The Fallguard have lived here since the beginning, tucked away behind towering mountains and a now-dead forest. Legend is passed down among them of the Humans, tall creatures who ruled over these lands, but who have since vanished from their world. Of course, those are just myths now... but the Fallguard hold true to their ways. Royalty rules this pack now, with the oldest wolf dog family at it's head. They strive to continue life as a unified front, to battle and protect those in need, and to fend off villains who would dare to harm the innocent. Berserkers are one such enemy of the pack. Legend has it that those beasts drove out the mighty wolf dogs of old from the Waylands where they once lived. Someday they hope to take back the humans' land. ♠ ♠ ♠
Rules of the Pack:
♠ Honor and chivalry above all else. ♠ Do not cheat or kill your fellow pack mate. Battle scars are well received during duels, but killing another pack mate is not. ♠ Never turn away someone in need. ♠ Berserkers are to be chased off on sight! ♠ Do not ever attack a raccoon! They are our allies and have served the Fallguard for generations.

Territory
The Fallguard is located on the upper end of the Redwood Forest. It's colder up here, and more isolated from intruders - which is exactly how the Fallguard like it.
Food can sometimes be more scarce up here as well, but the wolf dogs have adapted to it. Some will venture south to bring back bigger game, others have learned how to fish along the coast. In fact, fish are a staple food source for the Fallguard. Flying companions are also handy in this regard as well, as they can help them track down food to take down and dive into deeper water to catch fish.
Other Wildlife
- Raccoons are the most common familiar to be found around here, due to an alliance with a tribe of them here in the Fallguard. As such, most raccoons are encouraged to join the Lost Rook tribe, but it's not uncommon to find a raccoon simply living in the Fallguard with a bonded wolf dog. More information on this tribe can be found in the next post.
- Deer, elk and ponies are also permitted in the pack, though less common. This is a working familiar whose use generally focuses around transport of goods, as well as steeds for the raccoon tribe.
- Crows, vultures and owls are also a usual sight, due to their usefulness. Vultures, especially, are handy for scouting out the Waylands. You can never be too careful with those Berserkers right next door....
- Hares, however, are food unless bonded to a lord or lady. As such, they can only take the rank of Pawn, and have to be careful, lest they get eaten by accident.
- Bears and puma are seen as rivaling predators, and cannot join the pack.

About the Locals
This is a wolf dog only pack, bar the addition of most wildlife mentioned in the post above. That said, the Fallguard will not turn away mixed offspring (though it certainly helps that all wolf dog offspring become wolf dogs themselves!). There are no restrictions on naming, pelt colors or otherwise, so long as they are a wolf dog.
Dire Wolves, Berserkers and Ethereals
To the Fallguard, dire wolves are just bigger, but not to an intimidating level like a berserker. They're more used to them because of their frequency around Kells, as well as their general acceptance of wolf dogs. While a dire wolf cannot join the pack, they won't immediately be chased off either. They are instead watched closely, and not allowed to enter the central area of the pack. In addition to this, it's totally acceptable to have pups with a dire wolf.
As one would expect, berserkers are greatly hated here in the Fallguard. Their history and all following meetings with them to this point have ended poorly, and in general, the wolf dogs of this pack will attack them on sight.
As for Ethereal... well, they've never run into one before. However, should that happen, they would likely respond with suspicion and distrust. These are creatures just as large as a berserker, albeit more wispy looking and more colorful, and so the Fallguard won't really react with enthusiasm at the sight of them. In the end, they're just alien, and how that relationship will grow is still to be determined.
Breeding / Mating
Flings are neither encouraged nor discouraged in the pack. In fact, nobility are pressured to do so while out on ventures, as their pack would have dwindled by now if they didn't allow new blood in. Pups from a breeding with a dire will always be accepted because of this.
However, flinging within the pack or when not on a venture is viewed as... less than good. You won't find anyone celebrating your pups in this situation, and the pups will have to work harder to prove that they're worthy of living in the pack.
With this logic in mind, the Fallguard prefers life-mating inside the pack above all else. Pups from those unions are treasures to be protected. They are given priority in the pack, and celebrated when they are born.
OOC, all types of breeding are allowed! As a rule of thumb:
- Life-mating is heavily encouraged within the pack. - Flings with those outside the pack are also heavily encouraged, but try to avoid it with Berserkers and Ethereals, if you can. Your wolf dog would have to hide the fact that they got with one. - Flings within the pack are also allowed OOC, but remember that it'll come with IC gossip and hard times.

Alliances
For the most part, the Fallguard are fairly good-natured, though a bit standoffish to outsiders. However, the King knows that a strong pack needs strong allies, and as such he will always be willing to hear out an offer of alliance.
While the Fallguard are not wont to allow non-wolf dogs as pack members, they are more than happy to strike up an alliance with packs that do, such as other dire wolf packs. The only exception to this are those that have Berserkers at the forefront of their pack. You'll receive more than your fair share of suspicion from them in this case.
Below is the list of their current allies and enemies. If you are another pack looking to plot something with the Fallguard, please feel free to DM me on discord!
♠ ♠ ♠
Allies: ** As a note, Berserkers belonging to allied packs are more or less... tolerated. Members of the Fallguard are expected to know better than to incite the wrath of an ally.
The Lost Rook Tribe
A resident tribe of raccoons that live alongside the Fallguard. They are the protectors of the border, and are considered a sister tribe to the pack.
The Crows
Our neighbors to the south. It's common for Crows and Fallguard to cross paths, and even more so for them to aid each other while out on Ventures/jobs. These two packs will trade with each other on a regular basis.
Enemies:
Berserkers (in general)
Berserkers are unwanted here in the Fallguard. Their history with them has never been a good one, and most wolf dogs around here will spit on them if they cross paths.

Annual Pack Events
Fishing Season (May-July)
While fishing is a staple of the Fallguard, the fish are most abundant during the summer and the pack likes to take advantage of it! The more fish brought in, the more the pack will thrive, after all - and what better way to do so than with a little competition?
Fishing roleplays completed during this time will count towards IC prizes (including pelts, furs and other wares) and the pack member with the most points will obtain the title of "Fish Master"! A hub with further information will be created once the season begins.
Fox Hunting Season (Nov-Jan)
It's said that the wolf dogs of old used to hunt other animals, such as foxes, alongside their human companions, and while the details of such things have faded over time, the tradition still stands... albeit with a few changes. This season works similarly to the fishing one, but as in the olden days, a wolf dog must pair with someone else in order to gain points!
Foxes are elusive creatures here in Kells. To find and catch one is said to bring good luck. In addition to this, they're competition for the food in the area... and known to hunt our allied raccoons. So of course the Fallguard had to make a season of hunt for them.
Hunting roleplays completed during this time will count towards IC prizes (including pelts, furs, "lucky" fox tail charms, and other wares) and the pack member with the most points will obtain the title of "Fox Catcher"! A hub with further information will be created once the season begins.
