It had been several days since her parents' status had been shifted to critical condition and the effect it was having on Izobel was dire. The teen was actively playing two roles for those that might have been watching. During the day she was the dutiful daughter who took it upon herself to stay near their bedsides in hopes that a friendly, familiar voice would be enough to cajole them back to being less than the shells that they appeared to be. At night though when things quieted down Izobel would silently slip away to try and get any sort of lead on the agent who had left her mom and dad in this precarious situation. Precarious might have been even too much of a gentle word for how the whispers were starting to circulate that if things didn't improve it might be too late.

It was those whispers and the looks she was getting from random staff that had driven Izobel out of the hospital that evening. Even as she changed into her powered self the teenager still couldn't shake the sensation that something needed to be done and quickly at that. Lacerta couldn't stand the fact that she'd not been able to track down the agent responsible for her parents' attack and it hadn't been for a lack of effort. It was like the woman had disappeared from the face of the earth.

Figuring it was best to stay out of sight Lacerta took to the rooftop nearest to her before closing her eyes and trying to suss out the energy signatures around her. It wasn't an exact science and sometimes she guessed wrong but she needed to find an aura that was weaker than she was .. and then maybe she'd be able to get some answers. Although she had no idea on how she was going to get those answers. Her magical powers were based on healing and that wasn't on the table. She needed to be blunt and direct and that wasn't really her but if there was a chance she could save her folks then maybe she could adapt her fighting style - somehow.

Since returning to the Dark Kingdom from her Winter vacation with Wolframite, Lavendulan had kind of taken a bit of a hiatus in terms of patrol duties for the last almost two months while the two of them recovered. During that time, if she wasn’t working on repairing the damage to their relationship then she was in one of the research facilities working on a new prototype for Queen Laurelite. An item that would be useless to most officers but would allow her, and others like her, to extend their glamour time beyond the current time constraints.

As it was, she had reached a point where more energy was needed for this little project and rather than ask for some from the reserves, Laven had instead sought out a General from the cafeteria to taxi her to Destiny City. At least they were kind enough to not ask for compensation otherwise she would have to pull Wolframite away from his current tasks and if she did that he would inevitably join her as well.

It wasn’t so much that she didn’t want his company rather that she had become acutely aware that she needed to get stronger. A year had already come and gone since Lopezite found her at the lakehouse and took her under his wing, a year and she was still a weak Lieutenant, begging for someone to take her outside like a child who was not old enough to go out on their own. It was humiliating at time and, to be frank, a huge pain in the a**; but there was no real way to work around it.

Her hope had been that by proving her devotion to the negaverse by completing this project for their Queen, she would have earned the right to a promotion. That is assuming that is how those things worked. Honestly, she wasn’t sure… All she had to go off of was Lopezite, Wolframite and Tinaksite’s experiences and even then the circumstances and reasoning around them were confusing and without consistency.

Either way, freedom was still the main goal here and once she became a Captain she would no longer have to ask around for help. That in and of itself was reason not to give up and keep trucking along.

Lavendulan drew in a deep breath of that crip yet chill air then exhaled slowly. The cold bite awoke her senses much like a fresh cup of hot coffee now that she was free of the confines of the unfortunate place she was forced to call home. Living in the barracks really sucked and really wasn’t suited for long time residency.

At least Spring was definitely coming which was evident by the few cherry trees that were starting to bloom. Hopefully this summer, if the rings were ready, she would have the ability to hold a job again and enjoy the sun she so desperately craved. In the meantime, however, she had a task and in order to complete it she needed to find some civilians to drain.

On nights like these Lacerta wondered what was really driving others to be out and about. There was still a bite to the air but for the most part the redhead merely shrugged off the weather conditions. She had a purpose in her stride as she took off from her starting point and cold weather wasn't going to dissuade her from achieving results. As she hopped from building to building the ends of her cowl flapped behind her the teen's thoughts turned to what she needed to do. As determined as she was to try and get answers to the search that lay before her there was something deep inside that wondered if she had the skills necessary for the task at hand. Violence wasn't in her blood but what other choice could she have to force answers? There'd not be someone working for the negaverse that would be willing just to share answers, was there?

So lost in her thoughts of what she could do Lacerta almost missed the signs that she was looking for. An aura of chaos, weaker than she was, had bloomed in her mind while she'd been lost in mental musing and the sounds of a scuffle arose had her changing direction. Deciding that she'd rather be on the ground saw the teen leaving the roofline in order to approach from the ground. If the alley was a blind one she could corral her target - couldn't she? The sounds of a scuffle had died down and Lacerta moved into the alleyway to watch the proceedings. It was time to make a decision - push forward with her plan or leave. But seeing a figure slumped on the ground brought back images of her parents attack which decided her actions. She stepped firmly into the alley and put her hands on her hips before clearing her throat. Whomever she had run into was going to be in for a long night.

The goal was to not be seen, to use her water form in order to get close to her target and then siphon off a bit of energy.

No harm, no foul.

Unfortunately, it seemed that she was a bit out of practice in that her own carelessness had caused the woman to turn around when she caught sight of Laven’s reflection in a car window while she waited for a bus. The shrill scream was startling in its own right, causing the half-youma’s ears to ring and for a moment she was happy that Wolframite wasn’t here since his hearing was more sensitive than hers was.

Carefully she moved the woman to the alleyway away from any dumpsters and set her down so that her back was against the brick wall. Brown curls cascaded over the woman's shoulder as she slumped to the side having been panic-drained just to shut her up before she could bring too much attention to the situation.

Seemed it was all for not, however, when a strong aura approached from behind and cleared her throat.

Lavendulan’s body tensed, her pupils drew into thin lines as she tried to suppress a growl of warning. Her youma side did not much care to be cornered like prey, although thankfully she had a unique way out of a situation like this.

“Can I help you?” She asked, eyes narrowing warily in the Senshi’s direction.

"Can I help you?"

Could she be helped? Lacerta sighed before relaxing her stance just a little. It was no use posturing when she'd not the skill to back up her physical presence but at the same time her mind clamoured to get answers. Maybe whatever this 'thing' was could provide some useful information; but the question remained of how to get at said information. Idly brushing a stray lock of titian-coloured hair out of her line of sight brought upon a realisation of how she might get some information from her chosen target for the evening. The question remained of how she could implement her sudden idea. Did she need to subdue the target or would asking politely work?

Scoffing mentally at that idea Lacerta exhaled loudly before taking a step further into the alley. Her voice was soft as if she were approaching a wild animal, "I don't suppose you could help answer some questions I might have for you this evening ... it wouldn't be a lot. Trust me."

Bringing her hands up in front of her in a placating gesture Lacerta took another step forward. The idea was for cooperation but if that didn't work then she didn't wish to spook this individual into doing something rash.

“You can ask your questions from where you’re at, there’s no reason to come any closer.” Pupils pulled into thin slits, Laven’s eyes narrowed at the senshi. Even though the use of her magic would allow for an easy escape, she didn’t really didn’t appreciate feeling like her back was against the wall or that she was being cornered.

Laven quickly yet carefully finished propping the woman up against the side of the building before rising to her feet. Even at her full height, she had to look up at the senshi.

“Heh…” <******** my life She mentally rolled her eyes. Of course she’d be stronger and taller. Sometimes it really sucked being only 5’2”, but at least it made her harder to hold onto which was a bonus she guessed.

“I won’t guarantee you’ll like my answers, assuming I have them that is.” Sure there was gossip in the Dark Kingdom cafeteria at times but she rarely ate in there anyways. If anything of importance was said she might only have half the story at best.

Giving a disapproving look at the woman that had been propped up against the wall Lacerta had to press her fingers into her palms to keep from doing something that she would most certainly regret. It wouldn't be wise to charge in guns-a-blazing especially when she still wasn't one hundred percent sure what she was up against. As long as they were speaking though, almost civil-like at that, there'd be no need to resort to violence - was there?

Drawing out the silence long enough the redheaded teen bit her lower lip before taking a step closer. She wanted answers and maybe she could get some tonight but she'd have to be careful. "I'm curious if you'd know anything about an agent attacking people a few nights ago. I was too late to stop the incident but I was hoping that I could maybe describe the attacker you might be able to give me a name."

It was tough to pretend that she wasn't trying to close the distance as she spoke and yet she didn't try to hide the fact as another step taken put her that much closer to the creature. She swallowed nervously and gently ran one gloved hand over the other and over the ring that she wore. Maybe this idea wouldn't bear fruit. But what if it did? Could the reward be greater than the risk?

really sorry on the delay, and sorry for the short tag

For the briefest of moments Laven’s expression shifted to one of interest. It was fleeting, however, it was most definitely there. Was it possible that she encountered the one that had turned her into a half youma? Could it be that the agent that, for all intents and purposes, killed her might be up to their old habits again?

“I’m willing to listen, but keep in mind I’m just a lieutenant. Nobody really talks to me especially since I’m a half-youma.” Full ones were treated like pets by some, a personal companion that went on patrols with their agent and listened to their commands. From what she was told there was a chance she might have one too but she would have to reach captain first to be able to claim one.

“I function on a need to know basis.” This meant that more than likely if there was some sort of uprising or active mission, then she was not in the loop of any specifics or details. But she may have overheard someone boasting about some score that had been settled or hard-fought battled that had been won. “So, tell me, what did this person look like?”

Descriptions. Oh s**t. Lacerta hadn't really seen much of the agent, had she? The need to close her eyes in order to recall the scene wasn't as much help as she had hoped for but at least she had something to go off of. Mentally she kicked herself. Time faded even the most subtle details but there were two that Lacerta seemed to recall with clarity. Her gaze flicked to the side as she spoke softly, "First of all I know that this agent was female. She seemed to be on your level of power and if I am remembering correctly she had orange hair."

Lacerta wasn't one hundred percent sure on height or anything but just perhaps she had an idea on how things could be easier on both her and this youma. Reaching into her subspace pocket the teen held up a pair of earrings that sparkled faintly in the scarce light the alley was receiving from the street behind her. "Look, I'm not exactly sure on the science behind these things - but I think if it works - we could share thoughts. It'd be a lot easier to just show you what I remember, right?"

It was a long shot. Maybe this half-youma didn't want to go along with the idea. Lacerta figured that she could try a diplomatic approach first and if that failed - force.
