[[ Due to Kes being gungho about doing a story, should have gotten things cleared up with Flourish staff. This story is on temp hold until I can fix it to not conflict with upcoming things for May. ^^ Sorry for the inconvenience

Reopening this and altering the story as we progress through it. ]]

User Image Ah, Homewood. The safest place a Noul could live within. Only thing is... It wasn't always this peaceful. Oh no, there were turbulent times, but these were things of stories and one buck was going to tell one of those today. The aroma of sage and rosemary wafted through the air around where the darker chestnut buck sat. He had placed himself atop a flat rock so that he could be heard by all that happened to stop by and listened. While he had in mind just to tell the foals of Homewood this story. But he was always delighted to see adults young and old stop.

These stories were for everyone, not all had to believe in them, but they were the tales he had grown up with. Tales his father was told by his father and so on down the generations. It was said that Oriole's line was one of the oldest, if this was true or not he could never tell. Sitting there with two incense sticks smoking at each end of his platform. Oriole awaited for a large enough audience to start his tale. His eyes were at the moment closed, but his ears twitched the tell tale signs that he was listening.

At his hooves laid a cluster of smoothed stones, Lapis Lazuli was in the center, A blood stone at the beginning of the line of five. A piece of flat obsidian rested at the end of the five stones, the last two, Red Jasper and Serpantine rested on each side of the Lapis. Soon, very soon. It would begin..

Growing up listening to the tales of storytellers was a lovely, nostalgic memory that Cinder was happy to have. She remembered scampering along through the Homewood, followed by her parents or a nanny, weaving through the legs of unsuspecting adults to get into the front row. Even setting up for a spot during story time could be turned into a competition when it came to Cinder, and as a foal, she had taken great pride in knowing that she'd secured a front row seat every time she went to listen.

She was older now and more mature. Knowing that young foals were the ones who needed to be up front so they could see everything, Cinder settled for a seat near the front, close enough to hear but far away enough to be unobtrusive. This was mostly just and exercise in nostalgia, after all. She didn't need to get as engrossed as she had when she was a child.

The doe settled herself down on the grass, tucking her legs underneath her to get comfortable. She glanced curiously at the stones that the storyteller was setting out in front of him, counting the five stones and wondering what the significance might be.

Njeri loved a good story, especially one told by a great storyteller, and when he'd caught word of a handsome buck willing to spin tales for young and old alike, they couldn't resist the temptation to join. Njeri trotted languidly through the wood with Oreme at their side, her ears twitching and twisted at every twig creak or leaf squeak. Always attentive. She'd complained about wasting their day listening to stories, Njeri had so much work to do, spending the afternoon dozing to tales was going to set them back.

"Legends are important," Njeri answered her, as they neared the large, flat rock and the small group of noulicorns clustered around it. "They remind us of our history, it's the only way we can prevent repeating past mistakes."

"You could visit a historian," Oreme replied curtly. "And get proper facts instead of mythological hogwash."

Njeri laughed and nuzzled the top of her head, sending her hair every which way. Oreme glared at them as they set to grooming it back down to a respectable smoothness.

"It's seem we're one of the first here," said Njeri. The children hadn't arrived yet, but they spotted the chestnut buck preparing for his audience, a group of smooth stones at his hooves. And, waiting at the bottom, a familiar sight. Njeri had met this doe before, hadn't they?

Njeri approached with a friendly smile and a gently swishing tail. "Good afternoon! I hope we're not late for the story."

User ImageDryxel had watched over Twix for so long but I was still a shook to see this young buck before him. It was crazy to Dryxel that he was not only an adopted father but also a blood father. As the walked to the meeting place of the storyteller, Dryxel's mind continued to wander about time.

Not far behind him trail the beautiful foal girl him and the wonderful Tempest had made. She was a hoof-ful but she also behaved with one look for him or her mother. Behind Mahpiya was Karry who still watched over Twix with her mother hen eye but as close as Twix was to Mahpiya, Karry had taken the little foal under her wing as well. Twix was the last in the line, He was a young buck now and needed to start the role of protector. And there was no better place to do that then in the Homewoods where Dryxel could still keep them all save.

"Da? Where are we going again?" Mahpiya had asked this same question since living the den this morning. Dryxel, thank the Great Tree, had a lot of passions though and simply answers "There is a Storyteller here in the Homewood that we are going to lesson to." Dryxel could see his daughter rolling her eyes but she would love it once the story started he was sure. "And why cant you stay Da?" she asked yet again. It was not that he did not want to stay but more that he had to do his patrolling for the day. He would leave Twix with her though so he knew she would be just fine. "Have to patrol today sweet one." She did not ask again since the answer had not changed she knew he father would not give into her antics' today.

As the arrive at the place, Dryxel searches the group to see who else might have come. Satisficed with the safety of the group, He says his good byes to Twix, Karry, and lastly his little girl. "You be good now and lesion to the storyteller. I want you to tell me all about the story when I come to get you." Nuzzling her head, Dryxel turns to Twix and nods no words are need between the two and he leaves.

Mahpiya nods to her father and turns a great big smile on to her brother, Twix. She really loved her older sibling and even though she had a mischievous bone she would be good for him like she did for her father. "Come one lets go find the best spot." She says as she skips off to the front of the small group. Circling a couple of time she finally lays down in the spot she thought was best. Twix quietly takes a lay down just behind her. It was a great vantage point to see all the group and storyteller all in one. Karry is the last to find a place but only because she wanted to wait for Mahpiya to settled down before curling up at the front of her chest.

Once everyone is settled they all wait in excited silence for the story to begin.

Cordelia walk alongside Tempest’s mother with Bipin in tow. Cordy was much taller than Bipin and nearing full grown. Her leggy baby brother had no issues keeping up though, he had Tempest’s legs. Today, Tempest was off on a short journey outside Homewood and her mother was watching over Cordy and Bipin. Today there was a storyteller and so grandmother was taking Cordy and Bipin to listen. Cordy couldn’t wait, she wanted to learn more about the rich world the nouls live in and their history too. Bipin didn’t seem like he was in much hurry to get there and was content to amble by her side.

When they arrived, grandmother dropped them off so she could run errands, telling Cordy to watch out for her baby brother. She nodded and watched grandmother trot off before turning to face the storyteller and the small group that was developing. Her ears flicked forward as she spotted Twix. Wow, he’d grown up quite a bit since she last saw him. Baby sis Mahpiya was here too along with the foals’ father Dryxel. Cordy nudged Bipin so he would follow her and stepped over to them.

“Hello Dryxel, Twix, Mahpiya,” Cordy greeted them. “I see we all had the same idea today.”

Bipin looked up and grinned, “Hi father, hi Mahpi, hi big bro Twix.”

Cordy looked up at Twix and smiled. “Been a while.”

Haniel raced ahead of his poor nanny towards the large group. He was so excited that there was a storyteller here today he couldn’t help but run most of the way. He wanted the best seat in the house, even if it meant stepping over others and nudging some out of the way. Sometimes he didn’t quite get how rude he could be and rather entitled too. He found where he wanted to be and settled down quickly, looking intently up at the big buck on the rock.

User Image Oriole's ears twitched as the sounds of others gathered around his perch. The incense smoke snaked its way up around him as he breathed it in. Cracking open an almond colored eye he looked out over those that had gathered. Some young, some old and some in between. A grin passed over his face as he completely opened his eyes to address his audience.

"I welcome you all this day to come and hear my story. This is an old one, passed down through my family from past my grandfather's time." he began, his tail flicking slightly behind him. "You are welcome to asked questions, but I do ask you to be respectful of those also listening. Also be respectful of me and this story."

He paused once more for a hush in the crowd. Taking a breath, Oriole closed his eyes once again as he listened to the silence. The hushed breaths of those around him. A focus on the Red Jasper stone at his hooves, Oriole felt himself take root. Not in the literal sense, but he felt one with the stone beneath him. Taking that first breath in what seemed like ages, he began.

"A long time ago, long before the first Noulicorns ever stepped hoof on Vykeli. These Others wreaked havoc over her, taking what they thought valuable, before they vanished back to the stars from whence they came. Vykeli was left a barren wasteland, her pain rolled over the surface in great quakes and eruptions of mountains." He paused to give the crowd a glance. "Death was everywhere, places that we know today as the Barrens and Blackbriar Bog. But sickness spread far past the distant mountains that surround our lush home. For in these times, not even Homewood existed, no trees grew or air stirred. Black clouds of ash blanketed the skies and rained down water that withered what life struggled to thrive."

The families and foals started to trickle in. She watched as two bucks joined the group with a little lilac striped filly, followed by another gaggle of foals. They all seemed to know each other, greeting the others like family.

Cinder watched them from where she sat, wondering what it would have been like to have a bunch of siblings. Her recent conversation with Kachina had got her thinking. Maybe it wouldn't have been as bad as she'd thought. These little ones all seemed to get along.

Then she noticed Haniel, the little foal she'd run into at the border of Homewood. She watched as he clambered up to the front, picking out the best seat in the house just like she would have done as a child. The doe smiled to herself. Precious.

And then the story began. Cinder tucked her legs under her, eager to listen. The storyteller painted a vivid picture. She could see it, the destruction and decay spreading out across the world. What a shame

Njeri watched with perked ears and growing excitement as other noulicorns gathered around the storyteller, bringing with them gaggles of young foals unsteady on their fresh legs. Njeri offered them each a bright smile and a nod, but quickly turned their attention back to the brindle noulicorn. They were eager as ever to hear the tale, and Oreme - despite her protests - was sitting quietly between Njeri's knees, just as attentive. Although she tried to hide it behind a flick of her ear and some careful grooming.

Njeri was held rapt by Oriole's words. Their parents had told them many stories about Vykeli before the noulicorns came, how everything was dust and decay like the barrens. Where once there was no Homewood, no place of refuge for any living soul to reside. The images had given Njeri chills then, and Oriole's careful words had googepimples rising on Njeri's flesh once more.

User ImageMahpiya spotted her brother with a excitement and then she saw Cordy. "Hello come sit with me." She had totally forgot her earlier sadness of her Da not staying and was now skipping around at the sight of her other siblings. Dryxel kindly and warmly nodded to his son and other daughter. "Well met children." Turning back to Twix he added "I am off now what over your siblings." Twix nodded and grinned knowing full well this group would be just fine. "See you after the story." Dryxel promised then walked away.

Karry was the first to settle into her spot stirring the dust up a little to make a cool spot in the ground for herself. She watched the group of kiddos with a motherly eye though. Then the rest followed and settled in next to her. Twix took note of the look Cordy gave him. He had grown a lot since the last they had seen each other. "Yes yes it has and i have finally grown into my hoofs." He smiled in triumph and pride. "You will get there soon enough though Cordy." He grinned at her is a small but friendly teasing her way but that's what brothers are for.

As the story teller opened his eyes the group of siblings quieted down and watched with aww and wonder. They all love a story and though Dryxel was not that great at telling them he did use them for teaching reasons. Mahpiya watched the tell with many thoughts running through her mind. One how cute the teller was, Two how interesting the story was. And many many more, it was a wonder she heard anything at all but she some how did.
