desert. With any luck, they wouldn't be able to find them out here, but Wanderlust wouldn't discount the possibility. "I think we're safe for now, but it's certainly something the council needs to discuss. Viltalta might have plans to help the security of Homewood." Moon Mist's mention of Isra softened their expression to a gentle, glassy smile. "I certainly will be, although I've tried before with no luck. Now that Viltalta has seen his true character, I may have an ally in my fight for him." They sighed wistfully. "Isra has always been well-meaning and full of love for those who allow him to express it. Do you know why he was exiled?" They didn't wait for a reply, trusting curiosity to be on their side. "Isra heard from some nomadic noulicorns of another colony built by the Others, apparently quite far from here. He wanted to lead an expedition to find it and spoke to the council to get a proper team together. The council denied him. There was no proof this place existed, and even if it did, and the council believes it best to stay far away from things created by the Others. But Isra gathered a team and went anyway, without their blessing. They were gone for quite a long time, and most of us assumed the barrens had eaten them. A terrible thing, to lose so many that way. "One day, months after they left, Isra returned... with none of his party. He said he'd killed them, all of them, all the nouls that came with him." Wanderlust's face fell, their ears flicking back, tail twitching uncomfortably. "His guilt is horrible and he accepted his banishment without argument. He's never spoken to me about what happened, but I don't believe he killed them. He might believe he got them killed for leading them to such a dangerous place, but he doesn't have murder in his heart. I think Viltalta sees that now, but Isra may be the most difficult to convince." Wanderlust smiled broadly as Sicily approached, her handsome stag companion in tow. "I believe you're correct. Those things in that cave are ancient. I'm eager to learn everything we can about the crystals we brought back to Homewood."

As Ysalone fell silent, the little navigator from Wanderlust's team stepped over to join them. Despite the long days of travel and the fatigue that had settled after weeks of captivity, the doe had a contented smile on her face, happy just to be free in the company of all her newly made friends. "I still can't believe all the things we've found," she said with a blissful sigh. "My father and I will have to update all our maps with these new discoveries. And... perhaps if you ever gather a party to go back, Wanderlust, I may come with you."It wasn't just about the new landmarks, after all. The journey they had just been on was quite beyond anything even Arslanian could have dreamed off. What stories would come out of it! What more could they learn that would become history and lore in Homewood, passed from generation to generation in the form of tales and songs. The doe could think of nothing more grand than to be a part of all of that. There would be, it seemed, no rest for Arslanian until after she had put everything they'd found down on paper. The maps were best made when the memories were fresh, and exhaustion would need to wait.

Sicily smiled at Wanderlust. Seemed that they agreed with her and she too was interested in these crystals. It seemed that Draven had one in his gear, Bluebell had said so. She had picked one up while getting things to help keep him from bleeding to death. Which she was thankful, she didn't want to find him and lose him for good. "I too am interested in these crystals. Draven and I are thinking of traveling to other, farther places in search of answers." She glanced at the buck whom was standing off to one side chattering with his Jack Hop companion. "In no way are we going back near that cave." not without proper means at least. Sicily glanced at the navigator whom had been with them in the caves. The young doe was brilliant with finding the way through the many means that were available. With the mentions of updating maps with information, it seemed like an idea, since they were going to be away from Homewood more then in it. "Aeslanian, may I be so bold as to request a map from you before we leave?" Sicily asked kindly, knowing that every little bit of help would be useful. "I can even help with making future updates to the places we happen to see and bring them back."To this thought, she looked back to Wanderlust, giving them a bit of a friendly nuzzle, one that wouldn't get her love jealous. "With that being said. Dear Wanderlust, it was a great joy traveling with you, even if the cage wasn't the most exciting bit." She giggled slightly, "I am afraid that my journeys are taking me in a different direction. But should the time come to call the team together again, just know that Draven and myself will always come. No matter how far away we happen to be." WC: 312

Her thoughts drifted to Isra's dilemma. What a journey he must have endured, to return with none of his party in tow. She could imagine the grief and the guilt that must plague him if he thought himself responsible for the deaths of so many. That he had accepted his exile without protest seemed right, but also not. Noulicorns weren't meant to live on their own, and Isra had proven himself terribly helpful and kind... Her thoughts broke off as a familiar black doe addressed her. "Sicily," Arslanian said with a gentle smile as she turned to the black doe. She had grown not only used to, but fond of, the company of this small group. The thought of going their separate ways once they returned to Homewood left a small ache in her heart. It would be like a withdrawal of sorts, to go so suddenly without the constant company of her friends. "You can request any map of mine anytime, my dear friend. So long as you promise to share your stories and discoveries whenever you return."She looked at Sicily fondly, thinking back to their journey's start, when they had stumbled across the doe looking quite the worse for wear out in the Barrens. Who would have thought that a taxing journey like theirs would help the black doe more than hurt? And yet, Sicily had proven to be an integral part of their team on this most spectacular of adventures. "I am ever so glad that we found you when we did, Sicily," the little doe added, sounding every bit as content as she had earlier. It was a bittersweet farewell to them all, but Arslanian suspected they would all reunite soon in Homewood. "A grand adventure later, I'm happy to see you've found your love." And that he had come all this way and found her, in return. The whole way back, Arslanian had been pondering that very point - or at least, one that was closely related. There was a well of wonder and gratitude building within her for the group that had trekked all the way out to the crystal cave in search of Wanderlust's party. As the little doe glanced about, gaze landing on each noulicorn in turn, she couldn't help but marvel at the tenacity of them as a whole. So many of them young like herself, a few without Gifts yet, even. They hadn't thought to remain safe and unfettered in Homewood like they so easily could have done. Instead, they had thrown themselves into a journey likely more harrowing than any would have expected. Truly, she thought, these were creatures worthy of the highest commendations. It occurred to her that she had perhaps not properly expressed how thankful she was to the lot of them for having come out and rescued them. All of them had been strangers when they'd first appeared at the cave, and now, the navigator thought, they were all friends. Arslanian turned to the other noulicorns in the group, the ones who had come out in search of their party, had risked life and limb to help see them to safety, and without whom she wasn't sure any of them would still be alive. "And all of you," she said gently, addressing the ones who had gathered around Wanderlust as well. "Please, accept my thanks, if I haven't said it already. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say how grateful I am that you all took on the risk to come after us. If ever I can be of help to you, don't hesitate to ask."

Sicily turned back to Arslanian as she said that Sicily could request an map that she had. This made the black doe happy and was eager to help Arslanian uncover more in the barrens and many other sections of their world. There were so many different places that have been left unexplored. There were still many places on the map that were left blank. "Oh of course. When we visit to restock supplies we'll have to get together and have a does day out." Sicily smiled as her ears twitched slightly. "I am so happy to have met you all. All the adventure we had traveling to the caves and back. I am sure we all will run into each other now and again until the next adventure calls to us."She had a feeling that they all would come together again. The call for adventure was strong with the group and if Wanderlust wanted to seek out something. They would be the first to call. Next time, Sicily would be able to help better, with whatever gift the Great tree happened to see befitting for her. As it stood, she was happy to be back with the one that was lost and more adventures were to be had. "Hey, Draven wants to move out soon, he needs to find a Botanic to get more herbs from. Seems this trip used up what supply had." pipped a Jackhop whom has come over from where Draven had been standing. "Though he says he can go deal with that and you can hang here. He will return before the night comes."Sicily glanced down at the Jack Hop before looking back at Draven. She gave a small nod, she wanted to chat with her friends a little longer. If she knew the feeling that was budding inside, they weren't going to hang around Homewood any longer then needed. Draven's traveler's soul called to her own and the other way around. "Tell him I will be here when he returns. I don't plan on leaving without him. Again." she told Bluebell as the Jack Hop headed back to Draven and the two stepped away to get herb supplies. With three of them now, he would need a larger supply then normal... WC: 378
