Monster Hunter Blurred Vision, feeling quite sure of himself after the last few moons spent toiling under Kale Greenleaf’s tutelage, was now on his way through the forest, in search of a pack of which he’d heard. Well, he’d heard of many packs - groups of elves and bloodthirsty moon worshippers - there were quite a few out there, after all. But The Swiftfell, a semi-nocturnal group of wolves living in harmony, called to Vision. He wasn’t sure why - maybe it was the normalcy after a very chaotic and surreal few moons - but either way, he was determined to track them down.

Lifting his nose to the air, he drank in the scent of a new group of wolves he’d yet to encounter. Could this be them? He glanced around, but saw nothing of note, and continued deeper into the forest. On high alert, Vision almost laughed at himself. After spending his time tracking down only the biggest and the baddest of the monsters of Kells, it seemed strange to be concerned about his own safety in the midst of the forest. Sure, it was getting dark, but he was a total badass now. He could take whatever dangers lay ahead.

And dangers, there were - his head snapped up again, ears swivelling at the sound of a twig break. What was out there?

The she-wolf had been following this unknown male for some time, watching as he gradually grew closer to the edge of the territory. As he was drawing nearer and nearer, she'd had been playing a game she had taken up when on patrol duty. She made up identities for whoever she was following—basing her imagination on their stride, manners, expressions. This one was interesting.

This male... she named him... Freckles, for the markings that splattered his body. He was a... arrogant, egotistical man. He often would travel into different lands, flirt with all the females, compete with all the males, until he worn out his welcome. Or rather, until he grew bored. He's now coming from a pack which he had courted a female, promised to another, which caused a particular rift in the female dynamics.

And with that, the male drew too close.

Fernwood jumped from a fallen log, the darkness of the tree canopy keeping her mostly hidden from the glow of the moon. "You're in Swiftfell territory. State your business." She wasn't aggressive, necessarily, but made it clear she was not interested in a stroll under the moonlight.

Blurred Vision whipped his head, followed by his body, around to see a bold, brown she-wolf standing upon a log looking down upon him and speaking sternly. When he managed to process her words (being caught off-guard made him falter), he felt a smile spread its way across his face.”I’ve found you,” he said without thinking.

Shaking his head, Blurred Vision laughed. “I mean, I-” What did he mean?

I’ve been looking for The Swiftfell. I’ve heard stories of the pack, and I… well, I’m a rogue, and I… don’t want to be? I don’t know what the initiation process looks when one joins a pack, but I’m guessing finding a pack member and telling them of your intent is a good start?” He could feel himself babbling, but ignored it and cocked his head questioningly anyway, awaiting a response from the female whose eyes, he now noticed, nearly mimicked his own in coloration. Peculiar.

At the mention of 'found you' her ears flipped back, affronted, returning to their alert posture when he continued. Wary, she debated whether or not to sound the call of an intruder. Hesitating, Fernwood watched the male stumble through his words and felt a tug of affection in her chest. He didn't appear hostile... but she would be a fool if she let her guard down just because she thought a stranger was kind of... cute? What a stupid thought, she chastised herself.

Oh. Join the pack? That was a first for her.

At a loss of words, she stumbled. "I... ahm.. hm." This was above her pay grade. Her eyebrows creased and sat her rump down, watching the male curiously. Giving our general known information wouldn't hurt, surely? "You will need to speak to our alpha if you wish to join Swiftfell."

Strictly out of curiosity and under no true authority of her own, she asked with the voice of the Point. "Why do you seek to join the Swiftfell?" She puffed out of her chest and looked down her nose at the male, attempting to appear more powerful than she really was. He didn't know the difference, at least.

The female opposite him seemed to have words fail her, before she sat down on her haunches and eyed him. Of course - speaking to the alpha sounded perfectly reasonable. A little intimidating, but if he wanted to be a part of the pack, who better to get to know?

Vision nodded in response.

Then, with an awfully authoritative tone, the pretty she-wolf spoke once more: this time, with an inquiry as to why he wanted to join. What a great question! Involuntarily, a smile spread across his lips. "I've lived a full life. As full as one can - I have earned the rare title of Monster Hunter and while seeking out extraordinary creatures was... well, it was thrilling. But the entire time, I was just... lonely. Realizing how alone I really was." That sounded like an adequate answer, but then he realized he wasn't explaining why this pack in particular. "I've always preferred living by way of the evening and night light, and I've just... in all my adventures, I've never heard a single thing bad thing about the pack. Only good." Vision was grinning toothily now, satisfied with himself.

"What about you? Did you join, or were you born here?"

The she wolf had been nodding allowing casually, intrigued by this mysterious stranger—then he truly caught her attention. "Whoa, you're a monster hunter?" A brief pause as she realized she didn't know what that was. "What's that?" she asked lamely, but with all the enthusiasm she felt in the idea of someone hunting down monsters. She's a protector, of course hunting a monster would be right up her alley, though she'd never heard it before.

The rest she had to say meant little her. Duh, Swiftfell was an amazing home. Who else could think differently? Stating the obvious, much.

Realizing he'd asked her a question, she began, a little more shyly. "Oh. Yes, I was born here, along with my siblings. Its been our home forever, despite the pack historically only recently arrived in this place. It's said we followed the migration of the swift birds from our original home territory to here." She shrugged, not knowing if it were true but rather interesting all the same.

Blurred Vision grinned once more, glad his little admission had stopped her in his tracks. He really hadn't gotten to pull that out yet; since his adventures with the big, bad berserker legend known as Kale Greenleaf, he'd been mostly on his own. Not much of a change from his average day.

"It means I partnered with the last known monster hunter to find evidence of creatures so fantastical you can't even imagine them. I'd love to tell you more, but what was that you were saying about needing to meet the alpha?"

His ears perked up at the mention of siblings. It was strange, but in all the times he'd imagined the pack, it was hard to picture it as... tangible. But now that it was here, in front of him - a wolf on border patrol, speaking of the family she has - that it struck him that this was real. He was about to settle down, and hopefully, in the future, start a family of his own. Vision founded himself at peace with the idea. He'd barely had a family to begin with, and as soon as he and his siblings grew big enough they set out on their own. It would be nice to plant roots.

'Well, if your siblings are half as pretty as you are, I have quite the treat ahead of me." He wanted to say it, but he wasn't sure she was the type who would be receptive. Truly, he imagined her bristling at that level of flirtation. Anyway, he tucked the line away for future use. "That's neat - I had heard of the deep connections to the birds of forest, but I didn't know all of that." Nodding, he hoped he expressed some level of appreciation for her candor.

"So, anyway, about this alpha..." A sly smile shot in her direction, along with a friendly but pointed gaze.

'Fantastical' brought her up short. That seemed... a little too close to the word magical and put her on her guard. It was well known that the Swiftfell were very intolerant when it comes to anything spiritual, or whatever you wanted to call it. They absolutely refused to cohabitate with seers—which personally, Fernwood didn't believe in their powers anyway—but did this guy come from somewhere that brought with him these, these mystical ideas? And now he wanted to see the Alpha? She'd never had been in the situation of meeting a stranger on patrol who sought an audience with Thrush.

These thoughts cascaded through Fernwood's brain rapidly, mostly coming to her like a lightning strike in her gut. She would need to be speak to Thrush before presenting this wolf to him for examination, in private of course. The wolf seemed like a nice fellow, but all the same... it was better to be sure. It would be her doing that brought him into the Swiftfell fold.

Licking her lips, she nodded and smiled, having made the decisions she needed to. "He should be available, if you would follow me..." She forgot to ask his name.
