Lunch had finished, and the weyrlings had been told to assemble in front of the Barracks in the Bowl. Both rider and dragon were expected to attend, and the lesson would begin precisely on time. Anyone late from lunch would certainly hear about it.

V'res stood in front of his brown, Tagtarth, arms crossed. To be early was to be on time, and to be on time was to be late. It was one of the first lessons the weyrlings learned and one all the weyrlingmaster's took seriously.. He had high expectations, and dawdling was not something to be tolerated. The weyrlings would learn to move hurriedly from one place to another; talking during lectures was more than frowned upon, and he would not hesitate to call out said individuals and ask what exactly was more important than the life-saving lessons they would be learning.. In many instances, when one was punished, the entire class would be.

The weyrlingmaster's were not here to make friends, afterall. Their job was to keep the pairs alive throughout training, and ensure they would be a full-fledged wingrider upon graduation. Each lesson would build on the one before it, and all were to be taken seriously -- this sort of training wasn't a game, and V'res didn't care how old her weyrlings were, or how much they thought they knew about dragon riding.

Today was no different.

Tagtarth rested behind his rider as the weyrlings began to approach. His brown hide glistened in the sun, and he rumbled fond greeting to each of the pairs as they neared. Form a half-circle please. Quickly now, quickly. His eyes whirled a happy green, though he was quietly assessing each of the pair as they approached -- did their hide look well, did any look to be limping, were their wings folded properly, were there any visible cuts or scrapes, were their tails properly tapered -- but he knew they would get a closer assessment soon.

V'res waited until it was time for the lesson to begin, and took note of any faces scrambling in during the last minute. "Listen up," he spoke loudly, enough to cut over the din of sociable weyrling. "Today' is your second official Health Assessment. I will call you up individually to discuss any concerns, ailments, or issues that might be plaguing you or your weyrling. Don't hesitate to inform us if something seems amiss -- the more we know, the healthier you and your bonded will be. The sooner we catch something wrong, the sooner we can make plans to fix it." He gave a small grunt, letting his eyes move over the assembled crowd.

"While you wait to be called up, spend time bonding with those you don't know. You are all part of the same team, and are now wingmates. You will be relying on one another as the sevenday's pass. I don't want to see the same faces only interacting with their close friends. Spread out. Talk. Learn something new about one of your wingmates, and remember it, because I'll be asking you once you come up for your assessment. Your dragons are to do the same."

Glancing at the group, V'res chose his first victim, and called them up. He wanted to get a good look at their dragonet, and see if there were any concerns that might warrant extra attention.

- - - -

OOC: Horse Clutch you're up!

I'm backdating this a bit since I had wanted to get this out there sooner than now. We're going to say your little dragons are about three weeks old for this lesson. By this point your weyrling should know the expectations of weyrlinghood.

Check ups aren't necessarily new. This would be their third checkup--they usually have one once every sevenday or two though as they get older, they'll become more infrequent. V'res and other weyrlingmasters and assistants will be looking for common ailments that dragon babies tend to suffer from, and each assessment will happen mostly one-on-one. V'res will call the weyrling forward, check them over with Tagtarth, ask a few questions, and then send them back to continue bonding with their group.

If you want there to be something wrong with your dragonet -- whether your rider is aware or not -- or if your rider has some concerns, either let me know in your tag or you can roll for it!

Anyone who has a PC Weyrlingmaster or Weyrlingmaster Assistant is also fine to jump in!

WE WILL BE LETTING YOU GUYS ROLL ALL AT ONCE. No need to wait to be called since that will gum this up.

If you want to see how "bad" your ailment is, since many could have a scale, roll a second D20 along with your ailment!
1-5: Very bad!
6-10: Not great!
11-15: Needs attention but should be caught just in time.
16-20: Just happened so should likely be easily taken care of with proper attention/changes.

Additionally, you may roll for multiple ailments if you desire, or you may skip the grid and take perfect health. If you choose this, and if you roll for future sevendays, we ask you only take one sevenday of good health. Dragons tend to be relatively healthy, but most of these ailments are common among dragonkin-- particularly young weyrlings!

Common Dragonet Ailments
1. Sensitive Stomach: They eat but have trouble keeping food down. They could not be chewing properly, could be swallowing their food whole, could be given too big (or too small) chunks, or could be eating things they shouldn't be. May need to see a dragon healer if it doesn't resolve.

2. Broken/Tender Nail - They broke a nail or have a partial break past the quick. In most cases, the nail can be trimmed and will grow back. If infection sets in, it may require some application of redword and numbweed and some care from a dragonhealer. Common ailment among active dragons.

3. Infected Cut / Scrape - Common ailment among active dragonets. A cut or scrape seems to be getting infected. Soaking the wound in redwort might do the trick, but if the cut/scrape is bad enough, it may need drained and proper healer attention.

4. Overly Itchy Dragon - The weyrling needs a remedial lesson in oiling. Either they're missing spots, or aren't applying liberally enough. This could result in cracks which can be fatal or risk infection.

5. New Dry Patch of Skin - Poor oiling (or too light oiling) has now resulted in an actual dry patch. This patch could have the beginning of cracks and will take a few sevendays of extra oiling to ensure it heals. Thankfully, it looks newly formed, and should clear up.

6. Severe Dry Patch of Skin - What had been a new dry patch of skin a sevenday ago has gotten worse. Something's not right, the area is painful, and your dragon likely irritable. This patch is going to need actual dragonhealer attention and daily soaking in numbweed, along with ample oiling. The cracks might be visible and infected in the worse cases.

7. Thicktail - Oh no! Your dragon seems to have some indigestion. Their tail is thick (or beginning to get thick) which means you may need to help try to coax your dragon into ... a bowel movement. If caught early enough, you may be able to keep your dragon from getting constipated. If it's late in the game, you're going to have to help. Sometimes massaging of the tail and stomach can help, but depending on their size, you may need to give them an enema. Your dragonet probably isn't feeling so great and might have a lack of appetite. Thicktail is common, and never usually pleasant.

8. Strained Muscle - Your little dragonet pulled something! This could have been from pushing themselves too hard. The strained muscle isn't yet a full sprain, but if they're not careful or if it goes uncorrected, it could result in a full-fledged strain! They may need to rest the injured muscle--so good luck keeping them down especially at this age!

9. Cracked Skin - Somehow, you missed a spot while oiling your dragon, and the skin has actually cracked. At its worst, it could be infected and in need of healer attention immediately! Either way, it's going ot need to be given daily application of redwort and your oiling practices may need to be checked! Cracks in the skin can be fatal form infection, but can kill a dragon who goes between so it is imperative to learn to catch these things early or prevent them from happening at all.

10. Bitten Tongue - Your dragon bit his or her tongue. This is common (and will be more so later on when they start chewing firestone) but it can be unpleasant and uncomfortable for everyone involved. THe most severe bite wounds can lead to infection if not properly cared for or looked at--and abscesses can be common. Local application of redwort and even possibly some numbweed (in small, localized amounts) might be necessary for severe wounds--smaller ones may just need a little time to heal..

11. Regurgitation Post-Meals- This could be a sign of eating too quickly, eating too much, or a symptom of another problem! Healer attention will be needed to determine the cause. This is not common!

12. Lethargic - Your dragon seems to low on energy. In some cases it is purely a personality trait, but it's better to get it checked and looked at then not at all. In other cases it could be a symptom of some other illness. Healer attention may be required.

13. Overeating/Bloatedness - Your dragon has a tendency to overeat or has been feeling uncomfortable. There may be some gas that has to pass, or some food that isn't digesting right. In some cases this can simply come down to how the meat is being cut, or how your dragon is chewing; in other cases, it might be the result of what your dragon is eating, especially if they got into something they shouldn't! This can turn into thicktail, if it hasn't already!

14. Overweight for Color - This dragon needs to eat less, or be a bit more active. While some dragons are on the heavier side, this particular weight issue isn't due to their natural weight--but likely due to the dragon sneaking treats, eating the wrong type of food, or their rider being a push over and feeding them extra between meals.

15. Underweight for Color - This dragon needs to eat more or at least be observed in how they eat. If they're eating just as much as another dragon, something else could be going on. If they're eating too little, or have a very picky palette, they may need to be encouraged to eat more.

16. Muscle Cramps - Your dragon suffered a muscle cramp which could use some massaging. They may need to lay low for a day or two, and if it's a particularly bad cramp, or happens regularly, the dragonhealers might have a small drought to try to relax the muscles.

17. Rash from Over Oiling - While some might be under-oiled, your poor dragon seems to be getting oiled too much. Yes, there is such a thing. Your dragon now has a rash that could be irritated, or it could be from over-use of the paddles and brushes, irritating their hide. It's possible your weyrling may need to have their oiling habits reassessed by the weyrlingmaster(s) to see where you might be going wrong.

18. Toothache - Your dragon has a toothache. At best, it's only temporary and just a growing pain as they age. At worst, there's an infection--perhaps something is stuck in his or her teeth, and irritating the gum; perhaps it's an actual abscess. Depending on severity could just be as simple as getting something stuck out, or might need actual dragonhealer attention.

19. Dehydration - This dragon needs to drink more water! The weyrling would be encouraged to ensure their dragon is drinking enough. They would likely be assigned immediately to take them to nearby weyrlake for a long drink. It's also possible their dragon gets to the water, and either plays in it instead of drinking, or gets so sociable with fellows and others, or is so nervous, they're just not drinking as much as they should and hurry through.

20. Sprained Muscle - Something went wrong somewhere and your dragon is in substantial amount of pain and irritability. They are unable to extend or put much weight on a limb, tail, or wing, and are keeping it close to their body. This may require nothing but time to heal--and might result in having to keep them down and settled until they're given healer clearance.

If you want your dragon to be in good health, that's okay too! Same if you want to come up with your own issue, or just pick something (or multiple somethings) from the list that would make sense for your dragonet. I just wanted to offer some fun! Just let me know in your response to Liat's summons.

Remember, mistakes happen so possible injuries or wounds are common. This is only your weyrlings third week, and V'res does not expect them to know the signs for every possible issue. The hatchlings might even be trying to hide their illness or hurt from their rider. All of this is okay! No one will be punished, but they will be taught how to remedy the situation, reminded of the signs, and possibly sent to a dragonhealer for extra aid if necessary. This is all a learning experience!

Anyone who doesn't post will just be assumed to have their pair checked up on, so no pressure!

For those waiting, remember, you're supposed to be meeting new faces! So if you want to tag someone your character doesn't know well, go for it! Or, if you don't want to interact with others, just post something so I know you're interested in an assessment, and then wait for me to get to you!

You may also roll multiple ailments if you think your dragonet might have had a rough week. You may also pick an ailment if you see one that is fitting.

If you would like we can have this open for the next three sevendays and you can roll from the grid each week to see if things have improved or gotten worse!

Future Sevenday Rolls: You may re-roll for another 3 sevendays of time if you wish! Either in this thread or the main guild.

1-10. They're getting wrose, oh no! Depending on the ailment, you may have no choice but to see a dragonhealer!
11-30. They're getting better! Not by much, but there is some improvement. Maybe another sevenday and they should be just fine, provided nothing else goes wrong!
31-50. You took the advice of the Weyrlingmaster(s) and things seem to be all right now! Your dragon is feeling much better!
51-65. Well, they were doing all right -- but now there's something else going on. Re-Roll from the ailment grid and see what's going on!
66-80. They're not getting better, and now there's another ailment happening on top of the results of last week! Roll from the ailment grid to see what's going on!
81-100 They are a picture of perfect draconic health. Bravo, well done!

Bad Thicktail - boys plz

Telling them to spread out their interactions was...easier said than done. D'rok had no qualms with any of his fellow Weyrlings and as such, would have happily spoke with any of them. But Khazariath was guarded enough that he needed extra nudges from His. Those who were safe would have been flocked to more readily than any he was uncertain of.

I won't let any of them hurt you, you know, D'rok assured his bronze, still completely wound up in the high of that thought - His, His, His. Khazariath leaned mentally into the young man, soaking up that adoration. I do not think so low of my siblings that I think they would harm me. I just... Khazariath hesitated, and D'rok ran a hand idly over one of his headknobs. You think one may accidentally? he asked. He didn't get an answer, but knew it to be true.

He'd not gotten the young dragon over to any of his siblings before it was their turn to be looked over - and D'rok was rather ashamed of what looked to be utter neglect on his part. Thicktail - Khazariath hadn't been overfed, so it had to be a lack of water and perhaps a lack of....activity. "I'll work on both," he relented, immediately wrapping his head around a battle plan.

If it came to more direct solutions....he'd give it only a little time before he resorted to them.

((OOC: Thicktail and don't look great sad ))

It has been a few weeks since Valeska’s life as she knew it changed for the better. The day was now fill with everything concerning Trimestreth. She was so happy with the new sense of purpose and duty in her life that she really couldn’t figure out what do with her overwhelming feelings. Every day was a new day of excitement, an excitement that shadows a pocket of fear inside her.

Valeska was always someone who worked hard but worried and doubted her own efforts every step of the way. The first few days, she woke up with nightmares of somehow loosing Trimestreth because of her own negligence and ignorance of dragonhood. She also had the occasional nightmare of Trimestreth re-bonded to another candidate which she strongly suspected was nearly impossible…. Maybe…. But Trimestreth was patient and insistent that Valeska’s worries were all for not. In fact, Tremestreth believed hers should not doubt such an easily made decision.

It took almost two weeks for all the jitters to finally calm down and for Valeska to get more comfortable with things. But soon another issue began to present itself nearly the end of their second week together. The usually happy, reassuring, lovely Trimestreth started getting a little quiet less …. like herself. It was hard to explain to others which made her hesitate to bring it up to anyone. However, she began to have an unsettled feeling in her stomach and started fussing over the little green more than usual. She tried to make sure every for the young dragon was as perfect as can be. However, things did not seem to get better.

By the lesson, Valeska was sure there was something wrong. Unfortunately, Trimestreth was a dragon that did not like to linger on her own problems. She brushed off any worries or questions regarding her own well-being. However, as they walked over to the WeyrlingMaster for this lesson that day, Valeska noticed how much slower with green was waddling. Maybe it was the tail? It looked bigger than normal? But they were also growing so she wasn’t very educated on what grows first. She bit her lips in worry. Well, it was a good thing it was Health Assessment day. The WeyrlingMaster will surely be able to let her know if anything is wrong.

As she waited nervously for her turn, she looked around bashfully. She had been such a worrying mess that she had not really met anyone else. It was such normal thing for her, to not talk to others, that she really didn’t think anything of it. However, surely Trimestreth would want the company of her clutchmates more so she should make an effort. Don’t worry about me, Mine. You do things at your own pace./color] Valeska shot a doubtful look towards the green who just yawned.
