Kelly was feeling rather brave, and more than a little exhilarated after the fight. She had awakened yet another Dark Mirror senshi, and they had saved yet another of their group and beaten back the bully who was attacking them.

She looked back at Basyl and gave a smile, looking only the slightest bit sheepish. “I know you must have at least eight million questions, but I want to get somewhere that we can talk freely before I answer them. And maybe get some food too. I’ll even pay, since you got dragged into all of this!” She didn’t have much money, but dinner sounded like a good way to treat them both. It had been an insane night after all.

Glancing back at him, once again, Kelly shrugged. “You’re not like…going to have a panic attack, are you? I promise it’s not so bad being a senshi. And it’s really not so bad being a part of the Dark Mirror Court…we’re like a family, and there are a lot of us.”

And even though there were some that she still found distasteful…she didn’t hate them as she used to. She didn’t even feel the anger that she used to. “It’s…a lot to take in.”

Finally they made it to a fast food restaurant and Kelly ushered the male inside. “Order what you want and then have a seat. I’ll get to answering everything once we have food!”

It was a busy night. Basyl had been ready to pass out at home after a day of rather intense rounds in the hospital, but alas. Not this time. There were other, stranger matters to attend to. He chewed his lip, a quiet groan of a sound slipping out of his throat as his attention wandered the street around them, and he scrubbed a hand across his eyes. Kelly didn't even seem as though she found any of this strange, and it made Basyl wonder if there were happenings like this occurring elsewhere in the city even now...

He did try to offer her a small smile as she glanced back at him. "No, no panic attacks," he assured, though his fingers did fidget absently with loose threads of hair that had fallen free of their bun. "I'm a man of science, and all that. People like me should be able to roll with new information as it's presented to them."

He did kind of wish the situation had been a quieter, kinder, one. It was difficult to get behind the idea of being part of some big fight. But that other boy in white had been really adamantly offended by everyone in the Court...

It could've been bad if Kibirev hadn't showed up to do something about it.

He decided letting Kelly take him out to a late dinner wasn't too bad of a plan. She seemed like a nice girl, and it felt like they'd already done something bizarrely intimate together, anyway. And Basyl wasn't about to scoff at McDonald's greasy fries. He was pretty sure they served coffee all night too, and he could really go for a cup. Once they arrived, he ordered a hot caramel mocha coffee and a large fries and found a seat away from any prying ears. Fortunately, it was far from busy, and he didn't expect they'd have much trouble keeping to themselves.

A man of science, hm? Well then. That obviously meant he was clearly going to be having a breakdown at some point. All of this was full of magic, not logic…there wasn’t any way to pin anything down. You just had to…go with it and hope for the best.

Kelly ordered her own food and when their number was called, she made her way to the table that Basyl had claimed for the two of them. “All right. Like I said I’m sure you have a ton of questions, so…go ahead and start now! I’m ready for all of them…and those that I can’t answer, I know people who would obviously be able to! Like…my friend Acubens! She’s very, very smart and…” Kelly hesitated. “A little overwhelming with things…but she’s got a great heart. And, she’ll try to adopt you, I’m sure. Just…just let it happen. It’s not so bad. She’s really nice.”

Reaching for a fry, Kelly dipped it into her milkshake and looked thoughtful, shaking her head as she thought about Rhona. She really did like the older girl a lot, now that she had gotten to know her.

“And Remarque, he’s actually a prince of the court. He knows…well. Just about everything. I can see about setting up meetings with those two? If I don’t have the answers that you need!”

"Ahaha, well, I hope all that's not really necessary," Basyl admitted, nails scratching lightly at the side of his neck as he pondered over what had happened just up to this point. Hopefully it wasn't so complicated that it needed to involve that many people, though Basyl would be lying if he said he wasn't curious about how someone like Remarque got to know whatever 'everything' entailed in this bizarre situation.

He scratched at his neck, took a sip of his drink, pulled his legs up to fold them into the booth he'd chosen, and his focus slowly wandered back to the girl seated across from him.

"So... Those two boys in the alleyway," he started softly. "The ones that were fighting when you showed up. They were both senshi, right?" He didn't really have a basis for what anything else they would be, but Narcissus, Kibirev, and Itokawa all at least had slightly similar design elements that the other boy hadn't exactly shared. And he'd seemed really offended by that. He could assume it was a fight over any of the standard things people fought over: money, space, women, but it hadn't felt or sounded like any of that. It didn't seem like they knew each other personally. Scritch, scritch, scritch. "If we're all senshi, what do they have to fight over?"

War had been mentioned, but it sounded like such a harsh word to be something occurring in this very city Basyl called home. Shouldn't someone have noticed if there was something to that scale happening around them? There were oddities, sure, and he supposed there were people with strange injuries or hallucinations in the hospital, but most people still went about their daily lives none the wiser...

Kelly nodded, her eyes falling to her fries as she tried to think over the answer. “Well…we’re not the only senshi out there. He…he was from what’s called the White Moon, they have white bodices and…consider themselves the um. The unquestionable good guys? Most…most don’t seem so bad? But some…really get offended if people wear black. Like, they want to eliminate all…all chaos in the city, and we just so happen to wear black and have a chaotic aura…”

She thought of Adria and looked up, shaking her head. “They’re not all like that though! I know at least one, he’s my friend! He’s so kind and we’re friends. But…that guy. He seemed…crazy.” Not to mention scary.

“I don’t know why they want to fight us. All we want, so far as I know is a place to belong. Remarque talks about us trying to go to space—we found some cool places in mirror space…that was where the mirror was, when I helped you awaken? I haven’t really…done much with my area, but…” She shrugged. “That’s our…um. Our safe space.”

Though. Was it really safe? She had lost her Queen in there. She had lost so much.

“Truth to tell…it’s complicated. All of it is. But. There is also the Negaverse…they wear black like we do, but they’re…kind of dangerous. They’re like…real bad guys. They kill people sometimes, from what I’ve heard. They can literally pluck the souls from your bodies. It’s creepy. The most we do is gather energy, you know, make people a little tired, but that comes right back after they sleep…I don’t know. I don’t think we really have a side.”

"The 'unquestionable good guys?'" Basyl repeated, his brow furrowing as he said the words. "What- what is that supposed to mean?" He demanded abruptly, bright gaze swiveling up to pin on the girl in front of him. "Most people wouldn't be on a side unless they thought it was the 'right' thing, the 'good' thing to do- I have to assume that- that almost everyone must fancy themselves the 'good guys' in all of this! Declaring righteousness based on just the color you wear is- it's obtuse. I can't imagine having so little perspective for anyone else around me so as to just blindly assume-!"

Basyl huffed, sat back, folded his arms, twisted a lock of hair around his finger, frowned, and muttered. "And to immediately resort to violence. That doesn't sound like a 'good guy' to me." He wasn't sure if any of them sounded like good guys, honestly, if even his own Court had to siphon energy from someone else just to power their 'safe space...'

And having a 'chaotic aura' didn't really lend itself to sounding that great, either.

"Did I have one?" He questioned more curiously, voice softening from his initial upset. "An aura like that?" He'd only actually been with Kibirev for the few moments when he'd been powered, and Basyl had to admit to not thinking much seemed different about her then, than now. But there had been a lot of other distractions in place. It was complicated, as Kelly had said...

He sighed softly about her assertion over who the 'real' bad guys were. It would be hypocritical of him to think that a group declaring themselves the 'good guys' was more presumptuous than another being called the 'bad guys.' "You can't... generalize people like that," he murmured, wringing his finger around that lock of hair. "That guy we met- I don't think he was not trying to kill someone. So I have to assume that it probably... doesn't really matter what group someone is in. There will always be some who want to do bad things, and some who don't."

When it came down to it, if someone was trying to kill him, and all Basyl could do to save himself was fight back until the end, would he?

Kelly opened her mouth and then frowned, seeming a little uncertain. “I mean…I suppose that’s true.” It was kind of a narrow minded view, she supposed but…it was strange having that just…stated so plainly. “It was just what I was told. I…You know. You just get told things. It is kind of dumb to judge people based on what colors they wear, I will admit that fully.”

Taking a long sip of her milkshake, Kelly nodded at the second question. “Yeah. You have an aura. It felt really friendly. Just like the other senshi we helped. I mean…I don’t know how it feels to others, but I like it. And I always know when it’s another Dark Mirror senshi who’s nearby. It makes it easy to stay safe, when you know who’s around you! Some people just really like to fight, I think.”

Like Acubens even. She liked to fight. And didn’t use her head most of the time there was a fight going on. With a sigh, the girl rubbed her eyes for a moment. “I guess…anyone can be a bad person. No matter what they wear. It’s how you act. And I prefer to just…be friends with those that I meet. I think…that you should talk more than fighting. I can fight, obviously. If I have to but…I don’t like it.”

Basyl's fingers plucked at the end of his scrub top beneath his hoodie as he eyed his fries. A peculiar sense of foreboding rose in his chest, searing like bile as his mind raced over all the various information of the night. 'You just get told things...' It was supposed to be an explanation, he knew, something to justify why anyone would so easily accept and act on the thought that they were 'different' by virtue of what had awakened them, but it left Basyl uneasy. How much of what he knew even now was just something he'd been told so as to inspire mistrust among those different than him?

His first interaction with the White Moon hadn't spurred any belief in him that anything about them was good, no matter what they were told...

His gaze darted up, magenta globes rising to Kelly's face before flicking away toward the nearest window. "Who-? Who..." He twisted the end of his top and pinched the inside of his cheek with his teeth. Basyl knew what he wanted, but the question seemed difficult to fully articulate. Kibirev had awakened him, but someone else would've awakened her, and even the man she'd said knew everything- he had to come from somewhere. That thing that made them different than normal people (whatever it might be) had to come from somewhere. "Who... made us?" He settled on after a moment. "Who decided what you get told? And- and why? Why does there need to be good guys and bad guys?"

Basyl hardly knew enough to discern what about them was different besides the clothing they wore and the 'chaotic aura' Kelly spoke of, but... But a White Moon senshi wouldn't have been taken to the mirror like Kibirev did for him, right? It didn't seem like anyone besides Kibirev had been able to get there on their own, at all... "Is it something to do with Mirrorspace? They..." His gaze roamed over the inside of the store. "Don't like us gathering energy for Mirrorspace?"

For whatever reason. Kelly had said it didn't hurt anyone...

“Um…Miss Lesath made me. She’s married to Remarque, and so she…honestly, she doesn’t go out much, she has kids! Two of them, and she spends most of her time at all…I’m not really sure who made us…I…there was a Queen though! Her name was Altea and…she was great. But…” A shadow crossed her face and she sighed. “She died though so…”

Kelly shrugged and made a wry face, wondering why she was causing Basyl to make such faces and why she was saying the utterly wrong things, or at least…it felt like she was.

“I think that they just don’t like us gathering energy. It…they don’t understand. We just need it to keep a bath for us to…” To what? She didn’t really know. Hadn’t really known all of the answers but…

“I think they think we’re doing bad things with it. But we’re not. And we don’t hurt people with it. A good nap, and a good dinner and they’re just fine. Nothing more than a little winded. Tired. I…” Biting her lip, Kelly looked at the older boy and swallowed. “…I…I’m honestly. I’m trying. I…I’m still shy and I…really only joined because a friend of mine did…but now we’re not friends and I wanted to leave, but…but we’re a family. And everyone works so hard to be my friends here and I just…really like it, and even if I’m kind of not knowledgeable on anything…I’m really happy that you’re a part of our family too!”

Oh.

Oh, right.

He wouldn't actually recognize any of the names she used to define 'who' had made them. Basyl's blush crept up his neck, over his cheeks, and out to his ears. It was a bit of a worthless question to even ask then, if the answer didn't mean anything to him... But he supposed he'd hoped for some omnipotent source that they all turned to, as if this was based in some kind of religion and that there was a higher power from which this magic came...

"It just... is a lot to try and take in all at once," he reasoned quietly. "And I don't really understand how it all happened. O-or why..." But it didn't sound as if Kelly knew the surrounding circumstances with certainty, either.

Basyl dabbed a fry in a squirt of ketchup, twisting it around noncommittally as he observed the meal through half-mast, vibrant magenta eyes. "I guess I can understand their fear," he admitted slowly. "When you don't know why someone is behaving oddly, it tends to garner suspicion..." Not so different than when one nation started hoarding missiles. 'What do you need that for. What are you going to do with it. Why. Why.' He popped the fry in his mouth.

For another faction to see them gathering resources for an unknown purpose... "I think I would like to know," Basyl commented off-handedly with a shrug.

Kelly sighed. “It really is. I’m so sorry! I’m just confusing you…and just saying too much that you don’t know.” She made a face and looked upset with her own inadequacy. “I should have just brought you right to Remarque…he…He really does know everything. He’s very nice…I!” She pulled out her phone and went through her contacts. “Here! If you want, I have his number!”

She looked hopeful and gave a small smile. “…I know I’m not that helpful. I’m so sorry. I…I guess I’m better at teaching by doing…and I’m sorry for dragging you into this so uncouthly…but, I’m so glad that you helped me. I feel like we saved someone tonight…and yeah. I can see just why the white moon might be suspicious but…”

With a sigh she took a long drink of her own milkshake.

“That’s no excuse to try to kill someone! You should talk things out before just…trying to be a monster.”

"Er, well, it's not really your fault," Basyl replied, folding his arms in front of him as he slouched forward. "The topic is somewhat convoluted. I don't even really know what to ask that would clarify much," he admitted. Everything had happened so abruptly and seemingly without reason. There were only small splotches of information coming into focus from an overall large and blurry picture. Even if he tried to think back to the situation...

He took a breath, blowing out his exhale at a strand of hair that dangled in his face.

He knew that the White Moon senshi and the other Dark Mirror boy had been fighting because they were part of different groups. Kelly had told him 'White Moon' and 'Dark Mirror Court' and 'Negaverse,' and he understood that there was some mistrust from the White Moon toward the Court over their energy gathering. That could surely instigate a fight on its own. He didn't need to question those motives further. Basyl didn't really know what had spurred Kibirev into even talking to him at that point, though. It wasn't like he'd known what was going on. "Did you really need help? You and that other boy would've outnumbered the White Moon senshi just between the two of you... Could you have asked anyone? If it was someone else at the bus stop that happened to be watching that fight, would it have made a difference to you?"

And that kitten. He'd actually been the one to talk to Basyl first, and he'd hardly acknowledged the fight going on nearby except for to note that it was something Basyl was watching. "What was that cat?" And while they were on the topic of what things were: "What even is a senshi?" Kelly had said the word much earlier, and he'd latched to it as if it meant something to him.

But it didn't.

"It's what you are and what I am, and those boys too, but why? What does it mean?"

Kelly made a face and began chewing on her thumbnail, trying to figure out how to answer. If anything, Basyl asked really good questions…and she was just throwing words at him…and that was no way to explain anything.

“…It means…you have magic within you. That you were born with the power to use magic. You…get it from what your sphere is…he…that cat said it was rejection? So…that is what your powers are based off of…” She hesitated and frowned when she managed to bite right through the nail and sighed, tearing it off with her other hand and folding the broke nail into a napkin. “…That sounds mighty lonely. My power is Foxgloves…like the flower? My brother…he’s the Senshi of Mandragora. And I asked you because of the cat. He was a guardian cat. They help us senshi. They can sense when one of us is unawakened…and they can help our powers grow!”

Kelly sighed and stared down at her lap. “Yeah. I might not have needed you but. I’m not completely confident…and three sounded like a lot better odds than just two. That guy was…honestly scary.”

Right, Basyl had seen the others using magic when they fought. Weird magic: cinnamon and mushrooms? It certainly wasn't the type of powers he'd expect, completely unlike what people in shows and movies who were born with magic could do. It seemed like it would be better to just outright be a wizard and use all kinds of strange spells.

But this was nice too, he supposed. Just odd.

He glanced down to his hands, flexing his fingers in his lap as if they might do something right then, though he didn't feel any great deal different now than he had when he woke up this morning. Mostly confused and surprised. He blinked tired eyes from his hands and back to Kelly. "What, mm... What can I do then? With this sphere? What can you do with yours? How did the guardian cat know I could do magic? How many guardian cats are around? Is it- Is it all cats? None of them have ever spoken to me like that before..." And if he'd been born with these abilities, it felt strange that no cat he'd encountered within the last twenty-five years had thought to tell him about it.

It didn't sound like it was something everyone could do, though. A cat didn't just see a any random person and decide to grant them abilities, from the way Kelly was talking about it. "If you didn't need me, then I guess I should just consider myself lucky for being in the right place at the right time, or I never would've known about any of this..."

Kelly nodded, thinking for a moment. “Yeah! Well…with your magic…we can try it out, we can practice together! I can do that pretty well at least, and with my magic…it calms people down. It’s very useful when someone is attacking me, they calm down and I can get away, which is…which is very good for me. I…I like getting away.”

She grinned sheepishly. “I…the cats can sense that you’re a senshi…I don’t know how they do it…magic, I guess…but. I’m gald that I was in the right place to get you! It’s…nice to have a new friend…I know…it’s been a lot of things to process but…”

Kelly smiled and shrugged. “…Now you get to be a part of our family, and I’ll introduce you to everyone, and all of your questions will be answered and everything will be awesome. Just…trust me okay? I’ll do everything I can to help, and I’ll make sure that things…make more sense! I’ll get you better answers, do you want my phone number? I can be there for you whenever you need me!”

Because that was what family did.
