It All Began…

2012: the predicted end of the world. Many theories spread about how the world was supposed to end, but the truth of it all was something no one expected. A terrorist group calling themselves Judgement released a bioagent into the air on all habitable continents. It spread like a silent fog, settling into the bodies of anything it touched. All living creatures became either ill or carriers of the manufactured disease.

People, animals, and plants all began to change at a cellular level, transforming and disfiguring within a matter of weeks. The population of the world drastically declined. Judgement’s bioagent was killing indiscriminately. By the time the year was through Earth was at only a fraction of its original capacity and still declining.

Now, hundreds of years later, the agent that had killed so many has left a lasting scar on the planet. The population was slowly rebounding but was nowhere close to the previous 7 billion human inhabitants. Many animal and plant species no longer existed. The colors of the world were saturated and bright and crystals jutted seemingly at random from the landscape and from the bones of the inhabitants of this new world. This world that is now called Tendaji.

A World Kept in Seclusion

Seven hundred years after the initial collapse of all world systems, Tendaji has been left with three humanoid species: the Aishans, the Earthlings, and the Kahikinans. Pushed into hiding in the most recluse pockets of the earth, the three species are wary of one another and each pocket nation has been built on the seclusion of providing for their own.

The Aishans

After the release of Judgement, scientists rushed into action trying to find any way to prevent the devastation that was to come. When all seemed lost and the end was closing in on the humans of the world, a last ditch effort was made by the brightest minds. They designed a plant that could leech the toxins from the earth and air alike. They could only hope that it would take hold and flourish.

This plant would eventually be known as Aisha. Seven hundred years old and the largest structure in Tendaji, it is responsible for making the world stable enough to stop the constant deadly changes the bioagent was inflicting.

Curiously enough, nearly two hundred years after its initial planting, Aisha began to produce flowers. From those blooms came a strange bug-eyed species known as the Aishans.

Those that resided on the Chibale Islands where Aisha was located called themselves the race of the Alkidike. Developing a culture focused on training and battle, the Alkidike eventually spread out to the other areas of Tendaji.

A branch of the Alkidike calling themselves the Extremists pushed themselves as the only suitable power to rule the rest of Tendaji, but were met with enough opposition to banish them to Yael. These Extremists carried with them a secret: a seed from Aisha which they nurtured and grew into adolescence. This tree would be called Elzira and she too bore flowers that produced Aishans. These Aishans looked nothing like their cousins to the north, and thus received the name the Elaria.

The Earthlings

The humans of earth fled to their shelters in an attempt to avoid the spread of Judgement. Those that survived were twisted and mutated into something else. At first the change was sickening, many dying outright and others picked apart by the resulting crystallizations that began to sprout from their bones.

After hundreds of years of time, and the intervention of Aisha, the changes settled. Everything became less intense with each generation. The crystals now were harmless, sprouting only in limited places on the surface of the skin. But the geographical locations that the humans had fled to were permanently ingrained into their earthling genetics. They would call themselves based on the mutations of colors and the traits that they inherited.

Each earthling race had their own history and events that unfolded until eventually they began to travel, explore, and meet each other. They soon found that they were more numerous than they thought, but they also found that not all earthlings shared as peaceful a community as they did.

The fire earthlings in the south were closely involved with their neighboring water earthlings. They used their power and their military to enslave the water earthlings, keeping them in their houses and complexes as another piece of property to do their bidding. The tension came to a head with a war between the other earthlings of Tendaji and the fire earthlings of Oba. Giant beasts were brought in to bring the battles to a close with the eventual defeat and overthrowing of the Oban government. The freeing of the water earthlings was a moment to be celebrated by all.

Not long after, the eventual discovery of the Yaeli as well as the entire continent of Belrea broadened the earthlings’ lineage and culture even more, introducing the last of the races of earthlings.

The Kahikinans

Judgement worked in unexpected ways. Whereas Tendaji was a land that transformed into a crystallized ecosystem, elsewhere it altered the very geneology of the once human race.

On an island not too far away from Tendaji, a pure spring fed the land and sea. There, the bioagent settled into the water resulting in many directly consuming it instead of it landing on their skin. The local population found themselves initially dealing with an insane thirst, before their skin became so dry it cracked. They struggled to understand what was happening. Many perished from the strange illness that wracked their lands before their bright and vibrant markings started to settle on their skins and the changes were complete.

As hundreds of years passed by, these new creatures settled into the rivers, marshes, and all other inhabitable bodies of water. The island was covered in an endless rain that purified the air from the bioagent, but the impact was already irreversible. So they did what they could and continued to evolve into an amphibian race, the water soothing their skin and their rhythms of life encompassing a life on land and in water.

Three hundred years ago, the land faced a great drought that separated the rivers and marshes with their sea-dwelling brethren. Trade and travel were cut off, leaving them only the company of their own races. Only recently, when it seemed as if their lands would become inhabitable, did a great storm bring them salvation and connect the worlds again. Along with a new race hidden deep in the caves below the island.

Suddenly, their world seemed so much bigger than before, and they had to learn to embrace to the colorful array of cultures that came from the rivers, marshes, reefs, seas, and caves that was Kahikina.

Little did they know of what lied far across the sea.

The Past Five Years

An ancient map was discovered deep in the forests of Yael depicting a world unfamiliar to those from Tendaji. It showed many lands, islands, and worlds, unbelievable to those who read it. However, all it would take is one to show enough curiosity to set an expedition in motion. A boat set off from Yael containing a mix of Aishans and Earthlings alike. Their course was focused on an island to the east.

As they landed on this island, they found themselves in watery marshlands. They explored for a month, finding empty homes and villages without a trace of its people. Little did they know that the local population was lurking in the deep, muddy waters, watching and assessing their intruders. The menehune, uncertain by the land walkers, quickly informed the residents of their new visitors.

It would take another month before a chance encounter connected the two worlds.

Meanwhile, members of the Alkidike sisterhood turned their sights to the continent of Belrea. Taking a seed from their sacred tree, they made the journey across the sea to plant it with hopes it would bloom. Their main goal was to expand their mother goddess' protection, but some did hope that they might see similar results like the extremists had with Elzira. For now, they guard the tree from any intruders, cultivating and protecting it in its infancy.

Little did they know that a similar group of Extremist and Elarians planted their own seed on Kahikina.

As the world continues to expand and intertwine, the three races slowly get to know one another. Many are surprised at how open the amphibian races are to the newcomers. The influence of Tendaji is clear on Kahikina, as many are learning to use weapons and how to control their magic. In turn, the Kahikinans are bringing artisan skills and trade to Tendaji. The Alkidike sisterhood is showing signs of peace, and the Extremists are silent. For now.

It is a time of calm and peace across the lands as three species grow together in the world of Tendaji.
