Cinder felt a sense of exhilaration that radiated from the depths of her bones. It felt like her entire being was trapped in a fount of excitement, and for the first time in her still relatively short life, the doe felt awfully alive. This was it. She had dreamed of this day for so long, ever since childhood. It wasn't that this day, in particular, was any sort of exceptional achievement. No, this was a day that countless noulicorns experienced. Getting a gift from the Grandfather Tree was but a rite of passage, proof that she had finally joined the ranks of adults all helping to heal the world. That in itself wasn't that special. But the implications certainly were. For Cinder, this day was the opening of a gate that had barred her from her dreams all her life. Finally, she felt free, released from the prison of ineptitude that had been her childhood. Today was the first day of a long uphill climb toward Ascendancy, and receiving her first gift signified the start of it all. Everything would be different now. Her dreams of earning her own set of wings was this much closer. Cinder skipped through the Homewood, humming a quick tune, holding herself in as poised a way she could as she near one of the watering holes. She was an adult now. She had to act it. wc 232 OneWintersNite I'm imagining this as right after both of their Grandfather Tree quests. They seem like they're kind of at similar phases of life!

Kachina was on cloud nine as she danced her way back to the homewoods. The Barrens had been blazing hot as the thermals cared Kachina this way and that in her blissful dance. She was now an adult. Not that she had not been adult like for most of her short life but now it was in bark so to speak. The wind died down as she entered the Homewood. The air was cool and inviting as walked a path she had walked for many years. But it all felt different, it was like every shift of the world was a new a wonderful opportunity for the healing and growth. This was all so new to Kachina, she had a closeness to nature but this was different. It was like the world around her hummed with possibilities. The breeze blows through the trees and Kachina closes her eyes and begins to dance again. Kachina does not get far though as she crashes right into the humming that had started the dancing. *BAM* "Oh my Great Tree." Kachina cries as she lands in a heap. "I am soooooo soooooo sorry." Shock at what she had done washes over her and the embarrassment of not paying attention. Jumping up she bends down to try and help the noul she so rudely plowed down. "Here can I help. I was dancing with my eyes closed..." she tried to explain in a rush or breath and helping. "I am sorry." Kachina waits for the poor noul to reply before starting her apologies again, hopping the noul is not hurt. wc:265

One minute, she was humming away, completely immersed in her own little world to excitement and joy. The next, she had been bumped. The unexpected collision sent Cinder toppling off her feet, and before she knew it, she had landed in a tangle of limbs with the world above her head. "Oooof..." she said slowly, disentangling herself from her own legs. "That was a surprise."The doe managed to get her feet beneath her as she peered about for the source of the collision. Her amber eyes landed on another doe, similar in age to Cinder herself, looking quite distressed. She coughed out a laugh and picked herself up, shock beginning to dissipate as she took in her new companion. Cinder had been ready to fight for a brief second, ready to give the intruder a tongue lashing, but seeing this new doe and her obvious contrition made all her feisty anger vanish like smoke. "Don't worry about it," she reassured the other doe once she'd stood up again. "You didn't do it on purpose! What were you dancing to?"sc 232 + 180 = 412

Kachina still could not believe she had run right into another noul. And the noul was handling the knock down so well which was very unexpected. "I truly am sorry." Kachina said one more time see that the noul was ok after all. Closing her eyes she let the breezes swirl though her main. "I was dancing to a wonderful hum and the breeze of the wind was guiding my feet." Opening her eyes again she felt the need to introduce herself "My name is Kachina by the way. I hope you are ok?" she voiced in concern over the doe she had bumped to the ground. "I am just back form my Grandfather Tree Quest and was heading for the river when the wind started humming and the spirit within me needed to dance." Kachina really felt bad she went on to explain everything. "Have you been to see the Great Tree?" she asked in curiosity since the doe before her looked to be about the same age as herself. wc:171

The expression on Cinder's face brightened as Kachina spoke, and before long any possible insult that could have lingered from the bump had evaporated. The bay doe's experiences - and current mood - seemed to match Cinder's own so perfectly that it was hard not to feel her own excitement amplified. "My humming started your dance?" she said, thrilled to know that she had had such a positive impact on the other noul, who seemed like something of a free spirit. "Isn't that lovely."Cinder herself wasn't necessarily prone to whimsy, but she did have very strong and often sudden desires. It wasn't quite the same as being free-spirited, but she could understand a bit of it - or at least, thought she could. "My name is Cinder. What a coincidence, I've also just come from the Grandfather Tree!" Her ears perked and she watched Kachina expectantly. "What did you think of it all?"wc 232 + 180 + 151 = 563

Kachina giggled at her own silliness "Yes I believe it was your humming that sent my hoofs in motion not that I think on it." It was a wonderful sound and the wind always carried her way, the two together and she lost herself completely. "Cinder that is very pretty name." Kachina had not heard a name like that before but loved it instantly. "You have how wonderful. What did the Great Tree gift you with?" she asked in sheer bliss at the idea that they might have walked on the same wind path but only moments form each other. Think on what the experience was for her she really had no idea how to put it to words. But Cinder had asked her so she would try. "It was like a long walk in a peaceful meadow of the Homewood. A place were the breeze cares the smell of warm lavender and wild flowers. For a moment in the confusion of it all it feels like the wind might push you over but then it only carries you to the next part of your destiny." She was not sure if Cinder would understand what she ment but it was the truth of her heart. "What about you?"wc:208

"Thank you!" Cinder said, trying to hide her surprise. She'd never gotten such a compliment before, and she couldn't help but notice how kind and open Kachina was - qualities that she could learn from, perhaps. Cinder loved company, but she had been known to be a little more guarded, more... singular in her ambition. There weren't many who understood it, and the doe had learned not to share it too often. "I have the gift of Vivify, with the ability to Cleanse!" she said eagerly, still feeling the thrill of standing under the Grandfather Tree, looking up into its branches and waiting for the touch of magic on her soul. What an experience. "What about yours? You wouldn't happen to be... also a Vivify, would you? You seem like you might be. You're just so... kind."The doe nodded thoughtfully as Kachina spoke about her experience, and a smile came to alight on her face as she listened. "Yes, I see what you're saying. I can definitely relate," she said, imagining it all happening again with that contented smile. "Mine felt similar, I think, except instead of the smell of flowers it felt like the wind carried this... promise. It was like the wind itself was excited for me."

A look flashed across Cinder's face but it was gone so quick that Kachina was not sure she had seen it at all. Kachina hoped that some day they would be friends enough to share even the most fliting of thoughts. Kachina was an open book so maybe she would rub off on Cinder she thought with a smile. Kachina smiled widely as Cinder reviled her gift form the Grandfather Tree. Another Vivify that is just amazing truly. "You are complete right. I was gifted with Vivfiy and the very very amazing thing is my gift is also Cleanse." It was very strange how the Great Tree worked in bringing them together. It was even more strange how that they would have the very same gift. "We could be twins almost!" Kachina said in a joyful way hopping form hoof to hoof. It was just too much for Kachina to contain her excitement and joy. She had always wanted a sister. As it was she only had a older brother and they did not see eye to eye very often. "So tell me about yourself? Do you have siblings? Tell me about you mother and father? " She was very eager to learn about Cinder and hoped she was not being to to forward but it was who she was not guile or some said filter, whatever that was. Kachina just said what ever came to mind as soon as it did. "Life was easier when you are just totally open in everything." Kachina always said. wc:255

"No kidding!" Cinder said, grinning in response. What were the chances! Two young does, both with the same gift. The Grandfather Tree must have seen something in the two of them, and with a lucky twist of fate, they'd managed to find each other right after their respective quests. If that wasn't a sign, Cinder didn't know what was. She bobbed her head happily, pleased to have made a new friend, who might be able to go through this journey through learning and growing with their magical gifts with her. "I'm an only child," she said with a laugh. "Although my parents seem to be considering more, now that I'm less of a handful for them. They couldn't handle the potential of having two of me at the same time." Cinder was more than aware of how difficult she must have been to raise. So many questions. So many demands. So many requests to follow them and learn and better prepare herself for the day when she could go to the Grandfather Tree, receive her gift, and throw herself into helping heal their society. The doe had never been apologetic for who she was, but she bore no small amount of appreciation for her parents' endless patience. "How about you?"

It made Kachina said to think of a noul being only foal. Hoof-ful or not everyone needed to have that close bound that only a sibling could give you. "Maybe that is why the Great Tree has guided me to Cinder?" She thought to herself and then voiced the very though out to Cinder. "Maybe I am to be your sister in spirit." It was exciting to think it to be possible. "After all we are so very alike and the Great Tree did bring us together." Kachina smiled widely at Cinder hoping she did not find her creepy but instead felt the same way. "Oh I have any older brother. He is a pain in the rump but I love him. We do not always see hoof to hoof really. But y'know big brothers they always think they know best." She paused and her eyes almost popped out of her head. "Oh no you do not know what I am talking about. I am sorry sometimes it just say things before thinking it through totally." She smiled shyly at Cinder and hoped she understood. Changing the subject a little she stated to talk about her mother and father. "So both my parents are solar and they are all about peace and mediation. They are both great and every happy loving and caring nouls to all." It was exhausting honestly sometimes for Kachina and was the main reason she had started dancing as a very young foal. "It is kinda tiring really and it is why I dance with the wind. The wind does not expect anything form you and you can be mad or sad or happy and express your every feeling unjudged." She smiled again at her new friend. wc:291

Cinder had been thinking along the same lines, wondering what the Grandfather Tree had meant by sending someone to her who seemed to similar and yet so different. There was much to be said about having someone who understood, and much to be learned from a good friend. Maybe Kachina was right. If Cinder was being honest, she would have to admit that she'd had a handful of superficial friends in her life - the kind that one would meet in or around high society - but she'd never been sure how real those friendships were. She grinned and nodded happily. "I think you're right," she said in agreement. "The Grandfather Tree must've known it."Her face took on a thoughtful expression as the topic turned to siblings. She had always wondered what it would be like to have one, but being the role-driven nouls her parents were, they had wanted only one foal while they focused on advancing themselves as well. The doe thought their system had worked decently well - her parents hadn't had to sacrifice everything they thought important just to raise her, and yet they had still done what she considered to be quite a good job of parenting. But it was a little lonely sometimes, being an only child. "Oh, don't worry about it," Cinder said with a shake of her head. "I might soon understand what it's like to have a little brother or sister, anyway. It might be a bit of an adjustment." She wondered if she'd be close to a hypothetical younger sibling. She'd never really known how to act around foals, but maybe it was a learning opportunity. "Huh. That sounds... interesting," she said curiously as Kachina began to talk about the wind. That uninhibited sense of whimsy was something she was quite unfamiliar with. If tasked with imagining it, Cinder had to admit that she struggled a bit. But seeing Kachina dance about, the doe suspected that it could be quite enjoyable. "I don't think I've ever tried, to be honest."

Kachina smiled warmly at her new friend and sister in gift if not temperament. "You have such a soft understanding for me. Thank you." Kachina had not only ruin into this doe but had said a couple of thing now that to any noul else would have been seen as rude, even though Kachina never ment rudeness to be preserved by her words or actions. "Some nouls are very sensitive sometimes and misunderstand me." She confided in Cinder has she hung her head in the memories of past mishaps. Not to say she was not sensitive herself but her words did not have any hidden meaning or reasons behind them; she truly just said whatever was on her heart form the heart. But sometimes it did not always get heard the way she ment it to be. "A little bro or sis would be wonderful. I am sure they will look up to you very much. Your heart seems very caring and will guild a foal to a loving path I am sure." She smiled at Cinder reassuringly. A new foal in any family would take some adjusting but Kachina could tell this doe would make a great friend and sister and the rest would work itself out. Kachina moved on with nothing much else to say about Cinder's wonderful and caring capabilities. Her thoughts tended to move around much like the wind and sometimes just as fast. "Oh you should try to dance with the wind some time. Truly one of the most magical things I have ever felt in my short long life." she twirled around a couple of times with the excitement of it all even though the breeze had long since settled. wc:286

"I would certainly try!" Cinder nodded thoughtfully. She had wondered in the past what it might be like to have a sibling to ally with against the parents or the nannies. What shenanigans could they get up to? But thinking back, the doe had to concede that growing up as an only child was probably the best route for her. The competitive nature that fueled her every move and desire might have meant that a similarly aged brother or sister would become a nemesis rather than a friend. And that would have been a shame. She was different now, though. More mature, or perhaps simply more able to understand that a young foal was not her competition. It was a lot easier to fully love something that didn't seem like a threat in any way. "Maybe it won't be so hard after all."Taking care of a little sibling was probably like dancing on the wind, if she thought about it. Just a new thing that she'd never tried before. The doe smiled. "You'll have to teach me next time," she said. It was rapidly approaching time for her to be home. She still hadn't broken the news about her gift to her parents, who were no doubt eagerly awaiting her return.

The Homewood air grow cold and the sweet smell of evening due on the green warm leaves of tree began to make its ways on the through out the Homewood. It had been a very long and eventful day for both the does. Kachina was sure her mother would be meditating the worry of her daughter not returning as quickly as possible too. "Well I hate to stops such a wonderful encounter but I am sure my mother is meditating herself into a coma. So I really should get home." She smiled brightly at her knew friend. She knew they would see each other again. "It has been such a pleasure running into you though." She giggled at her little joke now that the event was all over. "Maybe then next time we meet I can teach you how to dance with the wind." She smiled at the thought of their next meeting. With that she came up close to Cinder and hugged her. Kachina was a hugger in everyday life but this was her sister in gift and she just could not help but hug the doe before her. "Until we run into each other again. Hopefully in a last dramatic way though." Kachina giggled and released Cinder and turned to walk away going home to her den. It would be hours before her mother would let her go to sleep but today was a good day. She had been gifted, danced with the wind, and then made a great new friend. As if the wind knew she was leaving it began to swirl around her. Kachina let the breeze carry her into yet another magical dance but this time she kept her eyes open just in case. wc:289

"Mine as well, I'm sure," Cinder agreed with a nod. It had been a long day for them both. "I'm so glad we met. Next time, for sure."She seemed a little surprised by the hug, a little stiff at first, but relaxed after a moment's brief hesitation. Her family was not a touchy one, and hugs were not something she was too used to. Still, it came as a pleasant surprise. "Have a good night!" Cinder said happily, turning toward home. She had known that today would be exciting, but meeting a new friend had been beyond even her expectations.
