                              xxxSummaryxxxxxxxxxx

Wanderlust left with a small party almost five moons ago and no one from Homewood has heard from them since. Concerned, Vilalta determines to put together a search party and rescue Wanderlust and their unfortunate crew. She gathers several familiars and sends them to all parts of homewood and beyond with a single message:

                            • Join her as soon as you are able in the heart of Homewood, where Wanderlust made their home.
                            • She asks for all those who are able and willing to aid her search into finding and rescuing Wanderlust from the barrens.

Wanderlust’s home grove is in disarray. They live in a small clearing between young trees, flecked with yellow flowers. Their shelter is carved into the hollow trunk of a dead redwood, large enough for several noulicorns to comfortable traipse. There are carvings inside the trunk, notes left behind, strange containers filled with alien substances. Wanderlust was truly a collector of odd things.

But in this instance, it’s helpful. Vilalta and the other noulicorns of Homewood have no idea where Wanderlust went, but searching their home may unearth some clues.

                              WANDERLUST - they/them

A mysterious ascended vivify noulicorn that appears in Homewood from time to time, known for their adventurous streak and grand discoveries. Wanderlust found the first set of jack hop bones and brought the species back from extinction. Eccentric but kindly, they’re appearance in Homewood always causes a stir - both good and bad. Wanderlust’s insatiable need to explore has gotten them into trouble before, but they’ve never been away from Homewood for so long.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.VILTALTA - she/her

An ascended Atmos doe, one of the oldest noulicorns in Homewood. She is treated as a respected elder among many noulicorns, wise and experienced. She herself worships Grandfather Tree and the gifts it bestows upon the nouls. She is unwavering in her beliefs and sometimes frightens others with her extremism, but no one can deny how much she’s helped keep Homewood lush and safe.

Viltalta has grudging respect for Wanderlust. Their personalities and ideals are vastly different from one another, but she would not see another elder lost forever to the barrens.

Viltalta had done all that she could. If none came to her call, she would simply have to set out on her own. She had been through the barrens many times in her long years and she had survived every journey thus far. Water would never be an issue for such a powerful atmos user and Grandfather Tree would guide her to all else she required. But she would not have to journey alone, she was certain of it. The nouls of Homewood - the brave, the curious, the kind-hearted - would come. She’s sent many familiars out to all corners of the resurrected world. A few through the miles of lush, verdant forests of Homewood, a couple cautious scuttle scales to the bog, agile jack hops to the ruins, and the toughest of them to the barrens themselves to find those who already wandered there.

They would come, she knew.

She stood in the glade of Wanderlust’s home, her dark wings outstretched to catch the warmth of the sun. The grass had grown long enough to tickle her belly, smattered with smiling yellow flowers that bobbed as Vilalta flapped her wings and tucked them neatly to her sides.

It was a mess. Discarded pieces of metal from the Others leaned haphazardly on the surrounding yearling trees. The old dead redwood Wanderlust made their bed crawled with moss and stank of strangeness, even now, when the old noul had been gone for several moons. She didn't want to go inside it, but she’d have to. She had no idea where Wanderlust set their destination to. She wasn’t certain Wanderlust had a destination in mind when they left.

But there must be something. Viltalta could not - would not - send nouls wandering directionless through the wasteland.

Grandfather tree would guide them to the knowledge they needed to help Wanderlust. And if he didn’t, perhaps Wanderlust was simply not meant to be found.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Of course Ralir had heard the name Wanderlust before. Considering Father's obsession with recording the comings and goings of various noulicorns, it'd have been impossible otherwise. When the little jackhop had traipsed into the den Ralir shared with his father, Ralir hadn't had much of a choice to make. Viltalta was an ascended doe, so she must know what she was doing. A large search party would have a better chance of seeing results. And if Ralir himself wasn't skilled enough yet - well, he'd understand that, but he needed to head over anyway, to learn what was going on, and what he might prepare himself to do someday.

He stepped into the grove hesitantly, tail held aloft behind him as to avoid dragging it in the soil or on the leaves. It'd been a while since Wanderlust had left, certainly, so nature would have blown over hoofprints that weren't protected from the elements, but it was always important to be careful.

It didn't look like Wanderlust had an especially organized garden, but he kept to the established path, too. The little grove wasn't crowded yet, but there was Viltalta, in the clearing. Ralir had to hide a gasp as he spotted her. An ascended's wings were always an awe-inspiring sight: what exactly had Viltalta done, to earn her that blessing? She could tell the tale to someone who asked, but only she would ever know.

He wasn't sure where exactly was safe to step, though. Wanderlust's home grove seemed disorderly, to say the least, not like Father's veritable museum with its careful rows. Still, though, an ascended noul had asked for help, so Ralir had to put himself forward. There was no learning by sitting on the sidelines, right...? "Excuse me," Ralir said, polite but certain. No one else was speaking, but he liked to have clarification. "Ah...Viltalta? I've arrived in response to a message from a jackhop. I'm certainly willing to help your search - but I have to admit I don't have much in the way of qualifications." His ears twitched as he gave another glance about the grove. "I've only just received my Gift, see - but I'll do what I can, if you'll have me."

If you haven't heard about Wanderlust, well... Krima didn’t know what to say. They were probably one of the most explorative Noulicorns that Krima herself had ever heard about, and they’d certainly been the envy of quite a few adventure-seeking Nouli’s. For her part, Krima believed that there was more work to be done within the confines of the space they already knew, The barrens, The Ruins ect. And that there was no need to go further until the areas were healed properly. Still, when she heard that they and a small group had gone missing... This was something to be alarmed about.

So of course when the message came to her door, Krima decided she would join the party right away. The barrens weren’t really her favorite place, though which of the unhealed areas was her favorite? But still, if she could help the area even just a little while they looked for Wanderlust then why not? She didn't know really how she could help, but there was also the fact that Viltalta would be there and that was someone Krima was eager to meet since both shared the gift of atmos. Maybe she’d learn a thing or two.

So off she went. Her first stop was Wanderlust’s home grove. It was quite pretty, if not filled with all manners of things. It was big enough for a few Nouli’s to go in and so she moved in to get a closer look. She couldn’t help but stare at the strange carvings of the redwood tree. What could they mean? Was it the language of The Other? And of all places, why would they have carved such things in their home? Krima moved on to the notes after that, using her nose to shuffle through them and see if maybe anything stood out to her.

Relief flooded Viltalta as the first nouls trickled into Wanderlust's grove. Her messengers had done their job, then. Her wings ruffled noisily as she stepped forward to greet the new-comings, both of them so young, so new to this world. She could smell how fresh their magic was. The willfulness and health of the young could help them get far in the barrens, though. She would take all the help she could gather.

“All eyes are important to the search,” she said to RALIR.

The edge of her lip curled upward as she spotted KRIMA heading straight for Wanderlust’s hollowed tree. Right to business, that one. Good.

The insistent ruffle of those huge wings made Ralir's ears perk up even more, and he could feel his muscles tense as Viltalta - a real, live ascended noulicorn! - started to address him. She was kind about it, too, though he wasn't sure he had expected otherwise. He nodded his head jerkily, though, clearly a bit star-struck by the interaction. "Thank you for the opportunity!" he said, the words running together at the beginning.

He moved quickly to follow Krima in her search. The doe looked familiar, and it seemed like searching the hollowed out tree here was their goal. Viltalta at least hadn't said anything about it, so he might as well follow suit. He stepped gingerly into the hollow of the tree, and began examining the carvings in the wall first. He'd want something important to be permanent, so he didn't forget.

He wasn't sure exactly what he was searching for, but it stood to reason that more recent carvings might seem sharper, not needing to withstand the weathering of time.

User Image Draven and Bluebell had traveled long and far. Having been stopped by another Jack Hop asking if they would help find some wanderers who had gotten lost. Lost? Perhaps they might know where 'she' was? The large buck looked back at Bluebell who had opted to ride as they had been up since the day before.

"What do you think?" He asked Bluebell as the jack hop had vanished to gain others help.

"Anything i better then going in circles and looking in all the same places." She pointed out from where she crouched. "So might as well check it out. Never know."

The buck gave a nod and headed in the basic direction that had been given to them. The Wanderlust area... It was a wreck and mish-mash of junk that apparently the occupants had collected. Shaking his head he glanced at the strange doe whom bore wings of an Ascended magics user. Flicking his tail slightly, Draven gave a casual glance to those that had also come to the call. It seems that there will be a group to strike up the search.

"Seems that there are others that want to help search for those who wander." Draven muttered to Bluebell as she yawned and just flopped over his back.

Giving a glance back, he couldn't blame the poor thing, he had kinda run her a little ragged hunting. Looking forwards again, he kept a little off to one side away from those whom were milling about the clearing. From the scraps of metal laying about and the large redwood that was hollowed out to act as a shelter and home for those who once lived here. It was clear that they hadn't been here for the longest of times and was a little surprised no one else had moved in.

"How long have these wanderers been gone? Seems like they just dropped everything and left with little want to return." He commented kinda loudly as he moved a little closer to the rest, his gaze more on the winged doe then the rest.

Others were beginning to filter in: a grey buck talking to himself, or - ah, there was a jackhop there upon his withers. Ralir turned to look at him, flicking his ear a little at the pointed tone of the question. He kept the rest of his body carefully still, though.

Ralir had a certain sympathy for Wanderlust, see. He couldn't imagine wanting to head out into the Barrens for so long, but he had known nouls, too, who'd wandered off in the hopes of finding something, only never to return. Nouls like his own mother. And, besides, it wasn't like Wanderlust was untrustworthy. The noul who'd discovered jack hops...that was a real accomplishment. He looked from Draven to the carving before him, which seemed pretty, well, incomprehensible. Well - perhaps he shouldn't be creating discord in Viltalta's group, especially when this buck had just arrived, but he couldn't keep going without saying something.

"I don't know how long it's been, or who they might have taken in their party," Ralir said. His father might have better records - but his father had not come with, because he was too frail for it. "But Wanderlust is an ascended noul, and they've always returned before. I think some nouls are just messy, and - "

He turned back to the wall of the redwood. "I suppose that's unfortunate for us, tracing in their hoofsteps." He took a step to the side, hoping the added context of more carvings might elucidate the meaning of the ones he'd been looking at first.

Adahy was up early like most mornings before the dawn. He was hard at work in his 3 acre garden. Furry tail was in the cabbage patches snacking and chasing after random butterflies. The morning was cool and the sun that was starting to come up was warm. "It is a great day for gardening." Adahy though as he started to plant some more seeds.

Form the edge of the tree line came a rustling. Adahy watched and stilled; flicking his ears in the direction of the sound. Furry Tail had made himself disappear into the surroundings like Adahy had told him to do in case of danger, so Adahy had all his attention on the spot where the sound had come form.

Form the bushes came a Jack Hop and it was at a dead run heading toward him. Stopping right in front of Adahy, the hop panted for air. Adahy waited patiently has the Jack hop didn't seem to be running from anything but more toward something. "Good Morning Noul…" The hop said between pants of air. "You are requested to attend a search for the wanderlust who have become lost." The jack hop paused for air. "The wanderlust?!?" Adahy replied. He had heard of them before but only heard never knew them to be really.

The Jack Hop didn't reply to his surprise or questioning only continued on with his message. " If you accept the calling form the Viltalta please meat her in the heart of the Homewood where the search will begin." Without waiting for a response the Jack hop left at the same dead run he had entered into Adahy garden at. Questions and wonder swirled through Adahy's head but none of those could be answered unless he answered the calling.

"Furry where are you? You came come out now?" Adahy called his companion. Hopping form out of a clay pot not to far form the cabbage patch, Furry Tail came over. "What was that all about?" the young hop asked but there was no time for questions. "We are to answer the calling of Viltalta. She needs all the nouls and their familiars she can get." That was all the explanation Furry would get; after all it was all the information Adahy had. "Go and back a sack with some food and I will get two canteens of water. Then we must go right away." They gather their supplies and where for in less the 5 minutes.
-------------------------------------

Adahy and Furry Tail arrived at the Wanderlust grove by mid afternoon. Furry Tail had road on Adahy back most of the way so they had made good time. The Wanderlust was a mess and this was surprise to Adahy since he had always assumed it to be well cared for. There was already to other nouls present and Viltalta in all her wonderous glory was standing with them talking.

Trotting up to the small group, Adahy respectfully bows to Viltalta. "I have answered the call Viltalta. How may I help?" Furry Tail, who had hopped down form his place on Adahy's back, was now bowing to Viltalta too but said nothing. Adahy and Furry Tail waited for Viltalta's instructions before beginning any tasks.

More were arriving. Good. The pale grey buck that arrived with his jack hop in tow seemed surly, but Viltatla could understand that. She’d been accused of much the same in her youth.

“The young appaloosa is correct,” she said to DRAVEN. “Wanderlust has always returned in the past. This grove is theirs even if they are an infrequent visitor to their own home.”

The arrival of ADAHY and Furry Tail, and their respectful bowing, brought another smile to her scarred face. “Search the grove for any trace of sign of where Wanderlust may have gone. There are no fresh tracks or scents to worry about disturbing.

It took a tilt of the head for the words to register as words - Wanderlust's scrawl was messy, and probably not helped by the fact that it'd been carved into wood. Ralir jerked back to say something, but when his ears pricked, he realized that Viltalta was talking about him. He felt himself growing hot with shame. "I'm so sorry!" he said. "I forgot - my name is Ralir. It's an honor to meet you all." These nouls had all come to help, after all, and some of them seemed at least a little more experienced than he.

After a pause, looking from noul to noul, he added: "I think there's a list of supplies here. It certainly indicates the Barrens, and perhaps a cavern system or a gorge - there are notes about light, rope, and harnesses, in addition to the typical rations, water, and sand and heat protection that'd seem to fit the Barrens' climate." He tilted his head. "There's a note about chalk, too - you'd think that chalk wouldn't make much of an impact in the Barrens, but perhaps Wanderlust found something on their previous trip...?"

He wasn't really knowledgable about the Barrens, though. He moved the list out into the clearing, though, sticking it to one of the younger trees in the clearing instead. It might be best to organize their information, right? "I'm putting it here so that we can refer to it again," he said confidently - the context carved into the tree was probably less important.

He returned to the tree nimbly, though, now inspired to search for something else. Perhaps the containers laying around here might have some discovery Wanderlust had made...?

Draven didn't seem too impressed with the things that were going on, but it wasn't like he was in a position to really thrust himself into it. He was just someone whom had come to help hunt for these wayward souls in a hope the one he sought was also with them, though deep down he felt that she wasn't. Shaking his head he moved over to look at the not that was left for things to take. To all this he gave a snort.

"Chalk also melts in extreme heats and as hot as the Barrens can get without a cloud over head. You might as well be putting down berries and hope that no one eats them." he retorted before pushing further into the hollowed out tree.

Glancing around the inner bits of the tree, it didn't seem like there was much space to really pass through. Seems that not only did the mess spread outside, but he could only assume that some of the 'piles'he wove around were much of the same items. Bluebell had woken up as he had started moving and was looking around, her sight a bit better in the somewhat dimmer light. Her nose was a twitching before she hopped down to give a gander around herself.

"Don't wander too far Bluebell, don't you need getting lost in here." Draven called after her as she went.

Bluebell only stopped and nodded at him before moving out of sight. To his mind, it was a weight off his back, quite literally, small as she was, heavy.

The gruff buck raised his voice again, and Ralir paused where he was propping a container's lid open with his horn. He'd only been thinking that it probably wouldn't mark very well, in the sand - but that was certainly a fair point. A cave system might be significantly cooler, though, and have some solid surface to write on. What could be interesting there?

He lifted his head to speak, twisting awkwardly to face the clearing and give comment again. "A cave, then, perhaps? I - I haven't been out in the Barrens very much, and I suspect Wanderlust has traveled farther than I could imagine. But perhaps one of you might have experience...?" If someone had spotted a cave system in the Barrens, they might have an idea of which way to head.

It still wasn't much to go on, though, so he went back to sifting through containers in search of something interesting. He noticed the jackhop on its way in, and inclined his head toward it. "Hello! Let me know if you need me to move out of the way," he offered. He'd never worked closely with any sort of familiar, but he knew they had strengths that could be quite distinct from a noul's. As for Ralir, he'd keep sorting through these containers as best he could, sniffing occasionally to check for mustiness, or some unfamiliar odor.

As Adahy stands he hears a crinkling under hoof. Looking down he notice a small corner of paper. "Humm is this something we might be looking for?" He says as Furry Tail picks up the corner of what looked to be a map. Hopping the paper over to Viltatla, Furry laid the map in front of her. "We shall begin our search and bring the clues back to you." Adahy said with another bow and then turned and walked away. Furry Tail hopped back on to Adahy back and waved bye for now to Viltatla.

"Ok FT we are looking for anything that might help us find Wanderlust. Like that paper or and thing strange." Adahy explained to Furry as the walked around. "Okay Ada." He said in a very serious voice which let Adahy know his companion was ready to help. Chuckling at Furry and his eagerness to help, they begin their search for more clues.

As he walked around searching, Adahy took note of where other nouls where looking as well. Sometimes clues can be found right on top of each other so he wanted to see where clues might be found. There wasn't much to go on and the grove was a mess so every little thing needed to be examined.
