Russet Fawn felt like she was just brimming with magic. Her shoulder and leg still itched a little from when the Grandfather tree blessed her with stronger magic. There was also the added hooves of a foal named Juniper, but for today she had had someone watch the little bundle of energy. She had work to do and a series of gardens to prepare for plants. Her dream quest for her Adept rank she had come to see that she could cultivate seeds for herbs. The many herbs that perhaps can't be found too readily. Much like the Heytheria that she had sprouted at the edges of the Barrens. While she hadn't found any others with seeds she could collect to grow more.. Someday she would. "Come on Talltale, we have some work to do. This clearing is open enough to house a few rows of plants. Even if we can go back to the..." she gave a shudder at the thought, "Ruins and find something that can hold soil and plants for more controlled growth." She finished looking at the Jack Hop. "I am sure going back will be just fine. For now, lets start clearing out space. Many weeds need to be removed before we can even start growing anything here." The Jack Hop said as he pulled at a few twigs that were tangled in the grass. Fawn could only grin and shake her head before she too stared helping. The larger stones and logs she needed more help with, but so far the space was starting to shape up.. WC: 263

Mielikki had just recently returned to Homewood from her journey to the Grandfather Tree. Her gait was her usual, a walk just above an amble with her head about as high as her shoulders. In her mouth, the empty bucket swung lightly with her movements. She was oblivious to much of what was going on around her as she move along the familiar route to her tree home. Her thoughts whirled in her mind as she went over her dream quest the great Grandfather Tree sent her on.
A Fungal user? It was a gift she had never heard of, mostly since she really only spent time with her mother, a botanic user. She had heard about the other gifts but not fungal. Mielikki had hoped to follow in her mother’s footsteps and work with plants. She wasn’t sure if she was disappointed or not with the outcome of her journey. The ability she had was certainly something very beneficial in the reviving of this world they call home. Enrich, she could summon nutrients that the soil must be in desperate need of.
She gazed up at the canopy above her and pondered how she would even summon nutrients. Where did they come from? How would she convince them to disperse in the soil? How about evenly disperse? Maybe she could practice on some of her potted plants back at her tree home. She was sure they could use the added help of nutrients seeing as they were confined to containers of sorts. And if she did master her ability, what would she be able to learn to do next? Mielikki was very much not paying attention to where she was walking by now and promptly tripped over a pile of discarded weeds, her bucket sent flying ahead. She hit the dirt face first and got a decent chunk of soil in her mouth. Oddly enough, it tasted bland and void.
“Ughhhh,” she moaned and spat out the dirt. She looked up from where she was sprawled and saw the pile of weeds and then the noul and a jack hop not far from her. “I take it those are your weeds?”

Having been really pre-occupied with the pulling and tossing of weeds, Fawn hadn't noticed that they had a pile of them. Not that she expected someone else to be so close to her home. The clearing itself was a fair sized one with a stone/earth den with a stout willow like tree on the top. Its roots reached down the sides of the den holding up the roof with moss that helped shed the water. Holly bushes grew on either side of the entrance of the den, Fawn and Talltale gave a look to each other before turning to look at the Noul whom had spoken. With a clump of weeds still in her mouth, Fawn just stared silently, it was Talltale whom spoke up first. "Sorry about that, guess we got so into weeding that the pile got rather large." He chuckled before hopping over towards the strange doe. "Think clearing out this area for seeds got a little carried away." Talltale chuckled slightly as Fawn grinned over the weeds in her mouth. Tossing them away she looked at the doe for a moment before looking at the weeds. They would have to go somewhere besides there. Perhaps she could get something to put them in for later use... Maybe.. "Well I was going to set up a large garden here to grow herbs. Never know when a Vivfy will need something that they can't find out there." she glanced out towards the trees that surrounded them. "What brings you this way? I hardly ever seen anyone in this part of the wood." Then again she hardly ever paid that much attention either. What the world did around her she often just let happened. WC:286

Mielikki blinked at the jack hop who came up to her talking about clearing an area of them. Jack hops, she rarely encountered them...on purpose. She looked past him to the space indicated. It was a good sized patch for growing plants, herbs as the doe indicated. Mielikki looked up at the doe and realized she was an adept by the looks of the flowing green marking, a botanic adept.
Suddenly she realized that she was still sprawled on the ground. She stood up quickly and shook herself off before realizing her bucket was missing and about panicked. It wasn’t too far from her and she quickly snatched it up.
“I’m sorry,” Mielikki muttered to no one in particular. “I’ll try not to drop it again….”
She glanced back at the noul doe and jack hop. “I don’t normally travel through here. I’ve just come back from my trip to the Grandfather Tree. I live on the outskirts, towards the ruins. Apologise for trespassing. I was caught up in my thoughts.”
Mielikki was just about to mosing off on her way back to her home when she paused. The taste of the dirt was still on her tongue. Although she didn’t go out of her way to “eat” dirt, she had her share of falling and “checking the mineral content of the dirt” as her mother use to say. Mielikki tilted her head as she thought or as it appeared to outsiders, listening to someone?
“I think you’re right,” she mumbled. “I wouldn’t argue with you, it makes sense.”
Mielikki sighed and rolled her eyes slightly before turning back to the doe.
“Your soil tastes bland.”

Fawn and Talltale looked at each other when the doe had mentioned that the soil was bland. It wasn't like they had been really tasting it. They were only going to pull the weeds and plant the seedlings. But this was something that made them curious. Though there were things that were to be addressed before asking about the soil. "Ah yes, the Grandfather tree. I was there no too long ago myself. Showing it mostly to the little one that I found out in the barrens. As well as advancing myself in stronger magic." Fawn said as she watching the other doe. "But I wouldn't worry about trespassing there's not much here. Parents had apparently left it for me to find." She still wasn't sure how she had come to being at this place when she clearly remembered falling asleep near some large redwoods. Fawn watched as this stranger seemed to talk to someone. While she didn't see anyone per-say, but this was the second time that it had happened. Tilting her head slightly, she just shook it afterwards. It was none of her business what other people did. Talltale had started moving the pile of weeds from the where they had been thrown and piling them up closer to the moss covered den. "So what is this about the soil?" She asked finally looking around again. "If it is bland, that might be why there are so many weeds growing here." This brought a chuckle out of her, a quiet one anyways. One thing that was still unspoken were names. It seemed that both Talltale and Fawn had neglected to even think of it. One can only assume that it will dawn on one of them eventually.. WC: 289

Mielikki frowned slightly watching the jack hop and noul doe look at each other. But then the jack hop went back to work while the doe seemed interested in talking a bit. Lovely. Hope she didn’t expect a life story, but the doe did confirm that she had moved up in her magic capabilities. Mielikki only just gained her gift and an ability along with it. She hadn’t used it yet or attempted to. Eventually the doe brought up Mielikki’s comment about the soil. Mielikki was starting to wonder if her taste buds have grown attuned with the contents of the soil because of her ability to Enrich it.
“The soil tastes bland. Like it’s lacking something or a lot of something.”
Mielikki looked down at the dirt and toed a dirt clod with a hoof.
“Maybe there’s not enough nutrition in the soil to support anything but weeds,” she finally said.
Mielikki’s comment basically hinted at the fact that the noul doe’s and jack hop’s gardening adventure may just fail. May.
“What do botanics do to remedy the soil? It’s been a while and I’m rusty,” Mielikki asked.
Although Mielikki wasn’t a botanic and was in fact a fungal, she was raised by one. However, it had been a long time since she had been gifted knowledge of the gift she was to never receive. And she was sure that botanic had continued to advance in their knowledge, work and discoveries since her mother’s death.
“You don’t tell me anything new,” Mielikki said over her shoulder suddenly.WC: 258 Total: 897

Fawn turned what was said over in her head. She wasn't sure we to what other Botanics did to keep their soils herb ready. She supposed they had their ways, but she as still getting things started. Frowning slightly she turned back towards the strange doe with the bucket and this habit of talking to someone over her shoulder? Averting her gaze towards the patch she and her companion had been clearing, she supposed that there could have been something missing. Shaking her head, the tremor rattled down her spine to snap out her tail. "Haven't really talked to too many about this sort of thing. I just got the idea to do it after the first seed I sprouted. Back when I too was new to my gift." Fawn said looking skyward as if in remembrance. "The plant still grows on the edges of Homewood where it meets the barrens."Talltale rustled some to the side as thing seemed to get quiet. Fawn glanced over as he was moving the last of the weeds. They would have to get a container to put them in. Perhaps they could decay them down to make a fertilizer for the herbs later... Who knew how long that would take.. "Don't suppose you will be able to help me? I hear that there is a new group that are gifted with fungal like abilities." While it was true she didn't know what this doe was gifted with. But it was worth a shot in asking at least. "Oh yes, my name's Russet Fawn. The Jack Hop is Talltale." She motioned toward the Jack Hop that merely waved in their direction. WC: 277

So this botanic user didn’t communicate much with the others of her gift. That seemed to be a thing amongst that particular group. Didn’t seem like Mielikki would get much new information out of...Russet Fawn. Lovely, now we’re sharing names which means Mielikki now felt inclined to share her name and this meant she know actually knew someone other than her mother.
“Mielikki,” she said matter of factly, no need to mince words.
She gave a sigh and tilted her head over her shoulder a moment and looked the direction she was going. Russet Fawn wasn’t a fungal user but had heard of them, she was also an adept not an apprentice which meant she knew what she was doing. She also had success using her abilities. These where all ideal points that pointed towards Mielikki giving up an afternoon of solace for one here with another noul and their...jack hop. Mielikki’s gaze flicked over to where the small creature was.
“I know you don’t trust many, but I actually need to learn what I’m doing….just….be quiet for a bit.” Mielikki said in a low tone back over her shoulder.
Her gaze went back to Russet Fawn’s, it was somewhat steely but fully expressed that her mind was made up.
“Ok, I’ll stay. I’m a fungal user, my ability is enrich. I’m supposed to be able to add nutrients to the soil. A plant can grow but with added nutrition, it would grow better, fuller and produce more. I just haven’t used an ability before.”WC: 259 Total: 1,156

Fawn tilted her head, there was that tick again. She was speaking over her shoulder, ears flicking slightly, before she looked away as the Doe had spoke of staying. Well It would make the day go faster and the land be made fertile again. She had some plants that would do well in such grounds. But pleasantries came first. "It is a pleasure to meet you Mielikki." She smiled bowing her head a little, "It is nice to meet someone who is of a different blessing. And you sound like how I was first starting out. Only I was a little silly to think I could do my gift in the barrens." She gave an uneasy chuckle. "I was fortunate to have someone accompany me while I did so. Hunting for a seed in the barrens was the real challenge."She turned slightly as she walked over to a plant that laid grey and lifeless beside her home. It was one she had brought back before she had returned to see how the seed she had sprouted was doing. This plant wasn't doing the best, really it had passed a long time ago and was just the bare bones. "If we can make a place for this. It will be a start. Something small and work towards something big" She glanced towards the beds she was looking to make. But this one plant could be placed in a container of soil. "Russet Fawn was one for trying to do things on a grand scale, she never took my advice back then. I hardly think she will now." Talltale said as he had come to sit beside Mielikki. "The barrens stunt was of her own, I had wanted her to try here where things weren't so dangerous. But She was still young and thought she could do anything." He shrugged and only grinned as the doe glared at him from where she stood next to a squat planter like bucket that was half filled with soil. WC: 335

Mielikki about jumped out of her skin hearing a voice down at her feet. She looked down to see that the jack hop was sitting next to her. She then took a step to the side, while eyeing Talltale. She wasn’t entirely sure about other species just yet. Her ears twitched back as she listened to a whispering and then swung forward, ignoring the voice. Mielikki’s gaze then went towards the plant Russet Fawn had mentioned and proceeded to walk over to it.
She inspected the wilted leaves of the plant. It was in a sad sorry state, how terrible, Mielikki thought. She looked over at the bucket Russet Fawn was standing next to. Start small and then expand. Like working a muscle, her mother use to say.
“So shall I attempt to amend the soil in the bucket?” Mielikki finally asked.
She pondered what that might entail. How did she grab hold of the magic, first how’d she summon it? Would it do what I asked of it? Maybe by tasting the soil I’d know better what I need to add or correct in it. She approached the bucket half filled with soil and sniffed it. Hmm, she took some in her mouth and rolled it around over her tongue. Hmmm. She was standing there with dirt in her mouth wondering what’s missing and suddenly felt rather silly. Mielikki promptly spat it out when her eyes connected suddenly with Russet Fawn’s. WC: 242 Total: 1,398

Fawn glared once more at Talltale whom only grinned before he went to do something else, most likely to fill a container with water to be used when the plant was brought back to life. The soil itself was from the barrens. Some that was far from the reaches of Homewood, but not where the sands swept wide and long. Shaking her head, she glanced at the doe whom had come closer to the bucket of dirt. She watched as the doe took a mouthful and kinda just blinked at her. "This soil is from the barrens. Parched dry by the hot sun and very little rain that falls. I am sure that it lacks a lot of what even the Homewood has." She explained as she walked around to the other side to be across from the Doe. "I have no knowledge of how the Fungal gift works. But calling it forward should work like any other."Turning her gaze away for a moment as if she had heard something in the distance, Whatever it had been was gone now and left the Doe wondering, but she soon put the thought to the side to continue what she was doing. She was curious to how much she knew of magic. Was she rough hued like herself, having to learn things on her own. Or had there been someone to explain and ease her through the processes of finding her fire and working it to her will. Fawn's own magic was a ball of green fire deep within her core, she understood other gifts were represented by other colors. Fungal was still a new finding in Homewood and she didn't know what color Mielikki's fire was. This was going to be a learning curve for the both of them. In truth, Fawn wondered how she got to be this way, in the past she would have locked up and wanted to get away. Now it seemed she sought help and wanted to help others... In her own way that is... It was odd being around nouls who were not her mother. It seemed to be happening frequently lately too. It was as if the world said, “No more being alone now.” Mielikki interacted with nouls on an as need basis. Words were short and to the point, no small talk, no exchange of names. Mielikki now had two names, had two conversations, have spent time with two nouls. Both seemed night and day but while one was a vivify, this doe was a botanic and seemed to fit her gift like all the others. While fungal was indeed new, it was clear that botanic and fungal weren’t too different in personality. Russet Fawn seemed a bit distant and Mielikki was fine with that, she wasn’t going to push but she wasn’t going to make this stranger teach her something either.
A chill ran over her backside and Mielikki’s flank visibly twitched, her ears flicked back and she only slightly glanced back. It was mere moments before Mielikki’s attention returned forward. It was now fully on the bucket of barren soil. Soil so devoid of life giving nutrients, Mielikki was unsure if her ability would be enough. She started bringing up memories of when her mother would use her gift, they flooded her mind as she pondered them for a moment. Certain things she said, what she taught Mielikki to do when she helped.
Her head suddenly lowered to the dirt again, the grains of soil and sand tickling the fine hairs on her muzzle. She breathed deep, her tongue lightly touched the dirt once more. Her mind recalled nutrient information that she didn’t realized was within. Mielikki latched onto that information and felt it stir, her magic, it light up and begin to blaze. Her shoulders twitched as she felt it burn along her skin, she turned her focus once more to the soil as she held the nutrients in her mind. A sweat broke out across her shoulders and neck, she just needed to grab the magic and move it towards the soil. Her horn glowed a deep plum purple as she grabbed the tendril of magic and sent it flying towards the bucket of dirt.
It swirled under her nose, it’s color changing as it was flooded with missing key nutrients. A rich loaming scent began to rise up off the soil towards her nose. Mielikki breathed deep and then took one more taste, it seemed to have work. She wasn’t sure how deep down into the bucket it went, hopefully all the way. The only way to find out….Mielikki suddenly turned to look for the jack hop.
“I think I did it,” Mielikki said to Russet Fawn.WC: 451 Total: 1,849

Fawn watched interest as the doe looked over her shoulder a moment before reaching down to the soil. Backing up a little, she let Mielikki have some space as she brought forward her ability and sent it into the soil. To which the soil darkened with the ability to hold life. Talltale hopped forward when the doe seemed to be looking for him, he hadn't gone too far off. Hopping up onto the edge of the bucket he sniffed at the dirt before digging into it with his paws, he made a hole for the dead plant to be placed and rooted in with Fawn's own magic. While he didn't say anything, thinking it was best that Fawn talk for the most part, it was doing her the most good. He just set the dead plant up and covered the roots with pawfuls of soil. "Impressive. Seems you were able to bring the soil from the Barrens back to what it used to be. It should now support the life that is about the be planted within." Fawn nodded approvingly before stepping forward. Raising her head up, she closed her eyes and called forth the ball of green fire. Once more the marking on her shoulder gave off a soft glow of green before it moved to her horn. Lowering her head she touched her horn to the otherwise dead plant. Near instantly the plant shuddered, dead shaking off to allow new white roots to reach deep into the soil. From the stems new grew as well as leaves. These sprouted quickly, small at first before popping into full flavor and reaching upwards towards the rays of the sun that shown over head. Releasing her hold on her magic and letting the fire simmer down within, her should began to itch as it always did, but she ignored it. Before her a squat bush, maybe a few inches tall, but still growing sat in the soil Mielikki had enriched. This was the work of the both of them, Fawn could only give a small smile before picking up the watering container from Talltale to water the bush. "I bet this thing will bear berries when it comes to age. Something everyone will need when the colder seasons come." Talltale said as he came back to the edge of the bucket. "But we shall have to wait for that time, who knows when it will start."WC: 405

Mielikki watched Talltale and Russet Fawn take over with the planting of the dead plant and bringing back to life. She watched as it took root in the newly amended soil. Mielikki wasn’t watching in wonder like some would, her mother did this regularly at one time. But it was still nice to see a plant thrive under a botanic’s care once more. Mielikki nodded at the two before her.
“It is done, it will do well there now.”
Mielikki now had an idea on how to handle her powers, maybe it was time to head back to her tree. She’d see if she could amend the soil of the plants stuck in containers around the tree home. Who knows, maybe they’d thrive and grow larger and better than before. Her mother tireless worked at composting and mixing her soil. It had been hard work without a familiar but when Mielikki came along, she was made to take care of the compost. Maybe that’s why she had a better affinity for fungal than botanics.
“I must return home now. Maybe I will get strong enough to help you again someday.” Mielikki finally said as she picked up her bucket and walked away. WC: 202 Total: 2,051

Fawn hadn't expected anything to come of her reviving a plant. Though, Miros would have been all foalish when she sprouted the long dried seed. Shaking her head to let it travel down her back and out her tail she nodded to Mielikki. Seems that the doe had an idea of what she was doing. Though she could use other means of executing her gift... But where was it Fawn's say in that matter, they were after all just two strangers just meeting. "Of course, safe travels home." Fawn said as Mielikki walked away leaving Fawn and Talltale watching. -Fin
