The day was chilly, although there was less of a snap in the air than there had been the day before - fortunate, since it was also pouring rain. Giving his head a small shake, Mātau settled comfortably onto his haunches. Had he not been the sort to simply expect good judgement from himself, he might have taken a moment for self-congratulation; he'd timed his arrival in the small, snug cave perfectly, and so remained mostly dry. Water already was flowing across the hard-packed, rocky landscape before him, washing away dirt in widening rivulets.

Peering out into the grey of the early afternoon, he contemplated his next course of action - the young male had recently parted ways from his...rather protective parent, and had opted to spend some time wandering to learn more about the various prides that dotted the landscape before he made any permanent decisions about what he wanted his future to hold. He was decisive, sure (much more so than his mother), but he also liked to have a good idea of his options before committing to a path.
